Windows 7 is junk

i'm sorry, but i'm sure i'm going to offend a bunch of windows users here.
but i've spent more than 80 hours trying to get windows 7 to work correctly on a macbook and have just come to the conclusion that it's a convoluted piece of junk meant to look and feel like snow leopard, but was written for software engineers due to all the stupid hacks and workarounds you have to do to get this thing running correctly.
the latest of which is the registry hack that you have to do in order to get windows file associations working again. once you open a file with another program other than the default, it won't let you change it back (yes, google it), even inside the OS's own feature for doing so, it becomes disabled. how stupid.
i understand that some of you need windows for whatever reason, gaming, etc. in my particular case, i have a friend here in south america who returned 2 defective pc's and went back to the mac, however, she's an architect and has to use Autocad for work and it only works on pc. and unfortunately, there's a license breaking issue with Autocad due to how windows reads the clock, so yet another hack needed to be performed to keep that working.
after scouring trillions of forum posts, i finally have the network adapter and sound working (sort of), and find it hard to believe nobody has the same problem or has a solution. i've posted this problem several times and no answer for a week.
windows 7 x64 on a white macbook. i have speakers working with Cirrus Logic CS4206A (AB99) driver installed. like many people, HEADPHONES still don't work, no matter what i click (setting headphones or speakers as default doesn't work, this is clearly a driver issue).
i thought maybe that the sound card driver (realtek?) might be the other driver that may control this. can't seem to uninstall the default driver and install the realtek ones to even give it a try (another long story).
the sound is louder on the left speaker than it is on the right, another common problem i've read here. and i addressed the low volume by editing the registry to bump up the volume, as suggested by another user in another forum.
i'm not blaming the driver issues on windows 7, and certainly not faulting apple for not keeping up with a different company's OS. but just trying to navigate around windows 7 with all the stupid dialogue warning boxes and "troubleshoot compatibility" workarounds just to get things working is driving me nuts. i can't imagine someone who knows nothing about computers trying to get this to work. what average user edits a registry?
and it's not just bootcamp users, i've scoured windows forums and found all these problems. i have come to the conclusion that if you don't need windows 7 specifically and are just using windows for limited applications on your mac, just go back to XP, it will save you a lot of time and hassle. it's basic and doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it's not trying to pretend to be something it's not. and it works.
i hate to say it, and this is not meant to slam windows or start a windows vs. mac fight, but windows 7 was written to look and feel like leopard/snow leopard, but coded for left-brain computer engineers. there's nothing intuitive about the experience at all.
well, i'm returning her computer today, got it working as smooth as it can after several attempts, it is what it is. but just like eating at a bad restaurant, i hope i never have to see W7 again.

yes, i would like specific help. i've already posted like 10 times asking the same things and nobody can offering anything. i've searched every forum known to man, and haven't found a solution. it's obviously a driver issue.
yes, windows 7 works fine on the macbook pro.
for some reason it doesn't work well at all on a macbook, late 2009, white.
what is the correct audio driver for either the speakers or sound card to make it work? left speaker is louder than the right. headphones not working. also trackpad doesn't have expose functionality on the macbook like it does on mbp 15, which is what i have. (i use xp, but installed windows 7 on a mbp recently).
yes, i've heard of that saying. the thing is with windows 7, you have to be a freaking computer software engineer to figure anything out. and it's god's gift to mankind especially after vista.
so let's see how expert you are, try helping me figure out how to get the sound working properly.
macbook white, late 2009
speaker/sound driver: cirrus logic CS4206A (A99)
left speaker is louder than the right, there's a bit of compressed sound/echo, no headphone functionality...
network adapter driver: broadcom 43224AG 802.11 a/b/g/draft-n driver
(it works, but not sure if i'm getting full N, using it with time capsule router at the moment)
thanks...

  • Sound issue in Windows XP on Macbook pro

So here is my issue. Ive tried poking around the computer to see if I can find something but my problem is this...
The sound coming out of the lap top does not stop coming out. I have 2 Bose external laptop speakers set up and even with those speakers, the sound still comes out of the laptop. In addition to that, when Im trying to be quiet, I put my headphones in. Yet sound still comes out of the laptop speakers. I have no way to adjust it and I havent found a solution because simply pressing the sound keys does not work.
If that makes no sense let me know.

I'm running into a similar issue myself. I just upgraded to Leopard, and almost immediately installed Windows XP on a Boot Camp partition. I'm getting sound out of the mac speaker, but I haven't had any luck getting the sound to come out of the rear speaker jack - which normally works fine in OS X.
Unlike you, I can use the sound controls on the mac keyboard, and if you haven't tried this already, launch windows XP, then insert the Leopard install CD. There is a windows partition on it which contains Boot Camp drivers for Windows. This will install some hardware "bridges" which will enable certain functionality on the mac keyboard, e.g. Sound control, as well as a few other things.
I did this, and I'm at the point where I can't get the sound to go where I want it. That sound control panel in Windows is junk, and has a least a dozen sliders that do squat to solve any real problems. I mean, how many sound controls do you need!!!

    Hi,
I am using windows 7 in my macbook pro installed through bootcamp, but the audio is very low and the mic is not working. Is there any workarounds for this?

  • NB500-108 - Windows works vey slow.

    Hello,
Why does the windows on my laptop (NB500-108) of your company, Toshiba, work very slow?
    Thank you,
    Igor.

There are quite a lot of possible reasons that may cause a slow computer.
    - Outdated hardware configuration;
    - Overload startup programs;
    - Corrupted registry issues;
    - Remnants of uninstalled applications;
    - Too many Windows Temporary junks;
    - Poor security software
There are a few common things you can do for the issues.
    * Restart regularly
    * Delete programs you never use
    * Limit how many programs load at startup
    * Run fewer programs at the same time
    * Turn off visual effects
    * Check for viruses and spyware
    * Disable services you dont need
These are manual ways to fix, for a tech geek, it's easy; for a computer newbie, it's hard.
As a result, you can take a try of speed up tool , which can help you easily and instantly tune up your slow computer & fix all issues with just a few clicks.
Meanwhile, you should take your Toshiba as a baby and should do some system maintenance job regularly - she/he will return for you :)

  • Mail Preferences -- only showing Junk settings

    Hi,
    I really like using "Mail".
    Just one hiccup.
When I go to Preferences, I only get the window for junk mail settings.
I can't get to the signatures and other preferences.

    Hello David.
You have the preferences toolbar closed on Junk Mail.
Go to Mail > Preferences and at the top right corner of the Preferences window is a clear pill shaped button.
Selecting this button opens/closes the complete Preferences toolbar.
When this button is available, it serves the same purpose for whatever window is open.

  • If you don't know what to do anymore(Written by Bas)

If you don't know what to do anymore because drivers won't install, you might try this.
    Hi there,
    * This article is not really for newbies, but you might give it a try. *
    * Read it thru the end before you do anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *
I was testing 3Dmark for the link Takki made, THANK YOU!!!!!
    I did the following:
Tested with my MSI GF2Ti200 (patched to Quadra2Pro) and had a nice score....
Then I removed the drivers and changed the card to a Hercules Prophet 4500 (KyroII chipset), installed the drivers and done the test again, no problems....I THOUGHT!!!!
So I uninstalled the drivers again, and inserted the MSI GF2Ti200....
After the reboot of Win2000+SP2+Directx8.1+VIA4.38, I installed the latest nVidia drivers again, it detected my card as a Quadra2Pro (as it should) and I rebooted....
The DARN drivers wouldn't initialize!!! I had a nice ! in the driver....
So I thought, well no problem, we uninstall them again and try it again, same result.....
Then I thought, it must be the BIOS as I recently flashed the latest version, so I went back to 5.1 from 5.3 on my KT3-Ultra-ARU.....again nothing and the ! was there again.....
At this point I really started to hate nVidia (still do BTW)....
The next step I took, was refreshing the ACPI-compliant-system-driver (HAL), no problem you think? My idea exactly, but it told me that it could find some file or it was damaged.....no problem, we just reboot and it should be fine, again nada, njet, noppes, none....but now I had 2 of these damn !, one at the nVidia card and one at the HAL....
We don't give up, so I started to delete all the OEM*.INF files in the C:\WINNT\INF directory that are not related to the cards I have, but I also deleted the nVidia related.....
So I rebooted again, installed the nVidia drivers again (have tried old versions too) and again, nothing!, now I got really MAD
I know, I know, I should have just reinstalled the entire freaking Win2000 at this time, but I hate reinstalling and I won't be beaten by Microsoft
At this point, my brain was cooking now, I went to the hardware wizzard and choose to remove the ACPI-compliant-system-driver (translated from Dutch so it can differ a bit), and again another reboot.....
Now Windows got MAD at me!?!?!, it started to load a new ACPI compliant drivers and installed all the hardware over again, except for the nVidia drivers as they where deleted.....
Windows asked for the MSI CDrom a couple of times, but hey who am I to refuse this humbe request?
A dozen more reboots and all the drivers where installed again and the time had come to give the nVidia drivers another go....
After telling me to close the antivirus, don't know why? Never had any problems before! It asked me the same questions as you all get and seemed to install.....another reboot, yep Billy is very keen on rebooting
    What the ?????, they work!!!!!
Gee man (woman), I have beaten the beast!
I hope this description will help others who have problems switching cards, you can allway's try this approach.
I learned from this experiance that the PnP in Windows is junk and you really need to remove the HAL to get it working again, next time I will go straight for this baby in order to get a good recognision of the hardware involved.
As Windows does strange things when this happens, it will even tell you that files are damaged or missing, when they are not....
I'm not sure if it will work in XP, but it does in Win2000.....give it a shot before you decide to reinstall....
As I think reinstalling doesn't get you anywhere and won't solve your problems, I know this is hard stuff, but you really feel pleased afterwards when you managed to solve it.
    Bas.
BTW, I still don't like APIC 1.1/1.4, never used it on a single CPU and never will as it's faking you on interrupts
Check your BIOS start screen and you will find all the proof you need
To remove the HAL, you first need to go to the hardware device listing, there you look under system how your system is listed.
On my system this is ACPI Compliant System.
Then you go to the hardware wizzard and choose the option remove a device, after that you get a screen with lot's of devices, there you find the same (allmost) devicename, then you choose to remove that one.
After you reboot, wait a little as Windows seems to go nuts, just follow thru and you will have a brand new configured system.
Then try to install the devices that didn't want to install in the first place, you might be so lucky that they do install then.

Well, as far as I know the firmware v 1.03.0 is not the correct firmware for this router..so try to flash the firmware to the one available on the website and see whether it makes any difference….

  • I have encountered a different iTunes 7.0 problem from the rest if these

ok, I have wrapped my brain around this one as much as I care to.
here is "MY" problem with the new upgrade.
To start, the background info I guess. I opend up my old (6.0 version) and tried to download one of my favorite TV shows (WILDBOYZ)...lol anywho, it said that a newer version of iTunes was needed. So, in response I attempted to download the new version. When I did, I got the usual windows installer junk with the "would you like to run this software etc" so I got through all that and during the middle of the download I was prompted with "A newer version of iTunes already exist on this computer, cannot continue with installation". So, confused at this point I went to the support section on the Apple website and saw some of the suggestions. So I then removed all old versions of iTunes and Quicktime from my computer via remove/change programs from my control panel etc. I then attempted to retry the download (I have disabled my "Norton Antivirus protection at this point) I was then prompted with another error message and this time it said
"Error 1316. A network error occured while attempting to read from the file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\iTunes.msi"
I don't know what to do with this and I have not seen any other realted problems within this discussion forum regarding problems with the new updates for the 7.0.
can anyone help me with this one, cause I sure would like to see Stev-O and Chris Pontius (WildBoyz) jump in the lake full of crocodiles or something...lol, not only that but I oyuld like to continue BUYING movies and shows for my iPod.

"Error 1316. A network error occured while attempting to read from the file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\iTunes.msi"
the 1316 was more common with QuickTime standalone installs than itunes installs, but there's a technique that you can try that has had some success with it.
are iTunes and QuickTime no longer showing in Add/Remove?
if so, also go in and manually remove any itunes and QuickTime leftover program files and program folders, as per the "Uninstall older versions of iTunes and QuickTime" section of this document:
Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime software in Windows
... next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility, and use it to check for any leftover iTunes and QuickTime installation configuration information. (if you find any, remove it with CleanUp.)
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
reboot the PC and try another itunes install. does it go through without the error messages now?

  • Honest opinion on the iphone

due to this new "price drop" im considering getting an iphone. im a student and couldnt get myself to spend $600 on a phone but now its a little more manageable. i cant really comprehend what the iphone actually has wrong with it. it seems like the people who talk bad about it are the people who dont have one. i need to know the truth about what works and what doesnt. i have a mac so i dont have to deal with that crappy windows corresponding junk.
i just wanna know from people that actually have one. i hear about all these "problems" and it makes me a little weary. ive been to the store and played with the phone many times and it seems really amazing.
so i guess the real question is... is it worth it???
and when you are texting can you turn the phone and have the keyboard horizontal while composing texts??

Definitely not worth the old price! And probably now, definitely worth the reduced price. Beautiful phone, Amazing interface; fun stops there. You are restricted to ATT and ATT is hit and miss; clear and crackly, in and out regardlesss of bars. Edge is slow. Synching is problamatic (windows/Outlook), the "real internet" lacks Flash and other real internet technologies, No games unless you have internet access, No IM, No MMS, No local storage, smartphone portion of device lacks smartphone features and conveniences, phone needs to be reset frequently, locks up quite a bit when trying to answer calls with BT headset, build quality looks great but case is separating from bezel, slippery to hold and extremely expensive to repair, no removeable battery, too many clicks (button presses) to access standard features like phone. You asked for an Honest opinion. My recommendation is to wait for the 2 iPhone rumored to be out this fall, or for the 2nd Generation iPhone. It is a cool phone, but bragging rights are gone, and fixes are slow to come. They've got an 8 cylinder hitting on 6. If you just need a phone, don't want smartphone features, and you have a lot of money, then go ahead and get it. If you need smartphone features then I'd say get something else and don't look back. My recommendation would be to get a much cheaper phone and buy the new iPod Touch. I think you'd get a lot more utility with that combo.
I know this won't be a popular post, but he did ask for an honest opinion, and this is mine. Flame me if you wish, but we all have our own perspectives, mine is just one of them. And yes, I did my homework, I do like the phone, but can find no way to justify the cost of it, the speed of patching, and the customer service.

  • Can Web Intelligence display time in 24-hour clock format?

I would appreciate your kind help in answering this question:  How can I change the time format in a formula so as to display time in the 24-hour clock format?
Presently the CurrentTime() value format looks like this  :  02:26:25 PM GMT-04:00
Instead, I want it displayed in the 24-hour clock format like this  :  14:26
I'm developing Web Intelligence reports in the BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.2 InfoView environment.
I searched several places for an answer to this question, but had no luck.
I searched the BusinessObjects Enterprise InfoView online help document (i.e., Web Intelligence Java Report Panel); I also searched two web sites: the Experts-Exchange website, and the BOB www.forumtopics.com website.
I figured out that there is built in conversion function FormatDate() that can convert a date value into a text value, as for example :  FormatDate( CurrentDate(); "mmmm dd, yyyy" )
However, I have not found an equivalent time function that would convert a time value into a text value of a specified format.

    Anil,
         Perfect;  you answered my question!
The only thing that I had to do differently was to leave off the quote marks from the string "HH:mm:ss" when I entered it into the Custom Date/Time box of the Number Format dialog window.
While on this subject of the Number Format dialog window, I saw that the Date/Time box already held the following string value:
                    FULL_DATE
So, thinking that I should leave that value alone, I entered the string "HH:mm:ss" in the box labeled "Undefined" next to the Date/Time box, instead.  That didn't work.  It just caused the webi report to display the CurrentTime() value as a long date, like this:
                   Friday, July 9, 2010
So then I replaced the string "FULL_DATE" (without the quotes) with the string "HH:mm:ss" (first with and then without the quotes).  In the first try, the report displayed the time as "14:20:34"; in the second try, the report displayed the time as 14:20:34.
         Questions:
         Can you please tell me:
         1. What is the meaning and usage of the label FULL_DATE?
         2. In my attempts to get the time formatted the way I wanted it to look, I filled the Properties list (of the Number Format dialog window) with junk labels such as those listed below.  How can I delete these labels?
                   FULL_DATE; "HH:mm:ss"
                   FULL_DATE
                   FULL_DATE
                   FULL_DATE; "HH:mm:ss"
         3. What is the purpose of the box labeled "Undefined" next to the Date/Time box?

  • How can I restore the previous download toolkit UI in FF26?

Updated to FF26 earlier today. I just now noticed that the download manager is different, rather, it is the new version that has been available for a while. I have been using the older toolkit that was available in earlier versions through about:config and enabling the toolkit option. That option is still checked as true but the toolkit remains the same (the newer version).
How can I revert to the older download toolkit without restoring to an earlier version?

Why is any of the crap in the new download window needed? It's fluff; useless junk made to look pretty for the everyday idjit.
Seriously... why would I need to see bookmarks in the download window? I will never open the download window to use bookmarks. I can go straight to the bookmark tab in the browser. Same with all the other 'new and improved' crap that has been forced upon us with this busted new download window; superfluous junk.
Why on Earth would I need or want to open this new 'Library' window to check any of that shit? It's all right there more easily accessible in the main browser. I personally don't use history or tags to begin with, but I guess some people might. Why would they take an extra step to do it though?
Something else I don't do... keep the download window open to watch the downloads! Is there really some expectation that people are going to use these things simultaneously (download monitoring + redundant 'additions')? I can't understand the thought process here.
There's just no benefit whatsoever to this Library garbage. No one is really going to be checking out their downloads while they browse or organize bookmarks to the point that this change is even remotely useful. That's about the only thing I can think of that this ridiculousness could **possibly** bring to the table; being able to 'actively' monitor downloads while doing one of the other few things you can now do with that window open.
Get real, though. No one is using that window for anything but accessing the stuff they downloaded once it's done or to check the progress.
You want to do something useful? Scrap this stupid Library concept and get back to the old download window. Or keep it as a totally separate function (would almost be awesome to see the data on how often it's used and what people think of it when they have options) and make a download window like the old one that works with the current setup.

    Qosmio F45 AV-411
Why is my audio getting clobbered when I install MS Vista updates?
The first time this happened was when auto update installed .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 back on 2/26/09. I deinstalled this update and the audio worked again. Now on 4/15/09 I installed selected updates (1 Defender update, 6 Vista Security updates, 1 Windows Mail Junk email Filter, and 1 Security update for 2007 MS Office, and1 Security update for 2007 MS Office Excel).  Don't know which update clobbered my audio.
I'm getting tired of this!  Is there something I can do to restore my audio and stop this from happining in the future?
Thank you in advance for your input!

  • Mail app intermittently fails to connect - internet accounts preferences cannot connect, then unable to verify name or password. Why?

Running 10.10.2 on early 2011 MBP, 8 GB RAM.
Mail app intermittently fails to connect - message: internet accounts preferences cannot connect, then unable to verify name or password.  No problem with iPhone to connect same 3 accounts. Have run Disk Utility and rebooted. What is happening?

Same issue, too.  But I have nothing better to do than try to fix Apple problems that appear mysteriously and randomly; I'm sure you're the same way.
The REAL REASON, which can no longer be overlooked, is that Apple's (probably underpaid sweatshop Chinese) employees build toys for grown-ups and do little more than that.  I wish I had never bought my Mac (2009) since few things about Apples are "intuitive" unless you've been an Apple cultist since Jobs introduced the first Mac.  Oh, and because things mysteriously stop working, something I don't recall happening with any of the PCs I've owned.
Apple's version of Excel is a total joke and on an update that I did not ask for, the "Save As" feature, a convention that was 30 years old and worked well, was removed in favor of "Duplicate, Rename, Save."  What 22 year-old Apple product manager was allowed to make this change?
I foolishly compounded my Mac purchase error by buying an iPhone 4S.  On that lovely ($200 Verizon-subsidized) product, I can no longer discover my home network, rendering my ($100) Airplay for outdoor music useless.  (But I probably can post a picture directly to Facebook or something!  More toyish behavior in which Apple specializes.)  Can I get support on these POS with a phone call?  No, I need to rely on a Aapl cultist to devise some esoteric key combo or a "jailbreak" on a Support board or blog site.
I'm eligible for a phone upgrade on 8/13 and I'm counting the days.  Will upgrade to a good large-screen laptop asap as well and then throw the Mac out my office window.  Junk, just junk.  Apple's stock is at $433 from $700 and it's still overpriced.  How long will this rant last before it's sanitized by the Cupertino Big Brother? Maybe what the children who design product ought to do instead is BUILD BETTER STUFF.

  • Mail app asking for passwords it already knows, taking accounts offline, intermittently failing to connect IMAP/SMTP

Recently I have been experiencing intermittent connection failures with Mail in OS X 10.7.5 on both our Mac Pro and MacBook Pro.
The little "lightning bolt" icon or the "exclamation point" icon will occasionally appear next to some or all of my accounts in the left column and Mail will (sometimes) prompt for passwords already in my keychain and then take the accounts offline. Sometimes the failures take place during IMAP logins and sometimes during SMTP sends. Sometimes they affect my iCloud accounts, sometimes my Gmail accounts, and sometimes both.
When I try to take the account(s) back online, Mail sometimes fails to do so. Quitting the Mail application completely and relaunching it will randomly result in the problem persisting or going away. What makes this so confusing is about half the time, Mail works just fine.
This is only happening on OS X, in Apple Mail, our iPad and iPhones appear unaffected even when running on the same router with the same ISP. I can also verify that all the iCloud and Gmail accounts in question can be reached successfully using other mail client software from Windows in my various virtual machines. Therefore I believe this is an application issue and not something related to my network.
When the issue is evident, Connection Doctor will fail on some or all counts...when it goes away Connection Doctor will show all green lights again.
This issue has only manifested in the past week or so, and both machines are up to date on Software Updates. Perhaps something pushed out recently from Apple is causing this? Is anyone else having a similar experience?

Same issue, too.  But I have nothing better to do than try to fix Apple problems that appear mysteriously and randomly; I'm sure you're the same way.

  • Spectrum and Spectrogram refreshed faster with task mgr open

I have an application that uses the PXI-5661 hardware to acquire 20 MHz
of spectrum. It is then displayed on the front panel using an
amplitude-frequency spectrum as well as a time-frequency spectrogram.
While the program was acquiring and displaying the two plots I randomly
pulled up a Windows task manager and noticed that my displays
immediately refreshed faster. When I minimized the task manager the
displays are refreshed slowly again. This is only noticeable when I am
calculating both the Spectrum and Spectrogram displays at the same
    time.
The reason I bring this up is because I would like my application to
run as smoothly as it does when the task manager is not minimized. I'm
sure it has something to do with Windows overhead junk running but I
just wanted to see if anyone else has run across this before.
    Thanks,

You don’t stop running because you get old. You get old because you stop running. -Jack Kirk, From "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall.

    All,
Thanks for the responses and suggestions. As it turns out, one of my parallel while loops didn't have a wait till next millisecond multiple timer. Once I put that in I did not notice a difference when minimizing or opening the task manager. However, it still doesn't explain why my application refreshed faster before I made the change. I'm using a state machine design approach with one loop that monitors the front panel GUI and another loop that conrols the hardware with specific states. The timer that I was missing was in the GUI loop. I have a theory that the issue is actually some quarky Windows XP thing that, when the task manager is open, it allows more resources to be used. I know, it doesn't make much sense but that is all I could think of. It doesn't really effect my application but I was just curious if anyone else has ever experience this anomaly with Windows task manager before.
As a side note: I noticed that with the task manager opened, my Labview application was using about 65% of my dual core CPU. However, when it was minimized I only saw a utilization of about 40%. (I realize that you can't see the utilization while it's minimized but immediately after I pulled up the task manager it would stay at 35-45% for about a second, then the application would appear to speed up and use around 60-65%) Strange......
    Thanks,
    Tim S.

  • Bootcamp causes RAM beeps

Each time I shutdown my windows bootcamp partition and then start up again I get the 3beeps of death indicating bad RAM. However this doesn't happen if I shutdown from OSX and boot up again only if I have previously been in windows. I have been testing this for more than a month so I am certain its not bad RAM. I have also tried two different copies of windows one which worked beautifully with my old macbook pro. Does a mac have a bios? presumably my windows partition is telling the bios to have a meltdown each time it next starts up?
Any ideas? I've done some serious scouring of the web to see if anyone else has had this problem and found nothing.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Windows Vista/7 have memtest on the DVD, use that. And do a scan for disk errors and bad sectors.
Clean up your Windows temp junk files with CCleaner (2.33) as well.
Check what you are running (startup, services, etc) from msconfig.exe
Maybe you have some drivers or conflicts, or a process that doesn't work or shutdown properly, such as AV (MSSE is excellent btw)
