Windows 7 and 8 are sorting Arabic Characters wrong

The Arabic character A is comming on many differient shapes
A without hamza
A with hamza on top
A with hamza under
A with hamza on waw
A with hamza on nabra
A with hamza on alef mqsoora
A With madda
But all of them are considered as "A" and always on top of the sort on windows XP
Lately - on windows 7 and 8 the sort is not right -
hamza on waw is considered as waw
hamza on nabra is considered as yaa
So, names like Loay   and    We-aam are  sorted badely
I have more than one million names to be sorted
The following is win Xp correct sort
لؤي
لئي
لبي
ليي
The following is win7 and 8 wrong sort
لبي
لؤي
ليي
لئي
Both sort are done on excell 2007
Is there a solution

Many thanks for your comment
Sory I thought this is for project application
This sort problem I noticed during developping a VB project.
This project is for more than 1,000,000 votes.
On win7 and 8, when Listbox.sort property equals SORT  then sort problem appears
On win Xp, when Listbox.sort property equals SORT sorting is ok
Is (VB project) a (project application)
Should I move it or keep it here?

I have a 2008 Mac Book Pro partitioned running windows and are running out of drive space. Can I upgrade hard drive for more capacity? I purchased a faster drive initially, but has 200 GB capacity. I am running out of room and would like to upgrade for more space if possible.
    Can anyone suggest an alternative?

You don't need to partition your drive to run Fusion, only if you want to run Bootcamp.
If you have space on your Windows partition, I would suggest you backup your Windows partition, and then, delete the partition using Disk Utility.
You can now restore your virtual machine to a single volume or repartition if you prefer.
I would consider upgrading to a unibody MBP (used, refurbished will do) just to be able to access the HD. Opening the pre-unibody MBP is not something you would want to do.

  • My songs/albums/artists are sorted under the wrong letter on my ipod - how do I fix this?

After upgrading to iOS5, my music is sorted under the incorrect letter during song/album/artist browsing. I tried deleting all my music from itunes/my ipod and reloading it, but it's still wrong. Any ideas how I can fix this issue?

hey i had the same problem but mine didnt fix after the sync
but if you get this problem again just highlight the track then go to file and select get info after that go to the sorting tab and fill in the info and that should be how they appear for example if the songs name is numb and in the sorting field you put numb aswell thats how it will be shown or if you type in corpses it will show up in the c's

  • Received .PDF files which when opened are in "Western European Windows" and are just gibberish. I have adobe 10.0.01 installed now. Can you help please in how to correct this Thanks

I received three files in Microsoft Outlook in a PDF format. When I clicked on open I got a window showing "Opening Mail Attchment" and only open from "trusted" sources. After opening it displayed a window for File conversion with Windows as the default with Western European( Windows) as I assume the font. The file was shown but had essentially meaningless characters and numbers with maybe the occasional meaningful word. There seems no way to understand why this happened or to correct it. Can you help please

  • Files from Windows 7 are not alphabetized correctly on OS X, and can match identically named files in the same folder

I receive MS Word files from students using Macs or Windows-based computers.  This year, files prepared by students using Windows 7 are not alphabetized correctly on my Mac (under Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion).  The same four students keep having their files put at the END of the alphabetical sort by name, even though the files should appear earlier in the list.  I have to copy the file contents and paste the contents into a new document to get the new document to appear in the right order, and if I do so, then BOTH the old and new files appear in the Finder, even though the names appear to be identical!  So can have to files with the same name in the same folder, which ought to be impossible.  Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

    Bingo!
The problem is not the letters themselves, but non-letter characters in the file name; this showed up with the fixed-width fonts. The apparent duplicates and mis-sorting are caused by dashes, which differ because they're done as en-dashes in one file name and em-dashes in the other file name, or by curly or straight apostrophes.  I didn't see that in the Finder window.
I never saw this behavior before this year.  Last year, when I was using a Mac for the first time, I did not see any such problem, even though my students' files were named using the same conventions. When I was using a Windows-based laptop before that, I never saw the problem.
Windows must do something to style the non-letter characters differently than a Mac.  Is there any place in Windows Explorer or the OS X Finder that styles characters this way?  I can see this being a big problem for someone who needs to sort very important data by name, when the files are coming from different operating systems!
(I just Googled en-dash, em-dash, and curly quotes with file names, and found a good number of posts on various sites about similar problems based on ASCI character coding, html coding, Windows Explorer, and other applications.  Sometimes the files don't appear at all, because the application reading the file name can't deal with a certain ASCI code.  What a mess.)

  • Data Integrator: Arabic characters are not correctly displayed

    Hi,
I'm trying to load Arabic text via an UTF8 flat file into an Oracle database.
I've read several topics and set the correct code page settings (also during install) for the datastore and flat file.
Already in flat file preview (see attached screenshot), the wrong characters are displayed. The characters as they are displayed, are inserted in the database. So I think that if I get the flat file preview correctly, the text is inserted correctly into the database.
On the other hand: When i copy the contents of the flat file, via a bodi job, to another flat file, the target flat file does contain the correct characters (when opened in a utf8 file reader).
I tried several solutions and also went through the Code Page help topic on the BODI site.
Does anyone know a solution to my problem or know this is a BODI bug or something?
I'm using Designer version 11.5.3.9 (I went through fix notes of versions after 11.5.3.9, but saw nothing mentioned about my problem). The Oracle database does support arabic characters as I can insert them via e.g. SQL Developer.
    Thanks a lot in advance!

Hé Amr, thanks a lot! This sounds good.
I indeed saw a kind of this solution somewhere else. What I did not is restarting the computer, since it is a shared server. Maybe that was why it didn't solve my problem.
Before I restart an additional question: I need to convert some files with Turkish characters as well.
Have you got a value which I can put in NLS_LANG, which supports these characters and Arabic characters both at the same time?

I am trying to print arabic characters in report output but junk characters are getting displayed in output.
Using 10g report builder, added the arabic labels in report layout.
    Followed below steps:
    1. Set NLS_LANG=ARABIC_United Arab Emirates.AR8MSWIN1256
2.Set REPORTS_PATH to the system font directoy such as C:\SYSROOT\Fonts
    3.transferred the arialbd.ttf to $ORACLE_HOME/guicommon/tk/admin/AFM
    4.Open uifont.ali under$ORACLE_HOME/guicommon/tk/admin, set the font alias
    entries at [PDF:Subset] section.
    [PDF:Subset]
    Arial...Bold.. = "arialbd.ttf"
    5. open datap462.ppd under $ORACLE_HOME/guicommon/tk/admin/ppd, set the font information like

After having all these steps, still my report output is coming with junk characters.
Please help me on this and this is very urgent requirement for me and i am trying on this since 3 days.
    Thanks,

    Hello,
Try to set the Font Subsetting like below in the file uifont.ali
    [PDF:Subset]
    * = "arialbd.ttf"
If it works after this modification, the problem will be related to the Font Aliasing

  • Arabic characters are displaying as question marks in forms 10g

We have migrated our application from forms 6i to forms 10g and now in forms 10g the arabic characters are displaying as question marks while it displays correctly in the old application using forms 6i. I have already set the character set to AR8MSWIN1256 in the registry, but it didn't help. Somebody please help.

@ Sarah, Al-Salamu Alikum We Rahmatu Allah we Barakatu,
Sarah Habibty, why new installation ? In order to select a new suitable character set !!!
Then creating a new instance from the db is a better alternative since it saves time, effort and another back up of his current db is exist safely if needed for any purposes in the future.
    @Amer,honestly speaking...
    Modifing ur NLS_LANG to > AMERICAN_AMERICA.AR8MSWIN1256
Works for me in both Arabic and English data in 2 applications. This works in my pc.But it didn't works at my boss pc this can happened don't have any reason for that.!!!!
i spent lot's of time trying to search but what i had got is that solution i suggested by a friend of mine.
Now please could you advise me, is it better to create a new instance of database as Amatu Allah has suggested or is it better to change the character set through sql as some others have suggested? Again i suggest to select the short cut way ; to reset the character set through sql after taking a back up from ur data that is currently exist.
then retest again doing the select and test ur data input and retrieval.
    SQL> select * from v$nls_parameters
2 where parameter in ('NLS_CHARACTERSET','NLS_LANGUAGE');watching the output if it works that's fine saving ur time & effort .
if not working with the correct NLS_CHARACTERSET then use my previous solution.
    Hope this helps...

    Amatu Allah

  • What are valid and invalid email address characters

What are valid and invalid email address characters in Exchange 2010, for example can you have Conan.O'[email protected] is there a document that shows the valid and invalid sysmbols?

    Hi
The format of email addresses is
local-part@domain where the local-part may be up to 64 characters long and the
    domain name may have a
maximum of 253 characters - but the maximum 256 characters length of a forward or reverse path restricts the entire email address to be no more than 254 characters.[1]
The formal definitions are in RFC 5322 (sections 3.2.3
and 3.4.1) and RFC 5321 - with a more readable form given in
    the informational RFC 3696[2]
    and the associated errata.
    Local part
The local-part of the email address may use any of these
    ASCII characters
    RFC 5322 Section
    3.2.3:
Uppercase and lowercase English letters (a–z, A–Z) (ASCII: 65-90, 97-122)
    Digits
    0 to
    9 (ASCII: 48-57)
    Characters
    !#$%&'*+-/=?^_`{|}~ (ASCII: 33, 35-39, 42, 43, 45, 47, 61, 63, 94-96, 123-126)
    Character
. (dot, period, full stop) (ASCII: 46) provided that it is not the first or last character, and
provided also that it does not appear two or more times consecutively (e.g. [email protected] is not allowed.).
Special characters are allowed with restrictions. They are:
    o
    Space and
    "(),:;<>@[\] (ASCII: 32, 34, 40, 41, 44, 58, 59, 60, 62, 64, 91-93)
The restrictions for special characters are that they must only be used when contained between quotation marks, and that 3 of them (The
    space, backslash \ and
quotation mark " (ASCII: 32, 92, 34)) must also be preceded by a backslash
    \ (e.g.
A quoted string may exist as a dot separated entity within the local-part, or it may exist when the outermost quotes are the outermost characters of the local-part
    (e.g. abc."defghi"[email protected] or
    "abcdefghixyz"@example.com are allowed. Conversely,
abc"defghi"[email protected] is not; neither is
abc\"def\"[email protected]). Quoted strings and characters however, are not commonly used.
    RFC 5321 also
warns that "a host that expects to receive mail SHOULD avoid defining mailboxes where the Local-part requires (or uses) the Quoted-string form".
The local-part "postmaster" is treated specially - it is case-insensitive, and should be forwarded to the server's administrator. Technically all other local-parts
are case sensitive, therefore [email protected] and [email protected] specify different mailboxes. However most organizations treat uppercase and lowercase letters as equivalent, and also do not allow use of the technically valid characters
(space, ? and ^). Organizations are free to restrict the forms of their own email addresses as desired, e.g.,
    Windows Live Hotmail,
for example, only allows creation of email addresses using alphanumerics, dot (.), underscore (_)
    and hyphen (-).[3]
Systems that send mail must be capable of handling outgoing mail for all valid addresses. Contrary to the relevant standards, some defective systems treat certain
legitimate addresses as invalid and fail to handle mail to these addresses. Hotmail, for example, refuses to send mail to any address containing any of the following standards-permissible characters:
    !#$%*/?^`{|}~
    Domain part
The domain name part of an email address has to conform to strict guidelines: it must match the requirements for a
    hostname,
consisting of letters, digits, hyphens and dots. In addition, the domain part may be an
    IP address
literal, surrounded by square braces, such as jsmith@[192.168.2.1], although this is rarely seen except
    in email spam.
    Examples
    Valid email addresses
    <tt>[email protected]</tt>
    <tt>[email protected]</tt>
    <tt>[email protected]</tt>
    <tt>much."more\ unusual"@example.com</tt>
    <tt>very.unusual."@"[email protected]</tt>
    <tt>very."(),:;<>[]".VERY."very@\\\ \"very"[email protected]</tt>
    Invalid email addresses
<tt>Abc.example.com</tt> (an @ character must separate the local and domain parts)
<tt>[email protected]</tt> (character dot(.) is last in local part)
<tt>[email protected]</tt> (character dot(.) is double)
<tt>A@b@[email protected]</tt> (only one @ is allowed outside quotation marks)
<tt>a"b(c)d,e:f;g<h>i[j\k][email protected]</tt> (none of the special characters in this local part
    is allowed outside quotation marks)
<tt>just"not"[email protected]</tt> (quoted strings must be dot separated, or the only element making
    up the local-part)
<tt>this is"not\[email protected]</tt> (spaces, quotes, and backslashes may only exist when within
quoted strings and preceded by a slash)
<tt>this\ still\"not\\[email protected]</tt> (even if escaped (preceded by a backslash), spaces, quotes,
and backslashes must still be contained by quotes)

  • Appears in Arabic characters when you are tying to type in English?

what to do when you type as usual in a Word doc or in Facebook and it appears in Arabic characters when you are tying to type in English?

Check in 'Languages' in International (system preference panels) to see if the default language of choice has somehow changed to another one.
Usually you can change this while in an Admin account, since its effect may be system-wide.
    Hopefully this helps.
    Good luck & happy computing!

Firefox keeps opening tabs whether I am on-line or not. These are often games pages, but not always. I have reset several times and there are no pipe characters in the home page address. This is not the first time this has happened. The first time was a couple of months ago and a reset cured the problem, but this time it does not. How can I stop this occurring?

'''''If this can happen with Firefox completely closed:'''''
Some malware simply launches pages in your default browser from outside Firefox. Definitely scan for malware using some of the tools listed in our support article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
There might be an additional step:
Last year, many users reported advertising tabs opening randomly, sometimes even when Firefox was closed. It turned out that a program had created scheduled tasks to open those pages at certain times of day.
You can check the Windows Task Scheduler:
    * Windows XP: Start button > [All] Programs > Accessories> System Tools > Scheduled Tasks
    * Windows Vista/7: Start button > Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Task Scheduler
    * Windows 8: ?? You might try the charms bar search box if you don't find it in the control panel.

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Wrong folder and report sorting

We installed BO XI R2 SP4. Folder and report sorting is incorrect. How to fix that?

    Hi Wallie,
we just started our mirgation from 6.5 to XI
so BO XI SP4 on .NET is our first XI installation.
Sort order is incorrect for both folders and objects
and for both asc and desc orders.
Most of folders/objects are sorted correctly but several of them are out of order.
    Examples:
    __ASC order__                            DESC order
    Class                                        User
    Customer                                  Report Samples
    Data                                         Report Conversion
    Document                                 Feature
    Accident                                   Admin
    Admin                                       Accident
    Feature                                     Document
    Report Conversion                      Data
    Report Samples                         Customer
    User                                         Class
I believe it gives the picture.
