Windows 7. Format.

I loaded W7 onto my new iMac 27 [late 09] and it worked fine until I uninstalled and deleted partition [ for a reason]. I now want to reload it but am having problems.
I have set the partition to 32Gig in boot camp and then run the instal disk.
The problem is that once I get to the 'partition 3 bootcamp' line on the installer, a message at the bottom says that I can't use this partition and then I can't get to the next blue page where I choose NTFS to format
I have checked and downloaded drivers from Apple [drivers & AutoUnattend] and dragged them to a USB [ following the guidance in support memo ] but the installer will not recognise anything on the USB
Any simple advice would be welcome

If I read your message correctly, you are trying to install Windows on a USB attached hard drive. If that is correct, it is also the reason why you are not able to select the drive/partition. Windows can not be installed to a USB attached drive, it must be installed to an internal hard disk.

    miche978,
Did you setup the player to be in recovery mode?
. Connect your player to your computer while pressing and holding the Play button. Keep the Play button depressed for 5 seconds after the player is connected to your computer.
    2. After releasing the Play button, a dialog box may appear, prompting you to install a Player Recovery Device driver. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the device driver installation.
    3. Once the Player Recovery Device driver installation is complete, double-click the firmware upgrade .EXE file.
When the NOMAD MuVo NX Firmware Download dialog box appears, click the Start button.
Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the upgrade.

  • Window's formatted iPod Mini and an iMac G5

I've read somewhere once before that you can transfer your legally downloaded iTunes songs from your iPod to iTunes on another computer regardless of formatting. I can't seem to find this. I've hit the Sync button but get the message saying that everything in iTunes will erase whatever I have saved in my iPod. I have 235 songs on my iPod and don't want to lose them because the original computer that was used to download them was in Iraq (and probably since destroyed).
Is there anyway to take what's on my Window's Formatted iPod Mini and transfer it to my iMac?

  • Exporting in windows media format - only get 30 seconds!

I am trying to export a HDV film into windows media format for my client. They want the film to be 320 x 180, in windows media format and under 10mb, for use on their website.
The film is 3 1/2 minutes long, but when I try and export using quicktime conversion and then select windows media. I have tried fiddling with some of the settings but it keeps just doing 30 seconds of the film. What am I doing wrong? What settings should I be using?
    Please help me,
    Thank you,
    Tom

IMO, Flip4Mac Studio is a much better product than Visual Hub. Both cost money, but better feature set within F4M. As you experienced, you can only get 1/2 the duration of exports, up to a limit of 30 seconds, in trial mode.
If you want the studio version, go to your WMV preferences and click on the upgrade tab.

  • Quicktime conversion to Window wmf format

I have a quicktime file that I need to convert to a windows wmf (or avi) format for placement on a website. The quicktime file is output from Final Cut Pro using the compressor -- problem is that I need to crop the resulting quicktime file to an unusual aspect ratio, greatly reduce the size (pixels by pixels, not by file size), and convert to a windows "wmf" format. My question basically is -- can anyone recommend a MAC application that will allow me to do all of the above in one pass -- I can't seem to find one that will accomplish all of these tasks -- I thought Cleaner would, but my copy won't let me -- I keep getting error messages such as "no audio track, wmf requires an audio track" or "movie size not supported" -- anyone have any suggestions??? Barring a MAC application, is there anything on the PC side that will???

    David -
Thanks for the help . . . I have the free flip4mac plug-in installed, but it never dawned on me that the full version would solve my problem . . . I haven't used Cleaner for awhile, but I thought it was supposed to be the heavy hitter in conversion scenarios . . . but it's given me nothing but trouble and no solution . . . thanks again for pointing me in a fruitful direction . . .

Does sound like a mail problem. You could try right clicking on the file & create archive of ... This will create a zip file. Try sending the zip file.

  • Questions about using Styles Window for formatting a book in Apple Works.

Help says "You can create your own styles in any document type." Not clear on how to do that.
I wish to have one Style or group of Styles associated with one document of say 500 pages for a book. Each chapter Heading. as a single column layout, is separated by Section Breaks from previous and following text in 2 column layout.
Question 1. How do I make Styles window settings (Edit/Done) specific for this entire document? Can I edit settings in Styles window and have them remain specific and locked to this particular document? Or are the Styles window settings constant across all documents?
Question 2. (If Styles window settings are not specific and locked to this document) Do I need to make a NEW Style for each purpose within the document, as in Book Heading, Book Subheading, Book Body, Book special paragraph style, and etc.
Question 3. When importing multiple sections of the work (by copy and paste) from other AW documents how can I have the imported text follow the book’s Style settings (and vice versa how to keep tab settings that are specific in some areas). Sometimes the imported work refuses to conform to the Book document’s style say line spacing for instance.
    Thank you
    Hilary Fish
    iBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8) AppleWorks 6.2.9

    Hi Hilary,
I haven't used styles enough to give definitive answers to your questions, but I'm sure others will join in and correct any errors in what follows.
A "Style" is essentially a set of paragraph level format settings that can be collectively applied to a paragraph or contiguous set of paragraphs as a set, rather than having to apply each attribute individually. Once a style is applied to various parts of a document, changes made to the style specification will apply to every part of the document to which that style has been applied.
AppleWorks also includes two other types of Styles—Outline styles (Diamond, Harvard and Legal), used to identify hierarchical levels of paragraphs, and Table styles, used to format tables.
Question 1: From the Help article "Using Styles":
You can copy the collection of all the styles available in a document and make them available in another document. This is called exporting and importing a stylesheet.
I read this as saying that styles you create are specific to the document in which they are created, but may be exported to other documents. "Other documents" would includes documents saved as templates, which could be used to create the various sections of a book.
    Question 2:
As the set of styles is specific to the document it is created in (or into which it is imported), you can probably leave "Book " off the names of the styles (but may decide that leaving it on makes it easier to know what the styles are for). You will need to use an existing style or create a new one for each purpose within the document.
    Question 3:
Copy copies the text AND formatting of the selected material.
Paste pastes the text AND formatting of the selected material.
Paste also inserts the pasted material into the target document at the insertion point. All of the pasted material goes into the same Section. If the pasted material includes a section break, then a new section will be created in the target document.
If you export the set of styles from the master document and apply them to the parts of the source document before transferring the material to the master document, I suspect the formatting will be carried over.
Another possibility is to leave the source document with no formatting at all beyond paragraph breaks, and to apply the formatting (styles) after transferring the text.

    Barry

  • IPod Nano would not connect to Windows or Format. *SOLVED*

Ok, first post and I am just posting to thank those who have posted some different things to try, thanks to you guys, I have a working iPod Nano. Here is what I tried...
    The Problem
iTunes would not see my nano and could not format the nano during install. Would just sit on "waiting for ipod..."
The Solution -This worked for me, so I hope it works for you.
After reading on this forum about problems and ways to fix them, I found out a few things. DO NOT install the iTunes that comes on the disk with the nano. Download the latest version off of www.itunes.com and install. Once finished, you will still not see the nano. That's ok. You need to download the software updater for the nano. This can be found @ www.apple.com/support/downloads and click on the iPod updater 2005-11-17. Download and install this program. After the program is installed, do one more thing before running it. (If you try, it will prob lock up, atleast that's what it did on me.) You need to check what drive letter that Windows has set the nano to be. My Windows install is set to E:/ and the nano was set to C:/ automatically. You need to right click on My Computer and click manage. After that opens, click on Disk Management and follow the prompts to change the drive letter to something else. I set mine to Z:/ since nothing is set there. After you have done this, run the iPod updater 2005-11-17 and choose the reset option after it has noticed the iPod. It will format the nano and re-install the new software on the nano. After that is complete, start up iTunes and it should see the nano and automatically help you set up some options. After that, enjoi!
Now, this helped me and I installed and re-installed iTunes a few times. One crucial piece of information, is to restart Windows whenever the software asks you to. Do not take this lightly! I recommend starting fresh with no iTunes or iPod software and begin at the top. Others have written good posts on how to properly remove iTunes and iPod software. Do it to the letter!
Well, that's what I did and hopefully it will help you too.

  • New Windows 7 formats Time server idle power levels

Hi,  I am a new user of an NMH405 which I hope to upgrade to 3TB or 1.5TB raid1 (not 100% yet).  I bought the unit as a NAS unit (but chose this model as it was on special offer) hoping that I could use the media server features later.
I have the unit working as a NAS using the original drive and have come up with some questions that I cannot find answered either in the documentation or the FAQ's and community posts.
First Windows 7 appears to be only partialy supported.  The folder locations for media are different to Vista and there are new formats such as .WTV which replaces .DVR-MS as the default TV format.  The supplied backup software didn't install correctly and the update (well I think the import software is updated) on the website is hidden inside a huge .ISO file which is going to take hours to download.  However reading the posts indicates that the .DVR-MS format is only half supported.  Solutions involve editing an .XML file or customising the NTI backup in order to get files onto the server.  .WTV is not even mentioned anywhere.
Is fully realised Windows 7 support going to be in the next release? and approximately when?
I decided to use a static IP address for the server as I have been suffering master browser problems with Windows networking.  However I then ran into the Time server bug and had an 8 hour 14 minute offset to the system time.  I have temporarily solved this by assigning a reserved address in my DHCP server and reverting to DHCP mode.  However during the process I found that the NMH405 had become the master browser and solved the initial problem - ACE.
    Fix next firmware update?
Drive support.  This is difficult to keep up to date and June 2009 is a little out of date.  Well hidden as well, I first found the list by accident but have since had difficulty finding it deliberately.  No "Avoid these drives" list though, but there is sporadic indiction of non-compatibility in the forums.  The list is date 7 days before the .ISO image and of course long before the October date of the latest firmware.  Cannot find an update notice indicating changes - e.g. drive support.
Make it easier to find and try to keep it more up to date.
Power levels and drive spin down.  From the data sheet 60W is the only indication, however a link to a third party indicates 13W but no spin down?.  With the emphasis on "Green Power" in the US I am suprised this information is not in bold in the data sheet (though other NAS vendors also hide it).  My unit will spend 80% of its life idle, I do hope the drives do get to spin down and extend their life and save power.
Is direct Cisco information available rather than just third party?
Finally perhaps a silly query, but why not.  Can I use a USB hub and attach multiple drives externally?
    StokersSon

    Hi,
Thanks Wilkins377 for your two cents.  At least I know it should work.
Well I now have upgraded to 2 x 1.5GB drives (not in the approved list) and have them working 100% as a raid pair.  Also Firmware to 3.18.15
Using a USB hub I have got multiple HDD USB drives working - including NTFS formatted (read only of course).  So the hardware is all functional.
However no matter how I format my 2GB and 4GB flash drives (FAT or FAT32 including alternate allocation size) the  mediahub does not see them in either port directly or the powered hub.  I am using an XP machine to format them.  An SD card is seen OK.
Well flash is not important, being able to use multiple USB for backup and networked access is.  I am not likely to need to use the hub ports for media import as it is easier to get access to my PC and place the hub out of reach.
I still cannot tell if the drives spin down, they are still quite warm after several hours of only the media hub and router being powered.  I need to get a stethascope and listen if they spin up on access, the nearby PC fans are too noisy.
    Regards

  • Boot Camp Windows install format to NTFS not working.

As a preface I am new to Apple and more complex computer issues in general. With that said I have spent several hours trying to get Windows 8.1 installed from the DVD media to a partition created using Boot Camp Assistant. I have tried several suggestions and looked through many threads, blogs and articles and none seem to have the correct answer. Below are the steps that I have followed and the issue that I run into every time.
    Open Boot Camp Assistant
Select Download the latest Windows support software from Apple
Select Install Windows 7 or later version
Download support software to USB Drive (leave connected)
         Create a Partition (200GB)
Hold Option on Reboot and Select Windows
    Begin the Windows install process
Select Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)
Installation asks: Where do you want to install Windows?
Select Drive 0 partition 4: BOOTCAMP
         Error Message Details:
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style.
Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. Windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS.
Solution I found from many threads is that I need to "Format" the partition. To do so I:
Select Drive 0 Partition 4: BOOTCAMP
         Select Format
Select Drive 0 Partition 4 (No longer titled as BOOTCAMP after the reformat)
              Error Message Details:
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style.
I cant seem to find a solution to this. Any help would be appreciated. I have tried removing all other connected drives and devices, and recreating the partition several times with no luck.
    Machine Info:
    OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
    Mac (27-inch, Late 2013)
Processor: 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
I also have VMware Fusion installed on the machine and already used the Windows installation media to create a virtual machine. Is it possible to transfer my virtual machine to a Boot Camp partition? I did a little research and it looks as though thats not possible (at least not easily) but I figured I'd ask anyway.

Sorry for the delayed response. I'm still working to get a solution so any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
The installation media I purchased is for windows 8.1. Is that the issue? Do I need to install 8 not 8.1?

  • 785GM-E65 can´t install windows or format HDD

i just bought this board and install it with some of my older pc components including my 1TB HDD, it used to have my old windows 7 installation. I installed this board and boot on my old windows 7 installation but when windows logo appear it automatically shuts down and restart, so i thought it was because with the new mobo i need new installation. so i boot from CD whit windows 7, but when it boots and tell me in which drive i want to install windows, no drive appear so i cannot format mi HDD for the new installation.
please need help with this problem

You can not exchange boards and expect Windows to boot.
As for a new installation, make sure the drive isn't connected to a RAID controller, as mostly you need to install extra drivers.
And check if the controller is running in AHCI or IDE mode, but not RAID.

  • Converting iPhone Movies to a Windows Viewable Format?

I have a couple of videos that I recorded on my iPhone 4S (iOS 6.0.1) that I would like to share with family members who are Windows users (7 or XP).  The iPhone created them in ".mov" format.  What is the best way to convert these to a format that works on Windows?  I don't have the Pro version of Quicktime (just the standard install).  I assume there must be a way to do it using VLC.  For the life of me, I can't figure it out.  Any other applications that could be recommended? (preferably, free).  Thanks.

"There is no reason to modify them in the way you want to."
Completely untrue! I own the blu-ray. I own the digital copy. I can get 3 properly compressed movies on my iPhone for each DRM movie. If one wants to put more than a few movies on their iPhone, their hand is forced into learning to work around the system. This is a shame.

To begin with, I've arranged to have your post moved from the Solaris 11 forum to the Solaris 9 forum.
That's the closest arena for questions involving a system running Solaris 8, as you stated in the title of your post.
I think you have a Filezilla issue, not an OS issue.
It's been a very long time since I needed to investigate deep into Filezilla's settings but I recall there's some various choices as to 8-dot-3 versus long-file-name compatibilities.
My various systems with Filezilla installed don't have your issue and they're all installed with what I vaguely remember as its program defaults. When I use the program it is ALWAYS to transfer files back and forth between MSWin and *NIX systems.
You might think about searching for hints and solutions on Filezilla forums/blogs/wikis instead these forums here.
