Windows 2012 R2 - NPS in resource forest won't auteticate users in the user forest by UPN, only by DOMAIN\username

Hi there
I have recently setup a windows 2012 R2 NPS server (for WIFI auth) in our resource forest to replace an aging 2003 RADIUS server.
The problem I am having is users logging in with their UPNs.
To give some background our user forest and domains look like company.local and a few child domains department.company.local etc.
Our resource domain is companyresources.com
As we use office 365 we had to add UPNs to our users called company.com and set them.
The NPS cannot authenticate users when they use their [email protected] UPN.
From logs
Network Policy Server denied access to a user.
Contact the Network Policy Server administrator for more information.
User:
            Security ID:                              NULL SID
            Account Name:                         [email protected]
            Account Domain:                                  -
            Fully Qualified Account Name:   -
Followed by event ID 4402
There is no domain controller available for domain DOMAIN.
I believe its cannot translate the Account name into an Account domain when using the UPN we need for office 365 ([email protected]).
If I set a test user to a UPN of [email protected] it does (however we cannot do this because it will affect our office 365 users)
Network Policy Server granted access to a user.
User:
            Security ID:                              DOMAIN\user1
            Account Name:                         [email protected]
            Account Domain:                                  DOMAIN
            Fully Qualified Account Name:   DOMAIN\user1
or if I use DOMAIN\username
Network Policy Server granted full access to a user because the host met the defined health policy.
User:
            Security ID:                              DOMAIN\user1
            Account Name:                         DOMAIN\user1
            Account Domain:                                  DOMAIN
            Fully Qualified Account Name:   DOMAIN\user1
Is there any way I can get my UPN authentication working form the resource domain s I would prefer my users logging into WiFi with their UPNs as we have moved away from the DOMAIN\username method.
Thanks

Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that client using UPN can’t be authenticated by NPS server, event ID 4402.
In general, when NPS is configured as a RADIUS server with the default connection request policy, NPS processes connection requests for the domain in which the NPS server is a member and for trusted domains.
You may try to use realm names configured in connection request policies to ensure that connection requests are routed from RADIUS clients to RADIUS servers that can authenticate and authorize the connection request.

When I try to browse directly to the missing images http://www.mmaamateurleaguereporter.info/Cage%20Championships.jpg I get Page Not Found.
Either the missing images have not been uploaded or they have been uploaded to the wrong directory on your server.
PS: %20 in a file name is a space (as in pressing the spacebar on your keyboard). Best to avoid spaces in filenames on the web due to the different ways in which different servers handle them. Worst case, your webpage fails in whole or part. Use hyphens (-) or underscores (_) in place of spaces.

  • How come my Mac read my Ram as 24 GB when I installed four 8 GB RAM into my system and booted through safe boot, since my Mac won't boot normally with the new Ram, but will only boot if I add the two 2GB with two 8GB?

Oh and I'm using Kingston RAM too this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007TGZ4UY/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&p sc=1

Macs are extremely sensitive to their ram...even when memory paging is not used, the memory modules still have to be very close in their timing and latency and other specifications.  That is why John and Michel and Mike and Mende and I all gave you the same advice, advice based on years of experience.  There are a couple memory suppliers who are Mac specialists, know Macs, and test their products to see that they perform correctly in Macs.  The two best are OWC and Crucial, plenty of links given above.
We all have said the same thing with regard to other brands, they are not reliable and are regular sources of problems encountered on here.  It is very unusual to have positive feedback from users buying ram from Amazon or eBay...we see pretty much a 100% failutre rate from users doing that.
Listen to our advice, get the amount of ram supported by your iMac, from a reliable source.  There isn't much else we can tell you as the memory you now have is not working.

  • Question about adding Windows 2012 R2 Domain Controller, into a native Windows 2008 R2 single forest domain

I current have a two server domain, both Windows 2008 R2 and fully updated.   The two servers are on subnet 10.0.1.0 /24
    - Windows 2008 R2 Server A: 10.0.1.1 (DC, GC, FSMO, DNS)
    - Windows 2008 R2 Server B: 10.0.1.2 (DC, GC)
    AD Domain: COMPANY.LOCAL
I have a second connected subnet, 192.168.1.0 /24) which is routed to the 10.0.1.0/24 subnet and I would like to install a Windows 2012 R2 server onto a server on that subnet and make it a domain controller with AD-Integrated DNS and DHCP for the 192.168.1.0
    /24 subnet.
    - Windows 2012 R2 Server C: 192.168.1.1
What are the proper progression steps, in order to bring up the Windows 2012 R2 server and then add it to my COMPANY.LOCAL domain and then promote it do a DC/GC/AD-Integrated DNS server?   Are they anything like the following:
    1. Install Windows 2012 R2 server (Server C)
    2. Point Windows 2012 R2 server DNS servers at Server's A and B
    3. Perform AD prep to extend AD schema to support Windows 2012 R2 domain controllers
    4. Promote Windows 2012 R2 server to domain controller (install local DNS service on Server C, during this step)
    * Question:  Will Windows automatically create a DNS zone for the Windows 2012 R2 subnet (192.168.1.0/24) AND also include the DNS zone from the previous Windows 2008 R2 domain (10.0.1.0 /24)?  Or will I need to add the 10.0.1.0 /24 zone to the DNS
server on Server C, even though the DNS from the Windows 2008 R2 domain is AD integrated?

    Hi,
Regarding the issue here, please take a look into below articles:

Here is an example for promoting Windows Server 2012 to a DC, see:

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/12370.step-by-step-guide-for-setting-up-a-windows-server-2012-domain-controller.aspx
As the server is promoted to a DC, DNS Zones will be replicated and synchronized to it automatically whenever the new one is added to an AD DS domain,  bascially there is no special need to add zones,  for more information, please see:

  • Migrate to Windows 2012 R2 and Exchange 2013 SP1 using database portability

Hi, I'm planning to migrate from Exchange 2013 SP1 running on Windows 2012 to Exchange 2013 SP1 on Windows 2012 R2.
Is it possible to use database portability to move the databases from the exchange installation on win 2012 to the new installation on Win 2012 R2? This would save a great deal of time not doing the mailbox moves.
I've searched similar cases but couldn't find any, all speak about disaster recovery and database portability but I've found no articles that uses the migration scenario.
Would it be possible to do and if so, what would the steps be? Do I need to delete the database from the source server, move the database files to the new server and mount them and relocate the mailboxes? Or should I dismount the database on the source server,
move them to the new server and mount them and relocate the mailboxes?
    Frank.

    Hi,
According to your description, I recommend you consider using DAG to achieve your requirement.
The following steps for your reference:
1.Prepare a new server which installed windows 2012 R2 for Exchange 2013 mailbox server.
2.After you deploy Exchange 2013 Mailbox servers, you can create a DAG, add Mailbox servers to the DAG, and then replicate mailbox databases between the DAG members.
3.After replication, you can mount all the databases on the new server.
    Hope this helps!
    Thanks.

  • Migration from Small business server 2011 standad to Windows 2012 Server Standard

    Hi everyone,
I have a network with SBS 2011 standard (that is the only server) and now we are moving (migrating) to windows 2012 server standard with an exchange 2013 (not yet installed).
The main thing is that when trying to install the migration tool on the SBS server, it will not install because it is not a 2008 R2 server.
is there a workaround for this problem?
I Hope this will help. Amir Ovadia

    Hi,
Would you please first let me know how did you perform the migration? Regarding the migration tool, is it the Windows Server Migration Tools in Windows Server 2012 R2? Since you need to install
the Windows Server Migration Tools on the source SBS 2011 server, I suggest we could perform the following steps to install it.
Create deployment folders for ource computers by running the
smigdeploy.exe tool (included with Windows Server Migration Tools) on your destination server.
Register Windows Server Migration Tools on source computers that are running Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, or Windows
    Server 2003 by using SmigDeploy.exe.

  • AD services not appearing in Windows 2012 menu

    Hi there
I'm building a virtual 2012 environment with separate machines for AD and WSUS.
I've then built another machine called Management.  Using the Windows 2012 menu, I've added the 2 machines above as machines to manage however there is a problem.
It does appear to add them as on my left hand side of the Windows 2012 panel, it shows WSUS and AD DS.  However the problem is that when I click on the Tools machine to access AD, it doesn't exist.  My understanding is that once I add that machine
as a machine to manage, I should get all the management options?
I've pretty sure it's worked in the past...
    Any ideas?
    Note:  My firewall is on
    Many thanks

    Hi all
I got this query answered on the Windows 2012 general page, located here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/744f70f8-694b-4c6b-b0fc-6ce92e0f48a6/having-trouble-remotely-managing-other-windows-2012-servers?forum=winserver8gen
It seems I needed to add the Remote Management from the Features tab of the dashboard.  I, mistakenly, was under the impression that by adding the servers to manage, it would automatically add the required Administration tool, depending on the server
    role.
Thanks all for your replies and help.

  • Windows 2012 R2 / Windows Essentials Role. How to keep from Changing DNS.

So I have asked this question in the windows 2012 Server board and was directed to try it here in the essentials.
that existing thread is here >>
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/11cfbc1b-0001-42d6-85c1-304d1e450679/windows-2012-r2-windows-essentials-role-how-to-keep-from-changing-dns?forum=winserver8gen
    now to the question
Ok so I will describe my problem as best as I can.
I have 2 Servers Both 2012 R2 Standard 1 is Primary Domain controller and one is the Secondary Domain controller. I had everything set up on the domain and the Primary Domain controller was set up as the DNS on ALL clients (Static).
Recently I set up the secondary domain controller with Essentials. All went well I added all the clients to connect with Essentials. a few days went by and now all of a sudden all the Static DNS's are all changed to the Essentials box.
This Really wouldn't be a problem to me except the performance level of that DNS is EXTREAMLY slow. I run to all clients and change the static back and everything works great. then a little while goes by and all DNS's are again to the Essentials box.
SO my question would be. Is there any way to configure the Essentials box to stop redirecting the DNS to itself and keep the Primary domain controller as the DNS

    Hi Curtis_bob,
I noticed that Olaf had provided
KB2862551 in the old thread. Just check if Olaf’s suggestion can help you to solve this issue.
If this issue still exists, would you please let me confirm whether has also installed DNS server role on the
Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard (with Windows Server Essentials Experience role)?
If any update, please feel free to let us know.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

  • SQL Server window nt-64bit on window 2012 R2

I just installed windows 2012 R2 standard, and there is a process called "sql server window nt-64bit"  that consumes 15 GB of memory SQL Server, but I have not installed SQL Server.
    My server have 32Gb RAM
    Where did that process?
¿can I control the memory consumption?
    cyber

    Hi Cybercosmos,
Quote: Then I understand that SQL Server or part of it is  included on Windows 2012 Server STD R2, it is correct?? if it is so,  how can I control the memory consumption?
No, the SQL Server is not included on Windows 2012 Server STD R2. It might  come with another program.
The sqlservr.exe process is also known as SQL Server Windows NT (Version - 64 Bit). This process is required if we are using applications that rely on the SQL service (of which there are many). If you are sure you do not need it, you can uninstall the related
    program using Windows Control Panel.
To remove SQL Server Windows NT from your computer, please follow the manual instructions below:
Click the Windows Start Button, look for Control Panel.
    Click Control Panel.
    Click Uninstall a program.
Look for SQL Server Windows NT in the list of available programs.
    Click Uninstall.
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

  • Reinstall Exchange server running evaluation windows 2012 DC

    Hi,
My exchange server 2013 is running in windows server 2012 evaluation version DC, I purchased license but cannot  activate windows server 2012 because it is DC. Kindly advise how I can activate windows or how to reinstall windows server and exchange
    server and restore the database.
    Thank You,
    Arafath

    Install new Windows Server 2012.
Note: Make sure it's not Windows 2012 R2. R2 is not supported for Exchange 2013.
Promote the server as DC, replicate the AD/DNS to new domain controller
Once the replication is done, install exchange server on the server.
Move all the mailboxes to new server, replicate the Public Folder to new server.
Test exchange with new server and make sure users are able to connect using outlook, Outlook Anywhere, OWA, ActiveSync, Mail flow is working internally and externally.
Once you confirmed it, shutdown the old server, and test the same again to make sure if you remove the old server it's not going to cause any issue to new server and new server will work find without the Old Server.
Again, try if you can get DC on different server and exchange on the member server.

  • Boot Failed. EFI SCSI Device 1. Hyper-V Windows 2012 R2 Preview

    Hello,
I am new to Hyper-V. I installed Windows Server 2012 R2  Preview on a physical server and installed Hyper-V role on it.
I am trying to install Windows 2008 R2 on Hyper-V as a guest OS.
From Hyper-V manager, I created a VM and supplied 2008 R2 ISO as a boot device.
Windows 2008 R2 ISO is bootable. I have used the same ISO on VMware and it works.
I connected the VM and powered on, but OS instalaltion doesn't start.
I get error " Boot Failed. EFI SCSI Device 1." Below is th screen capture.
How to fix this problem ?
How do I go to Hyper-v VM BIOS settings ?
How do I change the boot sequence for Hyper-V VM ?
    Thanks ! Jayawardhane

I was getting the same error but with WINDOWS 2012 STD Edition.
My case: I was trying to use the existing WINDOWS 2012 VHDX with Generation 2 Virtual Machine, as I wanted to make use of 'Virtual Hard Disk Sharing' feature which is only supported on SCSI Controller. But during boot, it looked for UEFI code, whereas
I had created VHDX using BIOS boot partition. So I guess, In order to use 'VHD Sharing' feature, I have to convert boot partition to GPT which supports UEFI.
If I use the Generation 1 virtual machine, and then change the VHDX Controller from IDE to SCSI from settings, I see the option 'VHD Sharing' getting enabled, but unfortunately the Generation 1 BIOS does not have support for SCSI only IDE.
