Windows 7 alt tab through a selection of open programs

I wonder if it is possible to natively or with some hack to make <kbd>Alt</kbd>+<kbd>Tab</kbd> only cycle through a sub-set of the currently active programs? In other words, I have 15 windows/programs open and wish to cycle through
say photoshop, illustrator and sublime text.

Well, the touch problem was first observed with Firefox Version 21. The Versions 21 to 23 offers the workaround with opening and closing a new tab. Since Version 24 also the workaround didn't work anymore and the problem, that the multitouch gestures zooms the hole browser window is still present. Maybe this makes it clear for now. So would be helpful if anybody could give me a real hint how to overcome these problem.

Tabbing Through Form Selections

When making a form, I select radio buttons to force a user to select 1 choice. When tabbing through the selections, often my tab goes to the first choice and no more, but sometimes my tab goes works through the choices. The actual selection is correct, it is an either or, but the tabbing is what bothers me, I want it to work one way or the other - tab through all selections or tab one and move to the next in line in the form. (I even copy/pasted another radio button that was working like most of the others on the form and renamed it to what I wanted but that still did not fix the issue.) Any ideas?

Are you really still running Firefox 3.6? Since it hasn't received any security updates for nine months, you may be putting yourself at risk.
In my experience, tabbing through forms works just fine. Have you tested in Firefox's Safe Mode to see whether the problem is caused by a custom setting or add-on.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode] by holding the Shift key when you double-click the program icon.
In the Safe Mode dialog, do not check any boxes, just click "Continue in Safe Mode."
If tabbing works correctly, this points to an add-on or custom setting as the most likely cause of the problem.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

Disable Window keys ALT+TAB, CTRL+ALT+DEL

Hello i am developing an application in which i need to catch the ALT+TAB and CTRLALT+DEL key events and handle it in my own way.
The default action of showing the next window or the task manager should not take place.
In the event handler i have given
eventName.consume();
also.But the default handling is also done.
How do i stop the default action from being done?

Windows will not allow any application to catch the CTRL+ALT+DEL keystroke. In Windows NT-kernel OSes, this keystroke brings up a menu which, among other things, allows the user to change his or her password. If an application could intercept CTRL+ALT+DEL, it could present itself in such a way as to look just like that dialog. Then, if a user typed his or her password into that dialog, the program could log or transmit that password plaintext, severely violating security.
All sorts of exploits like that would be possible. This is why you can't block system keystrokes.
Is there any particular reason you need to override this behavior? Perhaps we can help you find another solution to whatever problem made you decide you wanted to catch those keystrokes in the first place.

Acrobat X behavior with Windows 7 ALT-Tab

When I do an ALT-Tab in Windows 7, all of the Adobe Acrobat X open PDF files show up as icons (aero view is turned off). How can I change Adobe so that only one icon is shown, no matter how many files I have open in Adobe Acrobat X.

Over in the Premiere Pro forum where I spend more time (use that more than the Acrobat that came with Master Collection) there are a few messages a year from people who want to use PPro with networked files, or run from a network instead of a standalone computer... and the answer has always been that the program is simply not designed to be used in that fashion... so it doesn't work
It would appear that Acrobat is also designed to run on a standalone computer, with local hard drive(s) and doing anything else just won't work
I don't remember the name of the (software-hardware?) but there was one message by someone using a specific type of network that allowed them to "spoof" the local computer into thinking that the network drive was actually a local drive hardwired to the computer... and that did work for file saving

Firefox hangs when maximising FF windows or ALT+TAB cycling

Hello. Im having bad performance issues since upgrading to 3.6.3 which I've never experienced before. I appreciate you cannot help me due to extremely poor detail on my behalf. I thought it worth asking for possible remedy in the hope that its a problem experienced by many.
The problem is more likely to occur when many Firefox windows & tabs are open and other memory hungry packages ie GTA Libery City are using all available memory resource.
Firefox will either not respond ( wont maximise window ) or the Firefox window appears, navigation icons are visible but remainder of page is blank/white. The symptons are very similar to any package running in windows thats forced to wait whilst windows pages memory.
As I can never guarantee to reproduce, I cannot say for certain what events are likely to trigger.
I have noticed that more tabs/windows open the greater the probability of a problem and im fairly certain any webpage running java increases probability of a problem. This isnt caused by insufficient hardware resources because other packages ie uTorrent respond without problem in a split second.
I can wait from 10 seconds to 2 minutes before FF begins to respond. Sometimes I have to close FF totally.
I've read FAQs http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+hangs#Hang_loading_every_window and well the FF open a long time to shutdown/restart and hmm it could be said power cycling pc or restarting FF is a solution, but those kind of solutions faded away with Windows98.
I dont plan to start changing task priorities or setting CPU affinity etc as a permanent solution.
Im thinking solutions available are:
Reload an older version of FF.
But before I do, I thought I would post and see if its a problem due to be fixed or if you think the problem is worth a deeper look and wish me to provide more data.
I apologise for reporting a problem in such a vague manner but Im struggling to find any facts that I believe are relevant and usefull to you. I susoect you will be unable to help..

Setting is open new windows in new tab. How/can I open new link in a new tab automatically.

When I go to open a link within a tab, it overrides what is there and opens.
I would lik the option of opening a link from within a tab or the menu bar, into a new tab.
I cant find that option, the only one being opening a new windows in a new tab

You can middle-click a link or the Go button on the location bar to open the link in a new tab.<br />
You can also use Alt + Enter to open a link in the location bar in a new tab.

FF7 will not open new tab with new window. overwrites same tab. If I manually open a new tab, then the new window appears there. In previous versions, the new window would automatically open a new tab. This tab 'overwriting' ia very annoying.

By accident, after nearly an hour of playing with FF7, I discovered that by pushing down (like a button) on the scroll wheel or holding down CTRL key will open a new tab to the right of existing tabs when selecting a bookmarked site or link within a webpage.

How do i tab through all open documents

Alt + Tab on a windows machine will tab through all open windows and documents. Command + Tab on my IMAC will only tab through the open applications. Is there a way I can set up the IMAC to work like to windows machine in this case?

four finger swipe upwards will show you everything thats open. its not the same as on a pc where it shows each program in a rotating type of display... but it does show each program and the windows within that program that are open.

GNOME 3 : "drag-and-drop" + "Alt-Tab" not working

In GNOME 3.2.1 with Mutter 3.2.1 (current ones in Arch), it is supossedly fixed the following "bug":
Mutter 3.2.1 changelog:
* Allow keyboard window switching (alt-Tab) during drag-and-drop [Matthias, #660457]
But I can't make it working.
As test, I open a folder (maximized) and vlc (background). I drag a movie file with left click mouse and pressing Alt-Tab makes nothing.
In fact, when I press Alt the file icon changes to a question mark "?"...
Has anyone been able to make it work?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Problem with alt+tab

On kdemod-legacy & kdemod-unstable alt+tab doesn't work since the upgrade to the new xorg server, i fixed the cursor keys problem now i can toggle only between 2 windows with alt+tab (and it doesn't show the windowlist)

That's more like a porblem with kwin, not xorg - check the settings there first.

Different icon for Frame's title bar and alt tab

I have been using Frame.setIconImage to supply the image icon for the title bar and (on Windows, the <alt><tab> image). The trouble is there is only one image for both but one is usually small 16x16 and the other is usually large 32x32. What I have been doing is creating an image that is 32x32 but scales back to 16x16 and still looks good.
The trouble is it is tricky to create graphics like that. I wondered is there a way to specify one image for the title bar and another image for the <alt><tab> image?

separately is not possible?Sorry- you can't do it. Windows apps can do this easily because they use a .ico that can contain both the 16x16 and 32x32.
There are a couple of hacks I tried once, trying to swap icons based on events, but they are horrible hacks and don't work well enough to use. Your choices are as follows:
1. Use a 16x16 .gif as your icon and have it look good in the upper left hand corner of your frame but horrible during alt-tab,
or
2. Use a 32x32 .gif and have it look poorly in the upper left hand corner of your frame but good during most other times.
I'd choose #1.
(The reason behind all of this is Java does a much worse job of resizing your icon than you could do yourself with a little work in Paint Shop Pro.)

I am looking for a way to make my PDF Xcelsius 2008 Dashboards 508 compliant by using the keyboard to be able to tab through and select fields. Is this possible and, if so, how? Also, how would I select the tab order of the input fields? Thank you.

Ah! Huge mistake on my part. I got excited at seeing my problem that I missed the "PDF" part of the original description (ours is a swf file posted online) and it seems our company upgraded to Dashboard Design 6.0.0.0 without my awareness.

XFCE4 alt+tab very slow

Hi,
after the update to the input-hotplugging X-server switching windows by alt+tab became very slow, with a delay of 1 to 2 seconds even before displaying available windows. When switching windows by clicking in the windows bar it is nearly as fast as before the update. How can i find out where the problem is?

After Effects ends a render when I alt tab to Premiere

If I have a render in progress and I alt tab or to premiere or open premiere/media encoder, the render in after effects wit hthe "happy ring of success" noise. but the file is incoplete and the render has stopped part way done.

Well, what kind of workflow do you use? What footage? What settings? Sounds like you use DynamicLink in some fashion and there is a conflict with concurrent access of the same process...
