Windows 7 + 10.6.3.25 = No Home Sharing

Hello,
I have a problem at version of iTunes 10.6.3.25 after setting up Home Sharing with my Apple ID, it takes you to a screen stating that the family is sharing for personal use, etc..
On this same screen, when I click finished, menu "Shared"> Home Sharing dissapears of the left sidebar. What might be happening?
My iPhone and my iPad and are normally control the Apple TV, and this not find a shared library.
Already have disabled the Firewall and Antivirus, but it still failing.

After hours searching, i found in my D-Link DIR-615 wireless router an option: MULTICAST STREAMING.
Here in community, people asks to test this option ENABLED, but here worked on DISABLED mode.
So, its good to test on both modes. Its working now, even "Home Sharing" is not appearing.
ITunes DJ also working good.
You can test (telnet localhost 3689) if your 3689 port is enabled.
Home Sharing uses TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5353 to communicate with other copies of iTunes, but telnet connected only on 3689.
Thanks for response and help.

  • I have windows, one computer but multi users. home sharing is on. how can i share music between users on one computer?

I have windows.  One computer but multi users.  Home sharing is on. 2 apple accounts-1 per user. 4 devices-2 iphones and 2 ipods per user.  How can we share music  on one computer between 2 users?

Hi Justinece, I've solved the problem in this way:
In my wife user profile I've set in itunes settings/advanced the path to my music library: /Users/"MY NAME"/Music/iTunes/Itunes media.
Than, from my wife profile using my administrator user and password I've set the "read/write" privileges on the above mentioned folder.
Finally I've added the folder in my wife's library taking care to not duplicate it ( leave blank the flag in itunes setting/advanced).
I really don't understand what's the use of home sharing...

  • I just got a new Windows tablet.  I set up Home Sharing between it and my desktop Mac but I can't seem to get playlists from my desktop into the tablet.  Can I do this by plugging my tablet into my desktop via a USB cable?

I just got an HP Stream 8 tablet with Windows on it.  I have a Mac desktop running 10.6.8.  I set up Home Sharing by making sure both had the same version of iTunes and I authorized the new tablet (desktop already was).  (I haven't exceeded the number of authorized computers.)  I would like to take some of the playlists I have on my desktop Mac and copy them into iTunes on the tablet.  I hooked up the tablet to my desktop with a USB cable but wasn't able to get it to copy.  I do not have WIFI....is there a way to do this by just having the tablet hooked up via the USB cable?  If so, can someone please talk me through the steps necessary to do that?  Thanks!

Did you erase the machine and set it up with your accounts or is the previous user still on it?
Please note that Mountain Lion is far from being an app, it is your Macs operating system.

  • Why can't Apple TV's and iOS devices see home sharing on my Windows 7 computer when iTunes libraries on other computers on the same network and connected to the same Home Sharing can?

I have never previously had any problems with Home Sharing, I have always found it to be completely reliable as advertised. I have 2 computers in the house, (one MacBook and one Windows Desktop) connected to the same Home Sharing account, connected to the same BT Home Hub 4. My situation is that I have nearly 2TB of data of which I would like to share with the home wirelessly, in my mind the desktop is the logical place for this to be shared from.
When running, iTunes on this desktop broadcasts to other iTunes libraries, but no other iOS devices or Apple TV's connected to the same Home Sharing account cannot see it.
I have tried turning Home Sharing off, and then turning it back on, closing iTunes, restarting the computer, going to Network and Sharing Centre and unticking IPv6 in the network adapter properties, even completely wiping the computer and reinstalling Windows 7.
One of the Apple TV's in the house was recently purchased by my parents with the promise from me that everything would work seamlessly... so far it isn't and I am frustrated that the Apple technology that I have come to rely on isn't working as expected.
One thing that has occurred to me upon writing this is that it is a very large amount of data, and I have not attempted to share this with another computer that is currently working and broadcasting it's Home Share fine.
I am sorry if I have ommitted any important details, any further questions don't hesitate to ask. I would be so grateful of any suggestions, my parents are depending on me.

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem.  The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6.  (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!

  • Can I transfer itunes library to mac from Windows PC via Home Sharing?

I'm trying to transfer my itunes library from my Windows PC to my Macbook via Home Sharing. I followed all the steps in the KB and everything was looking fine, but I can't get the import button to enable, if there something that won't allow this from a Windows PC?

Yes, no.  You can transfer your media files with Home Sharing but your library is more than media files.  It's your playlists, ratings, playcount, etc.  To transfer that:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168
Windows users see tip at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18879381
If you put it in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • Home Sharing no longer works between iTunes and Apple TV.

I've been through all the forums, tried all the solutions provided and I have come to the conclusion that Home Sharing just no longer works between iTunes on a PC and my Apple TV.  Does anyone know if this issue will be addressed or should I list my Apple TV up on eBay?  (along with my iPad, iPod, and iPhone, since all system no longer sync together as before.)
    My issue:
My iTunes library is no longer listed under "Computers" on the Apple TV.
The airplay icon no longer shows up in iTunes. (Version 11)
I cannot play music/content from my iPhone or iPad via remote that is stored in my iTunes library through my Apple TV.
I can however play music/content that is stored locally on my iPhone and iPad through my Apple TV.
My firewall settings are allowing access to Apple TV.
After logging into my router, I see no issues there.
I've logged in/out, turned home sharing on/off, de-authorized/authorized, and restarted my PC, Apple TV, and Router.
All devices are logged into the same iTunes account, and are on the same wireless network.
    Time for a solution Apple.

If you turn off wifi on your  Computer and connect it to the apple tv using an ethernet cable can you see your library under computers in Apple TV.
If yes the issue is with your wifi not the Apple TV

    I also found this article
    iTunes Home Sharing Not Working
Not working and sometimes when it is working, it cuts out in the middle, or when you click on the computer name, the focus goes away from the library.  In other words, really weird.
    What it is
iTunes has a feature called "Home Sharing" - it basically allows you to share your entire or part of your library with other instances of iTunes in your home network.  It requires you to login to your iTunes account on both computers.  A typical scenario is to enable Home Sharing on your desktop machine and then access the library from your iPad, Apple TV, iPhone, Mac, etc.
In my case, I have iTunes on my desktop machine running Windows XP in the attic with Home Sharing enabled and then I access the library from my Macbook and Apple TV, depending on what I want.  How to use Home Sharing can be found here.
    Symptoms
Home Sharing machine not showing up in Apple TV or the Macbook
The Macbook home sharing not showing up on my desktop
    Home Sharing working intermittently
    Connections getting cut of intermittently
Usually, restarting iTunes or the desktop computer will make things work.
Sometimes, restarting the Macbook or the Apple TV will make things work.
    The "working" doesn't last long
The FixOn the desktop computer where the Home Sharing is enabled, I disabled the "QoS Packet Scheduler" from the network connection:
    Open Control Panel
    Open Network Connections
Right-Click on your connection (in my case, it was "Wireless Network Connection 4"
    Select Properties
    Uncheck "QoS Packet Scheduler"
    Click OK
    Restart iTunes if necessary
After doing the above, Home Sharing worked like a charm.

  • I have home sharing on but sharing is not an option on either computer

I have my itunes library on a Vista PC and have a Wireless Cicso router and am trying to share the library on my Windows 7 PC.  I have home sharing turned on on both PC's.  I have authorized both computers.  The sharing option does not show up in itunes.  When I look a preferences it says sharing on no users.  The network name is the same on both PC's.  It does however shw up on my ipad.  I cannot find any online help to further troubleshoot this issue.

Sorry, but there is no iTunes Store for Guernsey. As a crown dependency rather than a full part of the UK, the licensing for the content in the UK iTunes Store doesn't apply to Guernsey nor Jersey, so you can't use that Store.
    Regards.

  • Home Sharing No Longer Works in iTunes 11

Ever since iTunes 11, the home sharing to my two Apple TVs, iPhone and iPad has been disabled.  I've checked the firewall and iTunes is listed as having an open port, adjusted the compatibility settings on iTunes for Windows 7.  Apple fix this.

Home Sharing works once after I start iTunes on the Mac.
Next time I want to watch a film, it justs hangs and says it cannot connect to my iTunes library.
I have the same issue on 5 ATVs round the house (some wired some wireless), I have tried fixed and DHCP IP addressing, I have moved the Mac to be on the same switch as one of the ATVs and  the problem is still there.
I have tried a different Mac running Mountain Lion and the same thing happens.
At the moment in order to watch a film I have to use Remote Desktop to log onto the Mac and stop and start iTunes then the ATV sees the library. Watch film. Move to other room, fire up ATV no library, use Remote Desktop, rinse and repeat....frustrating isn't the word.

  • Why Apple Tv 2 drop Home Sharing connection after few minutes?

I just installed an Apple TV 2. Internet connection applications as Apple Store, Youtbe, etc work very well but it drops Library`s communication just after a few minutes. I`m running files like music that are in the library in a PC with Windows Vista.
I`ve been reading other discussions and have done every thing that was suggested as:
    - setting Static IP address
    - have set Firewall with the ports are supposed to open
    - have set Port Forwarding on the router (a Linksys WRT54GS)
    - have updated Network Card driver
    - have updated router firmware
    - turned off sleepling mode and screen saver
    - restored Apple TV 2
    - reset router
    - installed last Itunes version
All that and possibily other things that I do not remember right now but still looseingconnection to the Library after a few minutes. I have realized first time I put a slide show of pictures with music background and the music always stops after the second music. After that you just see the message that you need to turn on the Library related to my Apple ID.
Today I did a test with a home sharing with another computer I have that runs Windows 7 and guess what: the Home Sharing worked fine!
So, my conclusion is that there is some flaw on Home Sharing when running Itunes in Windows Vista or specificly with this computer running the Windows Vista.
I have done a research and have not found anything else. So, could anyone have a hint of what is going on?
    Thanks,
    Ricardo

Yesterday were released the IOS 5.1 and the Itunes 10.6. I thought that updating the IOS on the Apple TV 2 and the Itunes on PC, my problems would go away. I did that but for my surprise it has NOT.
Then I had a recall that I have read somewhere a while ago about issues with the AVAST Anti-Virus and Home Sharing, that can generate connectivity issues,
In one of my first temptatives to resolve this issue I have stopped the AVAST and I still had the problem, so I left this trail of solution. But since nothing was working I decided to uninstall it. I was a little skeptical about it but gave a shoot.
To my surprise, when I uninstalled it, booted the computer and did the Home Sharing, the problem was FIXED!
That made total sense because the other computer that runs Windows 7 and I have tested before, worked fine, it runs AVIRA as Anit-Virus software.
So my conclusion is that, on my case, the AVAST caused the issue and to stop its service was not enough to diagnose the issue. I had to uninstall it, believe or not. And that the issue has nothing to do with Windows Vista OS but with AVAST.
After that, I uninstall AVIRA as Anti Virus software and, since that, the Library and Home Sharing (24 h ago) is working perfectly and I think that will stay.

  • Why can't I see Apps in the Home Shared section?

I have an iPhone. My husband has an iPad and an iPod.  We have two separate iTunes accounts. Both are running Windows 7.
I have enabled Home Sharing on both computers. As a result, I can see my husband's Music, movies, TV shows, books, and playlists.  However, no where does it show his apps. Or vice versa on his computer. He can see my music, movies, tv shows, books, and playlists, but not the apps.  Everywhere I read, it does seem to say that apps can be shared as well.  But how is this possible? There is no listing for it.
Please help, I am becoming more and more frustrated with this.

There is no listing for apps at all when I click the arrow.
    This is what is listed:
    Music
    Movies
    TV shows
    Books
    Playlists
That is all that is listed.  Apps is not listed and I cannot figure out why.  Please help!

  • No Home Sharing since iTunes 10.6.1 (Windows 7)

I figured I'd start a new thread for people like me who had their Home Sharing BREAK since upgrading to iTunes 10.6.1 (it was working ok with 10.5, but I had that non-alphabetical bug with TV Shows on the AppleTV).  I have:
    Windows 7 (64-bit)
    iTunes 10.6.1
    iPhone 4
    iPhone 4S
    iPad 1 (x2)
    iPad 3
    AppleTV 2 (x2)
    AppleTV 3 (x1)
The problem is across devices.  In order to fix, I have to go down to my Windows PC and turn off Home Sharing, then turn it back on.
I've tried turning of IPv6 on my network settings, to no avail.  I've tried resetting my AppleTV - no help.  The only thing left to do is completely uninstall all Apple products and reinstall from scratch.  Anyone have a guide on how to do this?  I don't want to lose my playlists or playcounts.  HELP APPLE!  This needs to be addressed!

    Hi,
    Same as before!
    - droppings ot the main screen
    - loosing Home Share
    now even on iPads !
    Frustrating!
I'm now more than convinced that this is caused by the latest iTunes version.
As some others stated in other threads .... it seems that Apple doesn't really take care of this problem. So what if, if we could make them feeling the same pain as we do. ... Just by dropping them a mail as soon as we have the problem again. Not more often, we don't want to be unfair, but everytime it happens.
I found this feedback site http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
I will start now with this.... maybe this will help to rise a little bit of attention
    Hope THIS helps

This is the mailbody I always use
    Hello all,
Since the last update to iTunes Version 10.6.1 (7) streaming content (Movies and TV shows) to Apple TVs and iPads we have two major problems:
    - Home Sharing is lost during streaming (streaming stops even if a large portion of the content is already preloaded)
    - streaming stops and the main screen pops up (Home Sharing still available)
This happens sometime after some minutes, sometimes after several hours, but it surely happens.
I followed every advice I could found on this support website. There are now a lot of threads following this issue.
Sometimes it seems getting better, but hours later the same isues occured again. Watching content on this enviroment is a real pain and very frustrating.
As many others I'm now convinced that the latest update of iTunes caused this problem.
Our family enviroment contains the following Apple products:
    - iTunes on a Win7 32 bit Noname PC (all content)
    - second iTunes on a iMac with OS 10.6.8 (all content)
    - third iTunes on a MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.8 (daughter, only selected content)
    - fourth iTunes on a Win7 32 Samsung Notebook (son, only selected content)
    - all iTunes sharing the same Home Sharing ID
    - 2 Apple TV second generation
    - 1 Apple TV first generation
    - 2 iPod touch (bought last year)
    - 2 iPads (second generation)
all firmware or software are on latest available patchlevel.
At this moment, I can not recomend to others to buy this products.
I will drop this feedback everytime my famiily and I facing this problem... just to help you to get a better feeling of the urgency of this issue.
Thanks for every effort in advanced.

  • ITunes and Windows 8 Home Sharing (Possible Fix)

If this fix has been posted elsewhere then I apologize, but I wanted to share what I stumbled on as a possible for for iTunes Home Sharing and Windows 8. I did a lot of port forwarding, both on my router and my Norton firewall, but nothing seemed to help. After a few minutes my Apple TV and iOS devices would stop seeing my iTunes library. The only way to fix it was to reboot the router.
On a whim I looked in my Device Manager and found under Network Adapters a device called Microsoft Kernel Debug Network Adapter. I disabled this, rebooted my computer, and have since no issues with Home Sharing. It's only been a few hours, but that is the longest I've gone since installing Windows 8. I'll look in the morning to see if it still works.
So give this method a try and see what happens. Hopefully it will fix your problems.

Here are the three steps I took to get Home Sharing working successfully on Apple TV. This has worked for the better part of a week so hopefully it will work well for others.
In your software firewall create two new Inbound Rules. Open port 3689 (TCP) and port 5353 (UDP) to All Programs.
If your hard drive goes to sleep after a certain period, be sure to change to something greater than 30 min. (Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change Plan Settings -> Change Advanced Power Settings -> Hard disk -> Turn off hard disk after -> Setting)
On your Apple TV change when it goes to sleep. I changed mine to 10 hours.
This seems to keep the connection alive. On occassion it will look like it gets stuck loading, but just let it go. At some point it wil kick on. If you generates a connection error just try loading the media again and it should start.

  • Home sharing does not work as standard windows user

I have two computers in my home network - Windows 7 Professional Desktop and a Windows 7 Professional Laptop.
Both running latest itunes 11 software.
Win7 Desktop has two accounts: Administrator and JB (a standard user)
Win7 Laptop has two accounts: Administrator and JB (a standard user)
Home Sharing is enabled on both using the same apple ID.
I can log in on the desktop as JB/standard user and see my apple TV.
I can log in on my laptop as JB/standard user and do NOT see my apple TV ( the airplay icon is just missing).
Additionally - I do not see "shared" libraries on either machine.
On the laptop, if i open itunes by "run as administartor" I am then able to see the other "shared library" and ALSO see the apple tv Airplay icon.
Not able to figure out why I cant see home sharing or the apple tv Airplay icon unless I run as an administrator on the laptop.

Our Apple TVs continue to lose connection ever since installing Mountain Lion on the host computer. The only thing that fixes them is to quit and relaunch iTunes, which only works unti the ATV goes to sleep. If a movie is paused for more than a few minutes and the ATV goes to sleep, pressing play again on the remote is greeted with "There are no movies on this computer" or "Turn on Home Sharing."
If we stop a video on one ATV and attempt to resume it in another room, the error begins again. The other ATV can't connect until iTunes is relaunched.
My guess is that it has something to do with the new [annoying] security settings. But I still haven't found a fix other than restarting iTunes everytime we want to watch something from our downloads. Fail.

iTunes 9 Home Sharing does not work on Windows 7 x64.
    Getting the following error message:
Home sharing could not be activated because this computer is not authorized for the account "iTunes account." Please authorize this computer and try again.
This is a bug since my computer is authorized in iTunes and there is only 2 computer authorized for my iTunes account, so I have 3 more left till I should get this message.

    I am using Windows 7 x64.
    I am running iTunes 9.0.2.25
    I am running Mcafee.
I can see and play music from the iTunes installation on my Windows 7 machine, but I CANNOT access the library to copy songs from this computer to other computers on my network.
YES, I have enabled "Home Sharing" using my iTunes account. NO, I have not authorized more than 5 computers on this account.
I believe this to be a Windows 7 related issue, as Home Sharing worked as advertised when I was using Vista (before I upgraded to Windows 7).
I CAN set up Home Sharing on two other (host) computers in my home network and it works. These computers are XP and a MacBook Pro. I CANNOT access my Windows 7 machine x64 to COPY music from one autorized library to another. Please help!!!
P.S. - I have attempted to get this to work by turning OFF my McAfee firewall. Windows firewall is disabled.

  • Home Sharing will not work with my Windows 8 64bit with new itunes.  All of my Apple TVs will not see my library and my iphones will not function with the "Remote" App.  They all did before.  Only thing that has changed is new PC/itunes.  Any Ideas?

Installed a new Windows PC on my home network.  PC is Windows 8/64bit. with latest version of itunes 11.1.4.62 for 64bit.  My itunes works, but I can not get Home Sharing to function now.  None of my Apple TV's can see my computer library and prompt me to turn it on.  All of my iphones, pods, pad, can not use the "Remote" app.  When you prompt your phone in Remote App to "add library" and you get the code....iTunes doesnt give you the remote screen where you can enter the code.  I have reloaded iTunes, reset my router, updated all devices.  You can turn on "Home Sharing" on iTunes, but then it closes and doesnt seem to link my devices like it use to.  Also, when the new version of iTunes is up on my PC, you can see the other devices to AirPlay to like you could before.  However, I can send items from my iphone to stream to an Apple TV, I just cant link them all like I could before and control the music playing to multiple Apple TV.  Growing fustrated.  Any ideas, would be helpful.

You are a legend!!  I have spent countless hours uninstalling, reinstalling itunes, playing with firewall settings, reading articles on this problem!!  I only have to un-sync my iphone 5 and then the airplay icon magically appeared!!!  Maybe I have too many devices syncing via wi-fi, or maybe it is the Iphone syncing??
Whatever - one step and now I can enjoy my music through my house again!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you
