Windows 7 64-bit Adobe Reader 9.3 and IE8 - Opening PDF in tab and then closing said tab causes IE8

I've been running Win7 64-bit for quite some time now and only up until a few weeksa go started to have problems with Adobe Reader continuing to ask me how I wanted to read a document and to click here to save the settings and not ask me again.  The check box never worked and it would continue to ask me constantly every time I opened up a new PDF file.
I finally figured out how to get rid of the nagging dialog box but now each and every time I open up a new tab with a PDF file in it and then close the tab, IE8 crashes and tries to recover the tab.  This never happened before.
What is causing this and how do I fix this?  Please advise.
Upgraded to 9.3 this morning and problem remains.  Tried uninstalling all traces of Adobe Reader and reinstalling but still no dice.
Problem also happens at home on a similar computer running Win 7 64-bit and running an older version of Acrobat and Adobe Reader.

Try this:
Right click on the IE8 icon in the taskbar. A menu pops ups up. Right click again on "Internet Explorer". Then left click on "Run as administrator". I had a different problem with Reader and this solved the problem. The problem I had was I could not save pdf files in IE8. This solved that problem.

    can you help me plz?

    Hi,
You have to remove the back hand file which was present in the Local Disk C >> Program Data >> Acrobat, if you remove this file. It will remove the SSH (Software System History) from the PC. Then you can efficiently reinstall the Adobe Acrobat XI

  • Adobe Reader 11 - error message when opening PDF's

I have an iMac OSx.  Using Adobe Reader 11.  Everytime I open a PDF I get "an internal error has occured"  I was trying to uninstall Adobe Reader 11 but the uninstaller in my Applications/Utilities is not there.  HELP!!

It's almost identical to what you posted. I think the difference was that I was trying on a machine with complete install of Acrobat which has the font packs and hence there was no hang/crash. Your file doesn't hang on that machine either.
If you look at the fonts panel in your document: File>Properties>Fonts, you'll notice that it uses MS-PGothic font which is a Japanese fonts, and hence the Japanese font pack might fix this.
Also, since you mentioned ACE.dll, the other possibility might be that there are conflicting DLLs on the system, commonly referred to as DLL Hell. Another thing to try would be to search the system for ACE.dll and see which all software install it.

  • Updated Adobe AIR and now Adobe reader crashes when trying to open PDFs created by Livescribe

Adobe AIR auto-updated earlier this afternoon, and now every time I try to open a PDF created by Livescribe, Adobe Reader crashes.
    Adobe Reader XI ver. 11.0.0.379
    Adobe AIR ver. 3.5.0.1060
    Windows 7 Pro, SP1
I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling both AIR and Reader, to no avail. I can provide install log for AIR if needed (just need to know how to upload it, or if you'd rather me paste the text).
    Thanks for any help,
    -Rick

    Hi Rick,
I'm surprised that the AIR update would cause Reader to crash.  I received an update to Reader recently (yesterday I think), could this have also occurred on your system?  Regardless, we should be able to drop back to an earlier version of AIR to try it out.  Just uninstall and then grab AIR 3.4 located here:
    http://download.macromedia.com/air/win/download/3.4/AdobeAIRInstaller.exe
Please let me know if this helps.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Adobe Reader 10.1.8 cannot open pdfs on latest iMac and MacOS

Hello, I have a new iMac that I got last spring (Feb. 2013) and it came with the latest Adobe Reader, 10.1.8. (I just recently updated my mac OS to Maverick.) Since starting to use this new computer I've had huge problems opening pdfs. that I download from reliable websites via Adobe Reader. The warning I get is that the pdf file is not a supported file type (or it has been damaged), which I don't believe because I am able to open them on my older iMac. I am also able to open pdfs. received via email. This problem is terribly annoying and I'd be grateful for help in solving it. Many thanks.

    Mac HD/Library/Internet Plugins
Trash the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files.
    Empty the trash.
Dowenload the latest Reader (XI -11.0.4) here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
Install it to replace Reader X.
PDFs downloaded with Safari will no longer be damaged.
Unfortunately the ones that say they are... are, and you should trash them too.

  • Since upgrading to 3.6.15 and Adobe Reader X I can't open PDF files

If I try and open a PDF file get message saying problem with Adobe reader, if it is running exit and try again. However it is not running. I then get a blank screen. If I close FF next time I try to open it a message says FF is already running and I have to reboot to clear the problem. This happens on both my desktop running XP and my laptop running Vista but only since I upgraded to 3.6.15. I upgraded Adobe to Ver X a week ago and it worked fine until the latest FF update.
The problem doesn't happen in IE.

The same as all other Mac apps. Which is to say:
    Open Finder.
Look in the left column for Applications.
    Click to open.
Find Adobe Reader. Open a folder if needed.
Double click to launch Adobe Reader.

  • How do I get Adobe Reader to stop trying to open the game Diversion and find a better "opener"?

I downloaded the game Diversion at least 4 times but I couldn't find it.  When I finally did, it turned out that Adobe Reader was trying to open it.  How do I fix this with the right "tool" for the job?

    What is your operating system?
    What is "game Diversion"?

  • Adobe reader 9.3 won't open pdf's

    Using XP Pro SP3
This just started a few days ago, but everytime I try to open a .pdf or adobe reader itself, I get the following message:
"Adobe Reader 9.3 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
If I were to log off the user account and log in as admintrator adobe opens just fine.  All users have the read and execute permission.  The computer this is installed on is for the print center of my school, so we can't leave it open in administrator the whole time.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled reader, but this has not helped.  Are there any ideas to address this?

I am having the exact same problem. I have a Toshiba computer, Windows XP Professional 2002, service pack 3.
Everything about Adobe used to work - and after an update, nothing worked anymore, except: I can open a PDF through a window, but if it's attached to an email, or if the PDF is on the desktop, I get the exact same error message.
    I've tried:
    1. Un-installing and re-installing
    2. Going into Control Panel and "fixing" the program in change/remove programs.
If I double click, or try to load Adobe Reader, I get the same message. I find this very frustrating!
Any further information would be much appreciated

  • Adobe Reader XI suddenly refuses to open PDFs.

Adobe Reader XI in my wife's pc suddenly refuses to open PDFfiles. A message pops up saying: EULA display has stopped to function. I have reinstalled Reader XI several times. Installation runs fine, but it still refuses to open. During installation I have disabled antivirus programme Norton Internet Security. We have tried Reader 10 and 9, but they don't function either. Earlier we have opened thousands of PDFs. We never had this problem before! We use Windows 7 and Explorer. What can we do? Please help! Lisbeth and Carsten

I had the same problem just now and what worked for me was i archived a email in MS outlook using the Adopbe PDF dropdown menu and then I had full access to X Pro again.
    Hope that this helps

  • Adobe reader 9.3 won't open pdfs on 10.6 snow leopard

I just got a new mini with snow leopard. Every time I try to open a pdf, it gives me the message that adobe reader is not supported on this type of mac. Now what?
I can open a pdf by dragging it to preview and opening it there, but you shouldn't need the extra step.
    Thanks,
    Joan

Adobe Reader 9.3 is the most recent version and it is supported by your machine and its OS.
Highlight a PDF file and press command-I. Look for 'Open with:' in the Info window for the selected document and choose Adobe Reader from the list. If Adobe Reader doesn't appear in the list, scroll down to 'Other...' at the bottom of the list and select it. If you like, choose to open all documents of this type with Adobe Reader.

  • Adobe Reader 11 is unable to open PDF's from Internet Explorer 11

My boss is currently operating on the Adobe Reader 11 and often needs to use Internet Explorer 11 for certain programs.
Unfortunately the Adobe Reader is unable to open PDFs from Internet Explorer and often comes up with a message telling us that the file is either damaged, no longer exists or that there is a problem with the syntax.  She does not have this problem with Google Chrome.  We have tried several ideas regarding the security settings but nothing seems to correct the problem.  Could someone shed some light on how to fix this error?

  • Adobe reader not doing anything when opening PDFs

Hi, I have a client who's currently having trouble with their Adobe reader. They have many issues however I suspect they all lead back to the same issue and sorting one should sort them all. The first issue was that when double clicking/right click opening PDFs, nothing would happen no matter what method you used. When I checked the processes in task manager though, it turns out they were opening it's just that they weren't actually visible and I had no way to access them. This has also carried over to other software that this client uses and they can't see PDFs in them even though they actually are open. It's quite tough to explain but I was hoping someone could lend a hand with this, thanks!

    Hi Adam.Sedgwick,
What other applications is your client using to view PDFs? As far as Reader goes, it sounds like a reinstall may be in order. What version of Reader is your client using, and what operating system? If he or she hasn't already upgraded to Acrobat Reader DC, I would start there. Remove whatever version is currently installed, and then install the latest version from this page: Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions.
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Adobe Reader 9 won't automatically open PDF documents

Help please! When I double-click a PDF file, the get a message saying "Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view this file. Would you like to install Acrobat Reader now?" The problem is, I already have Reader 9 installed. If I check the "yes" box, the system attempts to install Acrobat Reader 7.0. When it determines that Reader 9 is already installed it terminates. The only way I can view a PDF file is to first open Acrobat Reader 9 and then open the file. This is maddening! What do I do to fix this problem?
