Windows 7 installation freezes at "Completing installation"

Hi!
I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my mid-2010 Macbook Pro 13". I'm running Lion and have installed all avaliable updates.
I've created the partition in BootCamp and the installation starts but when it gets to "completing installation", just after the computer has rebooted the installation freezes and I'm forced to shut down the computer.
This is what I've tried:
* To burn several different Windows 7 iso file on DVD's with different speed (from the disk utilities).
* Remove all USB connections (which is none since I've a wireless mouse)
Then I've no idea what to do more
One thing that could be the reason is that I (before trying to install Windows 7) had to repair my hard drive (which I did from the disk utilities) and I might have done some sort of misstake there...
Please help!

No help needed anymore, finally managed to install it
The solution was (probably) to eject the CD when the computer reboots and then continue the installation as normal.
I'm not 100% sure this was the solution but anyways, now I've Windows installed.

  • Windows 7 Freezes at "Completing Installation"

So, I was installing windows 7 and everything was going great, fast, etc. Computer had just restarted, blah blah. Windows had said "Upgrading Registry and what not" and then when I got to the "Completing Installation" after about 5 minutes it just freezes, I gave it a good 20 minutes of just sitting there before coming to the conclusion it might be a hardware problem?
Then again, why would I get so far in the installation before it doing that? It was at about the 70% marker.
Btw, I'm upgrading to Windows 7 32bit, I'm running Vista 32bit atm, and Vista is freshly installed after a Hard Drive format about a week ago.
Soes any help would be great, if it matters any deal about my computer specs I'm on:
    - AMD 64X Dual Core 3.00ghz.
    - GeFORCE XFX 6600 512mb
    - Default High Def Sound Card
Running a HP PC, but would have really matter?
Anyway, if anyone has any fixes for this or solutions, suggestions, what ever have you, I'm interested.
And also, I should note that I've tryed installing 3-4 times now with the exact same outcome.
I've tryed just the "Update" option, then after that I tryed the "Custom" option in the installation while it was already booted up.
Would a clean installation be the possible fix? The reason I haven't tred I clean installation is cause I just reinstalled Vista and formatted my hard drive a week ago meaning I'd have to make a 100gig backup of my programs, but if doing a clean sweap would have a 100% success rate, I'm all in.
Oh, one more thing, I first tried writing a CD with a RW DVD but I've tryed with 2 different types as well all going at 2x write speed. I still get the same installation Freeze.

I am glad to say that issue solved! Thanks a lot to all of you from that forum, but key problem solver was a guy Alex from MS Technical support.
The problem has been solved after disabling video card in device manager. I was scared to do that before. I believed that this will lead to “no video” situation since I have only one vide card. In fact that action disabled
    only driver.
So the successful installation steps were following:
    1.
    Minimize comp configuration:
    Only 1 HDD;
    Only one chip of RAM (4 G in my case);
    Only PS2 keyboard;
    2.
Optimize HDD as recommended at :
    3.
Run complete installation up to the “Completing installation step” freeze.
    4.
Activate Computer Manager as described by SheilaP at
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itproinstall/thread/7d765b66-17c6-46e8-94e2-dd39b5b504c1?prof=required;
    5.
Disable all devices with “!” mark and video card also (even if it doesn’t have “!”, as it was in my case). Continue
    the installation.

It was a display driver. All I needed to do was to boot from the CD again and following the directions in the post.
    Worked like a charm.

    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Is your Windows 7 software 64 bit or 32 bit?  Boot Camp 5 only supports 64 bit Windows 7.
Did you create the Windows partition using the Boot Camp Assistant?

  • Windows 7 installation hangs on 'completing installation' in boot camp

    hi
i am trying to install windows 7 ultimate 32 bit using boot camp and each time i have tried (except on one occasion) the installation has hanged on the 'completing installation' stage. i initially had this problem, then one time it worked, but then i had to wipe my boot camp partition and start again, and since then no joy in installing windows 7 again.
when the installation hangs it sounds like the install DVD is making a whirring sound as though there is an issue reading the DVD. but i have tried two different windows 7 install DVDs in both drives on my Mac Pro and i keep getting the same problem.
i have tried installing without any peripherals plugged in, including my cinema display, but still no joy, except for that one occasion, when i am not aware of having done anything different.
the boot camp partition is 32GB, and i have the same issue whether starting the installation using the boot camp assistant, or just booting from the Windows DVD and formatting the boot camp partition during the install.
can anyone help me troubleshoot this?
    thanks
    nick

On a Mac Pro with four hard disks, you would be better off devoting an entire HDD to Windows. You do not even need to start the Boot Camp Assistant application.
However, that does not appear to be the problem. Perhaps the size of your Windows partition is a bit on the smallish side. Why so small? Have you tried a larger partition? Going larger would be a good experiment to help drill down to the installation problem.
Try to eliminate anything under your control that could be part of the problem.
At 32GB that's the borderline between being permitted to use FAT32 formatting and being required to employ NTFS. Presumably, you allowed the installer to use NTFS. In fact I think Win7 requires NTFS. Switch the partition size a little down or a little up to eliminate that as a possible glitch point. Just a thought and probably a stupid one but you never know...
An afterthought: Can you get hold of a FireWire DVD optical drive. Maybe the internal drive is faulty.

  • Windows Vista Installation Hangs on "Completing Installation" on Dell Inspiron 1720

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 that I am working on. The original problem with this computer was that it was accidently shut off during a Windows Update. The computer will only load to a black screen with a white movable cursor.
Unable to resolve that issue, I decided to purchase a replacement hard drive (WD Scorpio Black 320GB -- Model # WD3200KTRTL) and proceed to do a full install of Windows Vista using the Dell Reinstallation Window Vista Home Premium 32BIT disc that came with
    the computer.
Towards the very end of the installation, the system hangs on the "Completing Installation" section. I decided to leave the computer turned on over night just in case there were things that were still loading. This was not the case and the next morning I
    turned off the computer.
With the new hard drive installed and with Windows Vista installed (minus the "Completing Installation hanging...) I am faced with the same problem as before when I had the existing hard drive installed.
Can anyone help me solve this issue? Ideally, I'd like to use the existing hard drive instead of the new one, simply because there is a lot of data and problems on the other drive.

How could it be that I can't reinstall Vista after replacing the hard drive in my Inspiron 1720 when I have the original DVD from Dell, to be used for just that purpose?  Well, the answer was exactly what Jaco suggested.  After hours of struggling
with this, and about at the stage where a new computer made more sense that continuing to try to get this 6 year old one running again, changing the AHCI setting allowed the Vista installer to get over it's CRCDISK.SYS hangup.  A 30 second fix, but finding
it took hours.  Sigh...Thank you for posting this, Jaco.

  • Windows 7 won't complete installation (2)

Just received a new Asus M51AD-US001O RTL Desktop system, with a Asus H81M-E motherboard, 8GB DDR3, Windows 7 Home Prem 64-bit, which included a new Asus graphics card with DVI & HDMI ports, & a VGA port. I hooked up the monitor to the VGA port,
pressed the power button.  Nothing Happened, Oh the system powered up (all fan etc) but no signal from computer. I ed then hooked a DVI/VGA adapter to the appropriate port,  Still no signal, nothing on the monitor. I powered off the system, removed
the Asus graphics card, rehooked the monitor to the VGA port and powered up the system.  Wala it worked, well untill I received the boot problem screen, which asked if I wanted to boot normally or into safe mode.  I chose safe mode.  System
started to move but an error screen appeared saying setup could not continue in safe mode, to restart to resume setup.  I hit the OK button to restart - Windows Setup Resuming, then another error appears: (Red Circle with a white X) "The computer
restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error, Windows cannot proceed.  To install windows, click OK to restart the computer and then restart the installation".  This just cycles, I hit the OK button and the restarting/reinstallation
begins and then the same error appears.  We're caught in a loop.  Any suggestions???
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Sounds like a hardware error, you can reset the BIOS to the default configuration, then check what’s the result.

  • Help, Windows Boot Camp Installer Freezes  Befor Finshing Installation

    MacBook Pro 2.6 4g Ram 200Gg hd, 17hd 10.5 Leopard
    Gave windows 25g
Installed Windows XP Home SP2 no problem,
    Windows runs
Installing Boot Camp for Windows - Freezes on The Atheros wireless install - Hard Freeze - (left it for 30 min So far.) Mouse is frozen, keyboard dose not work.

    Justin:
    How about we try this:
    1. Hard Wire the internet connection to your Macbook Pro via the ethernet port
    2. This should allow you to connect to the internet
    3. Open Internet Explorer
    4. Choose Tools from the menu of the Internet Explorer and then click on Windows Update
    5. This should open a separate window from which you can choose update and at that point windows update should get the drivers for Atheros and list them as Optional Update. Install those drivers.
I am not sure if you can even get this far but is worth a shot.

  • Creative Cloud Installer does not complete installation

    Hey Folks,
I've been trying to install Creative Cloud, but the install stops mid way through installing the Adobe Application Manager. The Adobe Application Manager folder appears in the Utilities Folder, but has nothing in it. I then get this message.
I've tried Uninstalling Adobe Creative Cloud, but even the Uninstaller hangs in the end and the window wont disappear.
I've used the AdobeCreativeCloudCleanerTool and then tried reinstalling after restart.
I've tried installing the stand alone version of the Adobe Application Manager with the same results. i.e. the the installer stops short.
I also tried starting a new admin account on my computer and tried installing CC with the same results.
As per advice from another post I tried changing the Library\Application Support\Adobe\OOBE folder name.
I've also tried an exorcism, pouring boiling water into my lap and waving chicken feet over my computer, but no dice!!!
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm on Mac 10.8.2.
    Cheers,

  • PSE8 Mac installation freezes w/blank installer alert box...

...right at the beginning of the installation.
I've tried rebooting. I've tried uninstalling and rebooting. I've repaired permissions with disk utility.  I've made sure I have all the needed requirements to run it. I've shut down my browers. I've cleared my caches.
And I've been waiting on hold with Adobe for over an hour. Anyone having this same problem who can help me out here?  Thanks!!

Hang in here. I had a similar problem when PSE 8 for Mac failed to install. Nothing posted here was of any help and phone support was also not helpful. Finally an Adobe Systems quality engineer appeared here, Ankush Ved, who tried to help with the same suggestions as phone support. When I told him I had been through those fixes and failed he sent me a private message and we scheduled a Net-meeting between him in India and me in Connecticut in which he took control of my machine remotely as I watched and participated occasionally to enter an admin password or serial number.
He investigated the files in my computer and found corrupted code in a Library caused by the Snow Leopard installation I had made prior to attempting to install PSE 8 for Mac. The corrupt code prevented the PSE 8 installer from proceding.
Mr. Ved cleaned up the code, uninstalled  the PSE 6 for Mac already in my machine, then reinstalled PSE 6 and together we made a successful installation of PSE 8 for Mac.
I may have the order of the operations mixed as there were moments I was totally lost, but Mr. Ved never gave up and certainly knew exactly what was required, what he found and how to correct the problem. He was part of the team that developed PSE 8 for Mac.as you will see when you finally get the app installed and click on About Elements 8 when launched.
lf Mr. Ved invites you to his lair accept the invite. You may be asked to suggest the time. It helps to know that India sees the sun 9 hours and 30 minutes earlier than New York City. Which means when it is noon in NYC USA it is 9:30 PM in India.
Bring some water, patience and a good sense of humor and be prepared to devote up to three hours to the event. Ours took about 2 hrs. 30 min. and was a pleasant new experience for me.
I found that Adobe Systems cares about problems we meet with their products and is working to correct these as they exhibit themselves in the real world.

App doesn't crash, just stops there and does nothing.  I forced quit it and couldn't run it again without a reboot.  After the reboot it ran again but it is frozen in the same place and isn't doing anything.  Past 20 min at this point.  Also, running on Mac Lion.

  • Windows 7 Completing Installation + Bootcamp + Freezing

    Hi All,
I have read the forum and see that it is quite common that the Windows 7 is freezing up on the "completing installation". I have tried a few of the suggestions, for example, increasing hardrive from 25G to 60G and even putting a USB keyboard and touching keys on it, and well, nothing has worked. Here are the details:
    1. 2010 Core Duo 2 Intel MacBook Pro (Mid 2010) with 4G Ram
    2. I successfully installed W7 on this MacBook Pro once with 25G of ram, but had to restore my lion and destroyed the W7 partition.
    3. Reloaded Lion
    4. Went to bootcamp to install W7
    5. Made the MacBook Pro OS bootcamp DVD (with the drivers I assume)
    6. Made attempt 4 times with 60G partition to install W7
    7. When installing W7 did the advance and custom option formatting drive to NSTF
    8. Windows 7 will reboot once and then freeze on completing installation, even the mouse arrow freezes
I need some realistic solutions that will fix this problem. I have paid my dues, I have read the forum solutions, nothing worked that I tried.
I need to install W7 for graduate school work, otherwise would be quite content to remain pure Mac OSX user. I don't want to have to dump
my MacBook Pro over issues like this, but rather piqued at boot camp giving me so much trouble. I would rather run W7 natively on this macbook
rather than use some crap like parallel desktop which is horrible and slows performance down.
    Warm Regards,
    Geeky
PS - Mac fanboys unite, please help out a brother on this one.

    Hi Mr. Murphy,
Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it. I don't believe anything is wrong with my hardware (bad ram, ESD, and etc). However, I do agree that there is something that the Windows installer doesn't like. I am already barebones, per say, as I am still running on out of factory hardware. Is there anyway I can verify that my hardware is working appropriately in Mac osx?
As for the DVD, it's legitimate copy and DVD from MS. I even tried the 32 bit version instead of the 64 bit. Hence, there is definitely something with my environment that it doesn't like. I just wish there was a way I could determine what that was.
I'll consider VM as a last resort, but what really weirds me out is that this went in two months ago and now it is not. Granted, I was operating on the first version of Lion.
I have this on warranty still. Would you advise I take this to a apple store and see what they find?
    Warm Regards,
    Geeky

  • Installing windows 7 Home premium 64-bit, cannot complete installation

    Hello,
I am currently trying to install a genuine windows 7 home premium copy on my iMac 27" using boot camp assistant 3.0.1 on a new partition. Partition is correctly made, installation proccess was smooth but when windows restarted to complete installation everything goes black. When I use safe mode it tells me that windows cannot complete installation on safe mode, and prompt me to reboot and start windows normally. The windows logo appears again but then everything goes black. I removed the partition and repartititoned the disk with boot camp, and tried installing again. Now it's been about half an hour and after the installation reboot, and the screen is black.
    Any ideas?
    thanks in advance.

    Sorry,
Is this an edu download ISO that you burned to DVD yourself, or retail copy?
No reason to redo partition, when / if you do boot 7 HP, you can always just do clean install, there is nothing wrong with the partitions.
There definitely are problems with 27" iMac and Windows 7 support, and BC 3.0 came out last... July actually, so almost a year, and before RTM (even though "frozen" W7 went through some major changes later).
The worst scenario is when BCA freezes or is killed, that can leave the entire drive and Mac OS inoperable (backups are imperative).
So if you burned the DVD yourself and used Disk Utility, reburn at reduced (2x) speed is all I can think of.
More problems await you AFTER 7 is installed and Apple Boot Camp drivers mess things up again!
