  • How to get Illustrator 10 to run on windows 7 ultimate and not in XP mode?

I have been running Illustrator 10 on windows 7 pro with no problems. I upgraded to a new computer with windows 7 Ultimate and Illustrator will only run in XP mode. It will not open my existing files stating that they were created in a newer version.
How can Illustrator be run in windows 7 Ultimate?

Actually, if you go to the program .exe file (usually in Program files(x86)\Adobe\Illustrator 10\Support Files\Contents\Windows).
Right click on it and select properties.
    Select the Compatibility tab.
    In the section "Compatibility mode".
Check the box "Run this program ...."
From the dropdown list select Windows 7
    In the "Settings" section
Check "Disable visual themes" and "Disable desktop composition"
This will allow Illustrator to run normally in Windows 7 Pro and Ultimate 64bit systems.

flash player has been installed multiple time without errors but bbc news website and even flash player help say it isn't. How do i get out of this loop? - using windows 7 ultimate and latest IE11

I have had the same problem for WEEKS and I cannot access any sites that use Flash. Flash has been installed on this computer since I bought it in 2012. I have allowed auto updates but for weeks the updates never get past Step 2 - is this because I do NOT want the Google Tool bar? I use NO tool bars as there is only 6 inches of vertical screen space. Is this because I uncheck wanting Chrome as a default browser?  It is already installed, I just don't use it.  I came to this site and ran the check is it installed and the system says it is either not installed or not enabled. Version 14 just downloaded about 30 minutes ago - but did not progress to Step 3 although a pop up screen came up with a finish button, which I clicked. WHAT is the problem and how do I fix it?  If this were just a compatibility bug between IE11 and Adobe they have had plenty of time to fix it.

    Hi peggkel,
Are you saying you just want to change your home page to Yahoo? Not to worry, it's quite easy! You should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]].
If that doesn't work you should look at the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved].

  • I have just purchased my first MacBook Pro and it is pretty fantastic. I own the disks for Microsoft Windows 7 ultimate, and Office 2010 Professional Plus, and need to run them in this Mac. 32 bit discs. Can this happen in boot camp?

I am trying to run Windows and Mac OS on my brand new MacBook Pro. I need to be able to boot to either one. I don't need a lot of hard drive space for the Windows OS. However, the software discs I own for Windows are 32 bit install. Is there a way to run this with what I have? I have the new MacBook 13 in. with retina display. 2.6Ghz i5 with 8GB RAM and 512 GB PCIe Hard drive.

Hi guys! I have a new Macbook Pro purchased from Best Buy yesterday. I had the Geek Squad upgrade the RAM to 8 gigs (They only had PNY brand, I was concerned but went with it anyway). I had them install Boot Camp Windows 7 Ultimate. Today I picked it up and when I started playing with it I learned that they installed the 32 bit version of Win 7 Ultimate instead of the 64 bit version, why, I have NO IDEA.
So, I want to replace the Win 7 installation with the 64 bit version but have read that this can be tricky. What is the proper way to do this? I'm not sure I trust the Geek Squad to do this for me.
I assume I need to reformat the Windows partition, defragment and then install the 64 bit version of Win 7 Ultimate, but am not completely sure. I want to be sure that I do NOT do anything that could affect the Mac side
    What do you guys think?
I think you should take it back to the Geeks and tell them what you want, I also think you should backup before you do.
You do not need to reformat or repartition, you need to reinstall Windows from a 64bit copy, 32 & 64 have identical requirements as far as partition and format go, defragmenting has nothing at all to do with your needs.

  • Windows Vista Ultimate and Error -42018

    Hi there,
I upgraded to Windows Vista Ultimate about a month ago. I was trying to play music and download new content and the new content downloads would stop with -42018 - unexpected error.
I had to run the compatability wizard and allow Windows XP SP2 settings with administrator access to correct the issue.
I also lost most of my licensing when I upgraded. Hold off for I-Tunes to work with Vista if you are thinking about upgrading.
And on a side note, I think that the new Windows Media "Experience" in Vista is not all that great.

  • Windows Vista Ultimate and Oh Crap!

    Hello All,
This post is a bit of a question and a bit of advice. I am a System's Analyst / Network Engineer. I have a lot of experience with computers, Windows, and Mac OS. Eight days ago I started working with a client on a brand new PC with ALL the bells and whistles. The PC is an HP Pavilion running Windows Vista Ultimate, RAID 1 (Mirror), Removable Media Drive, Great Sound via X-Fi, Great Video via Nvidia PCI-X, and SATA (Obviously since it's running a RAID array).
I got everything setup and running great and as the last step installed iTunes and Quicktime. My client has a few thousand songs, a ton of TV shows, and a whole mess of movies ALL purchased thru iTunes store. Nothing is pirated, stolen, or illegal on this computer. Now, here's where it gets good.
I did the import in a few stages to make the data transfer a little faster. I did music, then TV, then movies. I tested a song and it worked great. I went to play a TV show and the computer slowed to a halt. I let it go like this until activity started on the machine again. It took about 5 minutes and then iTunes crashed. A second later the computer blue-screened and rebooted.
As soon as the reboot occured the RAID array came up in a failed state. I had to rebuild the array and get back into Windows. I tried again with the TV show, had the same result, tried again with a movie, and again had the same result. I called HP and they told me to fresh install the OS so I did. Again, same result.
This has been going on now for a few days with several different tests and several array rebuilds and OS installs. I would have had HP replace the computer or the motherboard but NOTHING else on the entire PC was causing this problem and diagnostics showed no hardware issues. There is/was no reason to suspect faulty hardware or software other than iTunes and/or Quicktime.
Today I ran the final tests and a fresh rebuild. I found some documentation stating that iTunes had some compatibility issues with Vista and decided to try some other videos that I could run in Media Center. They worked flawlessly. I'm left thinking that these problems are specifically iTunes / Quicktime and will move forward accordingly. Apple has stated that they are working with Microsoft to develop a new version of iTunes that is fully compatible with Vista and I have chosen to wait until that version comes out before installing it again.
My question is if any of you have experienced issues like this? If you have, do you have any advice or things you did to make it work? Please comment here as I will be watching this post to see your responses.
My advice is to be very cautious when installing iTunes in Vista, especially with this sort of configuration. I've seen iTunes work fine in Vista before but this is the first time I've worked with a configuration like this. Please be aware of the potential problems. As I've stated earlier, everything else is working perfectly.
Thanks for your time and sorry for the long post. Have a great day!
HP PavilionCTO D4790Y   Other OS   Windows Vista Ultimate, 4 gigs of RAM, 256 Meg GeForce 7500LE PCI-X, RAID 1 SATA with 250 gigs

Thank you for the great responses, guys! This is exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping to get.
Rain-Man, your post is EXACTLY what I was hoping for. This computer is also running WD drives. I had a feeling that WD might have been some of the issue but it only happened on the SATA RAID config. The computer I set up right behind this PC (on another desk) is EXACTLY the same but does not have a RAID 1 setup and runs perfectly with iTunes.
Also, there is a Hauppauge TV tuner running in this PC and, in retrospect, I think may be conflicting with codecs. God forbid you would have multiple codecs installed on one PC....
I'm not going to sit here and bash WD or Hauppauge, but I'm not a big fan of either of these devices. One of the other things that bothers me is that the RAID is controlled by "Intel Matrix" which is the default software RAID controller in this HP product. There isn't any real control in the management console. All you can do is rebuild a failed array or view an existing configuration. That doesn't really say, "AWESOME" to me. Being an HP product I'm assuming this is pretty standard because it was the default software controller installed on this system.
Any way you look at it, I really appreciate the posts here. I agree that there is an issue that Apple needs to address. WD or not, the fact that people are having problems getting iTunes to work in Vista needs to be resolved. We pay for our music and our shows and our movies and deserve to have them working and not getting deleted, corrupted, or damaged when we try to play them or transfer them. I love the fact that Apple is incorporating new technology into their products but we pay for that technology and it should work.
If I hadn't backed up my client's iTunes folder I would have lost everything he paid for. He's a pretty cool guy but how would you feel if you lost a couple grand worth of music, TV, and movies? I would be pretty upset.
In the end, I think RAID or drive configuration on this PC is one of the major issues. It's something to do with the SATA controller and Vista combined with iTunes / Quicktime. I'm not exactly sure how that could be but I believe it's something Apple / Microsoft needs to investigate...
Please keep the posts coming as I will be checking here regularily for updates. Thanks for your input and I hope we're able to resolve this issue soon.

  • I recently upgraded my computer from windows vista to windows 7 ultimate and now i have to delete all the data in my iphone?

i have an iphone 3gs. i recently uprgaded my computer which ment it went from windows vista to windows 7 ultimate.I want to add new music from my computer to my iphone but it says i have to restore it and loose my itunes content. If i do that will i loose everything including texts and contacts? Help ! im so confused because im using the same computer as the first time!

The iPhone "thinks" it's a new iTunes libarary because your computer has a new operating system.  As long as all your music and other media is on your computer, you will be fine.  The iPhone will be erased because it "thinks" it's a new iTunes library, and the "new library" (which is actually your unchanged data) will be put back on.

  • Windows 7 Ultimate and RAID 5

I have had a win7 Ultimate 64bt running on a Dell XPS 420 with 4 drives.  Disk 0 is a 300GB containing the OS.  Disks 1,2,3 are 2TB seagate drives that I had installed and opted to create a RAID 5 volume.  One of the disks failed, it was easy
to identify as it was making a loud clicking noise.  I removed the drive and got a replacement.  When I installed the drive, as you can see in the picture, the bad disk 3, went to disk 4 and the new drive is now Disk 3.  My question is how to
get the new disk 3 to replace the old one disk 4 that is "missing".
I have looked far for information on using Raid5 on a Windows 7 Ultimate OS and have not been able to find any information.
Also, will my data will be restored?  I also used carbonite to backup all the important data but it would be nice to get the unimportant data back as well.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Fox tab stop working on windows 7 ultimate and running firefox 10.0.2

I'm having a problem with my fox tabs on my laptop running windows 7 ultimate. I have firefox 10.0.2. My fox tabs don't work and I'm not sure when it happen because I don't use it on my laptop a lot. I have a desktop running xp and it is OK on it. I use it a lot on the desktop. What do I have to do to get my fox tabs working again? I tried removing them and reinstalling them but it didn't work.

The last couple of days when I opened fox tabs none of my top sites was there. All I had was a black screen. It also was frozen and I had to close the tab and reopen it.
I don't know why but this morning it seems to be ok. The only thing I did yesterday was to update my plugins for real player 15.0.2.72.

  • Windows 64bit OS and drivers - Let's work together

I know a few guys on here, like me, are now starting to experiment with XP 64-bit and/or Windows 2003 Server 64-bit. I've been hunting on the web for sites with info on the problems and fixes associated with these OSes, lists of and links to available drives and advice on legacy applications, but found almost nothing.
If anyone wants to join me in this, I'm happy to host a very simple page listing driver links, results of application tests etc. etc. There's no point in going into loads of detail with the retail OSes due out within the next 6 months, but enough information to set up a usable system now seems a good idea.
We can start off by gathering all the known links on this forum to drivers like the Realtek and Promise ones and just add links as we go. I know from my own experience that it's possible to setup a gaming partition already with working audio, network and video drivers. There must be more drivers slowly becoming avialable over the next few weeks..?
I know some people have tried the VIA 4in1's on Win64 - did it work? I've tried Norton AV and that didn't. I plugged my Fuji digital camera in to Server 64 and it worked first time. What about "standard" printers like Laserjets, do they work? This kind of information must be useful to someone!
Anyway, if anyone has relevant links or info, add them to this thread. If we ever pool enough information to make it worth making a single page I'm happy to do it.

D_o_S, I have the same problem with my sound card. I have a Game Theater XP which has things like proper midi inputs which I don't want to lose. I'm resigned to the fact that 64-bit drivers might never be released for my card.
In my searches I did find a forum somewhere discussing Creative drivers, and the people there said Creative are known for not actively working with beta, and they believed no Creative drivers would be released before the XP retail product.

  • I changed from vista to windows 7 ultimate and now when i try to sync or get music from one device to antoher it basicly will not do it and wants to wipe my music because it is now not associated with my itunes?

    help?

Did you backup all your documents and data first? Normally your user profile contains a Music folder which in turn holds the iTunes folder. All the important details of your library are in there, with the media below in a folder called iTunes Media. If you lose this information and then connect your device to an empty iTunes library it will want to clean it out the device and start over.
    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new windows installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • Help me decide between Windows Vista Ultimate and Windows XP Pro

    I have an iMac 24", 2.8GHz w/4GBRAM.
I really only plan on playing some of the latest games on my Windows partition, but I also want to get the very best performance out of some of the games.
If DX10 means a loss of performance, than maybe I should stick with Windows XP?
The games I mostly play are:
    Flight Sim X
    Bioshock
    COD4: Modern Warfare
    a Few racing sims
    NeverWinter Nights 2
    Civ IV
    Farcry and Crysis
Based on those games... which Windows OS would perform best on my iMac?!

    Hi,
up to now I have avoided Vista mainly because another 130 Euros is not in my budget right now.
And since both my Macs don't have DX10 capable graphics cards I have no need for it.
Vista does have other improvements than DX10 inside, but DX10 is sure to be the standard for future games, so why go with a Windows that doesn't support it and most likely never will.
Games running under DX10 are indeed more demanding than under DX9 so it is also most likely that you will have a at least slightly lesser performance.
A real test for any system is Crysis and Unreal Tournament 3 at the moment and we will see more in the future.
So if I have to choose right now I would go for Vista.
    Regards
    Stefan
