Windows 7 boot freezes

When i try to boot Windows 7 it freezed with a white screen.  This happens when I use "Boot Disk" in Preferences or select the drive after booting with the "Option" key.  Any ideas, please?

msconfig / chkdsk / Windows 7 DVD system repair or rollback restore point
Ccleaner 3.09 - remove temp files and caches / also run Registry section
Start: Run %TEMP% (select all) and remove all the contents in there
Heat, fans, poor Apple drivers, I would not blame ATI but I would upgrade/install those.
And yes BC 4.0 probably was not tested fully.

  • Ipod Software Causing Windows 2000 Boot Freeze

    Hi All,
We loaded our new IPod software onto my wifes Dell 4100. After loading the software, the system will no longer boot. It freezes on the Windows boot screen every time. We've tried the F8 options and the system wont safe boot either. Help!
    Rob

I'm having a similar problem. I may end up buying antoher hard drive and install the OS on it, using my current drive as a slave (storage) drive. this way I can get all of my files off of the original hard drive.
I have not found any solution to the problem yet.

  • Windows 8.1 freezes while booting up with discrete graphic card T520

    Hi all,
Hoping someone can help me here. If I use my discrete video card (nvs 42000m) to boot into windows, it will freeze on the sign in page or sometimes on the metro page however when Optimus is enabled it works just fine.
So I thought it was a driver issue. I went to Nvidia and downloaded their latest video card driver for windows 8.1. No help
Uninstalled that, went to Lenovo's support site and installed their recommended driver and all other windows 8 drivers. Again it would freeze
Booted into safe mode uninstalled that, turned optimus back on, and this time used Windows update to install my video drivers (intel and Nvidia both this time).
Didn't work. So I spent maybe another hour or so fiddling and after many restarts i finally found the culprit. It was the Lenovo monitor driver. As soon as I uninstalled that, everything worked fine and I could finally use my laptop with optimus disabled and discrete video card enabled.
Windows update keeps recommending me to update the monitor driver but if I do, then it freezes again so I'm just leaving it as the default generic monitor.
The reason why I made this thread is to inform and save potential users in the future who have a similar laptop to mine (t520 with hd 3000 and nvidia 42000m) with Windows 8 installed and they happen to choose to solely run their laptop with the discrete graphics card, remember to uninstall your monitor driver.
I am open to recommendations and other alternatives.

  • Updated to mavericks, now windows 7 partition freezes on boot

i have a late 2012 macbook pro, just updated to mavericks, now w7 64bit boot freezes on grey load screen.  tried SMC/PR resets, just got off the phone with support and they don't have a clue on what to do to resolve the issue other than a reinstall (if my only option is reinstall I might abandon bootcamp and try another option).  any advice?

    Hello,
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

  • Windows 7/Boot Camp/SSD SATA3 install problems

    Hi there,
I just registered to this community having bought a MacBook Pro 17" on Friday. The aim was to immediately upgrade the stock 5400 rpm drive with 120 GB SSD SATA 3 drive.  I installed a brand-new Corsair Force Series 3 120gb SSD but that drive was not even recognized by the Install DVD disk utilities. So I gave up on that one. I then tried an OCZ Vertex 3 and that was recognised immediately. I managed to install Snow Leopard no problems. The problem came when I tried to install Windows 7 using Boot Camp. It's important that I can have access to Windows 7 more than OS X at the moment as I am mainly a Windows user. 12 hours later I still hadn't managed to install Windows 7 after numerous attempts. The various problems included Windows 7 unable to format the drive. Also when I did manage to install Windows 7 it never quite completed the install or would freeze on the starting Windows screen. I managed to get into the Windows 7 installation a couple of times but then the whole shebang would freeze when I tried to install the Boot Camp drivers. Upon rebooting I would not be able to boot back into the Windows partition again. I was rapidly losing the will to live. So I gave up on the OCZ SSD drive as well.
This morning as a last resort I installed an older Corsair Force Series 2 SSD 60 GB drive as an experiment. It was recognized immediately by the disk utilities unlike the Series 3 version and I managed to install Snow Leopard and Windows 7 via Boot Camp with zero problems. So it all up and running. Obviously the hard drive is much smaller than I wanted. But it proves one thing and that is that support of popular brands of SSD SATA 3 drives in the MacBook Pro 17" version is flaky to say the least and on the tests I did using two of these drives it was impossible to install Windows 7 using Boot Camp.
If anyone else has experienced similar problems I'll be interested to hear.
    Regards
    Kraznet

Oh yes, there are two flaky things to contend with here: the Corsair Force 3 120GB has had recall. I also have found the older 120GB didn't work properly on some motherboards and with older BIOS and Intel drivers.
    Questions:
This is hopefully not an electronic EDU/MSDN ISO of Windows that you burned wtih Apple Disk Utility?
primary Windows - forget Boot Camp Assistant - just boot from OS X DVD and change the SSD to Windows MBR partition table and FAT and then format in Windows. Me, I would have bought Windows 7 SP1 64-bit System Builder.
From a hardware review reposted to Amazon:
The Corsair Force Series 3 SSDs were announced just a few weeks ago - boasting SandForce SF-2281 controllers and a very aggressive price point. Just days after the first units started shipping, Corsair has issued a recall of the 120GB Force Series 3 SSDs. According to Corsair, the 120GB model is seeing, "a significant percentage of these drive do not operate to specification." What the failure is exactly isn't clear, Corsair is quick to deflect blame from their partners, simply stating that both hardware and firmware need to be fixed.
Buyers of the Force Series 3 SSD in the 120GB capacity can return the drive to Corsair for exchange - retailers are also accepting returns. The 60GB and 240GB models are not affected. For more information on how to exchange a defective drive, visit this thread [...] in the Corsair support forums.
I'm surprised anyone is selling the Force 3 120GB (though it is on Newegg it is not on Amazon since it was pulled)

  • Windows XP Machine Freeze before Login Screen 2015

Has there been any Windows updates applied recently that may be causing this? Has any new hardware been added to them? A virus seems unlikely but not impossible. How old are the machines and how many is this happening to?
When you get to System Restore, what is the last checkpoint showing as having a Restore point created for? It is quite likely that that event is causing this
You really need to look at getting off XP - it is out of support and is going to have more and more of these problems

    Hi All,
Suddenly all machines running Windows XP just freezes before the login screen comes.
Windows boots up. Showing the LOGO but just before the login screen comes it just freezes.
I have performed system restore some restore and boots up but some does not restore.
On Some of the computers that have been restored successfully, this problem has reoccured. The are instance where we have formatted a machine completely, but after a while this problem reoccurs.
I am suspecting a virus but not totally sure.
    Can anyone help

  • Blue Screen on Windows 7 Boot

I repartitioned the hard drive on a computer running only Windows 7.  This was done using non Windows utilities that have proven to be very reliable in the past.  The utilities in question are all on the System Rescue CD and include (GParted, and
ntfsclone).  Insofar as it appears to me that the software supplied by Windows will not allow any movement of partitions it is necessary to use other software for this purpose.  There are many articles in this forum which indicate that such software
must be used for such partition management activity.
The affect of the repartitioning is that the primary partition that contains the Windows 7 operating system is now the third one on the drive rather than the second one.  I was able to add an entry in the BCD for the boot manager to use to find the
new partition.  The boot manager seems to work fine.  It appears to me as though the Windows 7 boot loader (WinLoad.exe) does execute and the kernel is loaded.  However, before there is any opportunity to interact with Windows the blue screen
occurs.  On my computer you only see the blue screen error messages momentarily and then the computer reboots.  This amounts to the deadly embrace.  Is there some kind of setting that will allow me to learn what the error message says?
I have tried starting in "safe mode".
I'm pretty confident that the partition was moved correctly.  In that, the new partition is an exact copy of the original.  This technique is something that I've done repeatedly and works very well with Windows XP even though there are registry
updates that are necessary to complete the task.  The difference being that Windows XP does boot satisfactorily which allows this to be done.  What do I need to do to get Windows to boot successfully?

    Hi,
Seems the PC is completely unbootable at this moment, I would suggest you use startup repair or the Last known good configuration under advanced startup options and check if it can bring the PC back to normal.
You can see guide in the link below

  • Windows 7 Boot Camp no longer recognize my wireless mouse and Keyboard?

I have a mid 2011 27in iMac on 10.9.1 and I run Windows 7 via boot camp, sometimes Parallels as well. Today I tried to boot up in to Windows via Boot Camp, but I can not control the cursor or input anything via kayboard. This has happened before and I only got it working again after reinstalling Windows, which I am REALLY trying to avoid
The thing is, when I boot in to Windows, it is definitely responding to the keyboard when I hold F8 to go in to safe mode, but once the desktop loads up, I lose any function of mouse or keyboard. Even when I try to manually add a device using a USB mouse, it is not detecting any wireless device.
Both my Magic Trackpad and Wireless Keyboard work fine in OS X, Windows 7 when in Parallels and works during the start up of boot camp, but not when Windows 7's desktop boots up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You have to download the drivers. To download them, press X key while your Mac is starting to start into Mac OS X, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow the steps to download them. You will have to burn them onto a DVD or USB drive, so you will be able to install the drivers on Windows. Then, it should work fine.
If you can't download them in Boot Camp Assistant, download the drivers from this website > http://www.cafe-encounter.net/p682/download-bootcamp-drivers The links are from Apple and that's safe to download and install

  • EFI Update v2.6 breaks Windows dual boot

The EFI Update MBA51.00EF.B02 has broken WIndows on my MacBook Air 2012
Bootcamp Dual boot using OSX Lion & WIndows 7 was working fine prior to the EFI update.
Since then, the WIndows initial boot screen displays, but as soon as the GUI starts there is a blank notebook screen.
Using an external monitor connected via Thunderbolt > VGA adapter, the Windows GUI Logon & desktop shows on the external monitor, but Control Panel display manager cannot see the MBA own lcd screen as a display option.
This makes it unusable as a portable WIndows M/C, as instead of fixing WIndows it has broken it.
    Can I regress ?
Is there a fix to this issue ?
    Please Help

@vintherine: Everything you mentioned in the 1st post is correct. In your case the correct commands should be:
    grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=/boot/efi --bootloader-id=arch_grub --recheck
    grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
Thanks. I've tried that, get now a single line with Windows, which does not work
EDIT: Are you able to boot Windows independent of GRUB, ie. directly from the firmware boot menu?
I've tried F12 key, found a menu, started on the HD, found a new menu corresponding with the EFI directories (arch_grub, Microsoft....). Microsoft entry sent me on... grub menu
EDIT: Can you try (note the extra line : "set gfxpayload=keep")
It's time for diner (i'm in France). I'll see this in the next hour.
    Many thanks
Seems like the actual Windows bootmgfw.efi was overwritten by grubx64.efi or something else. In the boot menu Windows's entry (created by Windows installer) is usually titled "Windows Boot Manager".
    EDIT:
Try this. Copy the files from Windows's C:\Windows\Boot\EFI to <EFISYS>/EFI/Microsoft/Boot/ . Overwrite any exisitng files, and make sure <EFISYS>/EFI/Microsoft/Boot/BCD file exists. That is the Windows equivalent of grub.cfg (although BCD cannot be read easily since it is not a text file). Try your menuentry again.

  • 285 GTX Mac and Windows XP booting with Boot Camp - Black Screen

I decided to update my 8800GT to the newer 285 GTX. Loaded the drivers, a must first, then installed the card. Booted the Mac and wow what an inprovement.
Here's where the problems start. I used Boot Camp to boot to my Windows XP 32 install in Bay 2. Got the Windows Start Up screen then nothing but black.
I reinstalled my 8800 GT and restarted the computer. I installed the latest nVidia drivers (190.38) in XP.
I reinstalled the 285 GTX and tries again. Mac worked fine when I restarted in XP got the Windows startup screen then nothing but black.
I could use some answers to solve this problem. I believe the 285 is supposed to work booting Windows from Boot Camp but I can't figure out how to make it work.
    Thanks in Advance

I know I saw, and tried to help, someone else with the same questions. At that time I think tried to get them to use Driver Sweeper 2.0 and really uninstall drivers and any leftovers.
So there should be another thread here, but maybe also on eVGA forum.
And it doesn't make sense, unless XP or even Apple's leftover Boot Camp drivers. So look for Driver Sweeper 2.0, works better; and there is a thread on evga for removing graphic driver and upgrade.

  • I can not use my mouse or keyboard when I am trying to install windows via boot camp

    Please can you help!
I can not use my mouse or keyboard when I am trying to install windows via boot camp

Starting a couple of days ago my mouse and keyboard stopped working suddenly.
How are they connected?   In my case they are wireless and their receiver is plugged into my USB hub.  After an update I found the OS inexplicably not recognizing my USB hub and hence any devices which were plugged into it.  My fix was to
plug the receiver into a different USB port (so I could use the mouse and keyboard; otherwise I would have had to use the OSK via Touch or pen.)  Once I had normal access into my machine again I used Device Manager to remove all USB controller and
hubs (including hidden ones) and I then shut down, disconnected all USB devices and powered back up, this time using only Touch to get going.  Once the OS had settled down I started plugging stuff back in the way that I wanted it to be recognized.
If I didn't have Touch I would have had to have left the wireless receiver plugged in both places which I assume would be OK.  I have no idea why updates have such a catastrophic effect for USB devices.

Unable to open windows using boot camp.  Get message "The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk."   I am using an Imac , Lion operating system, and Windows 7.  It worked a few days ago.  Any thoughts, Thank you.

Note that nowhere in the Boot Camp instructions does it tell you to use Disk Utility to format the Windows partition. The Boot Camp Assistant program creates the partition & sets the +partition scheme info+ of the disk as appropriate for the Windows installer but the Windows installer itself is responsible for formatting the new partition with the appropriate +file system scheme+ (NTFS for Windows 7).
If you follow the instructions in the Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide to the letter you should have no problems installing Windows.

If GTA IV believes the system is under specification even though the computer is powerful enough to run the game with higher settings, the following will fix this problem.
This will work if your problem looks like this: "resource usage 230/60" and you can't change any other setting
    Just follow the steps:
    Step 1: Create a text file named ‘commandline.txt’ (without the " ")
Step 2: Put the following statement inside it:
    i5 users: -availablevidmem 18.0 (with the -)
    i7 users: -availablevidmem 22.0 (with the -)
Step 3: Open the main GTAIV folder (C/ program files (86)/ rockstar games/ GTA IV) and copy the commandline.txt file into it.
Step 4: locate the file "GTAIV.exe" (in GTA main folder)
Right click the file and select Properties
Under the shortcut tab, you will see an area that says Target
Modify the Target adding the command line after the last quotation mark (just add the statement you added in commandline.txt)
    (remember, i5 users: -availablevidmem 18.0 / i7 users: -availablevidmem 22.0)
It should look something like this:
Make sure to add space between " and -"
I hope This helps, although late cx
