Windows 7 Connect Parallel Printer to laptop USB - Anyone successful?

I want to connect my Deskjet 722C parallel port printer to my new Windows 7 laptop USB port. Has anyone successfully connected an old HP parallel port printer to a Windows 7 computer. If so, what cable did you use and what did you have to do to make it work? The other posts don't seem to be for Windows 7 and also seem to indicate problems in general. Apparently it is not as simple as connecting a cable.

There are two possible issues here. First, if you are using the 64 bit version of Windows 7 you will need to apply the patch here. There is a bug in the supplied driver that causes the spooler to crash in x64 versions of Vista or Windows 7, the patch corrects that issue.
Second, as mentioned above the USB-parallel converter cables can be problematic. Make sure the model you have is supported in Windows 7. The links here have posts where folks have models of converters successfully used with Windows 7.

iOS devices use AirPrint to connect to a supported printer. OS X will use Bonjour to locate and connect to the same printer.
With the Epson connected to your wireless router, when you open Print & Scan and click the plus button to add, does the Epson appear in a small box with a heading of Nearby Printers?
If not and a window appears showing Default, Fax, IP and Windows in the toolbar, do you see the Epson with the Default view selected?

Windows cannot connect to printer. 0x00...2

I work in a Domain environment where we have hundreds of printers on about a Dozen Print Servers. Some are 2003 and others are 2008. The Server I'm working with is 2003. The client work stations are Windows 7. We have several printers not mapping to the
designated clients. All installation of printers are controlled via scripts through GPO and based on what security group they belong in.
As far as I can see the computers are in the proper AD security group. But as students and staff log into the desktops, none of the printers show up. And when I try to manually connect the printer by going to the UNC path \\XXX-XX\printer_name it gives me
the "Windows cannot connect to printer"..... with a code of 0x00...2 (there are a bunch of zeros in there).
Now we have other printers that are mapped and are available to everyone. Its just those that are connected via a security group. So if a machine is in Room 123 and in the 123 group, they should get a color printer and a B&W printer for that room.
For some reason the color printer is not showing up, but the B&W is. Outside that group, other teachers can connect via their laptop, or other desktop. But All the computers that the students use, cannot map the printer.
I've tried the registry fix to clear drivers, I've renamed the "3" folder and that didn't work. I've tried applying Hotfixes but the ones I was given stated that they were designed for my version of windows. Even though the fix was for Windows
7.
I'm getting frustrated. Simple Printer 101 tricks aren't working. I think this is a level up higher and could be script or Domain related. Any thoughts?

If the printer driver uses color profiles, make sure the color profile files are installed on the machine. Including the print driver name and where you got the driver might be useful.

Windows 8.1 x64, HP 4050 printer and Parallel Printer Adapter to USB

The laptop is windows 8.1 x64 Toshiba brand laptop. The printer is an older, excellent condition HP 4050 printer.The connector is a Parallel Printer to USB Adapter. The problem: Drivers install fine, however when I connect the printer to the laptop via usb port, the laptop cant find the printer. I have down loaded the drivers several times, and deinstalled/rebooted/reinstalled many times.I have changed the USB port to the known working mouse port and get the same result.I have bought new parallel printer wireI have verified all connections (should have put that first)I have read through many forums looking for any help. What its not doing is finding the printer. Anyone?

How can i connect the printer without a usb?

I have recently changed my internet provider and have tried to reinstall the printer software but it wont find the printer and says that i need a usb cable which i dont have. Can i connect the printer without one? Its a photosmart all-in-one c4380 printer.

Have no idea, no model number of printer. You can always buy a USB Printer cable.

Connecting new printer to laptop by wireless network

Followed the installation procedure from HP laptop with successful diagnostic results but could not get it to work from 'print' instruction from laptop.Checking the computer settings it shows an HPenvy 5530 driver (offline) with my two jobs requested today in a queue.Where have I gone wrong?

First we'll need to refresh some connections.Turn the printer off.While the printer is turned off unplug your router for one minute.Once you have internet connection again turn the printer on.Now we'll need to clear that old print queue and add a new one.Close all of the programs you have open.Open your Control Panel.Go to Printers and Scanners.In this window right click on the Envy 5530.Left click on Remove Device.Repeat for any other printers listed.Now click on Add a Printer at the top.Select your printer and click on next.Follow the pompts to install the driver.Try printing.Let me know how this works. Connecting network Printer to laptops via wireless

My daughter received a new Toshiba laptop for Christmas to help with her school work and I have been working to get it setup. I have nearly everything working fine including a network connection for internet through my network router, but I am having difficulty with connecting the laptop to my network printer. I have a Belkin F7D3302 v1 wireless router that serves as my network router and this Belkin router is connected via an ethernet cable to my desktop and the router is also connected wirelessly to my Alienware laptop (both run Windows 7) - I have full connectivity with both of these computers and no printing issues - I also have an older Sont Vaio laptop that runs Windows XP SP3 - it is also connected wirelessly to the network and I can print from this computer without any problem. I went into my daughter's computer to install the printer and although it found the printer the TEST PAGE would not print and the computer shows the printer as being offline. I did do a look at the Network Config on the printer and it shows the IP address as all zeros which I found odd, but my Alienware and Sony are conected so I should be able to get my daughters laptop to connect. Any help would be appreciated to get my daughters laptop connected to the printer

I have rebooted the laptop multiple times while using HP Scan and Print doctor, but to no avail. I am baffled largely because the ISP service connected between the Belkin router and the laptop without any difficulties and although when I click on Add Printer it shows the network printer it shows the status as offline continuously - when i try to start the HP software direct on the laptop (I installed the original HP software to the laptop) it says it cannot start because the printer has not finished installing. I am guessing it is either a Win 8.1 issue of some sort.

Connecting parallel printer to Macbook

Connected an Epson ActionLaser 1500 to the Macbook using a Belkin Parallel-to-USB cable; chose the ActionLaser 1100 driver since the 1500 driver didn't show in the driver list. Everything worked fine until a few weeks ago. Now I get a "printer is offline" message; can't print from any application. I've deleted & reinstalled and changed the Belkin cable -- no luck. I suspect some upgrade caused the problem, but don't know what to do about it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

See the post from Matt Broughton a few posts down the list. "usbtb" is an alternate USB print driver that should help with USB-parallel adapter problems.

Hi people....I'm trying to set up our old, trusty Laserjet 5P with our new G70 using a USB to parallel cable, but to no avail. Any ideas on how to configure this odd couple so that they can live and work in harmony? My wife would rather lose me than have to give up her printer.

In addition to the printer driver shich you have installed you may also need a driver for the USB to parallel converter. The other thing I would check would be the port settings, the converter may provide an emulated LPT1: port, but it may be a different port. Make sure you are using the correct port.

Can i connect a printer to the usb port on airport express

I've setup my Airport Express 802.11n with my HP Deskjet D2600 series printer, reset, reconfigured, etc. but it is still saying "Printer is offline" when I try to print. What am I missing?

Hi, this computer works fine with Ubuntu (10.10, Unity makes it a dog ), unusably slow with Vista, and who knows about Win7.
If you have successfully added more RAM than the 2gigs which supposedly is the max, let me know how it went. 4 gigs would make things so much better.

If you have not already done so, your chances will really improve if you....
1) Connect the printer to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme
2) Download and install Bonjour Print Services for Windows on the PC

Cannot print on a USB printer with Java PrintService in Windows 2000. Why?

I want to print a simple ASCII file on a USB printer under Win2K and
found 2 problems. Here is the 2nd one.
Even though
PrintServiceLookup.lookupPrintServices(<DocFlavor>, <AttributeSet>)
returns nothing when I specify any AttributeSet, I can still print on the default printer, which I get by
PrintService defServicedefService = PrintServiceLookup.lookupDefaultPrintService();
but only on a parallel printer (HP Laserjet 4 Plus), either directly attached or over the network. When I try the very same code on a locally USB-attached printer, the printer is obviously reacting, but nothing is printed.
In case of a Lexmark 730 (an ink printer), the driver even lies, it has printed 100%,
on a Samsung CLP-510 (a color laser) the ready light flashes twice, that's all.
The file to be printed has 5 lines and a "0C"X at the end in order to force a page eject at the end.
I tried it with JDK 1.4.2 and with Java 6, same problem.
I should mention that I can print that little file out of the editor Textpad without any problem.

I used BasicPrint.java and PrintJobWatcher.java of the samples for testing.
Printing a GIF file works both to a parallel printer and a USB printer.
Then I changed only the DocFlavor from DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.GIF to DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.AUTOSENSE, and that one works with my parallel printer, but on the USB printer the Ready light flashes twice, that's all.
The ASCII file must have a "0C"X at the end to force a page eject on the parallel printer
Maybe it is a matter of the DocFlavor, but which one?
DocFlavor("application/octet-stream", "java.io.InputStream") works like DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.AUTOSENSE.
DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.TEXT_PLAIN_HOST and DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.TEXT_HTML_US_ASCII cause sun.print.PrintJobFlavorException, and with DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.TEXT_PLAIN_US_ASCII just nothing happens on either printer, not even an error message.
I am getting the impression that nobody of the developers ever cared for testing such a simple thing as a plain ASCII file under Windows.
My printers I am using for the tests are
1. an old parallel-attached HP Laserjet 4 Plus and
2. a borrowed USB-attached Samsung CLP-510 color laser
