Windows 7 is unsupported on Helix. Official answer from Lenovo telephone support.
I want to use my own Helix at work, where Win 7 is a corp standard (and Win 8 is strictly prohibited).
So, I bought Helix to downgrade to Windows 7.
Yesterday I requested OEM disks from Lenovo with Win 7. But today got answer from Lenovo telephone support - sorry, we don't support Win 7 on Helix, so will be no disks.
1) Can it be a mistake of the call-center operator? Is Win 7 indeed unsupported?
FYI. According to Microsoft, buyers of Win 8 devices with OEM license have right to downgrade to Win 7.
But if Lenovo doesn't ship OEM Win 7 disks with Helix - it becomes impossible.
2) Could you please suggest official licensing option, how an individual can buy Win 7 Pro (or Ultimate)?
Concerns:
- OEM Win 7 - I suppose, an individual cannot buy OEM Win-7 from the market and use it on own commodity computer - it's manufacturers' way only - for new or modified computers.
- OLP - it's 5 licenses minimum. Expensive for 1 individual, you should be a legal entity.
- Volume licensing - it's for Enterprises only.
So, I don't see any options, other than returning it to the shop or reselling (((
Folks who downgraded to Win 7, please suggest, how did you do it (except corporate volume licensing)?!

Here's what I think I know about downgrade rights: MS will allow a downgrade from Win 8 Pro to Win 7. The procedure is strange. Use an existing, in-use Win 7 license key. Activation will fail. Call Microsoft and get an activation code.

If you don't have install media you should be able to find a downloadable Win 7 install ISO. Google "legal windows 7 download notebook review". Where you find an in-use key, I'm not sure. At work perhaps.
At a quick glance, it looks like there are Helix Win 7 drivers in the support driver matrix. ThinkVantage System Update is included, so you should be able to use that to pull down drivers and apps. (I haven't tried this on a Helix).

Sure; that if this was once an awesome app that i would either go back to that version or, having been seduced by new features etc., i find that i can't live without them then I would (and have ) dl Reaper (mac, free), try the Sonar7 demo bootcamped (a truly awesome app), find an le version of Cubase (there's no demo and the full version ain't cheap) and try 'em all out on a second machine over a long, slow weekend. They all have strengths and weaknesses. They all have problems for some users. if you can get around on one of them you can quickly gain passable competence on any of them and at the very least you'll learn new things you can do with Logic and, more than likely, learn that Logic is still your favorite. 8 is a major overhaul, it's bound to take a few patches to get it right. Do we want it to be perfect out of the box? Of course. Is that ever gonna' happen? Noooo ... but if it doesn't work, go back to 7, hassle Apple about and wait till the fix it.

Until acrobat reader 7.05, any use of "get()" and "post()" FormCalc methods in any livecycle form, would not be allowed.
With acrobat 7.0.5, those functions already work in any form created with livecycle.
Is this a new functionality? Or someone has forgotten this methods...

T43 Vertical Scrolling Problem (not just Firefox)- Any official response from Lenovo
After searching the forum, i have not been able to find any response from Lenovo as to how to correct this problem.
Incidentally, my "occasional" vertical scrolling problem occurs in any browser, IE7, Firefox3, Opera9 (at least those 3) as well as Windows applications with a vertical scroll bar like Windows Explorer.
This only started to occur very randomly around 6 months ago. But as of late it is occuring more often.

might indicate that it is a possible hardware problem.
However, I have to say that I rarely use the laptop scrolling buttons and 99.9% of the time, latetly, I use a Logitech laser USB mouse for scrolling purposes.
As another possible work-around (if you are using an external mouse) is to uncheck the enable virtual scrolling in the touchpad properties window.
I certainly hope it is not a hardware problem, as the warranty on my T43 ran out a long time ago.
btw, I am running Windows XP Pro XP3.

How many times can Windows 7 be syspreped, what is the official Answer?
Hey everyone, can somebody out there give me the straight answer on this? What is the official number windows 7 can be syspreped? I am looking to build my reference images, but every time I do this I have to 150+ updates each time. Can
I get way with just updating the reference image every time? I have heard there is a Max number of times you can do this before you have to rebuild.
We are running WIndows 7 Enterprise with KMS.
Also will this apply to 8.1?

Sysprep limitations are due to the windows activation process.
There is no limit to the number of times that the Sysprep command can run on a computer. However, the clock for Windows Product Activation begins its countdown the first time Windows starts. You can use the sysprep /generalize command to reset Windows Product

Hello, I connected my ipod to my computer to charge it up and nothing happens. It died. I am noticing more people have the same issue without proper answers. I live in Peru and I do not guess it is a virus, Do you?
It's not a virus. Have you considered reading the User's Manual? Your computer needs to be "on", in order to charge your iPod.

What's the official word from Apple regarding anti-virus and its use with FCP?
There are currently no known virii that can affect Mac OS X. None whatsoever.
So when one does eventually turn up, you will have no protection at all because virus detection relies on your AV software being up to date with it's definitions that identify the virus signature.
While it will not be affected, your computer can still act as a virus carrier though, in that you can pass on an infected file from one Windows user to another. Depends on what your points of contact with others are. Limit those and you will increase security.
I send and receive files via FTP, sometimes dealing with people that I do not know. That computer has the free [ClamXav|http://www.clamxav.com> anti-virus on it. It is set to check my Mail and FTP Downloads folders only. The machine is not used for editing even though I have ClamXav limited in what it searches. Most commercial products constantly scan everything, which as already noted will have an effect on performance. -
My iphone4 officially unlocked from AT
I got an iphone4 from US. It was officially unlocked from AT&T and is in use in India in a network here. While an update to iOS 5.1.1 was attempted, towards end of download in iTunes (10.6.3.25) an error message 'error -1450' appears and it fails to update; I am using Windows XP home in a Pentium 4 PC with 1 GB RAM, 2.93 GHz Processor, Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials for Internet Security and net connection with speed upto 2 Mbps. can anyone help. Has Apple acknowledged the problem yet with itunes aborting preview of songs after about 10 seconds on windows 7 and if so is there an answer other than ipconfig? IPConfig /flushdns doesn't help at all. Until they fix it I will be previewing and buying my songs thru Amazon.

This is a clean install from s disc onto a 3TB GPT drive. This is for testing. I'm not concerned with finding a more practical solution for this installation.
There is no image or answer file involved. But at the "Completing Installation" phase, I receive this error message about an answer file.
Has anyone else expecrienced this problem? The only results I find here are regarding actual imaging with answer files.

EDIT 2: Since this now happens with every single installation of Server 2008 on this system, I feel the need to keep this open and elaborate on my situation.
I originally installed Server 2008 on the 2TB partition of this 3TB drive. The partition type was MBR. I reinstalled it (there was a false alarm for malicious software) since it was a fresh install without updates or anything else installed. And for the
second time, it installed fine.
I decided to make the most of my 3TB drive and try GPT partitioning. So I went into the command prompt > diskpart > ran "clean" on the disk, then "convert GPT"
That is when I tried another install of Server 2008 and received this error message about an answer file.
I decided to convert it back to MBR and get on with what I wanted to test in the first place. So I went into Diskpart again, ran "clean", rand "convert MBR" and started the install. But this resulted in the same error message about an
answer file.
I went back to Diskpart, "clean"ed the disk, ran "convert dynamic" to make sure it was dynamic, then tried the install again, with the same result.
Now, I've tried installing on the disk as GPT, MBR basic and MBR dynamic. I've tried a different installation disc, as well. I got the same result. At this point, I'm going to switch hard drives, but I'm still open to input. Thanks for reading!Hi,

An answer file may already contain in the disc which causes the issue.
If issue still exists you can click Shift + F10 during the installation process to see the log. Check if the installation error for detailed information.

How do I connect to Time Capsule from a Windows 8.1 machine which is on a Windows domain. I have been able to connect from a Windows 7 machine on a Windows domain to a Time Capsule. Airport utility is not displaying the Time Capsule Win8.1 machine.
I have checked that the firmware has been updated to 7.6.4 . Similalrly the Win8.1 machine has been loaded with the update specified in another discussion.Firstly how are you connecting to the TC.. wireless or ethernet?
Please open a command window and ping it.. ping by name and by IP address.
If ping succeeds at least by IP it should work.
In windows explorer type
\\10.0.1.1 (or whatever the TC ip is.. that is the default).
Having the airport utility for windows loaded can help the process. As it loads bonjour for windows.
7.6.4 firmware on the TC is useless. It works better on 7.6.1
If the ping does not succeed by either name or IP address yet you have internet through the TC, then your network is setup wrongly. You are have firewalls blocking local IP. Take down all the firewalls. -
I can't connect to the itunes store. I have the latest version of itunes on my windows 7 computer. I can connect to itunes from my ipad and ipod but no my windows computer. i dont get any error message, the bar at the top just says accessing itunes
Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

What to re-install from Lenovo on a Windows 7 64-bit system

As we already have volume licences for Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit systems, I made a clean install on my new ThinkPad X201, Type: 3323, Model: 8TG. Now, apart from the rescue image in the special partition that was there when the computer arrived, I would like to have all other "Lenovo features" that were pre-installed with the factory installation that came with the computer.
I have downloaded and installet the ThinkVantage toolbox and ThinkVantage System Update. It seems that Access Connections also is installed and the Power Manager.
However I have also downloaded and installed the Fingerprint Software for Windows 7, 64-bit, but I am not sure where to find it!!!
What else would you recommend that I download and install to make it work like the pre-installed x201 version from Lenovo?
Also I would like to know if I should use Windows 7's system image builder or Lenovo's own version?
And what about the migration tool from Lenovo? Is it better in anyway than Easy File Transfer that came with Windows 7??
