Windows 7 installation on a Pavillion mod. a1620y CTO

I would like to find out if Windows 7 will install on my HP Pavillion a1620y CTO computer. It has XP Pro presently.  It seems as though the system would work but I would like to be certain if possabil.
This question was solved.

Here are the original specs and configurable options for your HP Pavilion a1620y CTO Desktop Computer and its RC410-M (Asterope3) motherboard. Based on the specs, this model uses ATI Radeon Xpress 200 Chipset for Intel Processors.
I have an eMachines desktop computer based on a similar motherboard called the "Grant County 2", which also uses the ATI RC410 (aka Xpress 200). This computer works perfectly fine with Windows 7, 2GB of RAM, and a PCIe x16 graphics card.

  • Windows Installer not installed properly, then boots to safe mode w/no backlight?

I have only used my laptop for about 2 weeks.
I tried to download an Adobe Reader update, and I got a message that said "Windows Installer was not installed correctly."
I retarted my computer, but it would only boot in safe mode.
I tried  a System Restore, but I got a message that said   "System Restore doesn't appear to be functioning properly."
I tried to do a virus scan (just in case), but my computer will not connect to the internet, so that's not working, either.
I tried to restart once more,  but as soon as I went to put my password in, the backlight on the laptop would shut off, and then it would only boot in safe mode.
I put the laptop away for a little while because my life got very busy and I didn't have the time to deal with it. Today, when I turned the laptop on to try and troubleshoot, it booted  normally, and successfully- no safe mode, backlight still on- and then it told me that System Restore had worked.
    What gives?
Anyone have any ideas what happened / what I did to make this happen / how I can avoid it in the future / if the computer is actually going to function properly or if it needs to be sent back?
    Thanks!

Hello SuperNova and welcome to community,
When you restore the system earlier to back date it did not get complete and also Windows 7 has startup repair option which fixes the common startup bugs.

I recently had to get a new computer. It required me going from windows xp to 7 I am trying to put it one the new computer but I get following message  Windows installer could not be accessed could be in safe mode. How do I get around it? need it to charge my ipod on my computer.

I have used PCs for years, and still do at work.  But, last year my wife bought me a 15" MBP with the anti-glare screen (I was getting ready to buy for myself).  It took me all of 1 week to completely get used to the UI for OS-X, and now I really prefer it over the Win7 UI.  I have no experience with Win8.  Here are my thoughts:
    1) You can get a good computer using either a Win8 machine or a Mac.
    2) You will pay less for an equivalent PC.  But not as much less as some would have you believe.  You need to take into account the all aluminum body of the Mac (vs most PCs being plastic) and the size of the display.  And, don't forget that there is a lot of bundled SW on the Mac that you will actually find useful and would have to purchase for the PC.
    3) You can probably do everything you need on the PC platform with the right SW (you probably already know this since you are using one already).
That said, I think some things are easier on the Mac.  For example, GarageBand is a standard part of the Mac SW installation.  I got up and running recording directly from my bass into a track with a song imported from iTunes on another track in a snap.  I only had to purchase a Jam adapter ($99) for the bass so I could come in over USB instead of using the audio in port (which did work, by the way).  You can do the same on a PC, but you have to purchase the SW from somewhere.  And, it probably isn't cheap.
I use VMware Fusion to run those Win programs I already owned because it was much less expensive to buy Fusion than to replace them.
I would not return to a PC for my own use, given a choice.  But, I would be very careful about getting my wife a Mac without careful thought as she is not as tolerant of learning new things as I am.
    So, there you go.

  • Adding UEFI to a Windows Installation

I am using a different hard drive and Windows installation than what came with my Lenovo laptop. I am only able to boot from it (and also the Windows CD) when I disable UEFI in the BIOS. Is there any way to make my Windows installation bootable while in UEFI mode, as opposed to disabling UEFI completely?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello.
No you can't change an existing Legacy installation to UEFI as a UEFI installation requires your HD to be GPT formatted instead of MBR.
You would need to change your HD to GPT first before you could install Windows in UEFI mode, but there's no way to convert a MBR formatted OS drive without destroying all data on it.

"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." I have tried all the fixes from deleting everything to running command prompts. I think i tried everything.

  • HT5030 whem installing itunes i get this message "this installation package could not be opened. Verifiy that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package"

whem installing itunes on my mums new computer which is windows 7 i get this message everytime "this installation package could not be opened. Verifiy that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package"

    Let's check your Windows system.
    1.  Have you done all the important windows updates and service Packs on your system.  If not do it now.  START button, type in Windows Update and ENTER.  Select 'CHECK FOR UPDATES'
    2.  Let's check your Windows system files for possible file corruption
SCAN and repair possible Windows system file corruption:
Go to command prompt (START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES right mouse click "command prompt" and choose "Run as Administrator"
    type in
    sfc /scannow
let Windows fix any system files that need to be repaired.
Restart the computer if it did actually repair any files.
    3.  Check your system for possible Malware.  But you have to do it in WIndows Safe Mode.
Start your computer in "Safe mode with networking", go to this link download a free version of Malwarebyte.
    http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
Install and perform update immediately, then do a full SCAN. Remove malware if it indeed finds any. Restart computer to regular windows to let Malwarebyte complete the removal.
To start your computer in safe mode
Press and hold the F8 key as your computer starts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you'll need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.
On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight the "safe mode with networking" option, and then press Enter. Log on to your computer with a user account that has administrator rights.
When your computer is in safe mode, you'll see the words Safe Mode in the corners of your screen. To exit safe mode, restart your computer and let Windows start normally.

  • No OSX installer will boot on Mac Pro from any drive (grey screen), but Windows installer does...

    Greetings,
Neither OSX 10.5 (shipped with my Mac) or 10.6 disks will start on either of my Mac Pro dvd drives.  They will not run from my Macbook (Mac Pro on firewire target mode) either, nor from a partition on the Mac Pro HDD.  They always go as far as the grey logo screen with the spinning wheel, where they get stuck.
Verbose mode will display the following lines where it gets stuck:
    DSMOS has arrived
Warning - com apple.driver.InternalModemSupport declares no kernel dependencies; using com.apple.kernel.6.0
Then it lists two ethernet addresses and nothing else.
I have reset the PRAM about a hundred times in the last days.  Same goes for the SMC, well, maybe only a dozen times this one...  I have run fsck, too.
I can no longer run the hardware test on the install disk 2, but when I still could a couple of days ago, all was reported fine.
BTW Windows installer will load though...  What is going on here?!?
Any suggestion (other than suicide, yet anyway!) would be greatly appreciated.

Windows won't give a kernal panic or BSOD because it is a Mac related hardware issue.

Your asking about a Mac Pro, but those are not "G5" and the OS can't be transferred between PowerMacs and Mac Pro.... are you sure we are talking about only Mac Pros?
Putting XP and Mac OS on the same drive, that doesn't strike me as what one would do; keep them on different drives.
And, if they are on the same drive, then you really haven't reformatted the drive, which would involve wiping any and all partitions, and then creating your Mac Standard (HFS+ Journaling) and backup XP with WinClone or install it to another drive.
I don't have trouble with Windows, but I do with the Boot Camp Assistant and drivers.

  • Install Windows 8.1 in EFI mode

    Hello everyone,
I'm experiencing a problem with my MacBook Pro that's about to drive me insane, I'm quite certain that it is possible to do, as I already had this working earlier. I have a MacBook Pro Late 2011 (meaning it originally came with an optical disc drive) with a 250GB SSD in the original hard drive bay and a 1TB HDD in the optical drive bay. On the HDD I have one big partition for storing huge files and such, on the SSD I have the System partition, and a Recovery partition. EFI System Partition is present on both disks. Now I am trying to install Windows 8.1 Full Version (x64) using an USB installation drive I created using the BootCamp assistant in EFI mode. This has worked before I replaced the optical disk drive with a second hard drive (in EFI mode aswell) using Windows 8. I'm booting the Windows Installer from the USB stick from the boot menu (holding the option key) and selecting the 'EFI Boot' option. The installer runs fine until I get to the partition setup. On the first try I found out that my disk had a hybrid MBR, so obviously the Windows Installer recognized my disk as an MBR disk. I converted the hybrid MBR to a protective MBR and restored the disk to a true GPT disk using gpt fdisk. After I did this I rebooted again and ran the installer. Now when I select the partition to install Windows on (it's a 55GB NTFS partition) and hit Next, it tells me that it failed creating or couldn't locate the system partitions. I'm sure when I did this with Windows 8 before, it created the necessary files on the already present EFI System Partition and didn't create any additional partitions. I believe there's something entirely wrong with my SSD's layout or that there might be something wrong with my EFI System Partition maybe?
I hope that someone has already successfully performed this action on their MacBook Pro that originally came with an optical disc drive and can help me out. Maybe someone can figure out what I'm doing wrong...
    Thank you in advance.

A couple things... I've done this a couple times myself for different reasons on a Crucial drive with no ill effects.
The other thing is you're trying to put a 55 gig Windows partition on a drive that's already using 190 gig for OS X according to what the numbers are in your post. That leaves 5 gig on a 250 gig drive for temp files, which is going to cause problems.
    Hope you find your solution.
