  • HDD failure, I'd like to know how to get Windows 7 back on it.

Hello everyone, I've had a HDD issue lately, but before I move on to describe my issue, here are the specs of my notebook:
    HP Pavilion dv6-3264ca
    AMD Triple-Core CPU 2.2 Ghz
    6GB RAM
    128MB ATI Graphic Card
    750GB Toshiba HDD
    Windows 7 64-bit
    The issue:
Recently I've had a very unfortunate HDD failure. The recovery partition wouldn't even load. I tried booting my notebook on Linux with the HDD still attached, and it wouldn't read. I extracted the HDD and placed it in an HDD-enclosuer and it still wouldn't load on Windows XP or Vista or 7. It would however read in the device manager of Windows and also in the BIOS.
I needed to extract some high-priority data from there so I managed to retrieve all my data safely through a data recovery service, but now the drive is rendered useless. I was told a low-level format might be able to help it be usable again, and if that were to happen, the recovery partition would then be removed in the process.
In addition to that, I would like to install Windows 7 64-bit onto the drive, but the notebook box did not come with an installation CD, which is quite frustrating. Is there any way HP can let me download Windows 7 through some warranty service?
I have a one-year warranty on my laptop.
So in closing, I would like to know if I can get Windows 7 back onto my HDD for free, or if I need to go about buying Windows 7 again.
Any advice from you kind folks?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
    Here are Two options.
    1.  If you have ( or can borrow ) a retail Windows 7 installation disc that is exactly the same version as your OEM installation - ie if your notebook came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit this is the exact retail version you would need.
If you don't have access to a retail disc, you can create an installation disc yourself - just download the correct Disc Image from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD.
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/download-windows-7-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit-direct-download-link...
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the underside of your notebook when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.
    http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-windows-7-by-phone.aspx
Any additional drivers you may need can be found Here.
    2.  You can order a replacement set of Recovery Discs using the link below - these cost around $30 if you live in the US.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00810334&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en
If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

  • Satellite C855D-16J - How do I get Windows 8 back to normal?

It's a long story how this all happened.
Basically, it all started when I decided to give Ubuntu a go.
After going through with the setup and completing the installation, I'd realised I'd made a terrible mistake; I'd wiped my hard drive entirely.
Next I had to spend hours looking for a method to reinstall Windows 8. I found a helpful post on some forum and burned a Windows 8 recovery ISO to my USB stick.
Installation was successful and I got Windows 8 back, or so I'd thought...
    It turns out I only had an evaluation version. On my desktop it says the following;
    'Windows 8 Enterprise Evaluation'
Windows License valid for 90 days
    Build 9200'
I thought that if I could use the product key that's hidden in the BIOS, using Keyfinder, I could get it working again with [ this|http://windows.microsoft.com/is-is/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only] , but nope. I got the error: 'This product key cannot be used to install retail version of windows 8'
My laptop, a Toshiba Satellite C855D-16J, came preinstalled with Windows 8. I'd like to know how to get this thing working again.
I don't have any money to spend(not that I should need to spend anything) and would like help urgently, please. Some ISO or key or anything. It's enough to lose my files, I don't want to be stuck with laptop I can't use
    Thank you.

    Hmmm... stupid situation now.
If I understand you right you didnt create recovery media. Thats your biggest mistake.
Problem is that recovery image is not for public usage and cannot be downloaded anywhere.
    You have two possibilities now:
    1/to install own OS version
2/to order original recovery disc (link is posted by Tom)
I must also say that order is not for free and costs about 30 Euros but believe me it is best solution for you. Using this disc you will have factory settings again and preinstalled OS version will be activated.

Actually, I suspect you can't. You get various behaviors based on a combination of settings in Preferences > Interface; namely Open Documents as Tabs and Enable Floating Document Window Docking; but it doesn't seem to make much sense as far as I can tell. Throw in the additional "application frame" wildcard on a Mac, and even just exploring the effects of the settings and drawing conclusions about them gets tricky. It sounds like you've got your windows floating, whereas I suspect many if not most users have opted for the more structured and seemingly more logical tabbed/docked method, in which case they haven't encountered your issue and don't really understand it. One might ask; if your new/current document is "in front" then what difference does it make if others behind it are minimized, maximized, or something in between?

  • When I code script window.history.back(); /script on a page due to a data validation problem, all browsers except Firefox redisplay the filled-out form page.

When I use javascript "window.history.back()" because a user enter invalid text, Firefox returns to the page with the form on it but it clears out the form. All the other browsers go back to the previous page with the form filled out as it was when submit was entered.
Firefox did not used to do this. I do not change browser settings from default to get this unfortunate behavior. This may mean Firefox is more secure, but only on a public computer. On a private computer, this sucks.

    See if this helps you.

Gets pretty annoying when I am switching from one sticky to another.

That’s not a virus; it’s adware. Click here and follow the instructions, or if desired, run Adware Medic.

  • An app to make my windows go back to a set size when I connect my monitor?

This might be an odd request, but is there an application to make my windows go back to a set size whenever I connect my 22" monitor or when I disconnect and use the 13" screen? There is a lot of "overhang" when I disconnect, and the windows are tiny when I go back to the 22". It could save me a lot of trouble, and I would use my MacBook a lot more than just on my desk.
I have basic knowledge around AppleScript, so maybe that could be a solution.
    Thanks in advance!

What will not go on the iPod? The app? The tones?
Are the Tones in the Tone library in your iTunes library?
Did you check the tones to sync to your iPod?
Do the tones play i iTunes?

  • Updated iPad to ios5 I want window tabs back how can I get it back

How can I get window tabbing back.  I updated to ios5 and do not lie the new tabs

Safari on iOS 5 uses tabbed browsing, thumbnail/page browsing is not possible. I think that the iCab Mobile browser supports thumbnail/pages browsing, or you could try leaving feedback for Apple and maybe in a future iOS version we'll get the choice : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • How To reset Safari window size back to original factory setting?

How To reset Safari window size back to original factory setting?
I resize my pages often but I don't want to always keep them at random sizes. I want to know the proper method to reset the webpage size back to it default size. Right now it's too wide, and I click the green plus button in the upper left corner and it goes down to a very small size, I click the green plus again and it returns to the Too Wide size. I just can't seem to get it to go back to the default size.
    Thanks for your help!

You could try this.   Set the safatri page to your convenience by dragging the bottom right hand corner of the page.   Quit safari, then immediately relaunch.   It should start up the same size as it was before you quit.  Then ...
Go to Safari > preferences and set the page as your home page.

  • Time Capsule and Windows 7 Back Up and Restore

    Hello,
I would like to know i can manage to save my backup of windows 7 on the Time Capsule using the back and restore tools ?
I am using on my time capsule the file sharing with the disk password, but it doesnt seems to work.
    Can u please help ?
    Thx !

Open the guest access and give read and write permissions.
Also make sure you actually give the WORKGROUP name in the WORKGROUP area, correct to the win7 workgroup..
If you still cannot access the TC try turning off the firewall in win7.. you may also need to ensure that win7 is recognised as in home, ie local network, not work or public.
Open a command window and ping the TC to make sure you have network access.
In windows explorer type \\ipaddressofTC\ into the address bar.. that being its IP address. You can also try netbios name.
If none of that works post again but it should.. on latest firmware on the TC??
You need to use windows backup which is near useless.. I recommend you download a utility that can do a proper disk image.. there are plenty around.

  • Satellite L300 Windows 7 back to Vista with Toshiba Recovery CDs

    Hello all,
I have a Toshiba Satellite Series L300 (2008 model) laptop which originally had Vista but I installed Windows 7 Professional on it. I now wish to return back to Vista.
I noted that the 'Windows.old' folder created on the C:/ drive seems to be missing a lot of files and could have been altered since the date it was created. I think it would be too risky to use it to recover back to Vista.
So my question is can I use my original set of Toshiba Recovery DVDs to get back to Vista? I want to do a full factory reset to recover my system to when it was originally purchased with Vista.
If the Recovery DVDs is not an option and the only was is by using the Windows.old folder, if it is lacking important files could it leave my system corrupted? I am sure there is a way to get back to Vista by factory restore somehow.
    Comments and feedback urgently required!
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello sauza
Wait a moment. You mix two different things. If you want to install original recovery image it can be done on two ways:
    # Using created recovery discs DVDs
    # Install image using HDD recovery method (recovery image saved on HDD)
    >Ok but how do I use the Toshiba recovery disks to reset my computer back to Vista factory settings?
This question is related to method 1.
    >I press F8 at start-up---> select Repair computer---> select my language----> Then it gives me Windows 7 Options to only Restore by Disk Image which I created at a earlier date.
This description is related to method 2 and has nothing with installation with Toshiba recovery disks as you wrote in your last posting.
Method 2 can be used if notebook has factory settings. After own OS installation recovery image is not available anymore and recovery image can be installed with recovery discs only.
I hope you understand now how it works.
If you have more questions please let me know.

  • Windows 7 back to vista?

I just upgraded the 64-bit vista that came with my Touchsmart PC to Windows 7. One of my programs does not work now so I want to go back. Is there a way to go back without having to reinstall all my programs?
Does anyone know if the HP Touchsmart PCs will run on a 32-bit version of Vista? I have a printer that only has a 32-bit driver.

  • How to transfer windows 7 back up to hard drive

Ok so I have windows 7 insalled using bootcamp and i only set the partition to 100 Gb to play games on (MacbookPro late 2013 Nvidia 2 gb) so i decided that wasnt enough and that i will create a new partition that is 250gb. I then backed up all my files to a 500 gb harddrive. I then copied the back up to OSX mavericks. Then i formatted the harddrive to install windows 7 on again (this time 250Gb) and as i switch back to OSX and try to copy the back up from my internal ssd to my hard drive it says the file is too large to put on disk (When i already formatted it and the back up is 50 Gb) so is there a way to transfer the back up to on my Mac to the hard drive?
    Cheers.

    Try here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp?view=discussi ons
But you don't usually have good luck at all trying to use Windows on new hardware.
Do a clean install, time to start over.
And if you did you would use Windows 7 DVD anyway to restore system restore image that you made ahead of time - hopefully, the best way to get your settings though is with Windows Easy Transfer.
Apple has Migration Assistant for Windows - take a look at that,, too.
