Windows 7 and Apple TV compatability???

I am having problems syncing my iTunes with AppleTV. For some reason it will begin the sync and 30 seconds to a minute later will disappear from the device lists. I was told from outside help it may be a sharing problem with windows 7 but have nothing to go on to show that as a problem. Any ideas?

Problem Solved!!!
I was having the exact symptoms stated at the beginning of this thread. After installing Windows 7 from Vista, Apple TV would show up in the device list and right after entering the verification code it would dissappear and wouldn't show up until I restarted Itunes. I did some research and found that if Apple TV doesn't have a solid connection it basically times out which explains the temporary appereance in the device list followed by it's mysterious dissappearance. At first I thought it might be something with the latest upgrade to Itunes so I started a download of Version 7 to see if that would work. I noticed that my download was only going at around 25k/sec and that was way, way to slow. As it turns out, when upgrading from Vista to 7, Windows 7 erases all of your drivers for things like video cards, network adapters, ect and does a clean install. I took my restore cd from vista and installed the missing driver for my Wireless LAN Adapter. My downloads went up to around 300kb/sec and viola!! Itunes synced up and is working great. It also works through a VPN and with Windows Firewall on as well as a 3rd party service. So if you upgraded to windows 7 take your old restore cd and updated all your network drivers. If you don't have the cd then get them online. This worked for me and I hope if works for everyone else having trouble. If anybody wants detailed instructions just let me know.

  • Windows 8 and Apple product compatibility

    Good Morning,
The other day, I went to purchase a new Windows-based computer at a non-Apple retail store.  I would purchase a Macbook, but budget limitations.  When I asked what Windows computer would be best for basic usage (managing IPOD, managing IPADs, managing music, and basic computing), I was told that Windows 8 is not compatible with Apple products.  The retail personnel said that he had numerous returns of products because their Iproducts were not syncing (in fact he returned his computer).  I have researched the communities and found that there are numerous solutions and reasons for the problem, but the variation in the answers leads me to think that the core issue has not been addressed.
    Question:
    1.  Has the compatibility issues between Windows 8 and Iproducts been corrected?  If not, is there any news of the compatibility being addressed in a future release?
    2.  What is the exact problem and how can it be corrected if I do purchase a new Windows computer?
    Thanks,
    Brian

  • When will Windows 7 and IE 8 compatability roll out?

If you look at this thread 'Xcelsius 2008 Fix Pack 3.1 (FP3.1) is now available'  there is a "upcoming major Xcelsius release" mentioned but no dates or timelines.  When is this going to happen and will Windows 7 compatability be part of that release?  I have customers right now that want to know, if they integrate some Xelcius dashboards into our web application, will this work in Windows 7 and IE 8.
I also noticed the expiration notice on 2008 Engage Server going away.  I have Xcelsius 2008 Engage (not the server version).  What is the estimated life cycle on it in light of the Server version going away next year.
P.S. I am aware of the XP compatability mode in Windows 7 but I have a hard time believing SAP would consider that a permanent solution.

    Hi Matt,
I understand you can't give any detailed timelines yet, as I can only assume you guys are still early in the development cycle for some of the fixes and updates required for Windows 7 and IE 8 compatibility.  My problem is I have customers that want a reporting solution integrated into the web application my company provides as a product.  We want to sell them on the idea of buying Xcelsius licenses and developing their own metrics reports that would seamlessly integrate with our application and we provide an API for them to do that right now.  It becomes a pretty tough sell when they ask about Windows 7 and IE 8 compatibility and I can't really tell them anything definitive other then  "I think SAP is working on that?".  Its not like were talking about an obscure OS and browser, this is Microsoft after all and its my understanding they have a bit of a following    .  I would, at the very least, like to be able to confidently tell my customers that SAP is commited to making sure Xcelsius 2008 Engage (or what ever the next version name is ) will be fully compatible with Windows 7 and IE 8 and that the long term plan is the end of this year? middle of next year? some other non-ridiculous time frame so I can assure them its not a waste of time waiting for this product to be updated?
You mentioned any SWF files we create (at least it was implied) should run as long as Flash Player 9 or later is installed? Is that truly the case? The reason I ask is the Adobe web site says the Flash Player 10 is compatible with both Windows 7 and IE8.  Is the only issue driving this compatability problem the version of the Flash Player installed, or are there still some pieces of Xcelsius that need to be rewritten to accomodate Windows 7 and IE8 regardless of what version of Flash Player is resident?  Bottom line is what can I tell my customers to reassure them this is the correct path forward for their reporting needs?
    Thanks,
    Matt

  • Compatibility between windows 8 and apple networks?

    Hi,
I have a apple network set up at my parent's house that has worked marvelously for the past years. THe network has a time capsule and two airport express. Unfortunately not everyone at my house is an apple user, and my stepdad just got a new HP laptop with Windows 8 and it doesn't seem to be connecting properly to the wifi network.
ANy idea why this is? is it a problem with the firmware? windows 8? the airports? the time capsule?
    Thanks!

Windows does not handle the names that apple tends to default to.. so make sure all names are..
    short.. 10-20 characters
no spaces.. they are not valid in windows networking
pure alphanumeric.. the apple default is to use apostrophe.. not at all liked by windows.
That unfortunately means a full reset of the whole system if it is non-compliant.
A different solution is to simply buy a cheap wireless router.. say TP-Link WDR3600, which is about $80 here.. and probably cheaper in US.. or even cheaper model, like 1043ND.. which is about $50 and run it as AP only plugged into the TC by ethernet.

  • Windows 8 and itunes 11 compatibility with an ipod

I have itunes11 and Windows 8. I've called Apple and I've talked to Microsoft. This was months ago. I can download itunes and run it from my laptop but am unable to sync my ipod. I get an error and it automatically reboots my computer. I was told there were known compatibility with itunes and Windows 8.  This was months ago.
I know how to downgrade itunes to XP or Win 7. This is not the issue. I can download to my laptop and place, it will not sync to my ipod device (which is a fear years old), but when I did talk to support I was told that it was supported. The ipod was not the issue.. It was the incompatibility between the programs.
I see recent updates in the support community in the past month about production resolution but this still has not resolved my issue. I don't believe purchasing a new ipod is going to resolve the issue either.
If anyone has successfully developed a workaround or recently downloaded itunes11 w/ Windows 8 and can sync to an apple ipod I would love to know how you did it.

Im not sure that will solve the issue I have with itunes. I have a lenovo laptop and I think it's just an issue with Apple who has to modify the program for users of Windows 8 so that itunes can be used and to find purchased music. I found the music I purchased through itunes but it's not the full tracks. It said it allows me to download it fully so I can hear the whole track, but needs some kind of capatibility? I have no idea what the problem is. If someone has the answer knowing my computer brand and having windows 8 compatibility issues, please let me know what you suggest.

can i connect my new ipod in my windows xp and download my songs then can i go to my new apple imac computer and connect my nano to that one as well and start downloading my songs i was told it will erase all my songs help!

The link Mitch posted explains how to use an iPod with more than one computer.
Now, because you use a Mac and your Mum uses Windows complicates matter slightly.
An iPod formatted for use on a Mac cannot be used on Windows without some additional software. This is because Windows is incapable or reading the file sytem that Macs use.
However, if you were to reformat the iPod on your Mum's Windows PC, then you could use it on both Mac and Windows computers.
    Clearer now?

*The relationship between iTunes for Windows and QuickTime for Windows*
Conceptually, you don't go too far wrong thinking of iTunes for Windows as a gigantic QuickTime for Windows plug-in. QuickTime for Windows provides the audio and video playback capabilities for iTunes for Windows, the codecs iTunes for Windows uses for importing and burning CDs, and so forth.
So, under normal circumstances, if you uninstall your QuickTime for Windows your iTunes for Windows will no longer launch. The exception is if you install a different application such as QuickTime Alternaltive, which also provides QuickTime playback capabilities. However, most such applications (QuickTime Alternative being a good example) are themselves built from actual QuickTime program files. So there's really no getting away from the requirement to have QuickTime for Windows componentry installed on your computer in order to get your iTunes for Windows to launch and run.
In addition to needing some QuickTime for Windows installed on the computer for iTunes for Windows, a given iTunes for Windows version will require *at mininum a particular version* of QuickTime for Windows to be installed on the computer in order for that iTunes for Windows version to run. For example, iTunes for Windows 5.0.0.35 requires at least a release version of QuickTime for Windows 7.0.2 to run correctly, iTunes for Windows 6.0.0.18 requires at least a QuickTime for Windows 7.0.3, and so on. The same applies for solutions involving other programs like QuickTime Alternative. An iTunes for Windows 6.0.0.18 would require an installed version of QuickTime Alternative to made from (at least) QuickTime for Windows 7.0.3 componentry in order for iTunes to run.
The most straightforward way to go about getting your iTunes for Windows launching again after you've uninstalled your QuickTime for Windows is simply to reinstall QuickTime for Windows. You can get the latest version of QuickTime for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 from the following download page at the Apple website. (Use the download link that doesn't mention iTunes.)
    [Latest QuickTime for Windows version|http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download>
*The relationship between iTunes and Apple Application Support*
iTunes for Windows uses a number of the same program files as other Apple software for Windows (most notably, QuickTime for Windows and Safari for Windows). Starting with iTunes for Windows version 9.0.0, QuickTime for Windows version 7.6.4, and Safari for Windows 4.0.4, program files common to more than one of the programs have been stored in a single location: "Apple Application Support".
So, if you uninstall your Apple Application Support (using the Add or Remove programs control panel in Windows XP, or using Programs and Features in Windows Vista or Windows 7), your iTunes for Windows 9.0.0 (or higher version) will no longer launch ... because several essential program files for iTunes for Windows 9.0.0 (or higher version) will have been uninstalled.
At the time of writing this user tip, Apple Application Support is not available as a "standalone" download from Apple. It is only available as part of the installer bundles for the most recent versions of iTunes for Windows, Safari for Windows and QuickTime for Windows. So if you have uninstalled your Apple Application Support and your iTunes for Windows 9.0.0 (or higher version) is no longer launching, the most straightforward way of getting your iTunes for Windows launching again is to uninstall your existing version of iTunes for Windows and reinstall the latest version of iTunes for Windows. (The iTunes reinstall should also reinstall your Apple Application Support.)
    [Latest iTunes for Windows version|http://www.apple.com/itunes/download>
If, however, you've uninstalled both your Apple Application Support and your QuickTime for Windows, the most straightforward way of getting them both reinstalled is to download the latest QuickTime for Windows installer from the Apple website. (Use the download link that doesn't mention iTunes.)

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Windows Users and Apple Products

Hi. I use both Mac and PC. I like them both. I have two iPhones and for reasons, will be using them with PCs. I think its cool that there is so much Apple technology that works with PCs like the iPhone, Mobile Me, Bonjour, iTunes, etc. In fact, if they ever made iWork and iLife for PC, I'd buy that too.
Question: Does anyone one know of a community, blog or website that focuses on PC/Windows users that like Apple technology? That would be very cool.
    Kindest.

Hmmm. For iPods and iPhones and iTunes, there's specific Windows information and forums at iLounge:

They go a bit beyond the general troubleshooting advice that gets offered here in the Windows-specific forums at Discussions.

  • Windows Vista and Apple TV

Anyone got an answer to why I cannot see Apple TV under Devices in my new recently installed 7.2 version of Itunes? In fact that catagory doesn't even show up. I'm running Vista Home Premium and I've tried everything in the Apple TV help section including messing with the msconfig settings they suggest. Nothing works. It works perfectly on my other laptop with XP but I''m skunked on this new HP laptop with Vista. No matter what I do I see no sign of it or Devices in the menu.

I really am not sure this has anything to do with the router; my Apple TV shows up fine on my router's (Belkin pre-N) DHCP devices list and works fine from my XP based laptop but not from my Vista desktop where I experience precisely the same issue as Dirk.
I CAN make it appear in the ITunes Devices list but only by going back to complete basics. If I ask the Apple TV to "Sync with new iTunes" (or whatever the menu item precisely says), wait for the passcode to show on the screen and stop all the iTunes related services and processes on Vista (iTunes Helper, iPod-something). If I then restart iTunes it will allow me to set up the ATV by entering the passcode. Apple TV then remains in the devices list for between 5 and 10 seconds and then disappears (I have read about this behaviour several times in this forum) and will not reappear unless I repeat the above process.
I reiterate, all ATV features work perfectly on the same network on an XP laptop. It doesn't matter if device firewalls are turned on or off.
I really, really, think Apple should appear on this forum and let us know their views on this as it is clear that for a significant minority this is presenting a major issue.

  • Windows 7 and Apple TV- can't stream video

    Hi:
I can't stream video from itunes on a Windows 7 pc, to Apple TV (3rd generation). The ATV is only a week old but has been replaced with no luck. When I try to stream video, an error message pops up: "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device Apple TV. The network connection timed out".
    - the ATV is not the issue as it was replaced
    - I can stream audio and photos from itunes, but can't stream video (which is in the proper format for ATV)
    - I installed itunes on an old xp machine and video streaming works!
    - both the xp machine and the Win 7 machine are on the same network, so the router must be ok
    - all firmware and software is up to date and everything has been rebooted (several times)
    - the error happens no matter if it is a wireless or wired connection
Since XP can successfully stream video and is on the same home network as Win 7 and we know that both the ATV and the router are working properly, it seems to me that there must be an issue in my Win 7 config. Does anyone have suggestions??? Thanks!

    This is what is happening:
With an iTunes playlists of about 13,000 songs, one song will start playing (with a huge lag before the cover art appears); when the first song is finished, a second will start with the cover art for the first song still on screen. Eventually the screen goes to black, the time bar for the seconf song will pop up and after a few beats the art for both and first AND second song appear on screen together. A moment later, the audio cuts out, the screen goes to black againand eventially the AppleTV homescreen pops up. I've tried the fixes I've read about on this board; restarting everything (AppleTV, MacBook, etc), closing and reopening Home Sharing on the all the devices, doing a restore on the Apple TV, etc. Everything worked fine until I installed the update.

  • Mac Mini (late 2012), Windows 8, and Apple EarPods.

    Hello there.
Recently, I have been trying to get my Apple EarPods with Remote and Mic to work with my bootcamp installation of windows 8.
when I plug the earpods into the audio out jack while using OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2) I can use them without trouble.
when I do the same thing in my Bootcamp installation of Windows 8, I can hear the audio just fine, but I can't use the remote portion of the Earpods, nor can I use the mic in the Earpods remote.
I would like to know if any drivers are necessary to use these earphones, or if they simple will not work with Windows 8 at all.
Many thanks in advance, and I hope to hear from you soon.

I don't think the mic and remote work with bootcamp.  You should submit feedback here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

  • Windows 8 and I tunes compatibility ?

Does I tunes work with the new windows 8 that was just released?

iTunes in Windows 8 Consumer Preview does work. If you experience any abnormal lag or behavior, you'll just need to enable compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and administrator privileges for iTunes.exe.
Default installation locations, where you'll find "iTunes.exe":
    32bit - C:\Program Files\iTunes
    64bit - C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
    Hope this helped!
