Windows 2K3 sharing with iMac

Im running Tiger on my mac and have just installed Windows 2003 Server Enterpise on my PC. I want to use my PC as a file server. I have installed Appleshare on the PC and have shared all the drives. I have disabled the Microsoft network server: Digitally Signed Alway to Disabled. When I do a Command K on my Mac I can see the PC and all the shares but when I try to connect it gives me an error about not being able to find the alias. Anyone have any ideas?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

See if this helps...

iPhone Bluetooth not sharing with iMac - WHY????
How can this function not be available on iPhone - What an embarrassing disgrace Apple!!
I refuse to conform to iTunes - NO!
Am so over your lack of basic user services Apple - sort your **** out!!!

The simplest answer is that the existing Bluetooth is not suitable for this purpose. With a max speed of 2.1 Mbps (0.5% that of USB), it would be pretty painful to use for this purpose - a backup of a 16GB iPhone would take a whole day. Transfer a movie? It would take an hour.
On top of that, Bluetooth doesn't provide a standard mechanism for the type of data transfer and synching that iPhone needs -- they'd have to write their own propriety one and you'd still have to use proprietary software to do the data transfer / synching.
A better mechanism would be standard Wi-Fi, which would be MUCH faster than Bluetooth and for which the protocols necessary are already in place. It's still comparatively slow to USB (about 10% that of USB), but much faster than Bluetooth. However, it appears that Apple's research has led them to believe that waiting an hour or two for the phone to backup over Wi-Fi using the existing mechanism is still undesirable.
From what they've indicated about iOS5, however, it seems that they will be supporting more over-the-air updating and synching mechanisms, meaning that, for the first time, you can do most everything but backup the phone without iTunes (though document exchange for certain apps is much faster and easier with iTunes, it won't be necessary).

  • Home sharing with IMac and applet  not working

Sharing is turned on my IMac.  My Apple TV is on and can see the name of the IMac. The iMac has photos selected but they don,t display on the Tv.   I have verified the IMac has most recent version of ITunes. Been through TS guide, no luck. Apple TV says to turn home sharing on but it is already on. Any suggestions.

I have 2 Apple TV 2s.  I updated one to the latest iOS and it immediately lost the connection to my home shared iMac.  A week later I updated the second ATV2 and it immediately lost the connection, BUT I regained the connection with the first ATV2 I had updated earlier.  The second still won't connect even after exhausting EVERY solution numerous times and the setting on both ATV2s are identical.  Hoping the next iOS ATV update solves the problem.

  • File sharing with iMAC and OS 9.1 Power PC back-to-back not working

Here's the setup. Any ideas on why it's not working?
Internet ports connected with crossover cable.
OS 9.1: File sharing ON, Program linking OFF, Document file selected for sharing
OS 10.4.8: Personal file sharing ON, Built in Ethernet both computers, GO connect to server-Power PC IP address entered.
Response after a timeout: "Connection failed. Check server name or IP address".
17 iMAC Intel core duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Still not working. Here’s what I tried.
OS 9.1: Configured TCP/IP in Control Panel for connection via Ethernet slot. Noted IP address from last DHCP connection. Turned on File Sharing in Control Panel. Selected file for sharing. In Chooser clicked Appleshare icon and Server IP Address button. (Note: Appletalk button active). Entered iMAC IP address in Server Address screen and clicked Connect.
    No connection made.
Then opened Appletalk in Control Panel and noted it is connected via same Ethernet slot as TCP/IP. Therefore returned to Chooser, clicked Appleshare icon and clicked Appletalk inactive button. Upon turning File Sharing on in Control Panel, get warning message, “Appletalk must be turned on to use file sharing.”
As before, iMAC connect to OS 9.1 didn’t work either.
Artnum=302784 indicates Appletalk cannot be used, TCP/IP must. Apparently there is no way to disable Appletalk in OS 9.1 maching when file sharing.
It appears I’ve hit a dead end in trying to get operational file sharing between OS 10.8.4 and OS 9.1 machines.
    Thanks for your help, BDAqua

  • Problems accessing windows share folders with iMac joined to the domain

    Hi,
Following the Apple Seminar (http://seminars.apple.com/seminarsonline/addamac/apple/index.html?s=300) I've joined an iMac (10.6.2) to a Windows Domain successfully and I can login with my windows account.
The problem arises when I try to mount a share folder. Mac ask me if I want to access as a guest or as a registered user, and it's really weird since the folder belongs to the windows user. It seems like Mac doesn't use the login account to access the share folders...
    Regards,

    Hi,
I'm trying to use the Connect to Server > smb://ipaddressoftheserver (smb://192.168.100.1/implementaciones) but it ask me for the authentication again....
It seems there is a problem with Snow Leopard and AD with .local domains. I've trying this solution:

  • Windows Cal Sharing with Macs

I have a team of five members who all need to be on the same page as far as scheduling and communicating confirmed appointments. Three of us have MACS (Macs RULE!!!) and the other two members have PC's (PC's are such a pain in the A$$!!!).
Now obviously between the 3 of us, we can publish a shared calendar and subscribe to each other's Cals. But we're leaving two members out because they only have Outlook.
We cannot figure out how they can subscribe to our published calendars (via FTP server) and we also can't figure out how they can publish they're cals and To-Do's so that we can subscribe to it through iCal. Is this even possible? I'm sure with technology these days, it's gotta be! I don't suppose Thunderbird for PC has sharing/subscribing features, no?

I am trying to access the files on my Windows
machine. I try connecting and a message comes up that
    reads
"The Finder cannot complete the operation because
some data in smb://''''''' could not be read or
    written."
    (Error Code -36)
This is an authentication error usually caused by the XP PC not having a password and/or the XP firewall blocking the file sharing.

  • File Sharing with iMac G5 w/PC

I have gone through the instructions for connecting my iMac and PC, and from the PC I am able to access the primary Mac account. But I can't see the other 2 accounts even though they are enabled from the Mac. What am I missing??

Hi LionChaser, and a warm welcome to the forums!
You'd either have to login to/with those other accounts, or adjust Permissions on those Home folders to allow other Users or Groups.
Two ways to do the second...
    Sharepoints for smb...

Might try BatchMod, it's much better/easier than the Finder for recursive Permission changes...

  • Novice to setting up Windows file sharing in order to connect with macbook

    Hi everyone,
I have been having major trouble trying to set up my Dell laptop to set up windows file sharing with my macbook pro (just got it yesterday). I am not very technically savvy, but I did enable that my C folder be shared on the network, so when I go to network places, it shows up.
I currently have my mac and dell connected by a cat 5 cable, so they are directly connected to each other. However, I have no idea where to go from here! I have read many support sites and pages, but it doesn't make sense to me. I need a watered down version of how to make my hard drive a server.
I also enabled file sharing on my mac , which was simple, but i am confused if i even need to do that.
Thanks in advance for any help. It will be GREATLY appreciated!!

    1) You aren't using a router or BaseStation in this little network?
    2) If not, you will need to set IP addresses manually. Otherwise you'll have a connection, but no data flow.
    3) Your shared drive on the Dell will show up in Neighborhood on the Dell. that's normal.
BD- Have you seen a good tutorial for this?
PS, Amanda - sharing out your entire "C" drive is not a good idea. Once we get you networked...it will be possible for the mac to delete a folder that's inside the Dell's "C" drive. Could be a system folder that you blast...there is no RecycleBin when you delete files across a network.
Don't mean to scare ya, just showing you the possibilities.

  • Networking\Sharing: Drive resourse with Imac and Windows PCs

May question start with how dose a person share an IMac external USB drives\resourses with a windows systems.

    Hi Dennis,
I tried the steps provided but when I attempted to connect the two computers my iMac said it had to shutdown and had a series of error codes it wanted me to send to apple.
If I follow these steps successfully will I be able to copy or pull files from the windows machine onto the iMac? We have lots of pictures and word files that I'd like to transfer onto the iMac and into programs like iPhoto and Word for Mac.
Is there any other programs required to get the two machines to share files other than what is on both computers?
    Thanks, Roger

  • Windows File Sharing behaving differently on 10.4.5 ( iMac vs. Mini Intel)

I have and iMac and a Mini Mac Intel Duo configured the same:
jdoe/password/workgroup ( bot Macs have a user name jdoe)
    personal file sharing started
windows file sharing started with jdoe account enabled
From the PC I ping both Macs to check network connectivity.
From the PC command line I use the following command:
    net use i: \\imac\jdoe\Public password /USER:workgroup\jdoe /persistent:no ( works fine )
    net use m: \\minimac\jdoe\Public password /USER:workgroup\jdoe /persistent:no ( logon fails )
The SMB connection to the iMac always succeed but the Mini Mac fails. Checking the Ethernet trace, I see that as expected Windows sends out SMB/CIFS packets on port 445 but the iMac does not replay so Windows try SMB/CIFS packets on port 139 (netbios) and gets a reply.
However when attempting to connect to the MiniMac, the MiniMac responds to the first packet on port 445;Hence, WinXP does not attempt port 139.. the negotiation is performed over port 445, but fails authentication.
A few things bug me about this: Why does one Mac respond to port 445 and the other on 139? Why does the failed negotiation on port 445 seems to progress until the NTLM challenge authentication failure? Is there a password issue between the two Macs? Both are running 10.4.5 out of the box, with no extra software!
Mini Mac Intel Duo & iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.5)

More notes... If I enable firewall on the MiniMac and allow Windows File Sharing, the Mini Mac only responds on port 139 Not port 445. Good, this is the same as the iMac default behavior, however, the login still fails.

  • Why did I have to enable Windows File Sharing to share files between two Mavericks iMacs?

File Sharing failed between my Mavericks iMacs.  The console logs showed that the target iMac saw the ntlmv2 protocol as unknown to the kdc.  I fixed it by enabling Windows File Sharing on the target Mavericks iMac.  I had tried disabling SMB on both iMacs and leaving AFP on, but then nothing happened when I tried to connect.  Why did I have to enable Windows File Sharing to share files between two Mavericks iMacs?

When you enable file sharing you need to have either SMB (Windows) or AFP (historically Apple-native) file sharing checked. The default in Mavericks is SMB, and not AFP.
If you uncheck both, then the system will turn off file sharing. Apple supports the use of both SMB and AFP connections in Mavericks, so with only AFP enabled you should have been able to establish a connection, but there could be a small bug or configuration-specific snafu that you're encountering.
With AFP enabled only, try pressing Command-K in the Finder to open the Connect To Server dialogue, and in here enter the address to the system using afp:// as the protocol, such as the following (the name can be looked up in the Sharing system preferences):
    afp://my_imac.local

  • Home Sharing will not work with my Windows 8 64bit with new itunes.  All of my Apple TVs will not see my library and my iphones will not function with the "Remote" App.  They all did before.  Only thing that has changed is new PC/itunes.  Any Ideas?

Installed a new Windows PC on my home network.  PC is Windows 8/64bit. with latest version of itunes 11.1.4.62 for 64bit.  My itunes works, but I can not get Home Sharing to function now.  None of my Apple TV's can see my computer library and prompt me to turn it on.  All of my iphones, pods, pad, can not use the "Remote" app.  When you prompt your phone in Remote App to "add library" and you get the code....iTunes doesnt give you the remote screen where you can enter the code.  I have reloaded iTunes, reset my router, updated all devices.  You can turn on "Home Sharing" on iTunes, but then it closes and doesnt seem to link my devices like it use to.  Also, when the new version of iTunes is up on my PC, you can see the other devices to AirPlay to like you could before.  However, I can send items from my iphone to stream to an Apple TV, I just cant link them all like I could before and control the music playing to multiple Apple TV.  Growing fustrated.  Any ideas, would be helpful.

    Cunning1_
You are a legend!!  I have spent countless hours uninstalling, reinstalling itunes, playing with firewall settings, reading articles on this problem!!  I only have to un-sync my iphone 5 and then the airplay icon magically appeared!!!  Maybe I have too many devices syncing via wi-fi, or maybe it is the Iphone syncing??
Whatever - one step and now I can enjoy my music through my house again!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

  • Have a 1st generation Apple TV, which is not showing as a device in iTunes. Had no problems with Apple TV until I changed from a Windows PC to an iMac. I have changed my IP address, sub mask address and router address in the Apple TV, Can anyone help?

I have a 1st generation apple TV, which was working perfectly until I changed from a Windows PC to a Imac. The Apple TV will not show in Itunes. I have changed the IP address, sub mask  and Router IP address. Since changing I have switched everything of and on again. Can anyone help?

I have a new router and computer. I have just remembered that just before my old PC died on me, I transferred my iTunes library to a hard drive. I can't remember exactly just how I got my library back, but there are definately things in my library now that were in my library on my old PC! Hope this makes sense. What do you mean by same location? Do you mean in the same place in the house?
Another difference I have just thought of was my old router was connected directly to the computer bu I have not been able to do this with Sky as my PC is not near a phone socket! Will this make a difference?
