Windows 7 install on Mac Mini

I try to install Windows 7 on Mac mini using optical drive of my iMac but says 'cd not found'. Is it impossible to do it this way, do I need An external drive for  the Windows install DVD?

Hi wb2009,
I haven't found that the TV would be an issue, but did find an article that states to not have extra USB devices connected.
Boot Camp: Windows installation boots to black screen with blinking cursor
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4536
The Windows installation may boot to a black screen with a blinking cursor. This can occur if you use a USB optical drive or USB Flash drive for the Windows installation and another USB device is also connected to the computer.
There's another article that mentions Windows XP or Vista that may apply.

  • Trying to install Windows 7 on Mac Mini Mid2011

Am trying to install Windows 7 on Mac Mini (Mid 2011) OS X Mountian Lion (10.8.2) - 2.3GHz/i5/4GB/500GB with external optical drive attached. Using Windows 7 Ultimate (on USB Flash Drive) and Windows Support Software (on separate USB Flash Drive), as the external optical drive is not recognized when Boot Camp restarts to begin installation process. Here are some issues I am having:
    Going through BCA, when selecting the new partition to install on (Disk 0 Partition 4 BOOTCAMP), the warning of "cannot be installed...", so I select  Drive Options (advanced)/Format. Drive is reformatted to the NTSF, but loses the BOOTCAMP name. (Reformats to UNTITLED);
Installation of Windows 7 proceeds, until after its third restart and the color bar with the light burst at its center appears at the bottom of the screen with messages stating "Preparing....". The computer then reboots and starts this endless boot loop.
As it never gets to the part where the Windows Support Software is engaged, can I have both the Windows 7 Ultimate installation and the WSS on the same USB?
I have been researching this issue, but with no difinitive solutions (other than snarky "You obviously didn't read the prior post for this issue..." & "Don't people READ previous posts?" responses.), other than one rude reply saying this was a known issues and there is a fix/driver for it, but no reference as to where this fix resides.
Please if anyone has a solution, I would be very grateful for serious and considerate answers. If you feel the need to be rude/snarky/downright unhelpful, don't reply. This is a community help page, not your venting page.
Thank you in advance for all serious replies.

Right now I have 6 different systems installed. Windows XP, 7, and 8 plus Linux Mint, Commodore, and OS X Snow Leopard (for old times sake), all running on Mountain Lion.
I recommend reading the user manual as it greatly helps getting through the steps, however an intuitive person should pick it up fairly easily.
Thanks to BobTheFisherman for the link.
There are other ways to get Windows on a Mac but I'm a big fan of open-source software.
Give it a try. You might like it or it may not be your cup of tea.

  • How to install windows on 2011 mac mini

how do I install windows 7 onto mac mini? I have read people say to copy windows onto a flashdrive.  Then install from that.  Question is do I use my iMac to copy windows install DVD to flashdrive, then plug flashdrive into my mac mini and finish install with bootcamp?

If you want, instead of using a USB drive with the Windows installer (and as you have Windows in a DVD and not in a ISO file), I recommend you to buy an external optical drive to use it to install Windows on the Mac mini. Any external optical drive will work.

  • I downloaded and installed the: Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.6 on my mac mini running 10.8.1, was I correct in doing this ?

I downloaded and installed the: Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.6 on my mac mini running 10.8.1, was I correct in doing this ?
I didn't see this update come up in "Software Update"
If I was not meant to install this update, would it cause ANY damage at all to my mac ( this is my second as I dropped the first )
If I were to re-install ML would this fix any errors that this may have caused ?
The bottom of the page I link to says:
Boot ROM or SMC Version Information: MM51.0077.10
But when I click on "About this Mac" it says:
    Boot ROM Version:          MM51.0077.B10
      SMC Version (system):          1.75f0
What does the additional "B" mean?
My mac mini is the Mid 2011 Model.
I am sorry if I am sounding super paranoid about this, but I don't want to have caused any permanent damage.

    Hello,
It's somewhere between almost impossible & impossible to install the wrong EFI Update with all the checks it does!

Not sure what the B means.

No, Firmware is unaffected by any OS change or re-install.

Photoshop Elements 11 installed on Mac Mini OS X 10.9.5. Application running successfully on bot main user and administrative accounts for considerable time with no warning messages. When established a new user account on same computer and try to call up elements receive message “Some ot the application components are missing from the Application directory. Please reinstall the application.” How do I correct this problem without disturbing application in main user account?

Brooks lansing if you create a new Administrator account does the same issue occur?  If so then it is likely that there is a file permission failure and file permissions have been set for the existing Users instead of the groups they belong to.
Have you removed and reinstalled Photoshop Elements 11?  This may reset the file permissions to the correct state to allow it to work under new accounts.

No idea if Windows will do it, but you can run Windows without Bootcamp & have OSX available at the same time, which should give you all the Monitors that OSX uses.

  • Can't Print from Windows Vista Notebook to Printer installed in Mac Mini

I have a home network that is connected to the internet by DSL. My Printer Xerox Phaser 3115 is installed to the Mac Mini.
From my Vista Notebook, I can see the printer shared by my Macmini. However, I can't print coz the printer says "access denied". I installed this Bonjour for Windows in order to print but it says "No Bonjour Printers are available".
    Please help me! Thanks!

On Windows, after either method of setup, change the driver (on PC) to Apple Color LaserWriter. Apple print queues expect postscript as input.
If this is unsatisfactory, you can create a RAW queue on the Mac (only for sharing the printer, because it will have no driver associated):

  • Problems Installing Windows 7 on Mac Mini

Hello everyone!  So I am attempting to instal Windows 7 on my Mac Mini and I am very confused.  Apples guide isn't as descreptive as I would hope and the options for alternative methods are mixed in with what is necessary and isn't worded well if you as me.  I have read other guides but hit a road block.   Currently I have a new Mac Mini with Mountain Lion 10.8.3, I have a retail copy of Windows 7 DVD with a new key, I have an Apple SuperDrive and I have a USB flash drive with the Bootcamp 5 support software.
I guess the first and important question is:  Is that all I need?  Apple's guide lists additonal/alternate things I will need that confused me.
Next:  I attempted it with what I had.  I only selected Install Windows 7, partioned my harddrive.  That went smoothly.  It then rebooted and started Windows installation.  I selected Custom install, I selected the boot camp partion, format the partion but then received an error message that read "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition.  See the Setup log files for more information"  I read a few post regarding that stating to remove all external harddrives which I did.  All I have plugged in is the power cord, hdmi cable, and the superdrive and I am still getting the error.  Any help getting past this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Installing Windows 7 on Mac mini 2014

    Hi,
i stuck trying to install Windows 7 on a Mac mini 2014. It is connected to a monitor using the DP-to-VGA-Adaptor.
I tried both, installing from (original) Windows-DVD and from a USB-Stick (always following the Bootcamp Installation procedure).
But during the required reboot to the windows installation, the monitor will stay black and enter the sleep mode. It seems to be a display driver problem.
Is there anyone, who can help me?

Finally, i was able to solve the problem:
the problem was the DP-to-VGA-Adaptor. I connected the mini to my TV using HDMI and got a picture from the Windows installer !
    Thank you for helping me!

  • How do i install windows on my mac mini

The newer Mac mini's don't have an optical drive. I have a Samsung external dvd drive but i don't know if i need to have the "Superdrive" and will mine work when installing.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
On a Mac without a built-in optical drive, any external optical drive will work to install Windows. If you have Windows on a DVD, insert the DVD, open Boot Camp Assistant (it's stored in /Applications/Utilities) and follow its steps.
If you want all the steps to install Windows, select the Boot Camp file that belongs to the OS X version you have > http://support.apple.com/manuals/#bootcamp

  • Black screen during windows 7 install on mac mini

I have a mac mini 2013.  Trying to install windows 7 via usb iso file.  downloaded iso file to mac mini desktop from windows supported site.  This is a 30 trial that can be installed after 30 with a genuine key, which I plan on buying.  8 gb usb stick.  dloaded latest updates for OS and bootcamp.  Ran bootcamp.  pointed to iso file.  partitioned 200GB fro windows 7 home version.  clicked advanced and formatted disk for bootcamp..(  load driver was also available, what is that??)
checked ALL 3 options BTW.  It expands and loads files every time and gets to install select lang...etc.  then computer restarts and hangs at black screen.  caps and num lock light up when pressed, no other response.  I can boot to safe mode in Windows but it say it has to return to normal mode to finish install, which then returns me to black screen.  I can reboot to white apple screen with disk options and choose usb drive and it says loading files, then goes back to starting windows, windows logo appears, then black screen and just sits there have waited 30 minutes and nothing.  I have read this could be a graphics driver issue? If so is there a way to force the support drivers to load, and how?  this is for my Son and we have tried for a couple months with no luck, does the trial version have anything to do with it?  I would pay for a windows 7 iso file download but no luck.

  • How to install window 7 on mac mini ?

how to install window 7 on my mac mini?

    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
         1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows
XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  For Boot Camp
4.0 and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the
computer into OS X or Windows.
         2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software
virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
             with OS X.
         3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that
enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
         4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
applications without having to install Windows.  The
Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
         5. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
             Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Benchmarks of all of the above except Crossover can be found in Benchmarking Parallels, Fusion, and VirtualBox Against Boot Camp - The Mac Observer. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.
