Windows 7 boot camp (Macbook Pro 13") function keys

Hey everyone,
I've had Bootcamp installed on my Mac prettty much since a few days after I bought it about 3 weeks ago. I've always had this issue- but finally thought I'd do something about it.
So, when I'm booted into Windows 7 (ultimate, 64 bit) my function keys (brightness, keyboard brightness, volume, eject) will not work, with or without the fn key held down. I have toggled the option in bootcamp preferences.. But this has not helped. Other than that though- it works 100% correctly... It's not too bad... its just irritating.

  • Tap to click Windows 8 Boot Camp MacBook Pro Mountain Lion?

I am running Windows 8 through Boot Camp on a 2012 MacBook Pro, and I can't figure out how to enable the tap-to-click feature that I use on the OSX partition of my hard drive. Can anyone help?

Change “Tap to Click” (and other preferences) using Apple’s Boot Camp Control Panel:
Hit Windows + W (er, Command + W) to search in settings, type “Boot Camp” and hit Enter/Return.
Answer “Yes” to the question about whether you want to let this app have its way with your computer.
In the resulting “Boot Camp Control Panel” switch to the “Trackpad” tab.

  • Boot camp 3, windows 7, 13" unibody macbook and keyboard function keys....

after some screwing around (disable user access control, install tweak util to allow unsigned drivers) most features of my macbook are now working in windows 7. battery life looks abysmal as it was in vista, but i'll deal with that later.
the major glitch at this point seems to be the keyboard. the boot camp manager in the system tray has the keyboard option, which does nothing. pressing fn-f1, f2, etc does nothing except bring up help or the corresponding f-key value for windows. i manually reinstalled the apple keyboard driver, but this obviously isn't a driver issue - it's a keyboard manager issue. i notice that there is no more kbdmgr.exe in boot camp 3... at least as far as i can tell. what process is now responsible for these keyboard functions? it would be really nice to be able to eject discs, use volume, hit ctrl-alt-del, etc!!
thanks in advance to anyone who has figured this out.

to sum up: actually got 7 running, but all just to a certain extent:
Keyboard works rather well, even though the backlight cant be fully switched off in low light conditions. Low light is considered even if its still bright enough to easily read the keys labels, but thats just the same as in OSX.
The trackpad works half way, as a poorly working standard touchpad with + two finger scrolling (way too quick) + two finger right click. Tapping works, but dragging and tapping doesnt work technically (clicking a button then quickly moving the cursor is misstaken as dragging, feels inferior in recognition to other touchpads). Multitouch stuff doesnt work at all, which is a pain seeing that touchpad.
Sound quite works, but if u reboot the macbook in having the sound muted u need to reboot again with sound switched on to make the sound play through the speakers.
    CD eject seems buggy too.
Battery runs like 2,5 hours (4 hours in OS X). (Must be a driver issue, windows CAN run such a notebook for 4 hours too, just consider all those lenovo thinkpads)
Why the **** does installing Windows on a Mac feel like installing Linux on a random PC...
If anyone has solutions/hints regarding the sound or the trackpad let the world know!
Coolest thing ever would be to get synaptics drivers running with the Apple touchpad. Could be possible, since in Linux as far as i get it the macbook touchpad is driven by synaptic drivers as well. Would need some fiddling though, maybe someone manages?!

  • No bootable device boot camp macbook pro retina 10.8.4

    Hi,
I am reposting this under this community instead of under os x system software since it looks like there is no way to move posts to a different community. Anyway, just  bought a brand new Macbook Pro with retina display running 10.8.4. I  have always been a PC guy so I wanted to create a small Windows 7  Professional edition partition. I am using bootcamp to try and install  it but I keep getting the above no bootable device black screen when  boot camp restarts the mac to boot from the usb. My flash drive is a  Kingston Data Traveler 16GB. The kingston does not come with any of its  own software. It's completely blank. I have to use usb since I have no  optical drive. These were the three different ways I have tried so far.
1). Using my older lenovo PC, I created an iso image of my windows 7 disc using one of lenovo's bundled software: power2go.
Transferred it to my mac with the kingston and then ran bootcamp. - Failed
2).  Used the windows 7 USB/DVD tool. Now when trying to do this, the tool  said that the iso I have is not valid. I searched around the net for  this problem and resolved it using another tool. Now before actually  using the tool to copy the iso to the stick I thought to myself maybe  this problem is why bootcamp failed. So I transferred the 'fixed' iso  and ran bootcamp again on it and still same result.
3).  Actually use the win7 tool and copy the iso to the usb. Since I had  already partitioned the drive I didn't go throught the boot camp  assistant. I was going to install the support software later after I  could confirm mac could boot from the usb. I restarted the mac with this  usb stick plugged in and same result.
Now  in all three steps I actually pressed and held the alt/option key upon  reboot and in all three instances there was no 'Wininstall' drive that I  could select to start the installer. All I see is the macHD and the  recovery partition.
Doing  some searching there were some threads that discussed modifying the  plist (in the disk utility app I think) but to me that was only so  bootcamp could add in the option to create an install disk via usb.  Since that problem isn't there I didn't bother trying it. Maybe I am  wrong? Any other suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

Update: A user responded to the other thread. So the usb flash device that I am using is 3.0 and looks like there can be problems with that one. So the proposed a solution is to get an external dvd drive and try to install it that way. Perhaps a usb 2.0 stick might work as well. In either case I'll have to buy one. Will update this once done.
The other alternative is to use windows through a VM.

  • Boot Camp: Macbook Pro 8,2 wont boot from USB or External CD Drive

Im pretty far into this process, and I have already jumped through a few hoops.  I have replaced my Superdrive with a HD and am trying to install Boot Camp on a late 2011 Macbook Pro 8,2.  I have gone in and edited the info.plist by taking out PRE which allowed me to make a USB Bootable drive with Windows 7 Ultimate on it.  I also have the install DVD with a an activation key for that.  I have partitioned my HD with 50 GB of space for Boot Camp and Windows and then it prompts me to restart.  At this point the computer tries to boot into Windows installer but instead gives me " No Bootable Device - insert bootable CD and press any key..."  I have tried restarting holding option with the external CD drive and USB drive plugged in, with just the USB drive plugged in, and with just the external CD drive plugged in.  With the CD drive plugged in and by holding option I do get the option to boot from OSX, Recovery, Windows, and EFI boot (the last two have the icon of a disk.)  When I click on windows it goes to the black screen with No Bootable Device.... and when I tried EFI boot it just sits there for a really long time and does nothing.  Any help?
I have already had people tell me to re-install my superdrive and try but that was a tedious process and I'd rather not do that.  Thanks in advance,

Meh, with the price they take for a drive in Denmark, I don't think it's worth it... They take around 160 $ for the drive (that's the cheapest MacBook drive I could find), and I am not even sure that's the one I need.

  • Boot Camp MacBook Pro

Im trying to Boot Camp my MacBook Pro and is asked to make a backup. Is there anyway around this or do i have to make a backup? Dont have an external harddrive and dont really wanna buy one just for this

The reasoning is, very BAD things can happen.  And if they do, you will be back here asking for a fix.  The fix is to have a backup.
I urge you to protect your investment and your data (not to mention your sanity) and get an external drive.
Sorry I don't know a workaround, and there may be a good reason there isn't one.

  • MacBook Pro Keyboard Function Keys & Backlight Stopped Working

This is a repost of an older thread, however i am having the same exact problem and i know i am not the only one.
    Origionally posted by FIDO2010 -
"Problem: The keyboard function keys (i.e. screen brightness, audio volume etc.) and backlight no longer work in Windows 7 (64-Bit) running Boot Camp 3.x. I also had the identical problem with Windows Vista (64-Bit) running Boot Camp 2.1.
Oddity: When I first installed Windows 7 and Boot Camp 3.x (same with Vista and Boot Camp 2.1), the keyboard and backlighting worked perfectly for about 3 Shut-Down/Re-Starts.
Points of Interest: I use a Logitech MX Revolution 2.4GHZ mouse and a Microsoft Blue Tooth Presenter Mouse 8000 with this machine. When I had this problem running Vista 64-Bit and Boot Camp 2.1, I assumed the problem was created by installing the drivers for these mice (suspecting that the mouse drivers over-wrote the Apple keyboard driver); however, I installed NO mouse drivers when I deleted the Vista 64 Boot Camp partician and created the "fresh" Windows 7 (64-bit) / Boot Camp 3.x partician.
I have tried the obvious of un-installing/re-installing Boot Camp, running the Boot Camp driver in repair mode, and manually replacing the keyboard driver itself. None of which have worked.
    Solutions?"
Any insight will be greatly appreciated. this issue is driving me crazy. Must have installed windows a good 30-40 times in the past couple months. thank you

As you all are probably well aware, this exact problem has been asked on a countless number of discussion boards and each is answered with a different "solution." Quotation marks are necessary because the solutions suggested work for some users but don't work for others. So, in a way, I offer those who read this reply this same disclaimer. The following solution worked for me (for now!) but it may not work for you.
Just like those other users, my volume and brightness function keys on my Macbook refused to work after installing the latest Bootcamp updates and after restarting Windows 'x' amount of times. In addition, trackpad scrolling, which worked great after one of the updates, also did not respond.
Here's what I did to get them working again, and it's rather simple. Find the Bootcamp application in Windows. Mine was housed in Program Files but yours may located be somewhere differently. Right-click the application and select Open. In my case the screen went black and the resolution downgraded to 800x600 or lower when the images on the screen returned so keep this in mind if or when you attempt this. The screen is significantly cropped so you may have trouble navigating to the Control Panel to fix the resolution to your liking. Anyway, now my brightness and volume function keys and trackpad scrolling work properly.
I should mention one or two more bits of information before I sign off. To start, I cannot say if this trick continues working after restarting Windows. Also, I do not know if this process is something you have to perform everytime you run Windows. In any case, let the world know if this or any other solution fixes this stated problem for you.

If GTA IV believes the system is under specification even though the computer is powerful enough to run the game with higher settings, the following will fix this problem.
This will work if your problem looks like this: "resource usage 230/60" and you can't change any other setting
    Just follow the steps:
    Step 1: Create a text file named ‘commandline.txt’ (without the " ")
Step 2: Put the following statement inside it:
    i5 users: -availablevidmem 18.0 (with the -)
    i7 users: -availablevidmem 22.0 (with the -)
Step 3: Open the main GTAIV folder (C/ program files (86)/ rockstar games/ GTA IV) and copy the commandline.txt file into it.
Step 4: locate the file "GTAIV.exe" (in GTA main folder)
Right click the file and select Properties
Under the shortcut tab, you will see an area that says Target
Modify the Target adding the command line after the last quotation mark (just add the statement you added in commandline.txt)
    (remember, i5 users: -availablevidmem 18.0 / i7 users: -availablevidmem 22.0)
It should look something like this:
Make sure to add space between " and -"
I hope This helps, although late cx

I have installed Windows 7 into my Macbook Pro 15 inch with Lions as operating system.  (current model with 2.2 GHz i7 processor, 500 GB HD ad 5400 rpm).  When I started with boot camp, the system promped me to create a disc, which I presume is for the drivers for windows 7.  Now windows is intalled.  What do I do with the CD that the system created for me?  Also, why does the system automatically start in Win7 instead of Lion.  I need to pression the option key to have it start in OS X.  I thought it was supposed to be the opposite.

Insert it while you are in Windows, if it does not autostart run setup.exe.
Choose your startup disk using Apple>System Preferences>Startup Disk (in OSX) or Control Panel>Boot Camp>Startup Disk (in Windows)

But now after installing Windows 7, many things in windows doesn't work (sound etc.). I made a clean installation because I needed to go from 32 bit to 64 bit.
Or should I just update bootcamp in Lion? (cause when I search for "boot camp" in Windows 7 there's no result)

    What DVDs are this ?
If it is OSX Snow Leopard Installation DVD then yes this disc contains the BootCamp Drivers version 3.x and is needed after the installation of Windows to install the BootCamp Drivers.
With OSX Lion BootCamp is at version 4.x and the BootCamp Drivers have to be downloaded during use of the BootCamp Assistant in OSX.
