Windows 7 64bit will not shut down after using firefox, Why???

After using Firefox the only way I can shut down is to kill the power, normal shut down does not work. When I use internet explorer I have no problem, unless I have used Firefox during the session.

The idea of a 3rd party unrelated app didn't seem reasonable, but in Windows, I brought up the the Windows Task Manager (similar to MacBook Activity Monitor) and started "ENDING" the tasks that seemed to be unrelated to the system but used for certain applications.
When I stopped a task related to my Linksys Music Bridge (I was using Airlink-101 music bridge tools to access the bridge) this allowed iTunes to start and stop without automatically restarting.
On XP, the task was "CMFLYWAV" not sure why it's called that, but I now use Bluetooth to send audio to my HiFi using a Logitech Speaker Adapter that works great, and doesn't cause problems for iTunes.
There are probably other unessential tasks running on those machine that still have this "won't shut down" problem.
Thanks for the hint, but I was heading down that road as the next step, assuming something else was forcing iTunes to stay active. But I would not have expected it to be a network speaker driver as it was in my case.

  • Windows 10 will not shut down completely? Power light stays on(official july 29th upgrade)

I just upgraded to windows 10 from windows eight and I'm facing shutdown problems because when I asked the PC to shut down; the screen goes off but the power light stays on and basically windows 10 does not shut down completely whenever I have to turn on my PC again, I have to force the power button down until it completely Shuts down and start it back up again.
I tried several troubleshooting tactics wants & browsed YouTube videos and but nothing seems work and I've seen people on this forum complain about same thing and am hoping HP fixes the problem.

YES!!!!! A Solution that worked.  Spread the news.  It has to do with the Intel Virtualization Tehnology. Didn't know what that was until this issue came up in Windows 10. First, find out if this is your issue.   1. I installed the 'Intel Processor Identification Utility' directly from Intel.2. After installation, open the program and go to the 'CPU Technologies' tab.3. If it says 'YES' for Intel Virtualization Tehnology, proceed. Solution...(at least on my system) 1. The next thing you have to do is go into the BIOS.  If you have not done this before, proceed at your own risk.         You need to restart the computer and enter the BIOS (for me I hit F10 at the HP screen)2. Within the BIOS, there is an 'Advanced Options' section3. In this section there is a line for 'Intel Virtualization Tehnology' and it will say enabled or disabled.  My computer said disabled.4. If this is the case, change the option to 'ENABLED'; then SAVE and EXIT from the BIOS.   The Computer will restart and from that point on Shut Down, Sleep, etc. has worked.  WOW this was a frustrating issue. Almost went back to Windos 8.  I take no credit for this solution, I pieced it together from other posts on this issue.  Hope this helps.

  • MBP will not shut down after installing patches

Over the last week I have installed all of the suggested patches, but now I find that my MacBook will not shut down! To shut it down I have to hold the power switch for 10+ seconds to force it.
Is this a known issue? if so, what is the solution?
Sorry if this has already been posted, I am at work on a really slow WinTel box.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello Terry,
Your problem might be some internet connection issue. If the pathes were not fully downloaded, the mac will not let you shut down or some error there etc. This will not happened frequently.

  • HP Pavilion G7 Laptop with Windows 8 will not shut down

Yesterday I did a recovery of Windows 8 and my Laptop works great. However, after doing a Windows update my Laptop did a restart displaying the % complete. I left this run overnight. This morning with a black screen, the computer's Fan running a full speed I am unable to shut down the computer.
Holding down the Power button does nothing. I can't even take the battery out because the computer has locked it's access. My Wifi button is stuck on, I've unplugged my computer but it does have a full charge.
So, How Do I Shut It Down? I've never seen this before.

I see you have a G7 notebook but what is your exact model?
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
I understand that after doing a Windows 8  update it restarted and remained at 0% complete.  You left it overnight and in the morning you had a black screen and the fan  was running but you are unable to power it off.  You tried holding down the power button  but are unable to remove the battery as it has locked access to the battery.
You have removed the AC power but it is still running on battery.
I have never heard of a notebook locking access to the battery before, however some models do not allow battery removal.
First I would try to do a hard reset.  HP Notebook PCs - Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues
If you are still unable to power off the notebook, please disconnect from AC power and just let it drain the battery until it eventually turns off.
Here is a  link to HP Notebook PCs - Computer does not start (Windows 8) in case you have a startup issue afterwards.

  • MB Pro 13" 10.6.8 Will not shut down after force quit everythin

    MB Pro 8,1 OS 10.6.8
Computer froze while Sophos Anti-Virus was updating. I force-quit everything. Finder would not restart. Used the Shut Down command from the apple menu, everything went well until I reached the background-picture-only stage of shutdown. It froze there and the power button is inop. Shows options to shut down or restart, but will do neither.
    IDEAS?

Sometimes after an update, you may have to wait awhile for it to shut down. The other day I was about to force mine to quit after waiting around 2-3 minutes. Finally it shutdown. After rebooting, it's working fine now.
You maybe just didn't give it enough time to finish what it was doing before shutdown.

  • Windows 10 will not shut down or sleep

Ever since installing Windows 10 my desktop PC will not go into sleep mode and will not even shut down - I have to press and hold the main power switch.I've searched for solutions, but the only ones I've seen so far relate to laptop power management options, which don't apply to desktops.I was running Windows 7 before I upgraded, and never had a problem putting the PC into sleep or shutting down before.I have run the power troubleshooter, but that hasn't helped. Can someone suggest a solution?

  • PowerBook G4 will not shut down after installing Leopard

Hi - has anyone found shut down problems (or restart for that matter) after installing Leopard. I've got 30Gb of hard drive free on a Powerbook G4 (3 years old).

    No I don't.
Looking around for answers to this one it seems it is a fairly common problem with new Leopard users. One solution (apparently from Apple) was to delete the cache folders in both the user's home folder and in the top-level system folder. I have tried that but no luck yet.

  • Will not shut down (must use Task Manager) & will not open new window

When I shutdown FF the FF window disappears, but a new FF cannot be started unless I manually end FF from Task Manager. When running I cannot "open Link in a new window" - nothing happens, but opening a link in a new tab works.
I am running FF3.6.13 on Windows XT. I ran antivirus software, so I don't think I'm infected. All other programs work fine. I deleted and reinstalled FF. I deleted FF and installed an older version. No luck.

  • CAUSE FOR IMMEDIATE CONCERN - MACHINE NOT SHUTTING DOWN AFTER USE

    Hello..
Usually I post very little with regards to my MDD G4, but it seems I am now suffering from some problems which maybe horrifying. Synopis of problem: I always run cocktail each night before I goto sleep and the computer goes to sleep.. problem: WHEN I ever have to reboot the system, it takes a VERY LONG TIME for the desktop screen to splash to the BLUE screen and reboot the machine.. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE??? Can someone help?? Is my hardrive dying or something?? Also, even with the large 120MM fan I have mounted in my system, it seems like its not doing its job and I can still hear trememdous amount of noise from my machine.
There problems never happened to me before, but I think its time for me to move to either an INTEL mac or POWER MAC G5. I think the MDD is dying!
    Someone please help!

    Japan,
Yeah, u could say I run cocktail pretty much everynight. So you r telling me not to run it everynight? I currently have 90-95GB space on my hard drive though. My OS install disk is Tiger 10.4 and I am running 10.4.11 - does it matter if it is 10.4?
Give me an example of corrupt directory.. All its doing is when I get ready to shutdown or restart to refresh the machine, it takes a long time before the desktop screen turns to the BLUE SCREEN and either restarts or shutsdown, depending what I want the machine to do. It never used to do this..
Also, I have three fans in my system.. As you know, I just recently installed a 120MM(large fan!) which is mounted on the roof of the optical drives. Though not really securly mounted I noticed the fan against the powersupply as its running.
Bottom front area where the ATA-66 drive cage is another small fan.. should I just remove that one since I have a very powerful 120MM fan cooling the case? last but not least, the PCI Fan card which is sucking out the hot air..
But I have noticed recently that my temperatures are RISING!! I am not sure if this means my machine is coming to its end, or is it that I just mounted the fan wrong on my optical drives' roof?
You also mentioned to me about defraging a hard drive where its not really needed in mac os 10.
Also, one more question.. is there a way to run OS 9.2.2 through sheepshaver on a Powermac based mac? I checked their website and it only mentioned non power mac based machines(intels).

    Hello vina8sy,
After reviewing your post, it sounds like the iPhone will turn off after a sync but the iPad will not. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • Several Apps seem to just mysteriously shut down after using for a while. Same with Safari, I will be using Safari and it shuts down. Face book too. I've reset and shut down my iPad 3 and restart it, but it stills shuts down. What to do?

Several Apps seem to mysteriously shut down after using them for a while. Face Book shuts down , netflix, Safari, and other Apps. They work fine for a short while, or a long while, and then shut down and it brings me to my regular desktop screen. I've tried restarting by completely shutting down the IPad until I see the apple pic and turned it back on, but the shutdowns of apps continue. Anyone else have this issue? It generally started shortly after downloading and installing IOS 7......

    Hi jennyoutwest,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The following articles will provide some troubleshooting steps for your iPhone.
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
If that does not resolve the issue, refer to page 146 in the iPhone User Guide to Reset All Settings:
iPhone User Guide for iOS 7
    manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
The final troubleshooting step would be to restore your device:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition. Before restoring:
Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes.
    Back up your device.
Transfer and sync content to your computer.
    Cheers,

  • ITunes 10.x.x.x Windows XP SP Will not shut down

Every time I run itunes 10, in this case 10.6.1.7 but for all iTunes in the past year or more - it will not shut down and stay shut down.
some suggest turning off "default player for audio" -- nice suggestion, but I do that and iTunes messages that I don't have privileges (I'm the administrator).
I turn off Bonjour -- itunes complains, but shuts down only to startup again.
I am NOT sharing music with other computers.
So the cryptic "don't have privileges" -- anyone know what Apple is looking for in this restriction?
Can't uncheck "default music player" -- anyone have a clue as to why not ?
    Thanks for looking.

  • Help! PowerBook G4 will not shut down using normal methods!

Recently, my PowerBook G4 Aluminum (1.5/1.67 GHz) will not shut down. It has recently started doing this. When I choose any of the shut down, restart, log out items in the  (apple) menu, it will not bring up a dialog. Same with pushing power button. I have to do sudo reboot in the Terminal to make it shut off, or otherwise I can just hold the power button. Tried resetting PRAM. Recently downloaded a few apps. Can anyone help?
    -The Mac Bot

It's been a long time since I've revisited this...
Reinstalled OS due to main account getting corrupted. Could not log in.
That did not resolve the corrupted account, so I booted up with command-S and issued a few commands to reset and force the Setup Assistant to run. That worked, allowed me to login and start fresh.
That did not solve the not shutting down problem.
I am able to "lock" the system (using MacLoc) and shut down from the login window.
Or if I have Fast User Switching enabled I can choose "Login Window..." from the menu, and shut down from there.
A long time ago, I edited a few .nib files inside /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow/Contents/Resources.
A reinstall replaced those files with the originals.
Still cannot shut down by pressing power button and clicking Shut Down, or choosing log out, shut down, or restart from the apple menu.
Important clue: If I press Shift-Command-Q (the log out hotkey) the window I am working with dims as if another window popped up, but no other window popped up.

I use uTorrent but it will not shut down when I quit

Any torrent program will and can destroy your computer.
You are not the first and will not be the last to learn this.
UnInstall and if your machine is capable Repair Permissions and shut your computer clear off, this allows it to reset and then restart your computer.  Be wary of anything you get from a torrent. Movie, Music, game, EVERYTHING.

Unplug it and let unit go dead. Then hold your Home button down and plug the USB power cord back in. iTunes should see it and then restore.
