Windows 7 computer will not find Time Capsule using Airport Utility.

I have a wireless network already setup. However, I have bought the Time Capsule to put in my home office, where it is acting as a hub to get access to three different printers. I have already setup our iMac and Macbook to get access, and they work fine. however, the Windows 7 laptop just does not even find the Time Capsule. I have updated the Airport Utility software, rebooted the time capsule, and even tried connecting directly using an ethernet cable, and nothing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for trying to help me out, but, I have solved the issue on my own. The issue is, firewalls. if you have windows firewall, or any other firewall installed it blocks the communication. I simply turned off the firewall, it recognized the time capsule, I configured it, and then turned the firewall back on, and it kept the connection because the port was now open. All is good now.

IPhone will not find Time Capsule Wifi network?

recently updated my phone to the latest and greatest, but now it will not find my Time Capsule wifi network... even when standing right next to the capsule itself.
this does not seem to be a problem with an old base station... just the time capsule has disappeared off of the phone's network list. my macbook pro and apple tv continue to function normally... only the phone that is acting up.
anyone have any ideas?

No immediate thoughts other than when I synced my iPhone with my Mac, which was set up to connect to the TC, the iPhone seems to be configured with all the right settings as if they had migrated across.
Perhaps try a resync ?

Unable to find Time Capsule in Airport Utility after several rescans

Hi all,
I just bought the latest 2GB Time Capsule last year and initially was able to connect it as a external hard drive to my wifi router.
However, I moved address this month and changed the name of my wifi. Probably the IP addresses were also changed.
I am trying to connect it to my wifi via Airport Utility however, even after several clicks on "Rescan", I am unable to detect the Time Capsule.
The manual setup and Update buttons are also disabled in the Airport Utility.
I tried to connect my Time Capsule to my Macbook via Ethernet but still the "TC drive" does not appear.
How can I change the wifi settings in my TC if I can't even detect it?
Please take note that I am not using my Time Capsule as a router but as a hard drive connecting to my dlink router.

You will need to perform a Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule to get it back to original settings so that you can reconfigure to work with the D-Link router. The reset will not affect your backups.

Can't find Time Capsule with Airport Utility on ethernet but can on configure other.

OS X 10.8.4, 24" iMac,TC 1st generation, Airport Utility 6.3 or 5.6, TC Firmware was 7.6.3 downgraded to 7.6.1(no effect), reinstalled OS X 10.8.4, have done a factory reset of TC, TC is visible to finder and Time Machine, both work fine. Internet works fine. Wireless works fine.
Airport Utility on Macbook Pro with the same software sees it fine, no problems.
Please! Any suggestions?

How does one set up remote access via the internet to access files stored on the Time Capsule using airport utility 6.1

I was just wondering if anyone can provide me with instructions please on how to set up remote access via the internet to the time capsule when away from home?

I have checked that the firmware has been updated to 7.6.4 . Similalrly the Win8.1 machine has been loaded with the update specified in another discussion.

Firstly how are you connecting to the TC.. wireless or ethernet?
Please open a command window and ping it.. ping by name and by IP address.
If ping succeeds at least by IP it should work.
In windows explorer type
\\10.0.1.1 (or whatever the TC ip is.. that is the default).
Having the airport utility for windows loaded can help the process. As it loads bonjour for windows.
7.6.4 firmware on the TC is useless. It works better on 7.6.1
If the ping does not succeed by either name or IP address yet you have internet through the TC, then your network is setup wrongly. You are have firewalls blocking local IP. Take down all the firewalls.

Are you using a new 802.11ac Time Capsule - the "tall" one - and are you still using Mac OS X 10.6.8?
You need OS X 10.7.5 "Lion" or later, or an iOS device, to configure an 802.11ac Time Capsule:

Time machine does not find time capsule

Need more info, but the first step is a simple reboot of the TC. ie pull out the power .. count to 10.. plug in power.
If that is no good, try a full network restart in correct order.. from off.. restart, modem.. wait 2min.. restart TC.. wait 2min.. restart clients.
If the TC fails to show up in the computer, you will need to give more info.
What OS?
What modem.. make and model?? How is the TC connected to it?
What mode is the TC in, bridge or router?
If you are using wireless try ethernet.
Especially try doing a full factory reset if none of the above work. Do the setup of the TC and the backup in full network isolation. Just computer and TC with ethernet.

Time Capsule and AirPort Utility Version 5.3

I just got my time capsule and it says to use Airport Utility Version 5.3. I installed the time capsule using the enclosed CD and also did a software update. but I am still at 5.2.2. How do I get version 5.3? Why was it not included with the Time Capsule?

Yes I installed it - but it still says 5.2.2 Even though the installer talks about 5.3 and says its easy to set up, if I look at "about airport utility" after the installation it still says 5.2.2. Any idea?

Windows 7 airport utility will not detect time capsule

Hi, I have a current generation time capsule and I am having problems connecting to my Windows 7 home premium PC. The time capsule connects and works perfectly using my Macbook. My set up is this: DSL router conected to the time capsule via ethernet cable. I can get the time capsule to pick up wireless and connect to my PC, but upon opening the airport utility it will not detect the time capsule at all. I have trolled the internet for about 3 hours trynig various things, none of which have worked. Has anyone had this issue and resolved it?

The airport utility has nothing whatever to do with disk access.
It helps having bonjour available in the computer. And the utility should be able to bring up TC setup.. although as noted.. apple have already bypassed windows as it is too old. The new TC requires v6 utility.. the version for windows is 5.
None of that is relevant to opening the TC hard disk.
-If this is not the case, can you please advise on how to access the storage on a windows 7 PC
Did you follow the instructions from my previous post.
Open your windows explorer and type into the address bar,
\\TCname or \\TCIPaddress
Where you replace TCname with the actual name of the TC.. your nice new short SMB compatible name.
Or use the IP address of the LAN on the TC.. by default 10.0.1.1
If you did this and it failed, you need to ping the TC by name and by IP address from command window..
Does the TC respond to pings??
If so it should be able to open the TC disk.. but you will probably have to use the IP address not the name which is likely illegal.
I also mentioned the issue of SMB names..
Please tell me what is the name of your TC as you set it up in the Mac..
Does it look like this.

If so it is too long.. it has spaces and it has an illegal character.. from windows the name should be short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Please reset the TC to factory and start again.. you can use the airport utility in the Mac.
Do not use apple suggested names.. which are WRONG.
Use names like TCgen5
And for wireless TCwifi
Then try again with the windows.
If you continue to have issues, try using ethernet to the computer from the TC instead of wireless.
Make sure ipv6 is on and set to link-local or the PC equivalent of that.. I will need to look that up.

URGENT: Deleting file on Mac will not delete Time Capsule copy?

Hi, I seem to have run out of disk space on my iMac, and my Time Capsule (2 TB, latest model) was supposed to be my solution, however: Seeing as Time Capsule takes "snapshots" and so on, will deleting a file from my computer also delete it at the next Time machine backup, or will it be safely stored in my Time Capsule ((I know Time Capsule also deletes the oldest backup "snapshots", but that´s only when it gets full, right? Any idea how to prevent this, as well))?

TM can at any time delete the file.. Eventually it will note that the file is missing and delete it from the backup.
Use another utility.. CCC, Chronosync..
Better still copy the files to the TC.
Simply drag and drop them to a new folder .. not inside the backup.
Big fat ugly BUTT... you then have but one copy of the file.. one day the TC will die..wipe itself, hdd crash.. you will have no backup. TM cannot backup a network drive.. TC is a backup device.. it cannot back itself up.
Think long and hard where you are going to move stuff.
In an imac as a desktop computer, buy external drive.. FW800 or Thunderbolt much preferred and faster than USB. Use external to provide extra space and TM can then do what it is best at.. backing up.. and TC can store backups as it is designed to.

Why can I not find Time Capsule as a wired hard drive?

TC airport turned off. Set up as using Ethernet cable from iMac directly to LAN port of TC. TC status light solid green. When I go to Time Machine to use TC as backup drive, the TC does not show up as available and I am not able to turn on Time Machine. I just want to use the TC as a wired hard drive for backup of my iMac - nothing else. What am I doing wrong. Any help appreciated.

I use the Uverse wireless router, but am not able to hook TC up to it by Ethernet.
Is it not possible physically, or are you saying that you had problems when you tried to connect it this way before? If the latter, my guess would be that the Time Capsule was not configured as a "bridge" on the network.
Please try the following setup, which I have verified by helping a neighbor last week who also has Uverse. I assume that your Uverse router has 3-4 ethernet ports on the back.
Connect an ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN ports on the Time Capsule. Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Wireless Mode = Off
Click the Internet icon
Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Update to save settings and now connect an ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports on the Uverse router and the WAN (circle icon) port on the Time Capsule.
Restart both the Uverse and Time Capsule.
This should allow you to perform backups over the Uverse wireless network and also provide the option for you to plug an ethernet cable in from your computer to the Time Capsule if you want to use ethernet to back up.
You will need to open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock and then open Time Machine. Click Select Disk and your Time Capsule should appear as a destination for backups. Click Use for Backups.

Time Machine will not backup Time Capsule drive

I was filling up my time capsule so I bought a new 2GB drive for my backups. It is attached as an air disk on the Time Capsule as I also use it to backup other computers in the house.
My problem is that I am now using the HDD in the time capsule for my iTunes and iPhoto library, so that they can also be shared, but they are not being backed up by TM.
I have checked my excluded drives list and the Time Capsule drive isn't in there.
Any ideas/help/advice on how to get the time capsule backed up too?

Sorry, but Time Machine will not backup a network drive (i.e. TC's HDD or any USB HDD attached to the TC). It can backup TO a NAS such as TC or a USB HDD attached to the TC. You can transfer your music to another external HDD that is connected directly to a Leopard-loaded Mac and TM can backup that up to TC/HDD attached to a TC.

I have atiem machine that I have used for several years -
Bought a new MacBook pro / installed Lion -
When I went to set up Time MAchine it sees the Time Capsule - but I am not allowed to read or write as I get the message that says I don't ahve permission.
Have gone in and reset the pass word for the Time Capsule and for the Net work - but this has not changed
I can see the Tiem Capsule on the network and can open it up on my desk top - but I cna not set up Tiem MAchine as I get the "No Permission message'

The backups might be corrupted. Try to Repair them, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
