Windows 7 install ruined my Sync ability
Due to outside issues, I needed to rebuild my laptop. I had Win XP sp3, BB DM6.0.1.18, office 2007 prof plus, and EVERYTHING worked perfectly. After rebuilding the laptop to Win 7 x32, installing Office 2010 (not click to run) and downloading the latest DM (6.0.1.18 again), I am unable to get anything to work.
My BB info: Bold 9650
Carrier: US Cellular
version: 6.0.0.436 Platform 4.4.0.315
I've been following several forums, trying various things that others have tried, with no luck, so I'm turning here now. Today, I removed DM from my laptop, making sure to run a registry cleaner to remove all little tags. I re-installed DM 6 from the download I saved last week. The BB Device manager sees the phone plugged into the computer. DM recognizes that it has been plugged in too. When I try to set up the Sych Config, I get the box "operation in progress. please wait..." until I get the error window pop up saying that I need to be connected to the internet. I am on a corporate network right now, we have internet connectivity.
I first checked the windows firewall ports for BB software, all ports were enabled. I disablede the firewall for this connection, problem still occurs. I have checked registry permissions for HKEY local and HKEY Current.
My Antivirus software is Lightspeed Security Agent. I have had that running for 2 years and never had it block anything BB related in the previous year, so it doesn't appear to be related to the issue.
I am at the end of my rope here, is there anything else I can do?? I work in the IT Dept, rather, I AM the IT Dept, so I do know how to work a computer. I would greatly appreciate any help I can get.

How do I use existing sync key after Windows clean install?
Hi,
I had setup Firefox Sync on my old Windows 7 install and I have the Sync Key given during the set up. I had to clean install (format C drive) my Windows.
Is there any way I can use the old Sync Key to get all my bookmarks and stuff back? The problem has resolved itself...
...despite spending several pointless hours trying to delete the existing BootCamp drivers without success, I finally restarted Windows yet again - and this time I was easily able to delete the existing drivers.
I then restarted my Mac, installed the latest drivers without issue and it all works just fine.

i got a new lenovo desktop windows 8.1,installed itunes and synced my iphone 4 no problems. then i imported a cd of songs which showed up in recently added but not in main library ,therefore it did not sync to the iphone. how can i get new songs to appear in the main library and sync properly
thanks
johnCheck the songs are really not in the Music section of the library by clicking the magnifying glass in the search box and unticking Search Entire Library if it is ticked, then typing in the name of the album. If the tracks still don't show try closing iTunes and deleting a hidden file called sentinel from inside your iTunes folder. This should make iTunes run an integrity check on the database when you start it again. Make sure the tracks are checked before you try syncing again.

CS5 Design Premium Windows Upgrade Install Failure
Hi,
I have been trying since receiving CS5 Design Premium upgrade (3 set DVD) for Windows yesterday to install it on my Windows 7 64 bit computer, without success. I have been on the phone several times for several hours with Adobe support with no successful solution. The support person has escalated the case to the next level, which I am told will take a few days to get to my case. Ugh!
In the meanwhile, I have tried most possible solutions in these forum threads, none so far has succeeded.
I've tried removing CS4 Design Premium first, tried to install from a downloaded trial version with and without using serial number. I've tried selective start-up, am the only user with administrative rights, but am right-clicking as administrator to launch anyway. I've installed the latest MS Visual C redistributable, used the CS 4 (when CS4 was removed) and CS5 clean scripts. Since the Adobe Install Advisor early on suggested fixing the color profiles (though this referred to CS4 which had been removed at that point), I followed that knowledge base guide. I extracted the trial download to the C drive and tried to install from there. All to no joy.
From checking the install logs, a second error with an error return of 3 is
Microsoft_VC90_ATL_x86: Install failed. This seems to be the only error return 3. This error was why I installed the latest VC redistributable and why I tried to extract and boot the trial download from the C drive instead of the desktop. Unfortunately, didn't help.
One interesting note: when I have uninstalled CS4 (which was an upgrade to CS3 which is no longer installed), even with deactivating and checking the box to remove old serial numbers, the CS5 upgrade installer does not ask for a qualifying serial number, just the new upgrade's serial number. So, it must be finding something from CS4?
I also read on this forum that someone succeeded by going to the downloaded trial version's payload folder and separately running each MS msi (install, repair, uninstall) which then fixed them. While the first 3 worked fine, what I found is that the fourth msi that I tried to run in the payload folder failed to fully run and install. So, there must be something broken in that msi. I didn't go to the fifth, but it is possible that a few of the msi installers in the payload are not working. I also went to the same msi in the installation DVD's payload folder: it also failed to run fully and rolled back. Same problem. The broken msi: Microsoft_VC80_CRT_x86_x64. Error message 1935:
HRESULT: 0x80073712. Component: 844EFBA7-1C24-93B2-A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E
I am not sure how to fix broken msi's? I checked permissions: the msi's have correct permissions. I have the Windows Installer 5 on my Windows 7 x 64 computer.
At this point, I've run out of possible remedies.
The error log follows. I am hoping someone can suggest a solution to get CS5 upgrade installed.
Kind Regards,
saratogacoach

Hi all, i can't sync over wifi between my iPhone 4 and Windows 7 64 bit, wifi sync works with the same phone and my Windows 8 machine so the problem seems confined to Windows 7. I've tried solutions from other threads -
Making sure everything is allowed through firewall
Rebooting phone/laptop/router
Disabling ipv6
Disabling all networks except the one curently on
Re-installing iTunes
Restoring iPhone
No luck with any of those unfortunately so i just thought i'd see if anyone else is still without wifi sync after trying those as well and if you ever found a fix, thanks.I just wanted to leave a note that it's working now. I'm not sure if it was the latest iTunes update that got it working or that i decided to start a new library instead of using the one i had backed up on Windows 8 (it didn't occur to me to check using the old library when i re-installed iTunes). But if anyone is having this problem, it might be worth trying again with a new installation of iTunes to see if the latest update works for you, and if not, try using a fresh library instead of a backup (by fresh library i mean discard your old library completely and start a new library, not just restore as new iPhone, a whole new library).

This happens to me and to two friends of mine. So it's hardly a coincidence.
I have done a fresh Windows 7 install (for other reasons) so I thought this problem (which I had since about version 8.0) would disappear. I was wrong.
Firefox and plugins are updated:
Firefox 13.0
Shockwave Flash 11.3 r300
GPU video drivers are also updated.
I came across the "plugin-container.exe solution" but it didn't solve the problem.
How to reproduce the bug.
Visit Youtube and click on some video. Minimize Firefox. Wait some seconds. Next time you restore the window Firefox crashes, you have to kill plugin-container.exe from the task manager OR you have to restart the entire browser in case you've disabled the plugin container.
The same bug should occur when having various tabs open and one of them is Youtube with a video playing. But also when Firefox has no focus and you have other windows on top of it (and a Flash video running or even paused).
Since this does happen:
-with a fresh install;
-with everything updated;
-even disabling the plugin controller;
it seems very very strange to me that this problem is STILL present since version 8.0 (or even before) and that there is so few reports of this bug around the internet.
I'm not complaining here, I'm just showing my perplexity about almost noone having this bug which is ruining my (and my friends') Firefox experience since the past years.
My purpose here is:
* to let you know about this problem;
* to know if other are experiencing it;
* hopefully to keep giving support to this thread and answer to your questions about this bug so to help this thing being fixed; For problems that occurred with Flash 11.2 and earlier, you might want to consider disabling graphics hardware acceleration in both Flash and Firefox.
'''Flash'''
Right-click any video in Flash Player and choose Settings.
Clear the checkbox for "Enable hardware acceleration"
'''Firefox'''
Save all work (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
Restart Firefox. -
Brand new computer with Windows 8.1 will not sync to iPod Classic 120G. Windows does not recognize anything but iPod Touch? Is there a simple solution. Diagnostics have run and failed to point to a fix.
Might be worth tearing down the whole iTunes install and starting over...
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and paste into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

Cant uninstall iPod for windows before Installing 7.0.2
Im using Windows XP. When I tried to install iTunes 7.0.2, it told me to uninstall previous iTunes software which I did. Then during installation is out up error message cant install until I uninstall previous iPod software. I have a program called iPod for Windows listed, but no matter what I do in the Delete Program it wont uninstall. Cant go any further. I also uninstalled Quicktime already from a related topic.
Thanks in advance.I finally gave up on iTunes 7. After uninstalling iTunes 7 and reinstalling iTunes 6, my iPod became more reliable and Windows XP would consistently mount it. Even though iTunes 7 is well conceived, I founded considerably slower than version 6. The slowdown becomes apparent when iTunes automatically starts with connecting an iPod. Syncing the iPod with a large music database will cause a slowdown; even a crash.
I do not believe that iTunes is multi-threading well on Windows XP. My other syncing applications do not put a strain on my computer’s resources. My computer handles Photoshop 10 megapixel processing and a 2 gigs bi-directional sync over my network without a hiccup. iTune grinds my computer to a halt with just a 2 gigs syncing to the iPod. In addition, all startup items were disabled in the troubleshooting process.
Even though features like the Summary tabs and view by album art appeal to me, I will hold off on the iTunes 7 upgrade in place of speed and reliability. I have a couple recommendations as well. These suggestions are for people with large music databases and a large number of hard drive and firewire devices.
TURN ON – Automatically update selected playlist only
TURN OFF – Open iTunes when this iPod is attached
If you restore you iPod, leave your computer alone for several hours while iTunes fills up a large capacity iPod. It took me all weekend to reload my iPod. -
Windows Vista install disk for my Mac?
I have just installed Windows vista onto my Mac but when using boot camp it only gives me the option of creating a Windows 7 install disk. Does anybody know where I can get a Windows Vista install disk? Thanks
No doubt if you Google for it you will find vendors. Check with amazon.com, too.

Customise your Windows XP install CD
If you currently only own a legit Windows XP Home or Pro CD, which is either original or SP1a integrated, when it comes to doing a new install or a repair install, having to reinstall SP2 again can be a bit of a pain, not to mention another lengthy procedure
So why not make yourself an updated XP SP2 disc, so at least if you have to reinstall Windows, you can reinstall to the latest version without any further messing.
The "slipstreaming" procedure, also allows you to integrate additional drivers and hotfixes, so they are all present when you do a new install.
Here are some links that allow you to customise and create your own XP install CD. Note that you will still need a valid Product Key to install any version of Windows XP, and you will also require a genuine Windows XP install CD.
Please note that the MSI Forum is not responsible for the content of external links; links are provided for reference only. If you need any help, or want to ask questions then please start a new topic. MSI Forum also does not advocate the use of illegally obtained software; any references or links to illegal versions of Windows will be removed.

MSFN - Unattended XP CD GuideI personally have built a DVD with the MSFN how to guide. The actual XP build was very easy when using the Microsot tool "setupmgr.exe" (MS Setup Manager for XP). The product nLite worked well also.
But before I go on I should tell everyone that wants to try this to go get a copy of VMware Workstation http://www.vmware.com. It will cost you a good amout but it will save so much time and energy. Before you install it though yo best have a pc strong enough for the task. I found a Pentium 4 w/HT and a Pentium D to wrk just fine when you also tack on 3 or more GB's of RAM.
I should warn all that the next parts may burn a hole in your head.
My WinXP Pro SP2 was also complimented with a complete unattended install of every program I wanted installed on my PC. Usng Batch coding and RunOnceX commands was very hard and very time consuming. It took me almost 4 months to learn how to use those and it never really paid off. I then found a program called "Windows-Post Installer". You cn find it at http://www.wpiw.net/. That program made it so much easier and I could tell myself what programs do, before I install them, via descriptions. When you look at the site you will see what I mean.
OK, let's get real down and dirty. "SWITCHES", my own personal demons. I found it so frustrating that a switch would work on one version of software and one version of WPI but not work on mine. I had to learn what one meant, set it up, and then test. I then found some switches to not work correctly in a vurtual enviroment. Lord save me from myself, PLEASE .
All of this is explained in much detail at the MSFN how-to http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/1/. They have updated alot of there information since I pull my hair out. So read on peoples for the only one that can help you is reading this right now, that does not in anyway shape or form mean ME, lol! -
Windows xp install -- black screen with no cursor
I've seen a number of posts about Boot Camp installation problems involving a black screen with a blinking cursor, but my problem is simply with a black screen. On my MacBook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo (graphics card: ATY,RadeonX1600) I'm able to partition the HD, but then after I'm prompted in Boot Camp to insert the Windows XP install disk, the computer attempts to restart and install, but after a flash of grey screen, the screen goes totally black, and eventually the optical drive powers down (after whirring for a while) -- no cursor, no nothing. I've tried a number of suggestions I've seen elsewhere: my firmware seems up-to-date (at least that's what I'm told when I try to run both EFI and SMC firmware updates); the Windows XP is a brand-new, single-disk, SP2 install disk; I've tried holding down the option key upon reboot and selecting windows start-up. I've used Parallels with no problem under 10.4.X, but recently upgraded to 10.5.2, and thought I'd try a Boot Camp installation for better access to peripherals. Any suggestions?

The problem is that in it is new machine I have partition my disc with the assistant without no problem, but when it is going to install Windows XP or Vista (the 2 I have them original) and boot the machine, it remains in gray screen and no nothing happens, reason why boot with option pressed and they leave systems both to me, followed this I select Windows and it is hoisted in the screen that nor the leader of the mouse moves.
I have made the procedure as 10 times and proven with different sizes from partition (with its respective disc repair with the DVD of Leopard and the disc assistant) and nothing.
Finally uses WinClone in my macbook pro and clone my partition of Vista Windows, recovers it in the Imac without no problem and it appears to me in startup but the same, I select Windows and there it remains. Fiirmware of the updated machine this and I am in OSX 10.5.3. I have proven everything until changes to the memories and nothing. Them request if somebody has had east problem and to most erudite of the forum I request aid to them to see if they can give me.
Beforehand a million thanks to all, -
I am having a problem with Windows Fusion installed on a MacBook.
I am having a problem with Windows Fusion installed on a MacBook OS 10. When attempting to use a Browser, (either IE, or Chrome), under Windows Fusion, I cannot browse to ANY page except Gmail.com.
I checked all security settings, and found no problem. Neither browser will allow me to do ANYTHING other than go to Gmail.com!!!
I am not sure if I have some virus on my Windows side, because Google and Safari both work perfectly on my Apple side, just not when running Windows Fusion.
Is there some setting I am missing, or do you think I have malware/virus issues?? My Internet connection is DEFINITELY working fine - I can send, receive, open, and close all my email on Gmail only, and can navigate freely on Gmail, but cannot get to any other site even hyperlinked to Gmail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.HartEJ wrote:

If you've already tried my previous suggestions, it may be that something has tampered with the DNS settings in your Windows VM, which might bypass the settings your Mac uses. Assuming you're using Windows 8, these instructions explain how to check and change the DNS settings. There's also a link in those instructions listing a variety of suggested DNS settings. If you do try changing the settings, record what the settings currently are in case you want to return to them. -
How do I get past the drivers not found problem during Windows 7 install?
I have a brand new (March 2012) MBP running Mac OS 10.7.3 (Lion) with a SuperDrive. I'm trying to use Boot Disk Assistant to install Windows 7 with a valid Windows 7 DVD burned from an .iso. I've partitioned the 750 GB HDD with 500 GB for Mac OS and 250 GB for Windows. The system reboots and starts to install Windows 7. Then it pops up an error:
"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.
Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."
Of course, I can't eject the Windows setup DVD because the eject button doesn't work so I can insert the Windows Support Software that I downloaded from Apple. So, I copied the Windows Support Software to a USB drive.
Once I get to this point, I can browse to the USB drive and I get the following file tree:

The only directory that the installer recognizes as having valid drivers is the Intel > Chipset > WIN7. When I select all of the drivers listed, the installer acts like it's installing something but then it stops saying that new devices were not found. I can't get past this point. The Windows 7 installer will not continue. If I select any of the other directories, I get the message "No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK."
Any thoughts? Admittedly, this is the my first experience dealing with Mac OS and I'm completely out of my league. However, this is a Windows installation issue and I'm getting hung up on device drivers. Usually in the PC world, I can easily go to the manufacturer's website and just download the drivers I need directly.

Usually burned ISO to DVD only works when burn speed is set to slowest.
Otherwise there are a number of problems with the install failing to do proper install, sometimes not even booting to start the install. Trouble is from using Apple Disk Utility. Burned in Windows, the ISO will be fine. Using Disk Utility at slowest has become "try reburn again at reduced speed."
You can use mouse on startup to eject DVDs but what you want is your drivers later after Windows is installed, and have them on USB flash or something.
you don't need any drivers except in a few cases (MacBook Air that lacks DVD and uses USB-DVDs)

How can i remove a hybrid mbr from my system drive so that Efi booted windows will install.
Hi,
i have just clean installed OSX lion on a freshly wiped drive in my macbook pro, using a bootable lion installer usb i used disk utility to partition my drive into a mac and a windows partition under the GPT/GUID partition scheme, i then proceeded to install lion onto the mac partition, and completed the set up, All Good...
so i plug in my Windows 8 EFI Boot USB stick (Notice, EFI boot here, NOT BIOS EMULATION BOOT), shutdown and power on the mac and proceed to the boot picker by holding option, So far so good, the usb key is recognised and the system boots into the Windows Setup in EFI mode, Enter product key, accept terms and so on, Now i select my Windows partition and windows Says That it cant install to Partition 4 (EFI Partiton, OSX Lion, Lion recovery, Windows), It says that it can only install to a GPT / GUID based disk as expected...
Why is there a protective MBR on my drive when i didnt add one, and i have not even touched bootcamp assistant...
How can i remove this Protective MBR from my drive so that my disk is PURE GPT so windows can install?
hours of googling has turned up nothing...

Version of windows trying to install: Windows 8 Release Preview 64 bit in EFI ModeAlexander, I would like to apologize for the TERRIBLE answers you have been given so far. I too had this question, and so here is what my thoughts are, as maybe they might provide insight in leading you towards the answer.
I am a *nix user in general, and thus own a mac and a thinkpad. In fact I just got my thinkpad not too long ago. As such, I transfered my faster hard drive to my faster computer, which made logcal sense to me. Ergo, I moved my Mac drive to my lenovo. On this drive I have a hybrid mbr which is no longer needed. So my thoughts are this:
From what I gather, the UEFI standard indicates that there is to be a protective MBR on all GPT systems. This is so that when you use programs that are not GPT aware, they will see a presumably "full" drive and not think that they have the right to destroy your existing data in what it thinks is free space. For instance, fdisk or other MBR only partitioning systems. Thus, if your system has only a MBR with a single EE partition, it would be my guess that it was in fact not put there by installing Windows, but rather for the protection of your system.
If you are in my situation, where you do indeed have a hybrid MBR with written out partitions, it would be my guess that the only way to rid yourself of it is to do it manually. The way I would recommend, is using gdisk (gpt fdisk). It is command line only, but the syntax is pretty easy:
$ sudo gdisk /dev/disk0
Assuming you are using your mac partition and your primary hdd is disk0. That will put you into an interactive session of gdisk. Enter "?" for command options. What you need is the "recovery and transformation" section which is the "r" I think. From there I would say you probably want to create a new hybrid mbr (you will be using this to delete it). When it asks you for the partitions you would like to include, just hit enter. It should then ask you if you would like to create a protective entry for the remainder of the empty space. This is what you want so tell it to do that. After you are done, "w" will write and exit. You may want to first use the "p" to print and ensure that you have what you want. You can proabably check your work by using fdisk as so:
$ sudo fdisk -l /dev/disk0
I hope this helps you, and if you find that there is a better way, I hope you might enlighten this thread.
Cheers!
PS The command examples, the $ is to indicate it is a bash/shell command as a non-root user, do not include it in the command.
