Windows 7 Clean installation

Hello all,
Just got my new (and first) laptop. An X200 Tablet.
It came with windows Vista - 32BIT.
Since I'm using 4GB RAM, I want to upgrade to windows 7 64BIT.
There are many "Lenovo" applications, features and capabilities I want to keep on the tablet. Some of them are using even different partitions.
How shoud I start?
(I read the "Clean installation guide at Lenovo site, no word about those partition)

Jonathan
I was referring to an install on a clean hard drive. In my case on a T500 I used a different hard drive and saved my original with Vista in case I ever wanted to go back. In this case R&R won't install, it ends with a error code. Windows 7 Professional does have it's own backup program built in. If I ever have problems I'll probably reinstall everything anyway.
On the SL500 I used the upgrade disc to do a Custom install reformatting the C: partition only (backing up all important data to external hard drive) and I preserved the factory recovery partitions(Q&S) ending up with a D this way. R&R installed after installing Micrososft visual C ++ 2005. R&R will tell you what it needs.
I did mine with an OEM version of Windows 7 Professional I purchased. On it was the option to upgrade or do a custom install. Oems are supposedly to be used on only one computer whereas retail versions can be moved to a different computer.
I can't really remember about the bios for sure. I think there was an advisor tool to see if it was 64bit capable. I googled about 64bit and did what it recommended. Might have had something to do with Vitualization Technology.
I'm not sure about the partitions. I know it has something to with R&R and I believe someone else stated there is something to do with the built in DVD player on SL500 and T500 which you can't install a Lenovo update unless you have original. I got mine from the other hard drive with Vista (for the T500). As always do your own research also.
Hope this helps

  • Clean installation of windows 8.1 pro on Thinkpad e550 activation problems.

    I have installed a SSD hard drive and need a clean instalations of windows for development using multiple platforms.
    My plan was to have a tri-boot on three partitions on a mbr formated drive.
    -Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit;
    -WIndows 8.1 Pro 32bit, and;
    -WIndows 7 Ultimate 64bit using downgrade rights.
    The following steps were used:
    1. Switching the hard drive and cloning the oem copy to the first partition;
    2. Activate windows getting the OEM key from the system (so I had no hardware changes);
    3.Use the anytime upgrade in the system properties to upgrade to pro;
    4.Clone the windows 7 OS from the old PC and place in on a partion;
    5.Download both install media for windows 8.1 Pro from MS Creating Install media;
    6. Create media as detailed here;
    7. Modify the install to allow entry of key after install as shown here because pro license and oem keys where not acepted during install;
    8.Went to BIOS. Turned on Legacy and disable secure boot;
    9.Install Windows 8.1 both versions, and;
    10. Repair boot to load all three OS.
    Good, Now I have all three OS installed all working. However, The pro product key will not activate the windows 8.1 pro and the oem key won't be acepted saying it is the wrong version of windows.
    So called MS activation line and they say i need to contact the OEM for activation and downgrade keys for 7 even though i paid for the upgrade through the MS store and the product was already activated once on the system.
    Questions:
    1. How can i activate the Windows 8.1 pro via Lenovo?
    2. How can I activate the Windows 7 copy under downgrade rights with Windows 8.1 pro?
    3. Am i missing something with the UEFI/BIOS? (Note:I need to use mbr not GPT format on the drive.)
    I have switch the UEFI mode/duel modes during install without success.

    What VC are you using?
    I use VMWare Player (free) and use it to create virtual clients as needed.  Typically the virtual clients are "clean installs" from ISOs.  VMWare has it so well mechanized that there's not much to it.
    It's pretty quick and easy to install Player and give it a try.  Another advantage to that approach is that there's only a single OS at the top level and backups can capture the whole mess w/out having to deal with 2 or 3 different OSs and their partitions.

Reboot PC in Windows 8.1 without any DVD media inside, this time Windows 8.1 will be able to recognize the Bluetooth and install the respective drivers.
         Another way, install the latest release from Broadcom BTW_12.0.0.9820 from the following link:
                                                                            BTW_12.0.0.9820.zip
         directly in Windows 8.1. Remember if the software is uninstall the Bluetooth will be disabled and
         Windows will not be able to see the device in the “Device Manager”
    Last step, use your own Windows 8.1 Pro Key and Office 2013 key to register and activated your legal copy of the Microsoft software’s.
    Final, enjoy.

  • U310 Clean Windows 7 Installation

    I bought a U310 which suffers from a very slow Wifi perfomance. The problem seems to be know in this forum.
    Apart from that I'd prefer a clean Windows 7 installation without the "Lenovo overhead" and with my Win7 Professional liscence.
    I prepared a USB pen drive to be bootable and tried the setup from the stick. Somehow the Windows 7 setup does not seem to recognize any drives and partitions to install on. I guess I have to include the intel storage driver on my setup usb stick? But on the other hand, shouldn't the normal hdd (500 Gb) be recognizabe for the setup?
    In Windows storage manager, I see what I suppose is the 32GB SSD, but its only shown as 32GB.
    Any hints on how to be able to fully use the 32GB SSD and install Windows on it?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    the method described below is theoretical, I haven't tried it yet:
    if you want to use the SSD cahce for installing Windows on it, you have to break up the raid array on it. After that you should see unallocated space.
    If you don't want to use RapidStart, you can force delete the hibernation partition to gain extra 8GB space. (note: you have to disable it in the bios too)
    Then you sould download the Rapid Storage F6 drivers (x86 or x64, based on your future installation architecture) and copy it on the usb drive.
    During windows install, load the drivers from the disk. And install the system on the ssd cache drive.

  • Have Upgrade Graphic Card Driver, But Still Cannot Adjust Screen Brightness and Sleep Button Not Showing After Clean Installation of Windows 8.1

    I have done clean installation of Windows 8.1 on my HP Pavilion G4.
    Then I realize that I cannot put my computer on sleep mode and cannot adjust screen brightness.
    I understand that those problems caused by the graphic card driver.
    My computer is running on AMD Radeon HD 6400 series.
    Thus, I manually search on internet and found a latest graphic card update on microsoft site that is claimed compatible on windows 8.1 (link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/dn344644.aspx).
    I've upgraded it into the latest one. I've check on Device Manager, the driver is running well.
    But my problem did not solved!
    Please give me the solution!

    Hi,
    How about go to Device Manager, then uninstall Graphic driver and restart your computer, system will install its build in graphic drver. You can have a try.
    In addition, access to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Brightness and set its value to 100 for test.

    You can confirm whether or not these are malware by running a second malware app (Malwarebytes)  I suspect they are not and are just false positives
    Please download the free version of Malwarebytes.
    Update it immediately.
    Do a full system scan

  • No Sound after clean installation of windows 7 from Vista

    I had a problem with vista on my Hp dv6809wm laptop. My sound driver kept deleting itself and when I would do a system recovery it suddely worked again, but only for a short while. Eventually it stopped working entirely. Then my next step was an HP driver recovery, which also worked a couple times but then stopped. After a couple weeks I decided to purchase Windows 7 through my school and do a "clean" installation to wipe out everything and start fresh. Well when I finally got done, my sound still doesnt work, and im still getting the red x over the sound icon, I have no sound driver. HP support has no sound drivers for my computer for windows 7 or HP, only 3 for vista, I have tried them all and I get different error messages each time, usually saying driver not found (isnt that the point of downloading it?) or it will say cannot find media something. I have no idea what to do. Please help

    There is posibilily for hardware problem, broken sound chip in particular.
    Backup all of your data and try HP system recovery, choose factory installed setting.
    It will restored all software and drivers as "new" condition.
    If it does not fix the sound problem, 100% you have hardware problem.
    Installing Win7 wont fix it.

  • No headphone sound after Windows 7 clean installation

    Hello.
    I recently performed a clean installation of Windows 7 Home Premium. Before that on preinstalled Windows the problem described below did not show up, sound worked just great.
    Now I don't have sound when inserting my headphones in jack (built-in speakers work fine however). Windows reports that sound works, no problems found, but I hear nothing. On the same computer I have also Linux installed and the same headphones work well there in the same jack.
    When I put my headphones in, Realtek Manager makes notification that the device is plugged in.
    My model is Qosmio X775-3DV78. What I have tried so far:
    1) Reinstalling, updating, removing, trying different versions of Realtek HD Audio driver.
    2) Changing every possible setting in Realtek HD Audio Manager.
    3) Trying different headphones - same result: nothing.
    4) Changing settings in Playback Devices.
    Since it worked before reinstalling Windows and since it works on Linux on the same computer, there is definitely something wrong with my drivers. Could you please provide information as to what drivers exactly I should have installed to make sound work correctly? Maybe some motherboard driver is missing (though I installed everything important I could find on Toshiba site).
    Attached are some important screenshots. Please note that there are 2 unknown devices in my Device Manager and also USB Controller driver has problems, though I do not think it has any connection with the problem.
    * On both Playback Devices forms Disabled Devices and Disconnected Devices are shown.
    Thanks!
    UPDATE: One of "Unknown devices" proved to be Toshiba HDD Shock Sensor driver and another one is ACPI\TOS6205.

    I have just done the same upgrade to Windows7 and I have no sound from the headphone jack. Also when I plug into it, I don't get the old Realtek Audio evaluation screen for audio setup.
    However I do not use headphones, as I have been using a RCA jack to plug from the headphones output jack to
    a portilble shortwave radio that I have utilized the 6 inch woofer for the past three years since buying the laptop new, for better output and base sound from the radio speaker while simultaneously running the stereo built-in speakers on the laptop.
    Can someone tell me that I should just update the laptop audio card by re-installing the original Realtek Audio Driver? Is that easily accessible here in the official Toshiba site? Also if possible, please inform me of other driver updates that would most likely need re-installation processes after this Windows 7 update.
    Thank you for any info,

  • [Forum FAQ] How to show Windows Update in Control Panel in Clean Installation of Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 9926

    Scenario
    If you performed a clean installation of the new Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 9926, you would find Windows Update is only available in
    Settings and is hidden in Control Panel by default. However, Windows Update is still available in Control Panel if it is an upgrade version of Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 9926.
    Solution
    After the comparison of the two different version, the differences is the following registry:

    We’ve seen a few forum posts talking about changing registry keys to alter the update experience we shipped in Technical Preview build 9926. There are a couple of reasons that we don’t recommend doing things like that.
    First, the default experience is what we’ve tested across not just the Windows 10 team, but across all of Microsoft before we released it to you. That doesn’t mean that you won’t still find bugs, but it’s definitely the code that’s been most thoroughly
    tested. Changing things back to older versions is risky because the combination of those old settings with the rest of Windows 10 is not something that’s been validated or supported, so we can’t predict the side effects. It’s possible that changing registry
    settings related to update could cause a machine to no longer be able to get new updates or Technical Preview builds.
    The other reason to avoid changing the default update experience is that a lot of update-related code is actually being re-written in order to scale across the variety of different device types Windows 10 will support. Since Technical Previews are
    a work-in-progress, some code that may still be in build 9926 won’t actually ship in the final version of Windows 10 that we provide to all our customers, so trying to re-enable that code temporarily won’t provide a way to accurately assess Windows 10’s update
    capabilities.
    We want to hear your feedback! We’re sharing Technical Preview releases early so we can understand exactly how customers are using our software and make sure we are designing our experiences to address those scenarios. The more
    specific the feedback, the more helpful it is for us – saying “I hate the new Windows Update UI” isn’t very useful, but when we see “I need to be able to tell Windows Update to grab updates from WU itself and not from my internal corporate server, so the new
    Windows Update UI is painful for me”, we can actually understand what changes we could make to solve those specific problems. We can’t promise to fix everything that everyone asks for – and sometimes what one customer wants is exactly what another customer
    doesn’t want – but the more you can help us understand why you want something changed, the better we can try to meet those needs.
    Thanks for listening, and we look forward to hearing your responses.

    Thx it seems to work, i booted and press F11 and it opened, I can also check the recovery options in HP support assistant. At first i was skeptical because i read recovery manager but I dont have that program, but its very similar. Thx alot again !!! Now to back up my files b4 doing it ^^!!!

  • "Clean" Windows 7 installation

    Our firm will be buying a number of IdeaPad B590's for a 'team litigation' case and our requirement pretty much neccesitates a "clean" installation of Windows 7 Pro, (which also comes "pre-licensed' on these B590's in addition to Windows 8 Pro..).  Ordinarily (as we've done in the past), this might not be a problem since we'd simply 'swap out' the 320 GB disk that originally comes with these units and simply do a 'clean image' on an entirely new 60 GB SSD disk, but since there are no "COA" license stickers on these laptops, how can we 'redeem' the Windows 7 Pro licenses from these Ideapad B590's and 'activate' them properly?  Ideally, we need to avoid all other 'ancillary' software other than Windows 7, Office 2010/2013, our Norton internet Security protection, and the rather 'customized' professional software we use in team litigation.  Past experience has shown that it is more easily accommodated by simply doing a 'clean install' of Windows on a new hard disk (thus the SSD we want to install in this particular case) and allow nothing else in the way of software be to be installed during the term of this litigation.  At the end of this litigation case, the original SATA disk will be re-installed and these laptops will be 'redistributed' as the firm then decides how it will 'dispose' of these units.  My effort as IT manager for this case is simply as a 'total cost managment' effort as it pertains to this purchase, as well as the time and effort to accomplish the task, which is also a determining factor.
    I'd prefer these Levovo B590's overe the Dell systems the senior partner is suggesting, but then ... the Dell i3's do come with Win7 Pro "COA"  stickers, so ... just need a way to accomplish this task ASAP.

    Hi,
    I haven't dealt with this myself.  Have a look at this thread and the included links.  It sounds like there's a way to do this without a CoA sticker.  You'll use any CoA, then use a call-in activation procedure.  At least, that's the way I read it.

  • Satellite L500-128 - Clean installation of Windows 7 64bit

    hello guys. I want to make some questions
    I have windows vista in my laptop and I want to make a clean installation with windows 7 64 bit. I have seen that drivers are ok in the site. So here are my questions
    a) should i delete the hidden recovery partition or not? (eisa config if i remember correct)
    b) I have taken 4 dvds with toshiba recovery disc creator. If I erase every partition in the laptop how can I restore my DVDs? With a programme in Windows or just setting bios to boot from dvds and then the procedure is automatic? Is the first dvd bootable?
    thanks in advance and sorry for my english

    Hi buddy,
    > so the disks i took backup what is it?
    I assume you mean the Toshbia recovery disk. Right?
    If yes this disk contains an image of factory settings. That means if you use this disk and install it, you have the same settings as you purchased it. So its called recovery disk / factory settings.
    The recovery disk will always work. You can create 10 partition and/or install Linux. The recovery disk will always work and restore factory settings. With this disk you are on the safely side. :)
    Furthermore the recovery disk doesnt contain programs that you have installed yourself. You can install what you want but the content on recovery disk is always the same.
    > so where is the partition that the toshiba programme made backup???
    To be honest this question isnt clear and detailed.
    Generally the installed programs from Toshiba dont create a backup autmatically.
    If you mean the HDD recovery option, the folder with this content and files is stored on the second partition in folder HDDrecovery. As I already wrote, the files are always the same and have nothing to do with the programs that you install. If you delete this folder, you cant use the HDD recovery option anymore.
    And Windows recovery environment has nothing to do with Toshiba. You will find this feature on all Vista and Windows 7 computers. But both versions are completely different.
    Last but not least if you want to create a backup of your current settings with all installed applications, tools, etc. you have to use an additional backup software like Acronis True Image. It creates also an image but of your current settings. ;)

  • Windows 8 installation - Upgrade Assistant compatibility Issue - Bluetooth Win7 Suite

    Having procured an on-line download of Windows 8, from the Microsoft web site, I am a little concerned about an incompatibility identified by the Microsoft
     Upgrade Assistant; namely:-
     "Bluetooth Win7 Suite (64) - Atheros Communications"
    This incompatibility was identified after restoration of an original copy of the Windows 7 operating system, as installed by the manufacturer of my PC! (Recovered from an Acronis image).
    That is, the operating system, prior to installation of any personal software, or external hardware, or divers!
    Hence, I can only assume, that "Bluetooth Win7 Suite (64)" is a sub component of one of the original components of the computer:
    ASUS P8Z68-V LE Motherboard
    NVIDIA Quadro 600 1024MB Professional Video Card
    Intel  i7 2600K Processor (3.4 GHz - no over-clocking)
    16GB Corsair PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 Memory (4x4 GB sticks)
    Qty 2 Sony 24x DVD-RW drives
    Qty 2 120GB Corsair Force 3 SSD (No Raid)
    Qty 1 1000GB 7200 HDD
    Onboard High Definition Audio
    My plan was to perform a clean installation of Windows 8, but I have no understanding what the implications of this incompatibility will be!
    Namely, what the function of  Bluetooth Win7 Suite (64), is! And what hardware it is associated with!
    Whether a clean installation will work, without  Bluetooth Win7 Suite (64)
    Whether Windows 8 install will have onboard drivers, for all of the above hardware!
    After installation of Windows 8, and installation of the manufactures latest drivers, for the Motherboard and Video Card, will I have to search elsewhere
    for a driver for the Bluetooth Win7 Suite (64)
    I would appreciate any advice on this matter!
    Brian

    Hi,
    Based on my research, it seems that Bluetooth Win7 Suite (64) is a program developed by Atheros Communications.
    So, do you have any Bluetooth device? Did you install it?
    Please also check if it lists in Programs and Features.
    However, if you do not have any Bluetooth device or you do not use this program, in my opinion, it will not affect the installation of Windows 8.
    Hope this helps.
