Windows 7 and IGMP Multicast

We have an established piece of software that uses IGMP UDP multicast messages to establish direct TCP communication. The software joins the multicast group using the address 224.100.0.1, then simultaneously sends UDP multicast messages while listening for
UDP multicast messages from other copies of the same software running on other machines on the local network. The messages contain information then used for establishing direct TCP connections for further communication.
This software has been running successfully for many years now on Windows XP machines. We are in the progress of upgrading these machines to Windows 7, resulting in locations with mixed Windows 7 and XP machines on the same network, and have encountered
a frustrating issue. Sometimes the Windows 7 machine will mysteriously refuse to send the multicast messages. The software is running fine on Windows 7, but the UDP multicast messages are not even reaching the router, much less any other machines on the network.
There is only one network interface on the Windows 7 machine, so it's not the known issue of Windows 7 multicast getting confused about which interface to broadcast on. The firewall is turned off, and the network adapter itself is set to allow broadcast
messages through. What else could be blocking/misdirecting the multicast messages?

Did you turn off firewall from all profiles?
Click Start, click All Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click Windows Firewall with Advanced Security.
In the navigation pane, right-click Windows Firewall with Advanced Security on Local Computer, and then click Properties.
On each of the Domain Profile, Private Profile, and Public Profile tabs, change the Firewall state option
to Off (not recommended).
Click OK to save your changes.

  • Multicast filter on SG300-10 and IGMP Querier

    Hi
We're currently testing the Cisco SG300-10 for use with multicast TV services/channels but we're having trouble configuring the switch. Our setup is that we have a TV provider which is multicasting all their TV services into the switch's port 3. The multicast packets of a TV-channel should only be forwarded to another port in the switch if a client sends a IGMP join (report) message to start receiving a service.
First we've tried to disable multicast broadcasting by enabling Bridge Multicast Filtering Status (manual chap 15, "Defining Multicast Properties") but multicast packets are still broadcast on all ports. How do we filter multicast packets so they're not broadcast on all ports?
Also we need the SG300-10 switch to run as IGMP Querier so clients report membership at a regular basis. We've tried enabling IGMP Querier (manual chap. 15 "Configuring IGMP snooping") but it always remain disabled and we never see any IGMP Query messages (we use Wireshark to check this). How do we enable IGMP Querier?
When I press Apply the "IGMP Querier Status" remain "Disabled" in the "IGMP Snooping" page. Also the IP-address I specify is never transferred to the "IGMP Snooping" page.
    Here's the switch's configuration:

Hm, solved multicast by filtering "Unregistered Multicast" and IGMP Querier by enabling IGMP snooping.

  • SG300-28P Multicast (IGMP) and IGMP routing..

A brief background on the setup:
I recently switched out my switch.  It was a Cisco 3750 10/100 switch and I wanted to upgrade to Gig.  The cost of a Gig+POE 3750 is too much to bite so I opted for the SG300.  My router is a Cisco 891.  Here is the setup:
    Cisco 891:
    two SVI's: vlan1 and vlan 100
    Vlan1 = 10.0.1.1/24
    Vlan100 = 10.0.100.2/24
    Connected to SG300 via Fa0
    DHCP Server for vlan1+vlan100
    Cisco SG300-28P:
    two SVI's: vlan 1 and vlan 100
    vlan 1 = 10.0.1.21/24
    vlan 100 = 10.0.100.1/24
Connected to 891 on via Gi18
    The connection between 891 and SG300 = trunk, vlan1-u, vlan100-t
    The problem:
With the 891+3750, I was able to add "ip pim sparse-dense-mode" on all the SVI's and hosts could join any multicast group, irregardless of which vlan the host was a member of.
Now I've changed switches, and I dont get the same love.  I have the PIM statement on both SVI's on the 891, but Im unsure of what I need to configure on the SG300.  I have enabled "Bridge multicast filtering" + "IGMP snooping".  What can I do to get similar functionality using the SG300 + 891?  I assume this is my lack of understanding IGMP in general, but was able to get away with it using the PIM statements on the 891+3750 stack.
    Jeff

You should be able to filter unregisted multicast on every port.
To be able to pass multicast over subnets two things must be certain, the node/device is able to send and receive multicast packets but also register the multicast address being listened to by the node so the local and remote routers can route the multicast packets.
When the switch learns a multicast address through IGMP snooping, this is a registered multicast. The switch will only forward multicast to ports that are registered to the multicast group. Where unregistered multicast comes in, is the multicast that is not statically defined or learned through IGMP which in turn will be forwarded to all ports of the vlan.

  • IDR Hotfix 123621-01 IGMP Multicasting

I have several T2000 servers running Solaris 10 08/07, and they have BEA installed on them. BEA recommends installing IDR Hotfix 123621-01 for IGMP Multicasting problem. I cannot find anything on this and was wondering if anyone knew if this was included in the latest releases of the OS, or if it exists at all any more?
    Thanks!

  • IPTV Viewer Stream Windows 2k and XP

Unable to view real-time stream/programs from it/tv viewer on Windows 2000 and Windows XP workstations. Currently using IP/TV server (3417 Started Kit)to stream video. However, I'm able to view stream with Windows NT 4.0 Clients with no problems.
Multicast is enabled and I do see the multicast addresses. The router that multicast is enabled is a L3 card for a Cisco Catalyst 4006.
Any advise will be greatly appreciated

Check for the presence of a VPN client (even the one included with Win2K). This can cause problems with multicast traffic.

  • I install window 8 and Unfortunatly all drive format. And all drive mix, now i have only 1 DRIVE C. I want Bit locker Drive's data Back

Last sunday i install a window 8 and this window format my all drive & make it 1 drive (DRIVE C). Before all of this i have 5 drive in different size with 1 Bitlocker protect drive.
So i try data recovery software to recover my data. i got back all my data without that ( bitlocker ) protected drive.
so please guys help me how can i get back data from bitlocker protected drives.
    please please help me.

    Hi,
I sorry for your experience, but there is no way to recovery the data encryped by BitLocker untill now.
BitLocker is designed to make the encrypted drive unrecoverable without the required authentication. When in recovery mode, the user needs the recovery password or recovery key to unlock the encrypted drive. Therefore, we highly recommend
that you store the recovery information in AD DS or in another safe location.

  • A hardy ghost of Firefox is apparently running in my computer and I am unable to open Firefox, even after Window restarts and an uninstall/re-install. How do I find and fix this problem?

What happened first is Firefox was revving and using most of my CPU, ultimately "not responding" too easily and for too long, so I closed it in order to reopen it, but Firefox remained running in background (Task Mgr, Processes) after closing, continuing to use almost all my CPU, so I ended the process in Task Mgr.
When I went to re-open it, window opened and told me Firefox could not be opened because another "instance"(?) was still running, to close it or restart Windows. I couldn't close it because I already closed it AND ended the process, so I restarted Windows.
When I tried to open Firefox, I got the same pop-up. I think I restarted Windows one more time, and then uninstalled Firefox, except for my personal settings (in order to save the bookmarks, which I couldn't find in the Firefox folder in Program Files (only Favorites, which were not my bookmarks; I later wondered if they were part of the Firefox add-on "Add This" --??).
I then uninstalled Firefox and re-installed it. When I tried to start the newly re-installed program, I had the same pop-up telling me Firefox was already running and to close it or restart Windows.
I searched my computer folders for anything that might help, did a Search of the computer for "Firefox", and was given some Firefox folders and if they weren't from the new re-install, I deleted them. One thing I noticed was that the program folder did NOT have the program (Firefox.exe) icon to start Firefox.
I uninstalled Firefox and had to resort to using Internet Explorer, which I do NOT like. My rich library of bookmarks are who knows where.
I don't know if this is related, but in searching my computer's Administrative Services and Component Tools (and the like) hoping to find something that would help me fix Firefox, I inadvertently learned that "MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap-in might not have been installed correctly. Name: .NET Framework 1.1 Config."
Please help me get Firefox back and figure out what is going on in my computer that led to this. I am a basic user and not techno-computer saavy, so if anyone can help me with this, please give me step-by-step bonehead instructions.
Thank you so much for any help you can offer!

Make sure that Firefox is set as the default browser.

I am on windows 7 and I upgraded to the newest verison of firefox and now it will not open. I have removed firefox completely and uploaded it again and that did not work. I then made sure it could get through my firewall and that did not work. So my latest attempt I removed firefox 10 again and uploaded the beta version hoping that would do it and once again nothing. It will not open at all. Please help - is there a live chat or a number to talk to someone at Firefox?

I think when uninstalling you may also have to choose (tick) to delete the preferences and other personal data like the bookmarks, stored passwords etc. to erase completely. If you are installing afresh, please try right-clicking on the file and '''Run as administrator''' to install. And when uninstalling, please also make sure choose to delete all data and also manually delete any '''Mozilla''', '''Mozilla Firefox''' or '''Firefox''' from %appdata%, %localappdata% and %programfiles%. You can open a location by typing for eg. %appdata% in the '''Run''' box (Windows key + R). You may also have to check the '''VirtualStore''' folder in %localappdata%. Files in the VirtualStore can be problematic. I think a clean installation may help.

Please note that using system restore would usually damage the Firefox installation.

  • I brought my itunes library onto a mac from a windows machine and now i have two separate libraries.  How can I merge them?

I moved to Mac from a Windows machine where I had downloaded all of my CDs into iTunes.  When I got my Mac it only put my purchased items into my library.  So I merged my windows library and it created a whole new user account with that on it.  I now have two libraries and can only sync music with one account or I lose all of my imported CDs.  Help!  How do I merge them.

The easiest way is to get both computers on your home network and copy the files over the network. It's easier than you think
    Check this earlier thread:
[How do I move my itunes library to new computer|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7937172&#7937172]
That thread mentions Target Disk Mode, which won't help moving from a PC to a Mac. But you can use file sharing to copy the files.
As the articles all say: don't forget to de-authorize your PC before you get rid of it.

  • My new 8th gen iPod nano is 'not recognized' by my computer. My computer runs on Windows 7, and I've installed and updated the latest versions of itunes etc, but still to no avail! I've tried different usb ports, troubleshooting...

My computer runs on Windows 7, and I've installed and updated the latest versions of itunes etc, but still to no avail! I've tried different usb ports, troubleshooting, etc... But it still says "One of the USB decuces arrached to this omputer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it".
The iPod is brand new, sent to me by Apple as part of the 1st gen replacement programme. I've been using the cable that came with the 1st gen iPod (I bought the first gen second hand) It always worked on my computer with the 1st gen iPod. So I was wondering, do you think I need to replace my cable in order for my PC to recognize my iPod or is it something else?
    Thanks

Try a different cable. And are you connecting directly to your computer or through a USB hub?

  • Ipod not recognized by windows, itunes, and will not charge with pc.

yesterday, when i went to sync some new music onto my 1gen nano, it did not work (duh). i plugged it in 3 times:
-1st, it displayed the "do not connect screen" for one second, and itunes flashed the screen it shows when your ipod is connected, but then the ipod disconnected itself after that one second.
-2nd, windows gave me a message saying the hardware could not be recognized.
-3rd, nothing at all happened, as has been happening each time i try to plug it in since then.
i've done the 5 R's .. and i've tried all the suggestions shown on posts that sound like mine, including these: Windows XP cannot detect an iPod.
USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date.
iTunes 7 doesn't recognize the iPod.
my ipod will charge when plugged into a wall charger, and it plays normally. also, my brother's ipod (2nd gen nano) is recognized by windows/itunes.

    Hello
I have been having nearly the same problem as Crashcup for the past month. Differences being I am operating with Windows Vista and my iPod is a 160GB Classic. I have gone through all the steps in the troubleshooting documents to no result. I attach my iPod and it is not recognized by Windows, iTunes or even in Device Manager. Not even as an "Unknown Device".
I know there is nothing wrong with the USB ports as two different external hard drives and a video game controller work perfectly fine through them. Same goes with the iPod itself; it continues to play and function normally, and is recognized by a charging device completely separate from my laptop. Just when attached to the computer there is no sign of it.
I am very frustrated that there is no further instruction with regard to what to do with an iPod Classic (as referred to by Crashcup: "...it says to take a photo with an iPhone, or a screenshot with an iPod touch or iPad. WHAT ABOUT THE IPOD CLASSIC????)
Any help would be much appreciated.l=

  • I upgraded to 10.5.0.142 on windows 7 and I can no longer add any music to my libraries

I upgraded to 10.5.0.142 on windows 7 and I can no longer add any music to my libaries.
It makes a notification sound, but there is no message, and it just doesn't do anything.
How frustrating. Considering apple make excellent products, iTunes is terrible.

I find a way to add music.
    Make sure iTunes is closed.
Go to the song file on your computer. If the file has the little black musical iTunes symbol as its icon, just double click the file. It should open up in iTunes and stay in you library.
If the little black musical iTunes symbol isn't next to the file, right click the file and go to "Open With" and then click on "iTunes". It should open up in iTunes and stay in your library.
Yeaaa its the long way but that's the only way for now, unfortunately.

  • Windows 7 and Windows 8 in the same computer

I have HP Pavilion HDX9300 with two hard discs. I have installed Windows 7 in och of them and Windows 8 in the other. Both W7 and W8 works when the disc is placed in one of the discplaces but not in the other.
If I want to change from W7 to W8 I thus have to change place for the hard disc. My desire is to change from W7 to W8 without changing places for the harddiscs. Is it possible? If so, how do I do?

I believe the second hard drive bay in the HDX9300 is not bootable. You need to load Windows 8 on the same hard drive as Windows 7 as a dual boot.
    http://www.extremetech.com/computing/143380-how-to-dual-boot-windows-8-and-windows-7
You could then use the second drive as storage accessible to both operating systems.
