Windows 7 does not recognize second Intel SSD on W701

Hello,
I recently added a second Intel SSD to my W701.  Windows 7 shows the new SSD in the Hardware Manager but W7 does not assign a logical drive number to the new SSD.  The new SSD does not appear in My Computer.
Do I need to format the new SSD?
If so, how do I force W7 to format the new SSD?
And why didn't W7 format the new SSD when it was discovered by the Hardware Manager?
Thank you

Windows never formats a drive without explicit user instructions.
In the Start search, type in "Create and format hard disk partitions" and use Disk Management to assign a drive letter.

  • Windows does not recognize ipod nano

i cannot get windows (or itunes) to recongize my ipod nano. once in connect the ipod, i get the 'do not disconnect' message indefinately. it used to work. it reinstalled itunes, reset my ipod, etc. any suggestions?

thanks, but the troubleshooter assumes windows is recognizing the ipod. in my case it is not. i download itune 7.0 just in case. same problem exists. in fact, since windows does not recognize the ipod, itunes eventually freezes up.

  • Windows does not recognize ipod whatsoever

    This is so frustrating.
I just bought a new ipod video after giving up on my old ipod.
Windows does not recognize the new ipod at all, not even as an extra drive. I'm tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything, restoring the ipod, connecting to different ports. No such luck. I've read up on the past posts concerning this problem with no luck.
    Can anyone help me?

    here's a bit here's what microsotft says:
To resolve this problem, delete the UpperFilters registry value and the LowerFilters registry value. These values may cause access problems. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit , and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the UpperFilters registry value. This value is located in the following registry subkey:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E980-E325 11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
    4. Locate and then click the LowerFilters registry value. This value is located in the following registry subkey:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10 318}
    5. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
    6. Exit Registry Editor.
    7. Restart the computer.
it worked perfectly for me!make sure to follow the directions. it's easy and resolves many Windows XP problems related to ipods. for more info try microsoft help and support and just serch for ipod. it list a bit more info there. it doesn't say anything about reinstalling the apple software, but just to be thorough i unistalled itunes and quicktime before anything just to start with a clean slate, then reinstalled them from my ipod disk after the restart. then i downloaded all the updates from apple. my ipod has never worked better. good luck. theres no link to the page just search for ipod in windows help and support for exact wording

  • USB device (1 day old nano) has malfunctioned & windows does not recognize

Please can someone help a non-tech savy new ipod user. I have loaded the latest itunes, but not only does itunes not see my ipod, I get the following windows error when I plug it in. "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it". It says no drivers are loaded for this device. I have followed the 5Rs including the windows updates with no luck. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks

You listed as having an IBM r40. If I'm not mistaken, that's a laptop. The usb ports on many laptops aren't USB 2.0 or are low power ones. This can cause problems with a nano being able to charge.
One thing to try is to get a wall adapter to charge the nano separately, then connect to your computer for syncing only. You can find adapters locally and through Apple Store. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=C39 415D1&nclm=iPodPower
You can also try buying a POWERED usb hub. Make sure it has it's own power source so that its ports have enough charge to support the nano.

  • Windows says "device is not functioning" and "Windows does not recognize"

I lost my USB dock connector cable for my ipod. I just went out today and bought a brand new "Cygnett GrooveLink Strech Retractable USB Cable for iPod". I was pumped when I came home to finally be able to add music to my ipod again, but alas when I plug the iPod in, Windows pops up saying that the device is not functional and that Windows does not recognize it. I tried everything from rebooting the iPod to re-downloading iTunes and iPod updater. After searching this site for the past few hours, I figured I'd try and possibly find some real answers here. Please Help!!

    Hey everyone,
I had the same problems all of you are having. I
just got a 5th generation video ipod. For a few
days, my computer a) wouldn't recognize it; b) froze
up when I connected it; c) mistook it for a mass
    storage device ("drive E"). I bought a USB 2.0
notebook card which didn't work either and actually
seemed to make the problem worse because when I
connected the iPod to it my computer froze up.
I was very confused because my new iPod worked on my
brother's computer--which is much older than mine but
still recognized the iPod and connected to it.
Then I noticed that my brother's computer is running
an older version of the ipod software. I used his
disk to install "Ipod Updater 2005-06-26" rather than
the new version of the software on the Apple Web
site. Then I plugged my iPod into a USB 1.1 port.
To my surprise, my computer finally recognized the
iPod and is now loading music onto it. I cannot
believe this worked. I wonder if the latest version
of the software is faulty in some way.
Try it! I hope it will work for you too. You will
need an older version of the iPod updater software,
so borrow it from a friend with an older ipod.
I am having this problem also...It will work fine on the 1.1 but when i plug it into the 2.0 it has trouble recognizing it...

Try putting it into "Disk Mode" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Then with it in this mode connect it to the PC and try to run the latest iPod updater to do a restore and update software if you have the option. the latest iPod updater is 2006-03-23 and can be downloaded here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

I would first try unplugging All the USB devices plugged into your computer, and then plug back in just the iPhone and see if that is recognized.  Also, do you have the latest version of iTunes for Windows installed on your PC, as you need to?
    Hope this helps

  • One of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message.

I connected my sons Ipod Touch to my pc and it worked fine. Now, when I try to connect my iPad the following message comes up: One of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message.
I checked the cable. It surely is not the cable. If I connect the iPod again it works fine. If I use the same cable with my pc and ipad at work or my other son’s laptop, it is working perfectly. It is only on my laptop where the iPod was connected. Something tells me it got something to do with the drivers that went corrupt or something when I connected the iPod.
I searched the internet and I see a lot of people gets this message. Still no solved answers yet. Is there a place where I can download the drivers again or any other suggestions?
    Windows 7 and iPad 2
    Kind regards,

I was hoping it would be something like a USB device conflict, but now the shuffle is the only thing connected...
This article was one of the ones you linked to above in your initial post
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369
Under Part 9. Verify that USB drivers are installed, did you try the steps in If only "Unknown Device" appears?  That appears to be your situation.
Also, you said that the shuffle initially worked well enough to do a sync, then it had the same problem again.  If you can get it to work again initially, before doing anything else, try the following.  Select the shuffle in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, go to the Summary tab.  By default, the checkbox for Enable disk use should be unchecked.  If so, check it and Apply the change.  See if that makes any difference.
(If Enable disk use was already checked, try unchecking it and Apply the change.  Basically, set it the "other way" and see if there is any improvement.)
NOTE:  When disk use is enabled, you have to eject the iPod in iTunes before disconnecting it physically.
If the disk use change makes a difference, that may provide a clue about the actual cause.

  • When I connect my Iphone 5 to my computer to tranfer pictures my computer says USB device attached to the computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it.  What do I do??

I do not understand why my computer is telling me that my new iphone 5 has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it when I plug it in the computer.
I have tried several times and gotten the same message.  Any suggestions?
    thanks

Make sure you can see your device in the sidebar>>
       Open Itunes on your computer
       Click View
    _Click View Sidebar
Then Try EXPANDING all sections in the following article, pressing CTRL>p, printing it all out and following the instructions step by step.  Use the instructions that apply to your computer's Operating System, but don't skip any steps.

You are installing the Apple Mobile Device USB driver, which I did not have to do previously, so something in the updates has been left out / or changed.

  • My computer will not recognize my iPod Nano when i connect it. I tried my laptop instead but it said the same thing - one of the USB devices attached to your computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. Can i fix this?

My 16 gig iPod Nano 7th gen was put of power. I connected it to the computer and it started to turn on (the apple appeared in the middle of the screen). Then left it two minutes and the computer went into sleep mode. My iPod nano had gone off and now it will not turn on, or connect to the computer, so i cannot charge it. I am not sure if it is a problem with the usb cable. When I conntct the cable to the computer nothing happens, but then when i connect the iPod to the cable it says 'one of the USB devices attached to your computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it'. Please don't say its broken already

It probably needs to be reset. The procedure is different for different Nano models: http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano/assistant/itunes/
