Windows 7 Bootcamp

I just newly installed Windows 7 bootcamp on my MacBook Pro (2010). The installtion ran smoothly. But there seems to be a problem for me. The bootup time from being on to off or vice versa is 7 seconds flat.
And when I play games, my CPU usage would shoot up into the 80%-100%s making my screen freeze every 2 minutes, and typing anything onto a screen would take 2 seconds for my computer to compute.
Note: This was not the first time i install windows 7. The first time I did it, everything ran so smooth and fast. the bootup time would be at 2 seconds flat. no freezes when I play games or open anything up. How could I fix this?

Hi,
please see my answer in your other thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2596332&tstart=0

  • How do I share Mac music and photo files when in Windows Bootcamp mode?

I have a new iMac with a terabyte of storage that includes about 30 gigs each of iTunes music and jpg photos. I need to share them to the Windows Bootcamp environment so I can wirelessly stream to them to a DLink DSM 320 media server connected to an AV system located in another room. When in Bootcamp Windows the the 320 can "see" the Windows machine but cannot find any media.
So the question is, how do I share files between Mac and Windows when in Windows Bootcamp?
A better solution would be to directly connect the Dlink when in the Mac environment but I have not been able to find software to do that (the Dlink product is for PC only.) If anyone knows of such software that would be great too.

Windows needs third party software to see files on the MAC OS extended FS. I've heard MacDrive does this.

  • Creative Cloud on Mac OSX and Windows Bootcamp on the same machine.

    Hello,
I am looking into getting 3DStudio Max which is a Windows only program but will need to flip flop between 3DSM and Photoshop.  I am wondering, can I install my Adobe apps on both Operating Systems so that I can have them on my regular Mac OSX for normal work and in Windows Bootcamp for when I do 3D renderings?  I rather not use a Virtual Machine considering both of those programs are going to take a lot of RAM already.  Adding another program to that mix I feel will just overheat/slow down my machine.
Thank you for your thoughts and time,
    Sarah

that's interesting.  it may be a problem, but give it a try.
just open your bootcamp windows, navigate to https://creative.adobe.com/ and start downloading ps.  a cc desktop app will download to your bootcamp windows and hopefully you ps will work on your bootcamp windows.  i don't see any reason why it would stop working your mac, but that will count as your two installations so you will not be able to install on another computer.

  • Is it possible to get ReadWrite Mac HFS+ drivers for windows 7 so I can manage my Mac formatted Backups through windows bootcamp?

    Hello!
I was just curious if there was a driver or something I can install so that I can read and write my mac OSX formatted [HFS+] external drives in Windows 7,
using the windows file explorer [the equivalent for finder].
This is essential for me because I need the windows explorer copy/file transfer dialog box with all it's options and functionality.
Any suggestions relating either to windows bootcamp, or running windows through vmware fusion next to mountain lion [I would much prefer to be able to do this with VMWare Fusion, but either way is absolutely fine.]
I need this because I need to do HEAPS of file management,
and I find finder's file transfer / copy dialog box to be totally inadequate, hopeless and almost useless, [a nightmare in fact] next to the excellent functionality of Windows 7 file transfer dialog.
This has been my most hated issue with OSX for years now.
File management is a total nightmare in OSX.
I may make another post / feature request detailing my hatred of this lack of functionality, because it kills me every time I have to manage and backup large folders filled with lots of files and subfolders.
    Sorry for the end-rant.
Thanks so much for any help! (:

    Hello Alberto and Woodmeister50,
thank you for both your answers.
I have to try and remember to state things I have tried previously or am aware of; my bad!
    Alberto:
    Thanks for your ideas.
    I'm aware of ex-fat format.
Unfortunately, my external drives are quite full and a reformat or EXFAT partition is out of the question.
I'm formatted them OSX extended journaled a couple of years back before I was aware of exfat.
I could buy yet another drive, but I don't really want to do that until SSD's come down in price and expand in size.
[also, while not a big issue, I hear EXFAT can't handle files bigger than 4gb. Not that I have many such files, so that's not really a big concern].
So doing my file organization through windows explorer is, to my knowledge, the best option,
if it is possible. [I hope!]
This would be a perfectly satisfactory solution for me if I can use Windows Explorer through VMware to manage and organize the files and folder on my HFS+ external drives.
I'm not sure if paragon HFS+ or Macdrive allow you to use windows explorer to manage files?
Or only through their own file manager and dialogs?
A costly gamble if they do not, and if their file/folder transfer dialog also happens to be inadequate.
    Woodmeister :
    Thanks.
Actually, my problem is both HFS+ / windows compatibility AND that I hate finder
[the HFS problem being a result of the fact I hate finder]
I have tried Pathfinder [the demo version though, maybe it has limited functionality],
and I have found it's file transfer dialog / options / functionality to be very totally lacking as well.
    Others I have tried.
    Mac Explorer.
MoveAddict doesn't seem to work for me presently, although I hear it might be good.
Total finder is fantastic for other reasons but does nothing for the copy dialog.
Um.... there were a bunch of others I tried, but all no good.
So I guess my question is still the same, with a bit more specific information now
For a very in-depth review/analysis of the hatred of finder's lack of features in this area,
there are many threads on many forums, such as can be found if you google for the thread on this forum
GOOGLE : MacRumors OS X: how to merge folder contents, not replace
Please ignore the fact that some ex-windows people are just not used to the fact that "replace" in finder means to replace a whole folder, as this is not the issue.
The lack of functionality is, and there are many pages of mac-loving people complaining about it.

  • Disk repair failed after using osx with hibernated windows/bootcamp with macdrive

    hi,
i just realized i did something really, really stupid.
I forgot I just closed the lid of my MBP the last time I used windows/bootcamp (instead of shutting it down) and that triggered hibernation.
The next time I powered my MBP on, OSX startet automatically and I opened some of the same files that "were already open" in the hibernated windows (on osx main/boot partition, using macdrive in windows).
That (or resuming the hibernated windows later) probably led to some data corruption that prevents the osx volume from booting and neither the automatical repairing during booting nor disk utility (external hdd or recovery partition) is able to repair it. (not sure if there is any difference).
Booting in verbose mode shows the file names that were double-opened during repair attempts.
After booting osx from an external HDD, Disk utility fails mounting the main osx volume straight away, but succeeds with mounting it after a failed repair attempt.
I only have read acces then, though.
bootcamp partition is still working fine, btw
    1. I wonder if it is possible to gain write access somehow and if deleting just those "double-opened" files/the containing folder (which is saved on dropbox btw, so I really wouldnt mind deleting them/it) would solve the whole problem or if i really have to reformat everything and spend 10+ hours to revert everything to the state before the data corruption. ?
    2. if I have to reformat + reinstall, using migration assistant and the corrupted volume as source isn't a great idea, i guess? are there any options to exclude some specific folders of the user folders?
    3. will the bootcamp partition work after reinstalling osx or do i have to winclone-it somewhere? checkdisk says the volume is OK btw.
    many thanks!

Hi 3tc, thnx for a tip.
One more question - did procedure solve also "file already in use" problem on win bootcamp?
    thnx

  • Factory reset of a Windows (Bootcamp) partition

    Hi,
I just recently did a system recovery of my Mac OS X partition and imported only the User files because the system files had somehow become corrupted. I would like to do the same thing for my Bootcamp partition, but I am not sure of what program to use to erase the Bootcamp partition that would also allow me to access the Windows 7 recovery file. Do I use disk utility via the Mac partition or do I use the system configuration via the Windows 7 partition? I don't want to do a full backup and restore, but I want to do a partial one where I can get only the files that I really need back on.
    Thanks for your help,
    Stephen

If you erased and installed the MacintoshHD partition and restored that new and just your files, then you should be able to option/alt key boot into the Windows BootCamp partition like before which then you can backup files out of that to a external drive, then boot back into OS X and use the BootCamp Utiliy to remove the BootCamp Partition and start all over again with a fresh Windows install.
There is System Restore in Windows, type System Restore in the Windows Start Menu to go to it, it allows you to restore your Windows and installed Apps back to a earlier state, but keeps your files intact.
Then you Windows Update and check all your third party software and browser plugins for updates.
Then you update your anti-virus definitions and run a scan on the drive to detect malware on your users files and delete, restore those from backup.
There is the rare malware that really hoses a Windows machine so even System Restore doesn't work, but your supposed to use WinClone 3 in OS x to backup the BootCamp partition so it can be restored from OS X.
    So that's your options.

  • Problem with wi-fi in windows bootcamp

I have a problem with wif-i connection in my new MacBook Pro 15" with Mountain Lion. I installed bootcamp and windows and all OK, except that my wi-fi connection does not work properly in windows. The conection to internet is OK in Mountain Lion both with cable and wi-fi, and also with cable in windows bootcamp, but the wi-fi connection does not work. In the window information it seems that the computer connects to the router but not to the internet. I think that first days after intalling windows it was OK, but probably windows actualizations have changed something. If I disconnect the wifi network and reconnect again a message indicating connection to internet is shown during some seconds, but afterwards it disapear and the connection to internet is lost.
Some idea to fix the problem? Thank you

Did you download and install the Windows Support software? One of the first menu items when you ran Bootcamp Assistant was to download the support software. Then from within Windows you had to install the support software you downloaded. This support software includes the wifi drivers.

  • Will reinstalling OS X Tiger remove my windows bootcamp partition?

The header is all I want to know guys, im reinstalling OS X due to some probs with CrossOver and I just wanted to know what will happen to my windows bootcamp partition.
    Thanks in advance.
    - Jason

When you go to reinstall OS X, it will pull up the HD and ask you where to install it and you get to choose the partition. It will leave the Windows partition alone.
Now, if you choose to do a complete erase and install and instruct Disk Utility to erase the hard drive and remove all partitions - it will do just that.

TM doesn't back up Windows, did you not use a Windows backup program at all?
Good luck with removing the virus but I would suggest removing and reinstalling Windows

  • Imac os wont start but windows bootcamp still working fine

    Hi everyone,
My imac is around 4 years old and has been running both windows bootcamp and os x snow leopard for at least 3 years without any problems. My default operating system is mac and when I tried to turn it on this morning it gets stuck on the white screen with the grey apple icon and the loading icon spinning. Also a bar appears below this that I have never seen before.
I have tried opening the mac in recovery mode but it does not respond and goes to the same logo screen.
I have tried holding the 'D' key down while the mac comes on and doing the apple hardware test but once the window pops up it does not complete the probing and appears to freeze just before its completion.
I have also tried booting in safemode but the script stops at these commands:
launch tl: Please convert the following to launchd: etc/mach_init.d/dashboardadvisory.plist
    launch_msg(): socket is not connected
However, the windows bootcamp is working fine and I can access my mac files from there.
Also worth mentioning is that it is not a grey screen that appears on start up it is just the normal apple icon screen.
Tried both smc and pram resets but nothing changed.
Also when I the mac holding alt both the mac hd and windows disc are visible but obviously same problem happens when I click on mac from there.
Any advice or suggestions would be really appreciated! Thanks.

If you use the first Grey Disk and the 'C' key, can you boot into OSX and then your disks can be inspected.

  • If I reboot to Windows directly from Windows (bootcamp options), I cannot launch a vm in Hyper-V

    Hello guys,
If I reboot to Windows directly from Windows (bootcamp options) or press "option" key and select Windows after power on iMac, I cannot launch a vm in Hyper-V anymore (the Windows Phone 8 emulator to be precise). It says hardware virtualization is not enabled in BIOS.
When I boot Windows from OS X > Startup Disk > Boot Windows or boot OS X and reboot iMac and boot Windows after press "option" key and select Windows, I can launch a virtual machine in hyper-V, so that's cool.
    How it fix? Any ideas?
    iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), Windows 8.1, OS X 10.9-10.10
    Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5621

You should always use System Preferences -> Startup Disk. It enables the CSM-BIOS layer. When you use the Option Key, Windows will come up, but underlying CSM-BIOS layer is not invoked. The Hyper-V depends on BIOS settings, it will only work when using the Startup Disk option.

  • Loading Macintosh and Windows (Bootcamp)

I've got Bootcamp installed on my iMac and when I boot up my iMac I have to wait for the system to load up and switch to Windows (Bootcamp). I know there is way when booting up the iMac and holding down a few Keys on the keyboard you can choose which system you want to use, but some reason my Apple wireless keyboard doesn't let me do that method all the time (almost never).
So my question is, can you set up your boot up to let you choose which system (Macintosh or Windows) you would like use? Without holding down Keys on the keyboard.

Yes and no. In either OS, OS X or Windows, you can select the startup disk. That is in System Preferences, Strtup Disk, in OS X and in Control Panel, Boot Camp applet on Windows.
As far as a Full Time Boot Loader system like what is available on Windows PC where a screen comes up for a period of time that give you the option to select which Operating System to boot to before it goes to the Default OS I don't know of any for the Mac as the Mac EFI is LOCKED (Caps because it really is locked up by Apple) so no changes can be made to it. There was one a few years ago, Boot Picker, but has since been removed.
You only other option is to connect a USB keyboard to the system and use that for the Option/Alt key boot menu screen. Which is the Defacto Apple Mac boot loader.

  • APPLE mouse & keyboard not working with Windows (Bootcamp)

I installed Leopard and Windows XP on my Mac Pro. The installation went very smoothly. Only problem I have is that my Apple wireless keyboard and mouse do not work on Windows (frozen) although they work fine on Leopard. I tried a Logitech wireless trackball and it works fine on both Windows and Leopard. Any suggestion?

Thanks. I upgraded from Tiger and downloaded Bootcamp from Leopard Installation disc ( I did not have a beta version ). I then installed Windows XP SP2 ( brand new, just bought for that purpose ). Wonder if Mac wireless keyboard and mouse are compatible with Window. Everything else work beyond my expectation.
