Windows 7 Activation Key

The product key on the back of my Dell Laptop (SN: 6PSVPR1) is not easy to read. How can I get it?

Many OEM Windows installations don't use the attached product key (many use the embedded key in BIOS instead).
But you could try using a third party utility like Magical Jelly Bean, or ProduKey.

  • Windows Activation Key - Help!

My screen shattered, so I bought a replacement of the same model and copied the Windows partition over.  It works great, except that Windows claims it still needs activation.  Both computers had legitimate, similar licences for Windows.  If I can enter the Activation Key, I'd be all set, but can't find it in the packaging or on the laptop.
I don't want to reinstall windows, as the whole point was to keep up and running with everything already installed.
How do I get the key for my laptop?
    Thanks!

Happy to help, NirSoft has some good stuff. Avoid the online-adapted Key-Getters.
You could try msoft's migration software. They are touting it for transferring from XP to a new OS. I have never used it but as a developer, I am often rebuilding the OS from factory images (just don't ask!! -LOL) and I always resort to installing everything again, manually.
Most of the slick-trick apps that are supposed to make migration easy, take more time than just biting the msoft-poisoned-bullet and installing stuff myself.
Another option for you could be to use something like VMWare Player (free) and create a Virtual machine for all your stuff. Then that VM can be copied anywhere and all the installed stuff will work fine. I actually do that for my development platform as installing the dev-platform and up-dating with all my extensions can take a day or so every time. The down side to the Player is it is a little slower, but it is the best of the free VMs I have tried and I have tried a lot.

  • Re: Windows activation key and clean Win7 installation

    Hi,
    me again :-)
So, I will install the new ssd in my Tecra R840!
Since I do not want to clone my actual hdd to ssd but, instead, make a fresh window 7 professional 64 bit install, how can I accomplish this without any DVD (my previous Toshibas..
.I had 2 before, first one dated from 1997 had CD/DVDs with the OS!).
So, I have the activation key in the label at the back of my Tecra but I do not have the media with OS!
Please help to solve this :-)
    Regards,
    paulo

Since, I think, 6 years Toshiba doesn't offer notebooks with recovery DVDs anymore. Original recovery image for certain notebook model is saved on HDD and every notebook owner must/should create recovery disc using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator tool.
Please create this disc before you change anything and use this disc for further OS installation.
If you have more questions you are welcome.

  • Windows 7 Key (X131e)

    Hey guys,
I've got a Lenovo Thinkpad X131e with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit und a option for Win 8 with some win 8 recovery disks (but i only need win 7).
Some weeks ago I installed a SSD and installed a Windows 7 Pro .iso from the internet. I read that the bios got a back up of the Windows activation key and the activation goes automatically but this was a fail...
Some days ago windows suddenly asks for a activation key and I dont know where is should get this key. Under the battery is no key and I get the oem key from the bios with a tool but the windows-activation only say: "This is a windows-standard-key....and not for activating Windows 7 Professional 64bit".
I hope somebody can help me with this confusing activation of windows. My last chance is to install win 8 with the recovery disks and maybe downgrade to win 7 but i want to avoid this step.
    Thanks for your help!
I'm German, so I'm sorry for my average english

    Hi,
fresh Windows reduction for auto activation from the BIOS SLIC should be OEM. Perhaps your .iso is retail one. Reinstall OS from the same image but before you'll perform that ask google about ei.cfg file within .iso, what is it for and how it could help.
It's impossible to manually activate Windows using the key from the BIOS.
Why do not clone your image from the HDD to the new SSD if you still have it?

  • I  bought a new laptop (Dell ProBook; Windows 7.1) after a catastrophic crash of my old one. I installed my licensed copy of Photoshop CS3 on my new machine, and find that my activation key will not work.  Is this remediable, or am I simply stuck buying a

As indicated in the header question, I've been unable to get PS CS3 to run (other than in "trial period" mode) on my new laptop. I purchased CS3 a few years ago and had it up and running on my former (now deceased) machine; I still had the activation key. I installed the program on my new machine (running Windows 7.1), seemingly uneventfully. But when I now enter the activation key, I get an error message informing me that the number is not valid.
Does the activation key become invalid after a certain time period, or is there something I can fix? I'm interested in upgrading, but would like to have the familiar version available until I get around to doing so (just retired; lots of time-consuming changes afoot).
    Thanks for any help/info.

  • Windows 7 64-bit activation key.

I was running Windows 7 Home Premium until 1 day I booted up and the laptop failed to boot. 'No bootable media found' (Or something like)
So I put in a new hard drive, re-imaged with my backup from an external USB drive, and now we are back in business.  Except that Windows 7 is not activated and when I try to activate I get ' The Windows 7 Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for activation'
Well, I didn't type the product key, it is the one that was on the pre-installed Windows when I bought the laptop.
    And the options available are:
    Buy a new key
    Use a different key
    Contact Lenovo
Contacting Lenovo doesn't seem to be an option without a paid for support contract which doesn't seem either fair or reasonable to me.
Is it possible to get new restore discs from Lenovo? With or without a key?
    Cheers

Just to add to this, I ran into a problem as well with a re-installation of Windows 7 64bit not working. My backup partition became corrupt, so I was told to download a copy of Windows from DigitalRiver and activate it with the serial number on the back of my computer.
I entered the serial number during installation and it worked fine, but when it finished installing and it came time to actually activate the copy, I got a message stating it was invalid. I even tried the phone activation and that didn't work.
Upon close inspection, I noticed the activation code listed in Windows was not the one I had originally entered, it was some other one with the letters "OEM" in it. So I re-entered my Windows activation code that was on the back of my computer, and it activated fine.
I'm not sure why it changed to some other OEM activation code, but just be aware you may need to re-enter the one on your computer.

  • Where do I find my OEM Lenovo Yoga IdeaPad 13 Windows 8 activation key?

Hello, a couple of days ago, I received my Lenovo Yoga Ideapad 13 in the mail. I turned it on and soon noticed that Lenovo had really screwed the pooch on how they partitioned the device. The SSD was 128GB but only 60GB was given to the C drive. The rest was either on the D drive or in some hidden partition.
I almost immediately proceeded to do a clean install of Windows 8.
I procured an ISO of Windows 8 and ran through the install process. For this post, I'm going ot ignore some of the issues I ran into in this process (wifi not working by default) and cut right to my current problem: I cannot legally activate Windows 8 unless I have a valid activation key. Where is this key found?
The "About Windows 8" post on this very board says that it should be found somewhere on my laptop, but I couldn't find it. I even played with the idea of opening up the ultrabook to see if it was on the inside. I decided to hold off on this until I can get a professional tear-down guide from iFixIt or something.
In the meantime, where do I find my key?

It is either on a sticker somewhere on the laptop Usually on the bottom side of the laptop. Or it is attached to a card in the documents that came with laptop. My Toshiba laptop shipped with its Windows 7 code in both places. There was a sticker attached to the bottom of the laptop and there was another Genuine Windows Card that was mixed in with all the manuals that also contained the number. I would look there as well.

  • Windows Activation MAK Key Windows 7

Trying to make my windows seven workstations upon first boot activate automaticaly, In the answer file it's set to skip auto activation "false" But they never activate unless it's done in VMAT or at the workstation. Any way to have the stations activate without having to touch them or use VMAT? A regkey or some thing I can have run at first logon?

    Hi Tech,
When you install Windows with a Volume License Multiple Activation Key (MAK), you can specify with the ProductKey setting in the Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup component in the answer file to automate the activation process.

The following XML output shows how to set user data.

  • Where is my Windows 8 activation key?

Just bought an Acer M5-481pt. There is no activation key sticker on the laptop nor anywhere else. How do I get the key?

It is built into the computers UEFI.  There are no 'CoA' stickers on any Windows 8 computer as it is all stored inside of the computer.

Glad to hear you had the forethought to write down the registration key.  Personally I keep a separate listing of all my keys for my various computers as it can come in handy at times.
Yes, you can use the key to tell you which version of Windows 7 you have,  Check out my link below to the free PIDX utility. Most likely you had Windows 7 Home Premium x64 which was the usual version installed on your model.

  • How to retrieve original Microsoft Office activation key after restoring Windows 7?

I had a operating system self-distruct and could not do anything to get past the BSOD.  Using a recovery CD, I was able to access OneKey Restore which restored WIndows 7.  With my original notebook purchase I purchased Office 2010 and had a valid activation key - and have used Office since that time.  Now that I have restored the OS, I don't know how to find the key again so Office won't run. Any ideas on what to do? Thanks.

  • How can I get Apple to give me an activation key for QT Pro that works?

Stopping at the Genius Bar last night, they suggested I upgrade my QT Viewer to Pro so I could move some of my digital video over to my iPone. I followed the purchase/download instructions and after putting in the activation code, I was NOT redirected to the page to activate the Pro version. I did the usual of retyping ny name, the key and even installed QT Viewer again, all to no avail.
I caled Apple support this morning and was told to call QT support and have them make my key recognizable. The only problem is the number she gave me for QT support says there is no QT phone support, only web information on frequently asked questions and this forum. I sort of feel like I am going in a circle.
So if anyone has the magical answer on how I can get Apple to give me an activation key that actually works without being able to speak or email a human support person, I would very much appreciate it.
    Thank you.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    Kirk,
Thanks again for your suggestions. No, I don't get an
error message. In fact nothing happens. My name and
key are typed in and from what I understand, once you
do that with a real key it directs you to the
registration page. When I get done entering the
information the window just sits there without any
    button or option to continue.
QT Pro is already in the QT (non-pro) you installed and the key (which is a hash of your name in part) allows the Pro features to work.
No redirect, internet, nothing like that. As such many people have activated and think they haven't. Just look at the menu items and see if the "Pro" logo is shown next to a few (which are greyed out and not available without Pro). If not you are done.

    Gary
For a KMShost with the OS=WS2012R2, you cannot, and, there is no need to, install any other Windows KMShost keys. The WS2012R2 KMShost key, by itself, will activate the KMShost OS, and will also enable the issuing of activations for ALL Windows KMSclients.
Office KMS features are different, and do need to be installed for Office KMSclient activations.
The error you are experiencing is expected, and is a result of your attempt to perform an unnecessary configuration step.
