Windows 7 display resolution problem on iMac 27"

Hi, I have an iMac 27" that is running bootcamp with Windows 7.  The resolution on the OS X is fine, but on the Windows 7 side, it is messed up.  The display resolution choices make the screen look all stretched and weird; I cannot select the same resolution as I have on the OSX side.  The display drivers say that they are generic, so I tried installing manufactuer's drivers.  That did not work since they couldn't detect the correct monitor.  I've run software update on he Mac OSX side, but to no avail.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  Thanks!

updates for osx will not affect windows
in osx one can make a packet with all drivers required for bootcamp windows do that
and if you need drivers for windows download the mobile version what amd/ati and nvidia call desktop videocards
are not the type used in imacs they use the laptop versions

  • Is anyone experience display resolution problems on MBP15"I7 after OS Lion install?

I installed OS Lion on my MacBook pro 15" one week ago. I have installed the 10.7.1 update. Like many, I have experienced a dramatic slowdown in performance  - Aperture is now unusable. My most immediate problem is that the display has lost its sharpness - I have tried all the resolution options in System preferences/displays. Non of the  options available on display resolution allow the diplay to align to the screen paramenters and all leave the text and graphics slightly unfocussed. Is this a common problem, and are there solutions out there? Many thanks.

  • External Display resolution problem after resetting PRAM

Gello, I've got Fujitsu-Siemens P19-2 monitor hooked up to my MbookPro and after resetting PRAM the correct display resolution disappeared from the "Displays" menu in System PReferences.
So did the refresh rate option...
    What do I do?
I really need to change the refresh rate and the resolution, but the refresh rate button is grey and unclickable, and the resolution simply isn't there (I need 1280x1024).
REsetting PRAM and SMC didn't help.

After a couple of resets everything went back to normal

  • Display resolution problem with Lightroom 5 on a laptop

I installed Lightroom 5 on my older Lenovo laptop with 12080x768 native screen resolution.  This meets the minimum display requirements, BUT... When I open Lightroom and try to set up preferences, the lower part of the preferences window is displayed off the bottom of the screen and I am unable to move it up to make changes.  This problem occurs with other Lightroom windows also.  So I can not use Lightroom 5 on this laptop.  Any idea how to solve the problem?

as long as your computer meets lr5's specs, no.

  • 10.8.3 display resolution problem

Heya. My monitor resolution has been working fine on my mid 2010 MacMini without any problems since 2010.
Since the 10.8.3 update my screen resolution keeps resetting itself to 800 x 600 after waking from sleep. When I go to the Displays system pref there is a (new to me at least) option 'Best for Display' that is selected. When I select the Scaled option my monitor resolution (1680 x 1050, which i have been using successfully for years) is not listed.
I have tried the following steps:
    1. Using the monitor's Auto/Set button to re-set the resolution
    2. Reset the system PRAM
At this stage the only way to get the monitor resolution back is to restart the machine.
    Specs:
Mid 2010 MacMini (2.4GHz Intel Core Duo)
    NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256MB
    4Gb RAM
    LG Flatron W2242S 23" monitor
Connected to Mac via VGA adaptor into Display Port.
Any thoughts would be gratefully received, thanks
    Mark

I found a fix. If your desired monitor resolution isn't available, hold the Option button in the Displays prefs and a 'Detect Displays' button magically appears at the bottom right of the window (by the ? button). This gave me the 1680x1050 resolution that I needed.
Not sure exactly why you need to press to Option button for Detect Displays to appear, but there you go!

  • Macbook Pro 13 inch & External Display - resolution problem

    Hi
I'm trying to connect my macbook pro 13inch to an NEC 26' Multisync display - which has a native resolution of 1900 x 1200 - and when connected to a PC this is what I get. When I connect the mac though the top resolution is 1900 x 1080 - so the display is distorted.
I've tried finding diplay drivers for the monitor and graphics card without success. Apparently the GEForce 9400 graphics in the macbook can output up to 2500 x 1600.
I'm wondering if it's the connection method - I'm using the mini display to VGA adapter that I got with the macbook. Do I need to use the alternative adapter - the mini display port to DVI adapter? Seems this is needed for connection to 'advanced' displays. Will this make any difference or is it that the macbook 13 inch can't output to a 26in display?
Any advice or assistance will be greatly appreciated
    Many Thanks
    Tim Gundry

I would get the DVI regardless.
Your taking a digital signal from the macbook, converting to to anolage VGA, and the the monitor is converting it back to digital again to display on the screen.
DVI will make it direct digital to digital.
Plus, because DVI is digital, is passes resolution information. So you should get your native resolution no problem.

  • Windows Display Driver Problem.. Please Help!!

    Hi,
I get a blue screen with this message..
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
The problem seems to be caused by the following file: ati2dvag
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates problems with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly.

The computer is fine just browsing the internet for example, but if I use a CAD package it will crash. Today it crashed just opening a Word document..
The OS is Windows XP SP2 installed on a 24" Intel Imac.
I've also installed the latest drivers from this link:

Note crashing happened before I installed these drivers too.
Graphics card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT
    Any help would be great!

If you are running Windows using Boot Camp I'd recommend re-posting in the Boot Camp forum. You can find that forum at:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=237
If you are running Windows using Parallels or Fusion then you should post there.
I would think your chances of finding your answer would be with those that are running Windows.

  • Display resolution problem

For some reason I can't adjust the screen resolution so that the display doesn't look so pixilated. I have the display setting to the "recommended" and highest ratio 1280 x 800.  But images still don't look smooth but pixilated as though I am using reduced resolution. I have checked to make sure my display driver is up-to-date too.
    Thanks!

  • Display Resolution problems

I have a 17" MacBook pro with Lion on it as of 3 days ago. Been working fine until I connected my 30" display to it. When I connected it, the display went all wonky. I rebooted, disconnected, many combination of each. Now my MBP will not even display at full resolution when disconnected from the external monitor. Scoured this forum and the internet for similar problems, and while I found multiple issues relating to displays with a Lion upgrade, I did not see any issues specifically with screen resolution.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Capt,
Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately not the solution. I have the two screens in extend mode, and both at max resolution (2560x1600 for the 30" and 1920x1200 for the laptop display).
It seems the computer is having difficulties fitting the screen onto the monitor, like it does when you select a resolution that is too large for your monitor. The entire screen is being rendered, but I have to pan right and down to see the whole thing. When I have the external display connected (as main screen), I can see part of it on the laptop display. So the rendering is working... it just cant display at the correct resolution.

  • Display resolution problems with Snow Leopard

I have a 'PC' monitor that when using Leopard worked with the correct resolution at the correct proportions (I'm after 1400 x 960) but since I've installed Snow Leopard that resolution is only available intermittently. I've just switched my Mac on this morning an it's reverted to 800x600.
I don't really want to mess around with apps like SwitchRes, for fear of messing it all up.

Having problems connecting iMac(late 2006) running 10.7.5 to a Samsung Flat Screen TV using separate audio/speaker cable and HDMI standard cable, mini-DVI to HDMI video converter.  TV displays generic Apple galaxy background and "some" windows (e.g. screen resolution choices).   It does not show Mail or Safari menus.  System preferences'  display "gathered" the Samsung and chose its resolution.  I did not find a way to select the Samsung as my display.
In addition to having old hardware, we have Verizon FIOS providing internet and TV access.  Is there any way to make this work for us?  We would like to stream video (Netflix) and view shows from the Web.  Do we need Apple TV to do this?  Or is it not possible with our old iMac?  My husband thinks that our Airport could be a factor.
    Thank you

Lately, I have been seeing a lot of posts with users trying to use their Macs/iMacs to mirror their streaming video from their Macs to an HDTV.
There are, actually, many alternatives to choose from than just from a Mac.
You need to have or invest in a WiFi capable router for all of these examples.
Apple TV only integrates with WiFi and newer Mac hardware. So, if you want to have total integrated experience, if you have a 2011 Mac or newer, you might as well pay the $100 for the AppleTV box.
If you have a older Mac, like I have noticed many users do, then you have other options.
If you want to elimate long cable clutter and having your Mac at the mercy of your TV all of the time,  you can still use the AppleTV box independently or purchase cheaper alternative media streaming boxes from Roku, Sony, Boxee or any number of electronics manufacturers that now have media streaming boxes and media streaming capability built into DVD/Blu-ray players.
These eliminate long cable clutter by being close to the HDTV where shorter, less expensive cables can be used.
Another alternative for iPad users is to use an iPad with the USB/HDMI video adapter and use your iPad as the streaming box. This ties up your iPad in much the same way as it does with your Mac, but again the iPad can be close to the TV and use minimal cables to the TV.
Another alternative to is to use a combination of an iPad and your Mac to stream content that is only available to stream online from a computer. In this case, you can use a desktop remote app on your iPad and Mac. A good and cheap Desktop Remote app is Splashtop Remote. This allows you to completely connect your iPad remotely, over Wifi, to your iMac desktop. The app streams both video and sound to the iPad which is still connected to your HDTV. The resultant stream video picture will be smaller than the size of your HDTV, but it will still be plenty large enough to watch. Again, if you own a iPad and an Intel Mac, this method also allows minimal cabling to the TV.
