Windows 7 and Autocad Lt on New Core i7 Imac

Moving over from long time PC user to the Mac world.
I primarily use Autocad LT and will probably use it within Parallels Desktop when my Imac arrives. I only want to transfer my autocad programme from my old pc to the new imac, is there an option to select specific programmes only within the Parallel transfer, or will it take a full snap shot of my PC. Theres a lot of crap on there i really dont want to take over to the new machine.
Alternatively if I install a new copy of Windows 7 and Autocad within Bootcamp, do I have to resinstall Autocad when i run Parallel, or will it see it and run it correctly if I point Parallel in the direction of the Bootcamp drive. I will have to phone autodesk to activate my autocad anyway as I have used up my number of activations, will i have to activate a 2nd time when i run it in parallels ?
I'm trying to minimise my downtime when the new Imac arrives as i work from home and cant afford to be without it.

I am running on less of a machine than you are, so I have experienced similar problems, even when playing back 4 audio tracks while recording 2 all at once (usually with significant plug-ins on the 4 playback tracks).
The easiest solution I've found, without modifying how your plug-ins run, buying hardware, etc., is to "Freeze" the tracks that aren't being worked on at present. It "renders" all of what the plug-ins are doing so that the CPU and hard drive are not taxes nearly as much while playing back. It just takes a few seconds to render them once, and then your playback/recording drops the amount of resources it requires tremendously.
The easiest way to activate a freeze on a track is to right-click on the track name in the Arrange pane, select "Freeze" so the button that looks like a snowflake appears next to each track. You can click and drag down the contiguous tracks that can be frozen to turn the option on (or individually click to turn them on). You will then need to play the project to "render" the tracks and freeze them. Next time you play the project, it will run with many less resources and should save you from seeing that message.
As an aside, you may also want to make sure that you are not running any other applications. I found that another app in the background (Connect360) was running on my Mac and sharing my iTunes to my XBox 360, which was also making a good use of the hard drive at the same time. Any other applications running while Logic is running should be closed to ensure the best performance possible in your audio editing environment.

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.

It sounds unlikely of course. But from your question it's hard to tell what might have filled your HDD. Are you constantly on file sharing or has filled the drive with movies?
Best way to tell is to start checking what folders occupy space. "Get Info" for the HDD and its subfolders is a way to start checking where the data in question resides.
And as BGreg say, call Apple support is also a good way to begin with.

Having multiple tabs open in one window, and then opening a new window and closing it, will close the newly opened window, but it will want to close the other original window with the multiple tabs as well.

This only happens if the original window has multiple tabs, and the new window has only ONE tab at the moment you close it.
Also, the problem only occurs when TWO windows of firefox are open. So opening up a 3rd window, and then closing it, will not give you any problems. The interaction occurs between two windows of firefox only.

This can happen if you drag a tab slightly down in the browser window while clicking.
Firefox has a feature called tear-off tabs
You can detach a tab from the current window and open it in a new window by dragging a tab in the browser window.
You can also do this via the right-click context menu of a tab: Move to New Window
You can drag that tab back to the tab bar in the original window to undo that detaching.

Why does my iPad keeps connecting and disconnecting from the new late 2013 iMac

I've recently bought a new late 2013 iMac and ever since then I'm not able to connect my iPad 2 to it. When I do connect it keeps connecting and disconnecting again and again for some reason. The cable is fine and I've tried it with other devices. Just wondered why this is and whether you guys can help me out.

I had the same problem and just found a solution. I tryed restoring all content and settings on the iPad (Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings). It took lots of time, however it didn´t work because when I connected the iPad and iMac the problem persisted.
Then I thought it wasn´t an iPad problem but iMac OSX problem. So I searched the web for "Reinstall Mavericks" and found this http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13871?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US.
It also takes like 6 hours with my internet speed. Next day I connected the iPad and everything is just fine.
I described both processes because I don´t know if in the end the iPad reset helped in the solution.

I'm a dedicated Mac user who must on occasion use Windows at work.
Knowing that it's always best to make changes one step at a time, I'm looking for recommendations before embarking on a multi-step upgrade and migration:

Windows XP SP2
No Boot Camp Partition
GOALS:
Create a Boot Camp partition and migrate Windows to there
This will allow me to keep all my Windows files in one place and have access to them regardless of whether I boot into Windows natively via Boot Camp or via a virtual device using Parallels
Upgrade to XP to Windows 7 using Windows 7 Pro Upgrade for Vista

Hey -- was told then on the MS web site that this path would work...
Use iCloud to sync my Apple stuff with my Windows stuff (Calendar, Contacts)
I currently do this successfully via MobileMe and Outlook Exchange
However, iCloud requires that syncing with Windows requires Vista or newer (so gotta go to Windows 7, 'cuz ain't going Vista)
Migrate all my Windows applications and files without having to do clean installs
I know, clean installs are always better
However, IT support at work is always overloaded, so I choose this route for now
Also, I regularly use Super Duper to back-up (clone) my internal HD -- and have restored a number of times, always successfully -- so that necessary step is well covered.

I ended up deleting my WinXP partition and the upgrade to OSX 10.7 went fine.

I want new links to open in main window and not open a new browser or tab. What happened to the "open new links in..." option?

And when you right click on a link, the only options are "open link in new tab" or "open link in new window". I want to open the link in the same tab, I don't need 16 tabs opened at the same time.

I fixed this problem. It was pretty easy.
First, in the address bar, type in " about:config " .
When it asks if you are sure about making changes & it may void the warranty, click "yes--I promise I'll be careful" or something along those lines. (I heard there is no warranty, & it's just a joke)
Once you get to the new screen, find " browser.link.open_newwindow "
You will see the # 3 on the same line. Change that value to 1.

Why does my Extras window keeps asking me to reload the Firefox window and not uploading my new plug ins even after I've reloaded it already?

I have installed new versions of my plug ins and reloaded the Firefox page, but I noticed one of them wasn't working (the United States English Spellchecker 5.0.0) so I reinstalled it and rebooted the page once again. But it's not working and no matter how many times I reboot the page, it still asks me to do it. What can I do to solve this problem?
This is the first time it has happened.

This can happen if one of the files that stores details of installed extensions is corrupt. Try deleting those files as shown in the corrupt extension files section of the [[Unable to install add-ons#Corrupt extension files|unable to install add-ons]] article.

Just upgraded to QT Pro for Windows and cant find the "new screen recording" option

I've only ever used QT Pro for Mac. Son got a Windows laptop and would like to do screen recording so I upgraded his QT Player to Pro version.
I had a chat with Apple Store support but they didnt know. Are there differences in Mac and Windows versions? How to get a refund if so? Thanks.

Disk is too slow or System Overload Error on new Core i7 iMac

Well I just unboxed the new supercomputer, 27 inch iMac with Core i7 and 8gigs of ram. Spent several hours installing Logic Studio 9 and for an opening act I loaded up the demo song by Lily Allen. Too my utter dismay within seconds of playing the demo in Logic Pro I was greeted with the error "Disk is too slow or System Overload.(-10010)".
Can anyone make sense of this? Shouldn't this computer be able to handle this multitrack Logic song with relative ease? What is the problem here, I, of course, am very confused and very worried that something is very wrong.

PPC to new core i7 iMac

Can't use Setup or Migration Assistant from Tiger. Transferring 400GBs via TDM/FW800, according to the progress bar, will require 6 days. After 2 days, still 250GBs to go and 4 days on the progress bar.
27" iMac; 3.4Ghz Core i7 with 24GBs RAM from a G5 on Tiger 6GBs RAM
The transfer keeps chugging along(glacially) but is this normal? It's my Pictures folder and has 73,000 files...?? Large LR catalogs and the original 21MB CR2 files.

Thanks BG, but according to the techs, it's not the protocol, it's the way the HD reflects OS 10.4.11. There's just no other way to transfer except how we did it step by step over the phone. And believe me, there was a lot of trial and error!!
The first level AppleCare phone support hadn't a clue, and told me to bring the iMac and ext. HD to an Apple store/Genius Bar, but it was way over their heads. No clue. That's when I tried the AppleCare senior techs, and I should have asked for them the first time.
I'm just hoping the transfer isn't going to freeze at 10GBs to go, or the files will be unreadable/unopenable on the iMac.
That's why I'm trying to get some insight if my transfer speed is somewhere in the ballpark of "normal".

New Core i5 IMac from Core 2 Duo 24".....spinning wheel

Hi - Just got two days ago the 27" i5 - reinstalled all prior applications I owned (FCE 4.0, iWork, Office 2008) connected separate fire-wire 800 drives (1 is Time Machine the other is for iTunes media)- overall, love it - I keep noticing something and it occurs mostly with iTunes - this thing seems to choke up when I scroll through my library or even when a song is playing it sometimes skips or acts weird. I know a lot of folks on the boards are having/were having screen issues - mine seems fine. This just seems very odd based on how fluid my old machine was and this has a lot more horsepower. Any thoughts?

POSTURL opening PHP in new window (and shouldn't)

We are calling a PHP file from Authorware 7. Originally,
nothing would
happen when the php file was called and the server would time
out and act as
though the php file could not be found (with a 5006 error).
But we finally
realized that it wanted to open the php file in a new window
- with a popup.
We are using a normal posturl:
temp2 :=PostURL(NetLocation^"gSysSet.php","",30)
All the php file has in it is 1 line with a echo command.
Does anyone know why the php would open in its own window?
There was a posting earlier about POSTurl and php and we have
checked the
same things that they had in the php.ini file, but cannot
make it just
execute from Authorware and return a result - instead of
returning the
result in a new window. What happens is we still get the 5006
error in
Authorware because the result is returned in a new window and
opened in a
new window so Authorware isn't really communicating with the
php file.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

FIREFOX 26 changed the 'post crash' page with the list of windows and pages. It was a real HTML page with links for each page. Now it isn't (and blows)

This used to be a real HTML page and it isn't any more. THis choice was pure isiocy consider how peopel used that page every day (try taking to your users for a change).
The pages listed on that 'post crash page' used to be actual LINKS (you could right click them &
manually open them in another tab - and most peope DID that every day). You could also (and I did this a lot) drag a second
copy of the page, into a new tab (to keep track of all the pages I had not wanted to open)
Now the pages are no longer links. You cannot right-click them.
The thing in the probser is no longer a page that I can drag into a new tab.
Roll the version back and throw this one in the bin...and have a good long talk with your developers about the definition of
'STUPIDITIY'
Then I try to type anything in the addres bar it is suppose to repoond with the history of old things I have types in the past, or
search for what I type (and in some cases I think it tyes to convert it intoa URL). However it no longer does any of these
things. When I type in the ADDRESS BAR ONLY, I do not get all of my letters to appear. I have to type into a notepad or
into the search and to copy and paste to go to a URL. Nothing that is typed into the address bad responds normally at all
anymore, and I am fairly certain there are no new addons on this machine at all. It does not matter which things I disable. It
still does this. W of course points the finger back at a change to FIREFOX. I wich I could just sitct with one stable release
forever but the MOZILLA folk thing it is best to force peopel awy from a working broswer release to a horrible one (due to it
being out of date).
FIREFOX 26.0 has 'issues' (ie new *features*/bugs)
1) History is no longer accurate. My Proof? This machine is the primary one for the entire family (the only PC working). It is
logged in with same user every time and never has its history cleared. It now January 7 so I ought to have a list of all of last
months browing available to me.
However, according to FIREFOX history, in all of December 2013, the entire family only went to 51 primary URL's. None of
the official TV sites I use to get episodes are listed. None of the official movie sites I use are listed. The primary URL for
ebay is not listed. Only 1 out of our 4 weather sites that I use (at least once a week) are listed. Only 1 of our 3 FINANCE
sites is listed. There ought to be several; hundred root URLs listed.
Please fix history as this change seriously "blows greasy chunks"
PROBLEM (a stupid change in the new FIREFOX version)
FOr a long time, after a crash you got a useful page (a real HTML page) which gave you a list of all of your last sessions
'winwos and tabs' that were open when the browser crashed. there were certain ways of using this page that are no longer
able to be done.
The old method was wonderful as it had this behavior :
*** The old method for displaying your 'Recovered Tabs' allowed you to :
a) right click an individual item and open it in a tab without getting rid of that lovely window of your previous session of
'recovered windows and tabs '.
2) drag the URL for the entire window of 'recovered windows and tabs ' to a new tab (to make a second copy) so that you
could select just a few of them to open as a group, and stil have the old list handy.
You can no longer do either of these things. The 'recovered windows and tabs ' page no longer has links in it and can no longer be dragged, so you cant select a few of them to use, and keep the rest around for later. NOW - once you choose which pages to open the window is gone forever (can can't get a second copy).
People used to make a copy of the page for later use (with a drag)
we also used to open pages with a right click (which no longer functions
This new method seriously blows big greasy chunks. A parge loss in function has occurred.
Put things back as they were. 26 is full of terrible changes that NOBODY likes. It also has a lot of bugs (history is not reliable at all)

(1) Firefox's built-in post-crash page has not been a real HTML page for a long time (for example, from the time of Firefox 22, see: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/968212 Want to save LOTS of versions of "Restore Session.xht" from the "oops ..." page for later use]). If you had this working differently with Firefox 25, that might have been created by an extension.
You can check to see whether extensions are disabled or need an update on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. The disabled extensions cluster toward the bottom of the list. To poll for updates, use the "gear" button above the list and choose Check for Updates.
If you used the Reset feature (or Firefox automatically did a reset due to some problem during upgrading), you will need to reinstall missing extensions. The reset feature creates a folder on the desktop named Old Firefox Data. Do you have that folder? There may be data you can recover from it.
(2) There are many ways for history to get cleared, both internal to Firefox and external. Could you double-check your Privacy settings?

* The "Firefox will" drop-down says Use custom settings for history: inspect the "Clear history when Firefox closes" setting to make Firefox isn't set to clear history. Also check your add-ons and consider external software.
Firefox normally accumulates months of history. However, some of Firefox's database sizes are based on disk space available. If your hard drive is very full, Firefox might reduce the amount of history stored.

Iphoto is a different paradigm than you're used to. I don't understand why you are trying to transfer your edited photos back to an external disk.
