Windows 7 fails to recognize Adaptec 39320 SCSI controller card.

I recently installed a new Motherboard in an existing system and installed Windows 7 Pro on it instead of Windows XP Pro that I had on the previous motherboard. The system included a Adaptec 39390D SCSI card
and 4 ultra320 SCSI drives. I downloaded the drivers for this card from Adaptec, there site says the driver is compatible with Windows 7. I then went to Device Manager and clicked on, clicked on Storage Controllers, Adaptec 39320-based Ultra 320
SCSI, and clicked update controller and received driver installed message.
Device Manager now shows "This device is working properly.", but
the drives do not show up in "Disk Management" were they showed up in previous installations on Windows XP Pro, for Importing.
The BIOS display during startup shows the controller and the connected drives.
This seems to be problem with Windows 7 Professional. If I made a mistake in installing the Adaptec driver would someone please tell me how to correct the problem.

Typically, and I could be wrong about this, you want to also update other drivers such as the Chipset (which the SCSI card may be plugged into as on onboard device) which will also be needed in order for the SCSI drives to be seen.
Did you install Windows 7 using installation media or did you use a deployment mechanism like Microsoft Deployment Toolkit to deploy the OS? If you used MDT, you can pre-package the device drivers (Adaptec drivers included) into the deployment to allow the
drivers to be installed during the initial install of the OS and not in the OS. This method is recommended to be used for plug-and-play driver installation.

Is this an OEM card? ATTO web site does not list such a model.
Otherwise, you'll be better off with a ExpressPCI UL4D or UL4S. I have run a UL4D in my G4 MDD for years with absolutely no problem. You could get one from ebay for cheap.

• Adaptec SCSI controller on Virtual XP mode

I am trying to get my SCSI HP ScanJet 3C/4C scanners to work on my PC. I just installed Win 7 64 bits Ultimate with the Virtual PC-XP mode I cannot get the driver to catch the SCSI controller as it is suposed to be "embedded" in Windows
XP (according to Adaptec) and thus cannot get separate drivers from Adaptec. It is an Adaptec AHA-2910C card.
It shows the card in the hardware manager of Win 7 but has no drivers for it. If I could at least get the XP mode to see it and install the driver , then I would be in good shape. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, that's just not possible, XP Mode running in Windows VPC cannot
see the real hardware of the PC. only virtual devices WVPC provides,
and pass through SCSI isn't one of the things provided.
VMWare Workstation may provide what you want, but I'm not sure about
any of the other VM solutions.

• W500 w/ Windows 7 64-Bit Ultimate fails to recognize some audio CDs

My DVD/CD drive (a HL-DT-ST_DVDRAM_GSA-U20N) in my Lenovo W500 laptop (running Windows 7 64-Bit Ultimate) fails to recognize some audio CDs.
It recognizes most audio CDs, but a few are not recognized by Windows 7 itself, or by any other program on my computer.
These CDs are recognized by other Windows 7 computers.
I don't think that it's a copy protection issue, since the CDs don't mention any copy protection scheme (and also since they work on other Windows 7 machines).
One CD that wasn't recognized by my machine was the second CD from a two CD set (the first CD was correctly recognized).
I have the latest updates for Windows, and all my programs, drivers, BIOS & firmware.
Thanks.

What kind of behavior are you getting from the drive? If it's spinning up, down, and up again your lens might be dirty or the drive could be failing.
If you do clean the lens, be careful. Do your research first or you might make it worse.
Edit: Replacements are:
42T2511 or 42T2541 (DVD)
42T2543 or 42T2513 (DVD/CD-RW combo)
42T2545, 42T2515 or 42T2551 (DVD-RAM/RW)
You can get the 42T2543 for $23 and the 42T2545 for $45 on eBay.

• Windows 2012 Verification of prerequisites for Domain Controller promotion failed

Windows 2012 Verification of prerequisites for Domain Controller promotion failed and gave the below error(In computer management local group and user option is not there as suggested by a solution!)
"Verification of prerequisites for Domain Controller promotion failed. The local Administrator account becomes the domain Administrator account when you create a new domain. The new domain cannot be created because the local Administrator account password
does not meet requirements.
Currently, the local Administrator password is blank, which might lead to security issues. We recommend that you press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, use the net user command-line tool, or use Local Users and Groups to set a strong password for the local Administrator
account before you create the new domain."

OK, the reason you see this error is because when you set up and configured your Windows R2 environment you may have logged into the OS with an account other than Administrator. So, if you created your log in account named Bob, this is throwing off the Server.
So, hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete, and look who you are logged in as, and then change the account you are logging in as and use the local Administrator account. What you may find is that the default Admin account password has not been set.
Check that out and see if that is what you are experiencing.
Best wishes

• T420s (4170-CTO) Windows unable to recognize network controller

I have been running ubuntu on my T420s for about 2 years now. Needed a Windows box to work from home so I installed Windows 7 Home Premium - Service Pack 1 on it. Installation went smooth but Windows did not recognize my wireless card, preventing me from connecting to the internet to download and install the rest of my drivers. I tried to manually install the Intel Wireless Lan (bg, abg, abgn) for Windows (64-bit) Centrino Advanced-N 6205 which is what I thought was installed on my machine to no avail.
Has anyone expierenced this problem before that could point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Hi again, xm
Thank you for the information. If you have access to an Ethernet network connection, then I would recommend downloading this driver here first. This should allow you to use a wired connection, through which you can install Windows updates and Lenovo updates, which should install the proper drivers for your machine, thus allowing you to use wireless connectivity.
Hope it helps,
Adam

• Problems setting up SCSI controller -

I'm running Solaris 8 on a PC with a newer Adaptec SCSI Card and I can
not get Solaris to recognize any drives...
A windows boot disk with fdisk on it recognizing the drives fine.
I've also tried an old SCSI card, and it can find the drives.
Any suggestions?
PS. I've also ran through the SCSI cards BIOS setup and they're setup as identical as can be.
Thanks

The only logical explanation is that you do not have the Solaris drivers for the SCSI controller. Check out the Solaris HCL to see if the SCSI controller is compatible.

• K8N Diamond Plus + Adaptec 39320

I have just built the following
K8N Diamond Plus + ATI All-In-Wonder 800GT + Adaptec 39320 + 2 x Atlas 15k II (Raid 0) + 2 sticks of 2100 memory
When I reboot it's 50/50 whether or not we get to see the XP desktop or get a reset. From a warm restart (within XP) it hardly ever boots. From a cold start I get more success. In safe mode it gets as far as MUP.SYS and then waits. After that it may boot XP or reset. Also the XP logo (fade in) at the start stutters a lot.
So I get the Adaptec bios screen, I get the XP logo fading in and then just when you expect to see the blue desktop it resets. I have seen a couple of "controller failed to respond in time" in the XP event log.
Is this some kind of timing issue? Is there a known fix?
thanks
charker

Charker,
You power supply looks like a good one. The reason that Stick and I were jumping on you power supply is that the symptoms you were giving are those that we see a lot of and the cause nine out of ten times is to small or bad power supply. Yours being new this should not be the case, but even the best company let a bad one get out the door some times, for right now I am going to assume that the power is OK.
One other thing before we get to your problem, the Forum likes to see your system specifications in your post or preferred in your signature. It helps us help serive you better, note my signature, if you would had a signature like mine or Stick’s we would not of had the ask you about you power supply and could have gone directly to other causes of problem that can cause you symptoms and saved a lot of time.
Now, there have been many problems with the Diamond Plus. It is a very advance motherboard number and many people with little experience with computer are having the most problems. As you see I am building a new Diamond Plus system and I am also using a third party Hard Drive controller like you are so, I think we can talk and know what the other is saying, but just so I know what level of instructions I need to give when I ask you to do something. Wil you let know a little about yourself and computers.
First, myself and others have had problem with thrashed BIOS parameters that are not listed in the BIOS setup routine, so I would like you to Clear your BIOS as the first thing you do. However, there is a problem here to the MS-7220 MB many people have been having a problem with the reset circuit on the MB. Therefore, to insure you have a truly cleared BIOS and it will not given us problems. Unplug the AC Power and pop the battery out of the motherboard and let it set all night or at lest eight hours. I personally run around in circles for days until some one clued me in to the trick.
Second, unplug all equipment not required to start Windows and see if that has any effect on the problem. Where we are going with all this is looking for some hardware or software that is not responding fast enough or at all the in the required time Windows is giving it. Following this same line check you System Even Log for Warnings or error about hardware or services that Windows has to restart more than once or does not respond quickly enough.
Third, I have new BIOS that if you would like to try it sent me a personal message with your e-mail address and I will send you a copy.
Try all of that and let me know what you find. Do not reply only if you just still have problem, because we like to know if what we have told you worked and it helps other people who may be having your same problem.
If you do not understand any of my instructions or need more details, just reply and we will work it out.
Good luck and hope to hear from you soon.
Roger
When submitting a problem, include a complete list of your system components; include part numbers, all Power Supply Voltages, and their output ratings. It is almost impossible to estimate what your problem is without knowing something about it.

• Scandisk or defrag fail to recognize hd volume

hello all, and happy holidays.
i've had this issue b4 but didnt pay too much attention to it, but now it has happened again so i am a bit bothered.
i have seagate 7200.7 120GB sata drive with ncq hooked to the nvidia sata controller #2.
The drive has 8 volumes (c-j), c,d,e,g,h are ntfs, the others fat32.
Sometime when my computer hangs and i've to reset it, scandisk fails to recognize some volumes (totally random this time f,i, always fat32) as valid win xp volumes.
I can still open these volumes and read and write to them, but cant run defrag (i use disk keeper pro) on them, or for that matter anyother hdd tools like windows scandisk etc.
Now when ever i reboot, scandisk kicks in complaining that it cant scan non-xp drives.
My options include turning off scandisk, reformatting (loads of data on them, really not a good option), find out whats causing it!!
So anyone here help me work on option three
Rest of the system is in the signature.
thanks.

Hello again tcdm1972,
This quote from a MicroMat technician is misleading and makes me wonder about abusingly promoting defragmentation (and using their products) as so necessary.
Yes, in certain rare cases one might benefit from defragmenting HD and HD free space, but in Mac OS X it is not so black and white question.
- In the more general usage of Mac OS X, defragmentation is actually counter-productive and defeats the very clever way Mac OS X has to rewrite every file on-the-fly onto the best possible location at this very moment, each time an application uses it.
Best location on the hard drive varies, depending on many more criteria than the simple contiguity.
About the term "optimization" in Apple software installs:
I find it misleading too, as all it optimizes is the launching of applications in Mac OS X
(it's the "update_prebinding" command really, nothing to do with defragmentation).
About OnyX, Yasu etc:
These too are small utilities to run quite harmless Terminal commands. They don't play in the same fields, nothing neither to do with defragmentation.
DiskWarrior too has yet another approach: Directory handling.
So, your original question about using iDefrag:
On their website they state
"To defragment your boot volume, you need to boot from a different volume"
as I said.
In your case, the solution is clear:
since you have two boot partitions on your HD,
- boot from Partition 1 to defrag Partition 2,
and
- boot from Partition 2 to defrag Partition 1.
That is, a copy of iDefrag installed on each of your Mac OS X volumes.

• Windows won't recognize my iPod - USB device not recognized

This is really frustrating. So I got a 4gb iPod nano on Saturday, took it home, set it up and everything was going just fine, no worry's. About 4 hours later I went to adjust my songs and it would not come up in iTunes. A little pop-up box said that the "USB device not recognized - one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it." After owning my iPod for less than an afternoon, I now have an ipod that I can do nothing to including change the music, charge it, etc. It works normally otherwise, it just won't connect to my computer. I then plugged in my older 256mb usb stick, and the same message, it too does not get recognized by windows. So I then tried a brand new 1gb usb stick that I had and the same result, not recognized by windows. I updated my itunes to the latest one after purchasing my ipod (version 7.4.3.1) and have looked up everything that I can and tried everything I saw to try, but nothing, absolutely nothing, worked. However my usb mouse, usb joystick, and usb printer all still work, but my moniter that has four usb outlets on it causes the same message, if I plug in the cable that connects one usb on my computer to the four on my moniter, windows can not recognize it. When I look in my device manager at the "unknown device" under the usb controller list it says that there is not driver for it, however I know that the drivers are either on my computer or built into windows. Any help? Anybody have an idea about what to do? Is it something in my windows registry has changed because of the new itunes, etc.?

Now that I've had some sleep, I realise I didn't really provide information that may lead to some specific help. Here goes - when I first plugged in the ipod nano (8gb), It displayed the screen it was supposed to - I could see the lightning bolt through the battery icon and knew it was charging. The icon for the ipod also appeared in the left-hand listing in itunes (in the section that existed under Library, before the sections Store and Playlists). This section now does not appear (I can't remember the title of this section, but it might have been 'devices'). In fact, I'm pretty sure this problem started when I clicked on this icon - nothing happened and it disappeared - so did the display on the ipod, which is not just the apple. This means itunes has only Library, Store and Playlist in the left-hand colunm. While I accept that computers do not work on normal logic, this seems to me to indicate that the drivers are fine, the system is fine, my laptop is fine - its the ipod or the usb cord. This morning as I tried again, this time my laptop gave me the option to 'click on the balloon to solve the problem' - let me quote: "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognise it. Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognise it, replace the device". Come on folks - one of you will surely know how to fix this (short of me taking the ipod back to the store to get my money back).

• WIndows failed to start. (0xc0000225); cannot run Safe Mode and no install disc

Hello,
I am currently having a huge problem where my computer is stuck on "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the case. To fix the problem:..." (SEE IMAGE)
I have tried finding solutions online but none have worked. My computer DOES NOT go to safe mode if I press F8 nor do I have an 'installation disc'. In fact, I tried the recovery discs from my brother's laptop and the computer doesn't even recognize that they're
in the disc tray.
My computer is an Acer Aspire M3470 running Windows 7 Home Prem OA.
If it helps, this occurred when I tried running Spybot S&D due to Malwarebytes refusing to start up (pretty sure I had a virus of some sort).
The other image is what shows before the error screen; pressing CTRL-F does nothing.
Thank you in advance!

I have obtained an installation ISO and put it on both a disc and USB but neither work. I get a blue screen with the following text and cannot proceed no matter what I press:
"RECOVERY You pc needs to be repaired. The application or operating system could not be uploaded because a required file is missing or contains errors...
File:\WINDOWS\system32\winload.efi Error code: 0xc0000225
You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media, contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer.

• SCSI Controller AH2940UW

I am instaling Solaris 9 on a ULTRA Sparc 10 but the installation does not detect the AH2940UW SCSI controller.
Does this controller require a separate driver to be installed or is there another configuration that needs to be done?
Thanx.

Yes, it would require driver software, and Adaptec chooses to not create such packages.
Adaptec would have to also modify the chipset on that card to make it compatible with Sun's SPARC architecture.
It will not work. Period.
Find a different HBA.
Search the Hardware forums for keyword symbios.
If you search those forums with keyword adaptec you'll find how
It has been discussed, over there, many many times in the last two years..
Don't bother to post a new inquiry, as the issue has been completely discussed.
