Windows 7 64 bit canon rebel xti compatibility issue

I am having trouble to get my canon rebel xti (400D) to work under windows 7 64 bit. You see the canon camera icon in the devices and printers window with a yellow triangle indicating it's not working properly. Did anyone have the same issue and even got an answer to it?
Thanks.

I believe I have a solution for you and any other XTi owners who don't have the "Print/PTP" option in their menu.  I was able to get my XTi to function with Windows 7 64-bit last night.  Here is what I did:
1) Installed the default Canon utilities disk that came with the camera (which installed without an issue, but wouldn't recognize the camera).
2) I downloaded the updated EOS Utility version 2.6.1 for Windows Vista x64 from here:http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=314&modelid=14256
3) I installed the default Canon utilities disk that came with the camera (which installed and opened without an issue, but wouldn't recognize the camera to download pictures).
4) I executed the 2.6.1 EOS Utility update that I downloaded and received the following error: "Installation program of EOS Utility requires administrator priveleges" even though it was being run as an administrator.  Any compatibility options that I selected on the installation resulted in the same error.
5) When you receive the error mentioned in the prior step, DON'T click the "OK" button.  First, navigate to the follwing path: "C:\Users\admin-user\AppData\Local\Temp\".  Inside this directory, you should see a directory named something like "CanonUPW_000".  Copy this whole directory to another location, then click "OK" on the installation program error on the screen (which removes the directory you just copied).
6) Open the directory that you copied in the last step and navigate to the following location: ".\CanonUPW_000\INST\INSTALL\COMMON".  You should find an "Install.exe" file in this directory.
7) Open the properties of this "Install.exe" file, then select the "Compatibility" tab.
8) Select the "Change settings for all users" button and select the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3).
9) Under the "Privilege Level" section, select the "Run this program as an administrator", then click OK twice.
10) Execute the "Install.exe" file.  The installation should start and finish succeffully.
11) The EOS Utility should successfully open after you execute it (following the installation).
12) The only thing that doesn't work exactly the same as with using EOS Utility with XP.  When you plug your camera in, the program doesn't automatically open.  After opening the EOS Utility, you can connect the camera and download pictures, or utilize the software's remote control function.
I hope this works as well for you as it did for me.

  • Canon Rebel Xti/400D Will not download Photos

I have a canon Rebel XTi/400D . Up until recently I had no Problem downloading photos from the camera onto the MacBook. I recently downloaded an update OS 10.8.3  and can no longer download the photos .

    testdepth wrote:
Here is why my Canon camera died.  There was a loose piece I could hear rattling around inside the camera body so I disassembled the body in order to open the body and see what fell out.  When I opened the bottom of the body a small silver screw fell out of the body.  Apparently this happens to be a problem with this model and maybe others.  A screw from the motherboard backs itself out and rolls around inside the camera body shorting out the DC/DC power board and blowing the fuse labeled "P" on the power board. When I placed a meter across this fuse it reads infinity instead of a normal dead short.
How does a screw located inside of a camera body unscrew itself.  This is not a software issue or a failed electronics issue and this camera would still be working rihgt now if the screw had not backed out and shorted out my camera.  Canon's answer is of course that they no longer service this camera.
It sounds as though you have two options:
    1)  Admit that it's time for an upgrade and take advantage of Canon's "Loyalty Program" to get a new camera at a good price. The XTi was a pretty decent camera in its day (my wife and I each had one), but more recent Rebels are far better. My wife's current camera, a T2i, is a major improvement, and there have been several new models since.
    2)  Since you're obviously not a newbie, try to do the repair yourself. Look around for an XTi that still turns on, but has a cracked sensor, worn-out shutter, or other fatal flaw (such a camera should be available for a pittance), and re-use its power board. You have nothing to lose but a few hours of your time.

  • Problem Importing photos from Canon Rebel XTi -- Iphoto '08

When I plug in USB cord to camera and MacBook, then turn on my Canon Rebel XTi, iPhoto opens up but will not read the CF card. The status light on the camera just blinks red as if it working on it but it never does show the photos in iPhoto08 and the camera doesn't show up on the sidebar either although it used to but doesn't anymore.
I know that my CF card is ok because when I use it in my Canon Powershot S400 it works fine, and I'm able to import photos fine.
    Help please?

Thanks, I'm fairly certain that WILL work since the card works with iPhoto in my other camera fine.
I don't have a card reader and I'd like to figure out how to fix the problem I have with my Rebel XTi. Any suggestions on that?

I have downloaded pictures to iphoto from my Canon Rebel XTI.  I can not email or move any pictures that are vertical.  Also, if I double click on the photo to enlarge it, the screen flills with a big exclamation mark.  I need to email these photos out.  HELP!  Also if I do a slide show with the album, those pictures do not show up.

    This:
if I double click on the photo to enlarge it, the screen flills with a big exclamation mark.
is why you can't do this:
I can not email or move any pictures that are vertical.
It means that iPhoto can't find the photos.
    What version of iPhoto?

  • Canon Rebel XTI question

After using a digital point and shoot for the last 5+ years, I have finally entered the DSLR world. I just purchased a Canon Rebel XTI last week. I haven't attempted to upload any pictures to iPhoto yet. Do I need to install any of Canon's software before I upload the pictures or will it work automatically?

    jsanders6,
My wife has a Canon XTi (and Macbook) and there was no need to download the Canon software.
I have a Canon D20 (and Macbook Pro) and it too loads directly into iPhoto with no difficulty.
Apple has a listing of "compatible" digital cameras, but even some cameras not listed may load without difficulty.
I would not load the Canon software, especially if you plan on using iPhoto to manage your library of photos.
    Good luck,

  • Downloading raw images from Canon Rebel XTi and problem with Border FX

Aperture no longer downloads raw images from my Canon 400D / Rebel Xti and installed Lexar Professional UDMA card. I am able to download images to my Dell laptop. This is a new phenomenon only occurring since about 10 days ago. I am currently able to download images from my Canon 5D.
Also, my computer has locked up 4 times today when I have been starting Border FX. I have seen a screen saying that I have to restart my computer by holding down the on button. I have the most recent version of the Border FX software.
    Any suggestions please?

Join the crowd! I just started to experience exactly the same thing on both of my systems. Apparently the latest raw camera drivers broke something related to Canon Rebel cameras. I'm using the Rebel XT.
I tried a quick experiment the other day. I shot a bunch of test photos forcing the camera to store them as JPEGs. I was able to download those without a problem. I then forced the camera back to raw mode and shot a few more pictures on the same memory card. The JPEGs that I was able to download previously no longer will download and neither will the raw files.
I tried reverting to the older camera raw driver on my notebook but for some reason it won't let me do that. I haven't tried reverting on the desktop yet.
Hopefully this problem is fixed quickly. I've got a ton of pictures from a recent vacation I'd like to off load.
By the way, this affects the iPhoto, Aperture and Image Capture apps.

  • Installing Acrobat Standard 6.0 under Windows 8 & Microsoft Office 2013 - compatability issues

In older Windows/Office versions, a PDF Printer was integrated into software, such as Word. this would allow you to print directly into Acrobat in PDF format.
Under Windows 8 Office 2013 there seem to be compatability issues and I can not longer print to Acrobat.
Are there any patches or solutions out there ??

    i'm a fan of doPDF:  www.dopdf.com

  • CS2 BRIDGE- CANON REBEL XTi

I HAVE A CANON XTi. WHEN I TAKE IMAGES IN RAW, ADOBE BRIDGE DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THEM.
    ANY SUGGESTIONS. THANKS DON LYTTON

Any and all updates of ACR are released in tandem with the free, stand alone Adobe DNG Converter, which in each release supports the same camera models that ACR does. It does not need any version of Photoshop to work.
Therefore, you can use the latest release of the DNG Converter, at this time DNG Converter 4.3.1, to convert your files to raw DNG files that can be opened in any version of ACR starting with ACR 2.4.
If you have Photoshop CS2, use ACR 3.7.

  • Canon rebel XS batttery Issues

I dont use camera that often. That being said I havent used my camera much. may be I have taken 2K pics at most in th epast 1 year. But I started having issues with the battery that came with Canon very soon after owning the camera. I thought may be battery is becoming weak so I ordered a new one. Now new one worked fine for some timee and now that also loses charge even after taking like 20 pics. I will see green light or full battery indicator on the camera screen and next thing I see is that it has red light.
Battery charger - When I put the batttery for charging the red light stays on for 20 secs and than goes away. Should I see the light indicator on charger at all times or ust at the begining. And ofcourse even after putting it to charge, it wont charge.
I am going crazy. Please help if anyone had similar issues. I am not able to pin point the issue. Thanks so much.

I think it's got to do with the charger and not the batteries, based on what you described.  It's a case of the battery charger lying to you that a battery has been fully charged when it's not.  This happened to me with my Canon 50D charger.  I'd stick a battery in then it would charge it for about 5 mins then the light goes green but in fact the battery is near empty.  I would remove replace a couple times before it would properly charge.  It happens a lot more often with after market batteries but it would do the same for genuine Canon batteries too.  It gets to a point that I make sure the battery is being charged for at least an hour otherwise remove replace until it does.  I haven't tried cleaning the contacts with an eraser but that's a good idea...

  • Windows 8 installation - Upgrade Assistant compatibility Issue - Bluetooth Win7 Suite

Having procured an on-line download of Windows 8, from the Microsoft web site, I am a little concerned about an incompatibility identified by the Microsoft
     Upgrade Assistant; namely:-
     "Bluetooth Win7 Suite (64) - Atheros Communications"
This incompatibility was identified after restoration of an original copy of the Windows 7 operating system, as installed by the manufacturer of my PC! (Recovered from an Acronis image).
That is, the operating system, prior to installation of any personal software, or external hardware, or divers!
Hence, I can only assume, that "Bluetooth Win7 Suite (64)" is a sub component of one of the original components of the computer:
    ASUS P8Z68-V LE Motherboard
NVIDIA Quadro 600 1024MB Professional Video Card
    Intel  i7 2600K Processor (3.4 GHz - no over-clocking)
    16GB Corsair PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 Memory (4x4 GB sticks)
    Qty 2 Sony 24x DVD-RW drives
Qty 2 120GB Corsair Force 3 SSD (No Raid)
    Qty 1 1000GB 7200 HDD
    Onboard High Definition Audio
My plan was to perform a clean installation of Windows 8, but I have no understanding what the implications of this incompatibility will be!
Namely, what the function of  Bluetooth Win7 Suite (64), is! And what hardware it is associated with!
Whether a clean installation will work, without  Bluetooth Win7 Suite (64)
Whether Windows 8 install will have onboard drivers, for all of the above hardware!
After installation of Windows 8, and installation of the manufactures latest drivers, for the Motherboard and Video Card, will I have to search elsewhere
for a driver for the Bluetooth Win7 Suite (64)
I would appreciate any advice on this matter!
    Brian

    Hi,
Based on my research, it seems that Bluetooth Win7 Suite (64) is a program developed by Atheros Communications.
So, do you have any Bluetooth device? Did you install it?
Please also check if it lists in Programs and Features.
However, if you do not have any Bluetooth device or you do not use this program, in my opinion, it will not affect the installation of Windows 8.
    Hope this helps.

  • Battery for canon Rebel xti eos 400D

where do I find the battery that runs the date and time?

    Hi gorja55,
Thank you for the post.  The date/time battery is inside the battery compartment of the camera.  If you remove the battery that powers the camera, along the front edge of the battery compartment you should see a slide out battery holder tray that has "CR2016 3V" written on it.  If you slide the tray out, you can replace the CR2016 lithium battery that holds the date/time settings in the camera.
If this is a time sensitive-matter, additional support options are available at Contact Us.

  • PSE7, Windows 7 (64bit) and Rebel Xti

I upgraded my computer a few months ago and installed PSE7. Everything seems to work fine so far... except for one little glitch with my Canon Rebel Xti. When I connect the camera to the computer to download new photos, the automatic dialogue box that used to come up in Elements when I was using Windows XP doesn't come up automatically anymore. Instead I actually have to open the Elements Editor and manually select "Get Photos". Not a huge deal, just a few extra steps. I thought it had something to do with my settings - either for my camera director or possibly for PSE7, but if that's the case, I can't seem to figure it out. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
There is a driver released back in July '09 that supports Windows 7 64bit.

  • Compatibility Issues with CS2 and Windows 2000 XP??? This is supposed to be THE one operating system CS2 DOES WORK ON? Can someone help - I really need my CS2 back! Thanks.

HELP! Years ago - SEVEN to be exact- I PURCHASED Adobe CS2 and used it extensively. Then I was in an accident that took five years to recover from. After my recovery I tried to get back to using my Adobe products only to find that Adobe was discouraging use of CS2 and since I OWN a LICENSE and that was the LAST version I used I wanted to begin again with a version I am familiar with. Many months later, apparently I wasn't the only one who wanted to KEEP USING CS2 and now Adobe has made it possible to download this version for PC and MAC, BUT due to OS compatibility issues Adobe continues to discourage downloading and use. HERE'S THE THING: I have the SAME SYSTEM running the SAME OS as when I first PURCHASED IT. I have downloaded the EXACT SAME VERSION of CS2. It installs fine. But I cannot OPEN the application and the troubleshooter reports there are "COMPATIBILITY ISSUES". WHY?!?!?!?!?
I'm on a PC running Windows 2000 XP. I OWN a LICENSE for Adobe CS2 and it used to run on this very same machine. I had to re-format my system two years ago so it has much more free space but when I  try to OPEN the application it won't run. When I run the Windows Troubleshooter it reports system compatibility issues?! Can anyone advise me what to try now??? Thank you.

Yes, I have. My system was completely cleaned of everything and I'm just now RE-INSTALLING CS2 for Windows2000 XP from the Adobe site that gives you versions to select for your OS. I have successfully downloaded disks 1,2 and 3 and I can INSTALL disks 1 and 2, but it FAILS at disk 3. I REALLY need to resolve this today because I need to submit some work by tomorrow and the troubleshooting isn't helping!
Can you advise anything else . . . anyone? Thank you!
