Windows 7 64 bit image install question.

My current configuration is as follows: I have my OS (c:/) installed on a separate 150GB HDD.  I have a second 450 GB HDD where I have installed all my applications {d:/Program Files, d:/Program Files(x86)}.  I would like to replace the 150 GB
HDD with a bigger drive and install my current image.  However, will this affect my applications on the 450 GB HDD?  Will this work?
By all means let me know if I should not have set my OS install in this manner or suggest a better setup; I'm all ears.  Thank you.

Hi!
If you replace the HDD with a new one and reinstall Windows, allmost all appications installed to D:\ will stop functioning. This is because even though you specify D:\ as install directory, files will be placed on the C-drive.
Also, all changes made in the registry by the application will be lost, since it resides on C:\.
The only way that MIGHT work, is to create an image-file of your C-drive and clone it to the new one.
This is something I do not recomend since you will also clone all temporary files and possibly infected files that might be present.
Chaging disks are never fun when you have a lot of applications, but I would recomend a completely new installations and the reinstallation of the applications.
Your setup is just fine and supported, but unless your main drive is a SSD with limited space or you use applications that uses the disk at maximum, there is no gain in doing this.

  • Can you use and iso version of windows 7 64 bit to install windows through bootcamp?

I saw windows 7 64 bit online cheap and it was and iso. If I put it on a disc, could I use it to install windows through bootcamp?

You can use the iso direct from Bootcamp assistant and put it on a USB if your Mac has the ability to boot from a USB flash drive.
If your Mac has a built in cd drive you will need to burn the iso to disc (as an image) and use that to boot from.

  • Can't start virtualbox windows 7 32 bit image anymore please h[SOLVED]

    Hello guys,
Just recently, I upgraded my system by executing "sudo pacman -Syu". It upgraded my kernel and kernel header files and mesa devu etc... including virtualbox-ose 3.2.10-3.
    Someoutputs that could be useful:
(Please note I picked up only installed ones from the output)
    pacman -Ss virtualbox
    community/virtualbox-additions 3.2.10-1 [installed]
        Guest additions for VirtualBox

I also recompiled the new virtualbox modules by doing:

On my archlinux (64-bit) system, I installed windows 7 (32-bit) using virtualbox-ose. It was working fine before I did the upgrade. Now, whenever I try to start the windows 7 (32-bit), it starts the windows 7 until the windows logo comes (just before the login mask of windows 7 comes), my computer restarts itself without giving any error or something. My pc just restarts itself. I think this is only related to virtualbox. When I do not try to start virtualbox, arch linux itself is working fine so far. Only when I try to start the windows 7, my pc gets restarted. Have you guys had any problem of this kind? First, I will wait for your responses. The options that I could think of right at the moment are:
    1. Downgrade the kernel back (I do not know how to and do not see it as a good choice)
    2. Downgrade the virtualbox-ose only (I also do not know how to do that.)
    3. Uninstall the virtualbox-ose and reinstall it again without removing my windows 7 OS (32-bit) (I hope I can continue using it)
    4. Delete the existing windows 7 OS and try to install freshly new Windows 7 OS again
Guys, please help me. I really need to use windows 7 sometimes. I would be really grateful if some of you guys can help me.
And again thanks for reading my long post.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi guys, thanks for your responses.
What is this vboxnetflt for? Which modules are the essential modules for virtualbox? What I mean is: do those nice features like mouse point integration, full screen supportment etc... rely on vboxnetflt and vboxnetadp?
What I have in my configuration file is:
    MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes"
    #MOD_BLACKLIST=() #deprecated
    MODULES=(vboxdrv vboxnetflt vboxnetadp)
I think vboxnetadp is used for networkiing. and vboxnetflt sounds like network filtering stuff. Can someone please confirm me? I think the problem was the sequence of upgrading. Firstly it updated the kernel and then installed the new version of virtualbox. I think if it could install the new version of virtualbox first and then the kernel, it would go without any problem, just my opinion as I said.
Let's keep tracked on this. Maybe someone will find a solution before virtualbox developers :-)

  • Upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit Custom Install

Satellite A205-4639. Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit factory installed. Purchased from Office Max.
The instructions for a Custom Windows 7 install say to create a recovery DVD before proceeding. Instructions for creating the DVD say go to Windows Start Menu and type "Recovery Disk Creator" into the search box.
Results = "No Items match your search".
Is this on a hidden partition somewhere? I still have to dig out the box the laptop came in to see what disks came in the box, but I don't remember a Recovery DVD being in there.
What are my options if it's not?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Looking at the detailed specs for that system it doesn't appear to have the Recovery Disk Creator software on it.  You should check the documentation and other items that came with the laptop to see if recovery disks were included or not.  Also, go into Disk Management in Administrative Tools to see if that system shows the recovery partitions or not.  See this support document for more details.

    Dear All,
    Good day!,
This will be my first post to the community and looking forward for an expert advise on the issue am facing with Lenovo ThinkPad USB Port Replicator with Digital Video drivers in Enterprise 64bit running on T440, following are the details:
    Environment:
Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit installed on T440 where all drivers are up to date for all devices though (System Update 5) tool.
Requirement: Usage of Lenovo ThinkPad USB Port Replicator with Digital Video (M01060) which will be connected to .
    Steps followed:
Connected to the port replicator before installing the device driver.
Download and installed device driver from the link: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-73088
    3.    Issue: After installing the device driver above, system reboots and after logging back using the local admin account or any other windows account (DWM service) crashes along with any other software installed (Ms. Office, Lync, IE9, ...ext). Tried uninstalling the driver, rebooted and Windows runs smoothly again back with no errors.
    4.    Questions:
T440 hardware compatible with Lenovo ThinkPad USB Port Replicator with Digital Video ?
Which USB version Lenovo ThinkPad USB Port Replicator with Digital Video has ? (2.0 or 3.0) ? did I missed some special drivers for USB ?
Any other links for the above driver can be found for Win 7 Enterprise 64bit ?
For 3 days, am searching the web for a similar issue, found and followed all troubleshooting steps mentioned by others but none of them helped. I will really appreciate your support if any expert can advise. Thanks in advanced

  • Windows 7 64-Bit cannot install itunes 32-bit or 64-bit

Hello, I have a Windows 7 Home premium 64-Bit laptop.  I downloaded the 64-bit version of itunes.  When I attempt to install, I received a message that states that the version of the file is not compatible with the version of windows I'm running.  I then downloaded the 32-bit version of itunes, and received the same message.  Thanks for your help in advance.

There was a very similar problem earlier this month (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1355293, in German), but we never found what caused it or how to fix it.
If I were to encounter this problem I would try a System Restore to a date when Reader still worked correctly.

  • 5.0.1 with Windows 7 64 bit clean install.

    Hi,
I had no problems running Desktop with same 1 month old first tier laptop (Dell Latitude 6500) under Vista SP2 and it'sa  no go with 64 bit Windows 7. I've updated BIOS and all of Dell's drivers to current releases. I see the RIM virtual serial ports COM3, 4) and don't see any application errors in event viewer.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hi there!
I wound up doing a full de-install and re-install when I updated to Win7 Ultimate x64...here is the process:
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
Hopefully that will get things going again.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Do I need to install CS3 on Windows 7 64 bit before installing CS5 Upgrade?

I am replacing a graphic designer's Windows Vista laptop with a Dell Precision T5500 desktop.  Do I need to uninstall CS3 from the laptop and decommission the serial number?  Then do I need to install CS3 on the new desktop before installing the CS5 upgrade?  I was told I needed to decommission the installation, but I don't remember having to do that with other installations.  Thanks in advance!

You should definetly deactivate any software before uninstalling. But you don't have to install CS3 in order to install CS5. Just have the serial number handy for verification. That said, depending upon the user's needs, you might want to leave CS3 available.

  • Windows 7 64 bit clean install

    Hello,
    I have a Z61t 9440CTO, T5500 CPU, 3GB RAM.
I would like to replace my HDD with 60GB SSD and make a fresh install from Win7 64 bit DVD. Is this doable? Does BIOS v3.03 support Win 7 64 bit?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum!
You should have no problem installing W7 on a SSD in that Z61t.
However, some SSDs do not play nice with older ThinkPads. Which SSD are you planning on using?
