Windows 7, Firefox browser not blocking pop ups

I bought a new computer with Windows 7. I downloaded Firefox, which I had on my previous computer with no problems. Even though I have it set to block pop ups, I still get pop ups several times a day.

• Why can't I close the Firefox browser or any pop-ups?

This is a problem I had with Firefox before I formatted my computer a few weeks ago. Firefox was working just fine after the fresh windows install which was great (I actually had to switch to using Safari because I couldn't stand how glitchy Firefox was), but looks like the same problem is happening again!!
In sum: the Firefox browser will not close when I click the X close button in the top corner. Also, no pop-ups will close, whether I click on OK or X or anything to either accept or deny changes. When a pop-up is prompted on a website so that I can upload a picture or other media (such as uploading a new profile picture on twitter), I am not able to scroll through my computer's content on the pop-up (scrollbars don't work), X close the pop-up or even press OK to accept the changes and choose the picture. However, I am still able to access the content, choose an item and browse through folders for what is displayed on my screen, so it is not frozen. It won't even let me use the arrow keys to scroll through the content though.
I have to ctrl+alt+del to close firefox. No, restarting my computer doesn't help. Clearly reinstalling firefox doesn't help as I recently did that when I formatted my computer, and internet explorer, safari and opera work just fine.

Invoke the music player, Options -> Exit. It's the last one in the list

• I set my Firefox settings to block pop-ups. It's now working. What do I need to do?

I am still being annoyed with constant pop-ups. I like using Firefox, but I'm switching to another browser if I can't get this resolved.

Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there.

• Not allowing pop ups

Firefox is not allowing pop ups even though the block pop up box is unchecked.

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

There is also security software that can block pop-ups, so can can check the advanced settings for Firefox in such programs.

• I can block pop-ups, but not allow new windows in Firefox 4

After upgrading to Firefox 4, I can block pop-ups (except
those I wish to allow) just fine, but I can't find a way to
allow website links to open new windows -- I always get
a message that Firefox prevented the new window, with
an "Allow" button. I want to allow them all. How can I
do this? Thanks.

• Firefox does not open pop-up windows from java script even if blocking pop-up is disabled for those sites

I need to use pop-up windows for some e-mail sites which use java, but firefox doesn't do anything, even if i allowed pop-ups for those sites or disable completely

If the settings in Firefox are correct then make sure that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) isn't blocking pop-ups, some have advanced features that include blocking pop-ups.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

Thank you,

If you are receiving popups, it is possible that this is being caused by an extension that you have installed on Firefox.
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. • Why won't Firefox block pop-ups even though configured to do so?

I have the browser set up to block pop-ups. It blocks the pop-ups from my bank even though I have repeatedly made that page "allowed" but allows subscription pop-ups on dozens of pages. Nearly all of these sub pop-ups force me to close them to see the page it hides. How can I actually block those annoying actions?

• I can't get Firefox to allow pop ups - changed setting in options but still blocking pop ups

I have tried to allow pop ups by changing preferences in options but Firefox is not allowing the pop up windows. It used to work before but I can't understand why it won't work now.

Under "Content" in Options, you have UNchecked "Block pop-up windows", yet you still don't see any popups? Can you give us an example of a site that is not showing pop-ups despite you turning the feature off?
A good site to test the pop-up blocker feature is http://www.popuptest.com/ where you can see if it's running or not. More info here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Pop-up%20blocker?s=pop-up&r=0&e=sph&as=s

They are typically hiding behind the main brower window, and I first figured it out when one of them had audio a few days ago. I have blocked pop-ups in my preferences, and it is still happening. Can you advise please?

Screen goes to black when tablet (ASUS Eee Pad Tablet) is turned to the landscape view I need to make the browser Window on the Android Firefox Browser NOT ZOOM or STRETCH to fill the Screen! [email protected]

Yes we know that Android improperly suggests using zoom for Firefox mobile. Firefox 9 has a specific tablet UI that will correct this issue. It will be in the Android Market as Firefox beta around Nov 10th.

• Could Firefox browser be blocking my way?

I have recently upgraded my yahoo email account to their new version format. I can't compose, forward, reply, open email drafts or send anything. I cannot go back to original version. Could Firefox browser be blocking my way? Tried email page in Explorer browser and it worked a couple of times and now won't let me send either. Just wondering if it's something the browser is doing. Can you help?

Having Push access enabled on the iPhone has nothing to do with and does not affect a POP account. Push access for received messages is not supported with a POP account or with any other email account that does not support Push access.
Push access for received messages with the iPhone is supported with a MobileMe account, with a Yahoo account that is created with the Yahoo account preset - which creates the account as an IMAP account with Push capabilities, and with an Exchange account accessed via ActiveSync with the Exchange Server.
With a POP account, the Fetch settings apply. You can switch the account setting from being automatically checked for new messages to a manual check.
Regardless which settings you use for this, if the iPhone's Mail client checks the incoming mail server for new messages and/or is downloading new messages received at the incoming mail server while another email client attempts to do the same, the 2nd email client will be temporarily locked out by the incoming mail server.
Although a POP account can be accessed with more than one email client, a POP account is designed to be accessed with a single email client only.
This is not a problem with an IMAP account, which is specifically designed to be accessed with more than one email client with the ability for more than one email client to access the incoming mail server for the account at the same time.
