Windows 7, Home Sharing error 3253

I just bought Apple TV Model MD 199E/A SW level 5.1.1(5433).
I'm trying to activa the home sharing function on my PC (Gateway with Windows 7 Home Premium Serv Pack 1), so thatI can start using the Apple TV gadget  & can not get past error code -3253 while attempting to activate the fucntion.
The info thatI pretend to share is in a Time Capsule 802.11n 4th generation vers 7.6.1
What do I need to do??
Thanks for your help

I was able to resolve my issue. Here's how:
Did a lot of research on this. I have a Linksys WRT120N router where the only device not on Wifi was my Windows 7 PC (it was plugged in with an Ethernet cable while everything else was on Wifi). Having fiddled with the router settings to no avail, I went out and bought a Wireless USB adapter to put the Windows 7 PC on Wifi.
When I set that up, I could now see my Windows 7 library on the Apple TVs. However, when I went into the library, it was stuck on "Loading Library" in perpetuity.
I looked in my list of Windows services running (Start -> Control Panel -> Search for "Services") and noticed that, even though I disabled the Windows Firewall in the System and Security settings, the Windows Firewall service was still running. I disabled the service (right click -> properties) and restarted the computer. Voila, it works now.
It is possible that the problem was the Windows Firewall service (not the Wireless), but I've read countless posts where people had issues with the devices being on wired and Wifi and not seeing each other. As such, I haven't (and don't plan to) tested it back with just the Ethernet cable. If you're having my issue, you can try that first.
I should also note that when this wasn't working, I was also unable to use my iPhone to pair as a remote with iTunes. It would pair but the iPhone would be stuck in "Looking for" when I tried to control the library. This is now also fixed after doing the above.
Hope this helps anyone else frustrated out there.

How do I resolve home sharing error -3259?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
This alert is often the result of iTunes being blocked by firewalls on the computer.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Try turning off your Firewall to see if the issue is resolved (this includes the built-in Firewall or a third-party Firewall such as Norton Personal Firewall, McAfee, Symantec, etc.). See iTunes: Music Sharing does not work if Firewall is on for steps if using Mac OS X.
If there's no firewall or security software interference, try to remove proxy settings.

  • ITunes and Windows 8 Home Sharing (Possible Fix)

If this fix has been posted elsewhere then I apologize, but I wanted to share what I stumbled on as a possible for for iTunes Home Sharing and Windows 8. I did a lot of port forwarding, both on my router and my Norton firewall, but nothing seemed to help. After a few minutes my Apple TV and iOS devices would stop seeing my iTunes library. The only way to fix it was to reboot the router.
On a whim I looked in my Device Manager and found under Network Adapters a device called Microsoft Kernel Debug Network Adapter. I disabled this, rebooted my computer, and have since no issues with Home Sharing. It's only been a few hours, but that is the longest I've gone since installing Windows 8. I'll look in the morning to see if it still works.
So give this method a try and see what happens. Hopefully it will fix your problems.

Here are the three steps I took to get Home Sharing working successfully on Apple TV. This has worked for the better part of a week so hopefully it will work well for others.
In your software firewall create two new Inbound Rules. Open port 3689 (TCP) and port 5353 (UDP) to All Programs.
If your hard drive goes to sleep after a certain period, be sure to change to something greater than 30 min. (Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change Plan Settings -> Change Advanced Power Settings -> Hard disk -> Turn off hard disk after -> Setting)
On your Apple TV change when it goes to sleep. I changed mine to 10 hours.
This seems to keep the connection alive. On occassion it will look like it gets stuck loading, but just let it go. At some point it wil kick on. If you generates a connection error just try loading the media again and it should start.

You guys are not alone here. I have a win vista that does not want to activate home sharing. The problem is that I have two other vistas and one xp that work fine. I contacted support but it was no help, the person who replied couldn't give me any info on error 5510. I'm going to wait to see if the next update will fix this. If anyone know how to get rid of this error and make home sharing work, please be kind and post

  • -3259 Home Sharing Error

I was getting the error message -3259 when trying to turn on Home Sharing oniTunes. I am running Windows 7 64 bit and iTunes 10.5.2.11
Here is what worked for me.
1). Find your iTunes library. This is the folder where all your music is stored. Open iTunes, go to “Edit” main menu then got to “Advanced” and look for “iTunes Media folder location”. This is where your music is stored. Copy this folder name.
2). In Windows, go to this location. You should be looking at the “iTunes” folder in Windows. Right click on the iTunes folder. Scroll down till you see “Share with”, then select “Specific people”. Use the pull-down and select “Everyone”. This will take a few minutes. Here is an excellent video on how to do this:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/share-files-with-someone
3). Next go to iTunes. Make sure you RESTART iTunes!!! If you do not do this will not work. After restarting iTunes go to “Advanced “ menu and “Turn on HomeSharing”. You will then get a message “Home Sharing is now on”. It may take afew minutes before you get the message.
    Hope this helps:

I spent some time working on this and realized I had made some changes to the Firewall using the command line. By entering this command, I was able to clear out the Firewall settings and everything wordked as designed.
    sudo /sbin/ipfw -f flush

  • Windows 8 home sharing does not work anymore

look iv'e tried it all .. every suggestion in the book , ethernet settings i have windows 8 and now home sharing no longer works,
i'm so frustrated now, please don't ask me to repeat anything you've heard ar tried before i've tried ir
    clean up .net
    turn off ipv6
    reinstall itunes
i've always had apple products and i really feel i'm at the end now. as soon as you upgrade something apple .. it hurts you, why o why do they do this??? my mind just boggles,
"lets make it crapper!!!" thats what they say at upgrade meetings,
no music throughout my house now, so annoyed,
i'm moving to nexus tablets phones and chromecast, i really have had it wasting my time fixing apple's crap that worked fine till i "upgraded"
sorry for rant just at the end of my tether

Home Sharing works once after I start iTunes on the Mac.
Next time I want to watch a film, it justs hangs and says it cannot connect to my iTunes library.
I have the same issue on 5 ATVs round the house (some wired some wireless), I have tried fixed and DHCP IP addressing, I have moved the Mac to be on the same switch as one of the ATVs and  the problem is still there.
I have tried a different Mac running Mountain Lion and the same thing happens.
At the moment in order to watch a film I have to use Remote Desktop to log onto the Mac and stop and start iTunes then the ATV sees the library. Watch film. Move to other room, fire up ATV no library, use Remote Desktop, rinse and repeat....frustrating isn't the word.

  • Windows 7 Home Sharing Problem (wireless/ Ethernet)

    Hello
I spent a few days trying to figure out why home sharing didn't work. I've got 2 windows 7 pc. So comptuer A can detect computer B iTunes library but computer B cannot detect computer A library although the settings such as allow sharing on iTunes preferences are all checked.
Comptuer A was connected using ethernet cable and computer B was using wireless. Both are desktop at different location of the house connected to the same network.
So when I insert an wireless adaptor to Comptuer A and conects it wirelessly to my router, the homesharing appears. Whereas when i connect it with an ethernet cable, it fails.
Is there anyway to troubleshoot this issue?

  • ITunes 9 Home Sharing Error (-42408)

I have a MacBook Pro 17" 2.16GHz, Core Duo, Snow Leapord, iTunes 9.2 that I am trying to turn on Home Sharing.
Although I can authorize the MBP, when I try to activate Home Sharing, I get an iTunes Store error (-42408).
I NEED to use iTunes 9 because it is the last version of iTunes that will display non-square podcast imbeded images properly - full screen without letterboxing to a square display.
The reason I need Home Sharing turned on is so I can play videos residing on the MBP on an iPad v1 iOS5.
Can anyone tell me why I am getting this error and what (if anything) I can do to get Home Sharing turned on?
    TIA

OK, I think I just found a clue to my problem.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4557
Seems that at this time, I need iTunes 10.2 to Home Share with iOS 5+ devices, even though it is an available option in iTunes 9.2, it no longer works with the iTunes Store.
    Sigh....

  • HP Pavilion dv6 Windows 10 upgrade from Windows 7 Home Prem; Error code 0xC1900101

Have been trying to upgrade to Windows 10 (from Windows 7 Home Prem 64 bit). However, the upgrade fails showing an error code 0xC1900101. Tried uninstalling MCafee Antivirus and upgrading, but that fails too. Also, checked and installed all 'other' available system updates and tried. But no luck.During the installation process, the failure occurs when the system has finished copying and is in the process of installing drivers (that is, after the second restart). I have noticed that the 'installing drivers' process was also almost 90% complete. Once the second restart process begins, the system hangs and processor keeps running (and so does the cooling fan, at its highest speed). Earlier, had heating problems which used to hibernate my system during this process, but have fixed that now. And I get this new error message (in the subject above).Guess, the issue occurs when the system is trying to install drivers or when it is trying to upgrade its configuration. Need help!

I dunno if this is related but I had an error as well during the upgrade on an HP DV5. You can find more information on the error if you analyze the dump file (.dmp) found in the Windows.BT folder right after the upgrade fails. You can use a utility like BlueScreenView. In my case, the upgrade crashed at around 75% of the total process (when configuring settings). Analyzing the dump file showed that the error was caused by a driver named 000.fcl, related to Cyberlink and their DVD player. Turns out this is used in the HP QuickPlay feature. After removing HP Quick Play, the upgrade proceeded as normal. Hope it helps anyone with a similar problem !
