Windows 7 do i need an install

I have just recieved a new mac with OS Lion do i need an instalation disc to load windows 7

Not all that difficult. But you do need to be careful at one particular point (formatting the Boot Camp partition).
1. Use Boot Camp to create a partition for Windows to be installed on. It can be part of the drive OS X is on, part of another drive, or you can devote an entire separate drive to Windows. You are asked this at the beginning of the process. If you use part of a drive formatted as HFS+, it will automatically set up an initial split of 32 GB. There's a couple of problems with that. One, that's not big enough to hold even just Windows 7. Two, Boot Camp can only setup a FAT32 partition for Windows since Microsoft has never licensed NTFS to anyone. So what you do is have the Boot Camp utility in OS X create the initial partition. If you've applied the partition for Windows on a drive already in use by OS X, drag the line it will show you between the new 32 GB FAT32 partition and the OS X partition to make it smaller or larger. You'll have to make it larger of course, so make sure to give yourself enough space for Win 7, and the apps you think you'll be installing.
2. Once you've set up your partition, or a whole drive, the Mac then boots to the Windows 7 DVD. As soon as you are able to make the choice from the Windows setup sequence, choose the option to format a disk. Any Apple HFS+ partitions will appear as unknown, while the FAT32 drive will be recognized, and will be named BOOTCAMP. Choose that partition and do a quick format to NFTS. Then proceed with installing Win 7 on that drive.
3. After Windows 7 has finished installing (through a few restarts) you won't quite be done. You'll notice that the graphics in Windows likely won't be very good, and in general running kind of slow. That's because the Windows DVD has no drivers for Mac hardware. Remain at the Windows 7 desktop.
4. From the Windows 7 desktop, put the Snow Leopard disk in the drive. Windows will pop up the usual message about what you want to do with an external drive. Choose "Run Setup". It will run for a while as the drivers for your Mac hardware are installed for Win 7.
I don't know how this part works for a Mac that came with Lion. If you purchased Lion on a flash drive, you may need to plug that in for the initial drivers from that instead. Read the Boot Camp instructions for Lion. It should walk you through what you need to do.
5. Once that's done, you'll have menu icon in Windows for Apple Software Update. Run that to see if it needs to download and install any other Boot Camp updates, which would any updated Win 7 drivers for you Mac. These will be Windows .exe files. So don't try to install the driver updates from OS X.

  • What windows do i need to install in bootcamp?

I got a MacBook White 13-inch, Late 2009 and i want to install windows with Bootcamp so I can play windows games. I did some google searches about this but im not really sure if Windows 7 runs good? Or maybe another windows version is better for my macbook? I saw some forum posts that wi-fi isn't working on Windows 7, but those posts are from 2009 so maybe its already fixed now? Do I need to install the 64bit version?
And to get the best game performance in Windows/Bootcamp, do I need to know some important things to download/install for my mac?
    Hope someone can help me,
    Thanks!

Make sure you read the system requirements for the games you wish to play. They usually list the minimal and recomended hardware. If you play with the minimal hardware then expect lower video quality and slower gameplay.
MacTracker lists the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M  as the graphics card installed in the late 2009 13" MacBook. This will not be able to satisfy the requirements of many action games released within the past few years. Also there is no upgrade possible.
This link shows several benchmark comparisons of the 9400M with games.

  • Skype in Windows 8 Constantly needing re-install

I am trying to help my wife who recently upgraded to Windows 8.  We have installed Skype MANY times on her computer.  Each time we do so it works.  But then the next time she wants to use Skype it tells her the App needs to be updated.  Repeat. Any idea what might be going wrong with this computer?

You need to install Skype desktop version on this computer. The "modern" (metro) app for Windows 8 was disabled on July 7. http://blogs.skype.com/2015/06/11/a-more-efficient-skype-experience-for-your-pc/

  • I have windows 8 and need to install itunes (without internet)

I've got the set up.exe file through another computer (latest version downloaded) and have put on desktop of windows 8, but when i go to use the set up it say  "this app can't run on your PC" find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher" any clues?
My main reason for wanting to put iTunes on the windows 8 computer is so i can use my iPhone 4 as a hotspot, I've seen that it won't work unless iTunes is installed....
feel like I'm going around in circles!
    Any help would be amazing!

    That is not true.
If you have the installer, iTunes will install without an active Internet connection.
The OP must have the correct installer for the OS on the computer.

  • Do I need to install CS3 on Windows 7 64 bit before installing CS5 Upgrade?

I am replacing a graphic designer's Windows Vista laptop with a Dell Precision T5500 desktop.  Do I need to uninstall CS3 from the laptop and decommission the serial number?  Then do I need to install CS3 on the new desktop before installing the CS5 upgrade?  I was told I needed to decommission the installation, but I don't remember having to do that with other installations.  Thanks in advance!

You should definetly deactivate any software before uninstalling. But you don't have to install CS3 in order to install CS5. Just have the serial number handy for verification. That said, depending upon the user's needs, you might want to leave CS3 available.

  • HT2305 I have a new computer with Windows 8 OS.  Do I need to install drivers so that my Ipod Nano will sync with this new computer:

My daughter gave me a new Ipod (Nano) for Christmas.  I had no problem download my songs from my old Ipod (Shuffle) to the new one.  However - since I do not buy songs on a regular basis, I did not buy a new song until 4/29/13.  Now for information...sometime in March my old laptop died, completely.  I had to go buy a new one - which I did and this new one has Windows 8 Operating System on it (which I hate, btw).
Now, when I bout a song on Tuesday, the song did not go to my new Ipod.   I tried everything and finally had to talk to a tech - who was very kind in helping me and we did get all my songs from Itunes to this new computer.  I thought the song I bought would then go on the Ipod - but it did not.  I had already hung up from the tech - since we had been talking on the phone for about an hour.  He informed me that he was giving me a "courtesy break" because it has been over 90 days since my new Ipod was purchased ---- just my darn luck!
Anyway, I have figured out on my own that the new Ipod Nano is not synced with the new laptop with Windows 8.  I have been trying for the last 2 hours to get it to do so and in doing so, found out that Windows 8 is not mentioned in any of the help forums.  So...my question is:  Do I need to install drivers on the computer or what?  I will not be purchasing anymore music from Itunes until I get this matter resolved.  Any help will be apreciated. Thank you.

  • Qosmio G20 Vista drivers? Not needed to install Windows Vista

    Hello,
I am new at this forum. My name is Francisco and I live in Brazil. I own a Toshiba Qosmio g20_105 and it is running Windows Vista Ultimate EN RTM 6000 without problems.
To do this, you must perform a fresh install of Windows Vista. The drivers for network (Intel PRO100),for audio (Soundmax), for TV (Toshiba PCI Tuner), modem (toshiba modem), Alps pointing device are installed directly from microsoft. You must install Toshiba nvidia display driver, Toshiba Bluetooth (monitor and stack), Toshiba texas flash media driver, toshiba RAID (driver and utilities), toshiba remote control manager and ConfigFree for Windows Vista.
You must have the Toshiba RAID drivers to install from the windows Vista DVD. Otherway, Windows does not recognize Toshiba RAID 0 and RAID 1.
Below some pictures of my G20 Desktop screen:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen1.jpg
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen2.jpg
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen3.jpg
And here is an example of using deskscapes animated backgrounds with Windows Vista, called dreamscene.
    It is in paused mode
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen4.jpg
To perform a fresh install of windows Vista:
Please, download the Toshiba RAID drivers from here:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/raid.rar
    1. Copy the contents of this archive onto a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive.
    2. Insert your Microsoft Windows Vista Edition Bootable DVD.
    3. Power on your computer and press F12 to display the boot menu.
    4. Choose the option to boot from the CD/DVD drive.
    5. On the first setup screen, choose your language options then press "Next".
    6. Press "Install Now".
    7. Type in your Product Key then press "Next".
    8. Accept the license terms by checking the box then press "Next".
    9. When asked "What type of installation do you want", press "Custom (advanced)".
    10. When asked "Where do you want to install Windows", make sure your media containing the Toshiba RAID drivers is connected to the computer, then click on "Load Driver".
    11. Browse to the location you have copied the RAID drivers to then press "OK".
    12. Setup will return to the previous screen, but it will show that you have selected the TOSHIBA RAID driver.
    13. Make sure the TOSHIBA RAID driver is selected then press "Next".
    14. Continue the installation of Windows Vista as normal.
Now you will need the Toshiba drivers for your Qosmio G20:
    See the Device manager info:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiodrivers1.jpg
    Drivers:
    1. SD memory controller
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/SD_memory.rar
    2. Bluetooth monitor and stack
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/bluetooth_mon.rar

    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/nvidia97.52.rar
    4. Texas FlashMedia controller

    And finally the Toshiba utilities:
    Toshiba Configfree
    Toshiba Assist
    RAID utilities
    Remote control manager
    Toshiba SD Memory utilities
    That's it...
So I must tell to you that Toshiba Qosmio G20 is Windows Vista Ultimate capable, indeed.
Hope this helps people who need and want to install Windows Vista Aero on their Qosmio G20 machines.

3.Download and copy the Toshiba RAID drivers to a removable media
Please, download the Toshiba RAID drivers from here:

    5. Go to Microsoft update and download all important updates available. If you wish you can install your native language, if other than English, from the Microsoft site.
let Windows install all the drivers found for your Qosmio G20.
    6. Reboot your machine and follow with the steps below.
    DRIVERS YOU MUST INSTALL:
    1. Alps pointing device driver (This is from Alps and working fine with your Qosmio G20)
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/alpsdriver.rar
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmioalps.jpg
During the installation, Windows will complain that you are installing an early device driver. Do not attempt to this, Install it anyway.
This is because the Windows driver for this device is originally installed with a more recent date and version from that you are trying to install.
But the driver posting here is the correct from the Alps for your Qosmio g20.

    3. Nvidia display driver GeForce Go 6600
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/nvidia97.52.rar
To install the nvidia 97.52, you must do it manually:
    open the Device manager
look for the Video adapter/nvidia Gforce go6600
    Driver update options
Look for a driver in computer
Choose a list of device drivers in computer
    With disc...
Lool for the place you've extracted the nvidia 97.52.rar
Find the nvts.inf and open it
You will come to the following screen:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmionvidiainstall.jpg
From a list choose your video card (go6600) and install it.
If you think it is difficult, please see the VIDEO Nvidiainstall.avi:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/nvidiainstall.rar
After the extraction, play it with Windows media Player
    4. Texas FlashMedia controller

5.SoundMAX integrated digital audio. Driver 5.12.1.5410
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/soundmax5.12.1.5410.rar
run the setup.exe and at first remove the driver you have installed on your Qosmio G20.
    reboot the computer
Run the setup.exe again and install the new driver. At some install point, Windows Vista will need a confirmation, if you trust Analog devices incorporated to goes on..
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiosoundmaxinstall.jpg
Continue with the installation and after finishing the process, test the functionallity of the new driver
    OR
If your G20 model is using the Sigmatel HD audio chipset, so you must install other driver than the Soundmax integrated digital audio
It is the SigmaTel HD Audio Driver for Windows Vista Version: 6.10.0.5324

Again thank you.  If I only use word, excel and access in the Win environment and Mac OS for email and safari for internet do I need anti virus software . Ie my connection to the world is mac only and I use office pro only to ruin the club, newsletters, membership database etc. and of course anything I do there can drag/drop to the mac environ to email.  That's my understanding anyway.  Next will my existing .pst file copy directly into mac mail or do I have to runs translator  as I recall reading something about that ages ago when I started thinking Mac

This is the message that i get when ever i plug in my ipod touch to my computer. the computer is running on vista. i dont know what to do, because i tried to follow the steps suggested, but it didnt work, the computer said that it couldnt find anything and to check with apple for some driver software. The iPod touch and iPhone do not use the same type of USB drivers that other Apple devices use. They both require Apple Mobile Device Services to be running. Using this tech article as a guide, you can easily fix this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567

  • Storage capacity needed for installing window OS and lots of educational software in window OS

I going to buy 13" MacbookPro with Retina Display with 2.6ghz i5 dual core processor and 8GB RAM.
I need to install Window 8.1 Pro and mutiple(a lot) of educational software inside Window OS.
128GB or 256GB PCle-based flash storage should I choose to make sure enough capacity and smooth performance to me?
    Thanks.

You may want to inquire in the Boot Camp forum here:
    Boot Camp
to see if Windows can play well with the Retina display.
If those wise people say it does not, consider the entry level non-Retina 13-inch MBP. It comes with a 500GB conventional hard drive with the option of a 1TB drive, still has a DVD drive, and you can upgrade RAM yourself--it's a ten-minute job. Another plus is that model seems to have very few reports of mechanical trouble in these forums.
However, if all you want to run is Win, I cast my vote with Esquared: consider a Windows laptop. You can get a 17-ich i7 for much less than any Mac notebook.

  • Just installed vista and bootcamp won't install because it needs windows 7 in order to install properly

Hey so i just bought by 15" MacbooK Pro yesterday and wanted to install windows vista on it. I'm to the part where you're supposed to install windows bootcamp but a message comes up saying that it needs windows 7 in order to install properly. What do i do?? I have the upgrade version of windows 7 (whcih i was going to eventually install) but when i tried installing it an error message came up saying that it needs vista service pack 1 to install. In order to install that service pack I need to connect to the internet. I can't connect to the internet, though, without installing the drivers from bootcamp!! AHH! see how this is frustrating? PLEASE HELP ASAP!

Reboot your computer while holding down the option key. You should be presented with the option to boot into OSX. Once booted into OSX start Boot Camp Assistant and select remove the Boot Camp Partition.
I know Boot Camp Assistant was not installed in Windows. It is an OSX application for creating and removing a Boot Camp partition. It is run from OSX.

  • I need to install windows on my mac

I'm an architect and have found myself needing to use Revit at home, obviously to do this I need to install windows on my mac. After doing some research I've decided to use Parallels to run Windows. My plan is to buy an external hard drive, install Parallels on my Mac and then run Windows as a Parallels Virtual Machine from the external hard drive. I know this sounds complicated but I think it will work as long as a get a good external hard drive. has anyone ever tried running windows like this? any advice on a good external hard drive? all helpful comments welcome!
    These are my details
    MacBook Pro, 15-inch, Early 2011
    Processor:2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB
    Software: OS X 10.8.2
    Thank you!

I have tried it before with USB 2.0 external hard drive. In case you are going to use USB external hard drive then I think the performance will be better if you put the Windows on the local hard drive instead of external since the early 2011 MBP USB port is not 3.0 yet.

  • What drivers do i need to install on my Lenovo Y530 after installing Windows 7???

I just installed Windows 7 on my new Lenovo Y530 and want to know what drivers need to be installed. A few problems is the surround sound speakers, the laptop had amazing sound before i put 7 on it and now the speakers aren't working together.
Also the Veriface login isnt working, does anyone know how to connect it properly??
Also what other drivers need to be re-installed to bring it back to full functionality???
    thanks for all the help

You're using the MS .NET Framework Provider for Oracle. You will need to install the Oracle client on each client machine using a Windows Form to access Oracle.
You will also need to include the MS .NET Framework Provider for Oracle. I can't remember if MS includes it with .NET Framework or not, however.

Lion's Boot Camp Assistant 4.x should have downloaded Apple drivers as part of also partitioning.

Not using Boot Camp, but you should be able to using virtualization software such as Parallels to run Windows concurrently with OS X.
