Windows 7 freezes on start up

I have been using Windows 7 64bits for a while on my iMac 9,1 now, and everything was working fine, until yesterday when I try to start Windows it just freezes right after the Welcome screen or during the start up welcome screen, this happened even after I reinstalled windows. After some looking around, I seem to have find the problem to be that graphic card or the graphic card driver, because if I uninstall the driver in safe mode and restart windows, everything work fine, except windows doesn't use the graphic card. I expect the problem to be the driver because everything work when I boot to Mac and between the last time when windows was working fine and the first time it start freezing, I was using the Mac OS X, meaning the graphic card was working all along, but then why did the driver suddenly fail? anyone else have this problem, anyone how how to solve it? or is there something wrong with my graphic card and I should take it too a apple store?

I believe that you have sorted out it is the graphic card or driver problem. Did you updated drivers for the graphic card recently? It always happens that the new drivers fix something but create something and those fixes usually meant for the newer graphic cards. Try to install or roll back to the previous working drivers to see if it works. If you have back up your system image then restore it. Since you are using Windows 7, the system back up and restore feature works better than Vista and XP, it will be a waste not to use it. It saved me once from installing the whole system and application once.

  • Bootcamp: Windows 7 Freezes Durring Start-Up (2011 iMac)

    Hello folks,
I just inherited a 2011 i7 3.4ghz 8gb RAM Radeon HD 6970m iMac running OS X 10.8 from work, and I'm trying to get Windows 7 working on it. I've used bootcamp on my old iMac (2010) with no issue at all. This time, though, I've run into several problems.
Initially, once Windows started installing, the installation would freeze after the "loading windows files" screen. After shutting down and trying 3 or 4 times, it finally passed the point and I was able to install Windows. Now, however, I'm having a similar problem. Whenever Windows starts, 9 times out of 10, the starting screen freezes at the "starting Windows" screen right before the little Windows 7 graphic pops up (or just after it starts to animate).
I've read that having devices other than the stock keyboard and mouse connected could cause this; unplugged everything extra and it still happens. I've installed all the bootcamp drivers and updates, all of the Windows updates, all of my graphics drivers, and made sure there was nothing in my disk drive. No luck. OS X boots up fine, though.
I've come to my whits' end and could really use some help fixing these start-up issues. Once its succesfully started, it seems to run fine - I'd just like to make it work 100% - like I know it can!
    Thanks in advance,
    -mutedPlatypus

  • Desktop HP Pavillion running Windows 7 freezes on start up

Let's get a few things out of the way right now:
The computer is 3 months old, has never had a problem like this before, no changes have been made to the hardware since purchase and nothing has been downloaded in about two weeks.
there are no CDs or DVDs in any of the drives, and there are no thumb drives or external harddrives plugged in.
    So here's the deal:
I went to bed last night around 1 am and left my computer on. I woke up this morning at 8 to find it had reset itself and was sitting at the startup screen just forzen. So I unplugged my external harddrive and reset it. This time it froze on the start up, but offered start up repair.
And hour later it finished 'loading windows files' and told me if was starting windows, but had no logo. The logo slow formed on the screen and was fully visible in 45 minutes.
An hour after THAT it still hadn't loaded.
I reset it again, went through the same process, still windows wouldn't start up.
The third time, despite doing absolutly nothing differently (and having waited over four hours in loading screens this time) I ended up getting some options such as running the start up repair again, completely formatting my harddrive or booting from a previous point in my computers short but healthy history. I chose to boot from the past (I only had one checkpoint to choose from which was from two days ago) and finally figured that would solve my problems.
    Nope.
Windows tried to start again, failed and the start up screen came back. The files took an hour to 'load' before the whole thing froze on the start up screen for another hour and a half.
Safe mode won't start up, diagonistic show nothing wrong.
I work from home and really need my computer, so please help me resolve this quickly.

    Hello KellyGrady,
Are you able to get the HP logo screen to appear?
If so start up the computer and when you see that screen press the ESC key, this will give you a list of options and one of the options is a diagnostics.
This will check the hard drive and see if there are any problems.
Run the test and post your results.

  • Windows 7 freezing at 'Starting Windows' screen. (GX620)

I had been running Windows 7 since June '09 with no problems. Recently, every time I start windows it gets stuck on the 'starting windows' screen. I've tried reformatting, reinstalling with different versions of Windows 7 and different discs. I've tried swapping the memory and the hard-drive. I've updated the bios.
What is going on? Please help.

I am having this same issue and was wondering if you came up with a solution.
Even when I try to reinstall a fresh copy of Windows 7 the computer locks up after the installation of the initial files.  Then I'm left with a useless barely-installed new system so I am forced to go back to the original one that doesn't work anyway.  Safe mode works just fine, but I can't work in Safe Mode all the time.

  • Windows 8 Freezes after last "Lenovo Settings Update" anytime the pointer goes to a corner

After the most recent "Lenovo Settings Update", my Windows 8 freezes for a few minutes (minimum of two) anytime the pointer hits one of the hot corners.  The system also freezes for a couple of minutes or less when certain apps are started or the mouse clicks on certain apps.  This is a repeatable error.  I can restore the system to the setpoint previous to the "Lenovo Settings Update" and everything works fine.  re-Install the update and the problem comes back.  The system also freezes for 5-10 seconds when an e-mail message comes in and the notification appears.  Also happens under other different circumstances but the worst is when the mouse pointer goes to any "Hot Corner".  I can reset the system to the last restore point and have everything work fine but anytime I go to "Lenovo Settings", it forces the update which then creates this problem.
Has anyone else seen this issue?  I have all the updates for Windows 8 and Lenovo installed including all new Bios updates that are published.  The model is  a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge S320u (otherwise known as the "Twist". The error is repeatable in all screen modes, tablet modes and multiple monitor modes.
For now I will go back to the latest restore point but would like to see the issue resolved.
    Thanks.
    Bob

I had the exact same issue with the same computer (Thinkpad Twist)! Am very happy to have come accross this page through a web search.
After installing some updates through Lenovo Update App (because of a message that critical updates are available on the Lenovo Support App from Startscreen), my whole system would freeze for about two minutes when moving the cursor over any corner. This is very troublesome not only because it effectively disables the Windows 8 "hot corners" (which I didn't use much anyway, preferring to launch the tasks thus accessible differently), but mostly because it is necessary at times to access the corners, notably to close any document, webpage or other instance of any program that was open in full screen (which usually all of my docs/programs are, considering the Twist's small screensize...).
Afer reading rbagnall's post I first tried uninstalling updates through the Lenovo Update center. But there, once installed, updates don't seem to be removable. Why Lenovo? You can look at the list of installed updates but not make any change. Now I have followed rbagnall's advice and restored my computer with a restore point, sufficiently far back, as I didn't know exactly which update caused this. It worked! Not exactly pleasant, because I had to reinstall some programs and change some settings again, but the problem got resolved.
I went further and tried to see which update causes this by installing them one by one and seeing when the problem appears. The culprit seems to be "Display Mode Orientation Update for Windows 8". One needs to install the "Lenovo Power Management Driver" with it (which is actually listed under optional updates, whereas the Display Mode update is shown as a critical one, but the former is selected automatically when the later is chosen, and one cannot unselect it, a message appears then that it is necessary for the other update). So it could be that one as well (haven't checked whether installing it without the Display Mode update creates the same problem). In any case, once these are installed, the problem appears.
I have now restored my PC again to the restore point, and haven't installed any Lenovo update, not even the other critical one, as I don't know what it's for (Critical patch to fix TVSU UTS issue - I haven't had this issue, and any web entries on this I found dated back to 2009). In the optional updates there is also a BIOS update, which I had installed previously, but I don't know what it's for either. If there is anything terribly useful in either (or other optional updates), please tell me.
For now I have uninstalled the Lenovo Support Startscreen App (which seems to be more annoying than helpful), and will refrain from updating any Lenovo drivers from now, which seems to do more harm than good (everything was working fine before the update)...

  • Windows is freezing.

Hi, Windows is freezing on my boot camp setup.
It's not a blue screen, the screen just freezes and my only option is to hard reboot the machine.
Upon reboot, Windows does not have any crash dumps to report.
I already ran a RAM test using mdsched.exe and no memory errors were found.
I am running Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise x64, Boot Camp 3.2, on a MacBook 5,1 model with 4GB of RAM.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try next?
I'm about to install Win7 x86 just to see if it works better...

  • Download Itunes 10 64bit with Windows 7 "Freezes"

I have attempted downloading Itunes 10 64bit on my new ASUS PC with Windows 7. It starts to download then "Freezes" at about 20-25mbs. I am using agood broadband connection. Is the software available on anyother media ie: CD rom?

I have iTunes 10.2.1 running on ASUS Win7 64 bit.
After the upgrade to iTunes 10.2.1 I had major problems syncing. I had not had issues previously. I keep my iPhone locked but previously I could just plug it in and iTunes would start and the iPhone would sync. Now I have had many error messages, such as:
A folder was specified instead of a file.
A duplicate file name was specified.
    An internal device error occurred.
The required file cannot be found.
    An unknown error occurred (0xE8004006)
There are too many files open currently.
iTunes could not back up the iPhone "myphone" because the backup session failed.
A connection could not be established to the iPhone.
Not all errors occurred at once, but during the many hours I worked on the issues. My troubleshooting went in this order:
shut down iPhone and try again to resync -- still received connect errors.
reset iPhone (hold down top button and home button about 10 seconds) -- still errors.
deauthorize and reauthorize my computer -- still issues.
uninstall all apple programs in an order specified by apple and download and install the latest version of iTunes (latest was already installed, but reinstalled it) -- still errors.
Then I saw an entry by someone about unlocking the iPhone. I did this before connecting the iPhone to the computer and it connected. However, I still had other errors.
I configured iTunes to not sync with Outlook email, calendar, notes, etc. Only synced with Contacts. I also unchecked many of the apps to be synced. I finally got it to back up and complete a sync (according to the iTunes message). However, my Outlook contacts did not sync properly. That is, a new Outlook entry did not come across. Maybe other issues but not sure yet.
Also, the iTunes sync is very, very slow and iTunes appears to freeze during the sync. That is, the iTunes window cannot be repositioned and if I open another window and close/minimize it, the image remains on top of the iTunes window and does not clear.
Bottom line, it appears to sync now but with limited results. My apps now work after the second somewhat successful sync whereas after the first sync an app would open and then immediately close (except for the bundle of apps that came with the iPhone). I am not satisfied and all is not well. I am still experimenting and trying to regain all functionality.

  • Transfering files from Windows machine freezes my wi-fi connection

Guys, this is very weird, and it started to happen a week ago.
I use finder to connect to my windows machine on my home network, and after typing my password, I get access to the folder in the windows machine that I want.
The problem is: any file I try to transfer FROM or TO the windows PC freezes up mac os X after some seconds of transfer ... like a 60 mb file, it freezes after 20mb have been transfered ... and that's not only it ...
It freezes mac os x until I get the message "Connection to server LOST", and I only can get back on the network if I literally shut down my wi-fi router, because my macbook simply can't get DNS ip assigned again, it always auto-assign some weird ip and doesn't come back to the network till I restart my wi-fi router.
What in the **** may be going on ? Remember, it started to happen lately, it was not like this before !

  • Bootcamp 'Glowing' windows logo freeze after gfx driver install

Bootcamp 'Glowing' windows logo freeze after gfx driver install
Last week suddenly, after having changed or installed nothing, trying to boot into windows resulted in a frozen glowy window logo 'Starting Windows', which resulted in having to format the windows partition.
Since then I've found out that I can do everything except install gfx drivers.
I've installed firefox, all bootcamp drivers except gfx, swtor (doesn't run of course, but installs fine), quicktime, rebooting is fine after all this...
But as soon as I install any kind of graphics driver and reboot, it freezes at the glowy window logo.
    I have tried;
    The bootcamp included gfx driver
    Windows Update included gfx driver
    Official nVidia latest beta driver
    Official nVidia latest whql driver
    Official nVidia oldest whql driver
    nVidia Cuda driver, both versions
    All give the same result
I have formatted the entire harddrive and written zeros and made the windows partition in a physically different location to make sure it's not a harddrive issue, no luck.
I have tried both Windows 7 x86 and x64 with matching drivers, same results.
Tried booting with no devices attached, no luck.
This all seems to me like a bust gfx card, were it not that under Lion everything works fine, even gaming (WoW).
Techtool Pro's test machine shows no errors.

I am running Lion on a Mac Mini Server wherein I placed a Bootcamp partition and installed Windows 7 Ultimate. I've been testing Windows Media Center using a CableCard Tuner installed in a SiliconDust HomeRun box.
All was well until I received a Windows notification of an NVIDIA driver update. After the update, I now freeze at the same point that you do in the Windows startup splash screen.
I rolled back the driver using the Windows control panel associated with the device. Still freezes.
Windows repair does not have a fix. I can't get windows to start in "safe mode" so I can remove the additional apps that NVIDIA installed during the update.
I'm certain the freeze is associated with the NVIDIA driver.

  • I have been using pse11 on wondows vista and it has certainly started freezing on starting and I am unable to access the organizer, the editor is ok. Have removed and reinstalled but is the same have changed the files as suggested. Have been unable to ope

I am using pse 11 0n windows vista for years and it has suddenly started freezing on starting, I am now unable to access the organizer it freezes on the blue screen, the editor can be opened. Have removed and reinstalled but is still occurring. Have changed the files as suggested, am unable to open as administrator

'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Z10 freezes during start up

My z10 freezes during start up. First I can see the red led on, then the BB logo and "blackberry" on the screen and it stays there forever.
I have tried to update the OS, using BB update software option, at which after resetting my Z10 the green led stays on, though I cannot update it, getting the error message "error downloading Blackberry Desktop Software".
Any ideas ? I need to recover information in the phone's internal memory.
    Thank you !!!

So I did the Disc Utility, and the disc was sucessfully repaired. I restarted the iMac and got to exactly the same place as before: "Login window started" where it froze again. I turned it of, restarted in Safe Mode and it froze at the same spot.
Is the next step to try reinstalling the OSX? I didn't see an option to install in place ie leave all my files intact. There's an "Archive and install" option. Does this just archive the system folder and erase all my other files. I'm pretty much backed up but I'd much prefer not to erase the files if I can avoid it.
    Thanks

  • X-Fi Xtreme Audio + Windows 7 = Freeze

&X-Fi Xtreme Audio + Windows 7 = Freeze@ So after installing Windows 7 64bit Build 700, I downloaded the beta drivers and installed them.
I went into the Audio/Sound options and selected the proper drivers to use for audio.
The first time I did this, I had no issues, for about a week, then my PC would begin to freeze randomly. No blue screen, just a freeze. Everytime I rebooted the PC, it would get to the login screen, and freeze just as it loaded, or after i entered my login info.
    /reformated.
Did it again, had the same issues, but instead of reformatting, so i started using safe mode which worked, and
I started removing all my drivers I had installed, once I got to the audio driver, everything worked correctly. So i disabled the card and removed the drivers and i'm now using my onboard sound (which is fine) but that's not the point.
I tried searching , but wasn't able to find anything similar. I realized new drivers have been released, but I don't know if i want to risk all the freezing.
Do you know if this is something that was addressed?

#Did this happen right after you install the sound card new or did this happen out of the blue?
