Windows 7 - Lightroom 5.3

After loadinf lightroom 5.3 in a windows 7 environment, there seemed to be an issue with the "color profile"...
Are there recommended profiles for 5.3?

Prior to Lightroom 5.3, I was running LR 5.0, with no issues.  After installing 5.3, all photographs, when loaded, appeared as gray boxes.  I went into the Color Management/Advanced and changed the Device Profile to the system default (sRGB IEC61966-2.1), and the photographs appeared in color.
My question is, is there a preferred color profile for LR5.3?

  • How can I get my Windows Lightroom photos to show in the correct order on Apple TV?

    I use Lightroom on Windows 7 and iTunes as well as a current generation Apple TV.  When I export a set of photos in a specific order from Lightroom, the files are named in the proper sequence, but when the photos are displayed in the Apple TV viewer, they do not show in filename sequence.  They apparently show in the date the photos were taken by my camera.  I have a mix of scanned images and photos in my desired sequence, so the Apple TV is next to useless in showing them as a slideshow on my large screen TV.
    My investigation led me to believe that Apple TV was showing the photos in the date taken, so I instructed Lightroom to omit that data on the exported files, and the date taken shows as missing on Windows, but in the Apple TV they still show in the same sequence.
    Help!!

    Me again.  I'm pretty sure I found a solution to my problem.  I had changed the order of my slides more than once, and it turned out that the "wrong" sequence that Apple TV was using for my slides was the original sequence, not the latest sequence.  I found that when I deleted the Apple TV Photo Cache folder and database, it got rebuilt by iTunes and the slide sequence was correct.  I have no reason why the order did not automatically get updated.  I'm on the rails now!

  • Different color issue in Windows Lightroom? Banding?

    I can't tell if I'm running into the same color issue other users are seeing, or if I've got my own issue going.
    I see what looks like color "banding" in Lightroom when I'm looking at the preview of a raw image. It happens most often in the shadows, where the fine gradations between shades are lost and the entire shadow area becomes one "blob" of the same color. (It looks like what happens when you look at in image in 8-bit display, after booting in Safe Mode.)
    I see this effect for RAW files from a Canon D60 (.crw) and Canon 30D (.cr2). I have a dual display setup, with a 24" external monitor (a BenQ WP241Z) and a laptop display. I'm using the color profile for the 24" monitor I obtained from Adobe Gamma until I get access to a colorimeter. Under the Color Management tab in the control panel, it shows the correct profile associated with my monitor.
    Opening the preview of the same image in Lightroom and Faststone on the 24" monitor shows a stark contrast -- I don't see the "banding" at all in Faststone. Instead, I see a gradual transition between shadow tones.
    Any idea what I'm doing wrong? It seems odd for Lightroom to look so *ugly*.
    Thanks!

    Hi, I think you might be seeing the same thing I experienced with my night shots. I imported them with the "none" preset, which actually means using Lightroom default settings.
    There was banding in the shadows, exactly as you describe, whereas Digital Photo Pro (canon's s/ware) showed it fine. I started playing around and found out the default setting of "Blacks" to "5" was the problem. Setting it to "0" took care of the banding. Hope that works for you.
    If so, and if you do import a lot of pics which require "Blacks" at "0", a good way to do this is to set "Blacks" to "0" and save your own preset, for use with those pictures that you know will show banding.
    Hope this helps,
    Kai

  • Migrate windows to Mac (Lightroom)

    I have used CClightroom for a while on Windows - I have now started using a Macbook - is it possible to transfer all my settings and images from Windows lightroom to Mac lightroom??Winows to Mac

  • How do I open a photo from Mac Finder in Lightroom?

    Here's the problem: I frequently need to search for photos in the Mac Finder (I actually use HoudahSpot and Path Finder, but it's similar with an exception I note below). I can search for keywords, like "yosemite." But the Finder and QuickLook are rather limiting; they don't reveal much photo metadata if any, and of course they show originals, since any edits or developments are in LR, not in the files themselves. And one does not export willy nilly, for that would defeat the purpose of having a DAM.
    So far, OK (I'd love to have LR integrated into more applications, as Aperture and iPhoto are in some "Insert" menus, or in dialog boxes, but that would be too useful...maybe the new Photos application? ). So I'm looking at a jpeg (because Apple still doesn't have support for my RAWs, but same result) that I think I wanna use. And I want to find it in Lightroom. But if I double click it, of course I'd get Photoshop or whatever application is the default for images. In Path Finder or some other utilities, unlike the Finder, I can actually select open in LR. But when LR does open, it shoots me to the import module. Not what I want.
    So, if one is looking at an image file in Finder, or otherwise outside LR, how does one easily and quickly go to that image in LR, in the Library module? sort of a "find in LR" command?
    I was looking around for Applescripts or Automator workflows, but only find ones that import, not find. There's an automator "find in iPhoto" step, but interestingly the Aperture one is deprecated. I thought I might have been able to modify it.
    GraphicConverter has a very nice "service," "GraphicConverter: Open in Browser" that does exactly what I want. But I couldn't find one for LR (and it's kinda hard to search successfully online for "services" related to LR, and I didn't find any services).
    Ideas?

    I have written the Lr (plugin) side, and created the capability to use Windows "Send to..." context menu to send a list of folders/files to Lightroom for selection.
    Here is the content of the god-aweful command file which does it in Windows, 'Lightroom File Selector.bat':
    @echo off
    for %%x in (%*) do (
        call :concat %%x
    start "%~n0" "lightroom://com.robcole.FileListener/Select/%pstr%"
    exit
    :concat
    set a=%1
    set lc=%a:~-1%
    if "%lc%%lc%"=="""" (
        set pstr=%pstr%[%a:~1,-1%];
    ) else (
        set pstr=%pstr%[%a%];
    Note: what it's doing is wrapping/separating all the folder/filenames received as arguments to the bat file, then appending them to the base url, for example:
    If you select folder "C:\MyFolder' and file 'C:\MyFiles\myfile.jpg' in Windows Explorer, then invoke the 'Send to' context menu item (or drag and drop directly on bat file), it will send the URL:
    lightroom://com.robcole.FileListener/Select/[C:\MyFolder];[C:\MyFiles\myfile.jpg];
    to whichever app is registered to handle it, i.e. Lightroom, which parses the plugin ID, and passes it to the plugin, which then parses the paths and then does the same thing as the "Choose Files Via OS & Select In Lightroom" script.
    Although I haven't got the Mac end, the goal would be the same - somehow translate the target folder/file paths from the format they're in to the requisite URL format and submit to OS, which submits to Lr, which submits to plugin.
    You can download the plugin here:
    http://robcole.com/Rob/_common/DownloadEasy/Download.cfm?dir=FileListenerLrPlugin&file=rc_ FileListener_(lrplugin)_1.0.zip
    There is no web page nor documentation for it, yet.

  • When opening image in Photoshop from Lightroom "edit it," it defaults to TIF format

    When I open an image in Photoshop CC by using the "edit with" command in Lightroom 5, after editing, the file will default to a TIF image rather than PSD. This ends up creating large, duplicate files (TIF and PSD) after I correct the problem.
    Isn't there a way to ensure Photoshop CC defaults to a PSD regardless of where it's opened.
    I do not use any editing or image-adjusting features in Lightroom. Nothing is changed in a photo until I edit in Photoshop. I open with RAW in photoshop.
    I'm using Windows 8.1 with plenty of memory and disk space.
    Thanks

  • Problems with impromptu slideshow in lightroom 5, functions such as flagging, rating not applying to all selected images?

    I'm using windows lightroom 5 and have just started to learn the programme.  I am using adobe photoshop lightroom 5 classroom in a book which is an official training workbook from Adobe so you'd think the instructions would work for the lessons but they don't. Is anyone else having problems getting ratings, flagging, colour labels to apply to selected images. Also the esc button doesn't take me back to the main working screen. Any ideas?

  • Lightroom cannot find Photoshop as primary external editor

    I have loaded photoshop and lightroom on my computer but, in the preferences dialogue window, lightroom says "photoshop not found" under the primary image editing option. I can find photoshop and set it as my alternate external editor but I can find no way to find and set photoshop as my primary. I would like to do that and then set Capture Nx as my alternate. Any suggestions? or do I have to re-install Lightroom?

  • Cannot import a photo into Lightroom 5.2

    See the Lamp and Chopper video at http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/21425173_dGgs24

    OK, the first "problem": one of them IS the original, which you modified by applying the tint adjustment. So why would you expect to see it in its "original" non-tint form? That will only happen if you step back in the history panel. Lightroom NEVER changes the original image data, but it does update the previews that you see with any adjustments that you make.....so you will always see the modified version of your original. In the Develop module, you applied the +100 tint adjustment, so you'll then see that adjusted image in the Library module. So seeing the modified original file in Library is the expected view, yes? You then exported that file, during which process Lightroom reads the original file, adds whatever changes you have in the develop history, and writes the new file.....which as expected then matches the modified original file when you see them side by side in the Library.
    I really don't understand why you see this as a problem, it is entirely normal behaviour.
    The second problem: when you made that +100 tint adjustment to your original, the effect of having that XMP setting checked in your Catalog settings means that almost as soon as you made the change, Lightroom will write that change into the XMP portion of the file's header. It does NOT, however, recreate the small embedded Jpeg preview in your file. That embedded thumbnail preview is what you see when you look at the file in something like Explorer/Finder, and if you fully open that file in say Windows Photo Viewer you will still see the original image (because Lightroom hasn't changed it).
    However, when you remove that file from Lightroom and then re-imported it, the sequence is as follows:
    In the Import window, Lightroom will show you the embedded jpeg preview, i.e. the original unmodified image.
    But then during import Lightroom will detect the XMP data that was written to the file, and because Lightroom wrote it it can decipher it and apply it. So after import you see the modified image. Again, entirely expected behaviour, once you understand the sequence. Also note that most non-Adobe products will NOT be able to understand XMP develop data written by Lightroom, so will ignore it. So open that file in a photo viewer, you see the original, but open it is Photshop or Lightroom and you see the modified version.
    But that aside, there really was no need to remove the original in the first place.

    I just signed up for the special that is being run - Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 for $9.99 per month. I was able to download Photoshop CC without any problems. When I try to download Lightroom 5, it opens up one window......but then nothing happens. When I scroll through the programs in this window, Lightroom is not in there. So I can't click on it again, nor does it begin to download automatically.

    On Windows, Lightroom 3.3 will hang when importing .AVI videos when the following is true:

    - Rename Files is selected
    - Filename pattern includes "exposure"
    Changin to a pattern that only includes date and time will make the import succeed.

    If it really failed in ntdll.dll it might be a system issue.  Make sure you disable all real-time anti-virus processes, and make sure your Windows system is up-to-date.
    Otherwise, it will be hard to know what is going on. If it persists, open a support ticket with Adobe. Take a look in the event viewer to make sure you have all the details of the crash.

  • Lightroom 4 performance issues solved!

    Buy or build a new computer - (intel i7 3770K or similiar) overclock to 4ghz, 16GB ram, solid state drive for boot and programs
    Install only windows, lightroom, photoshop, and windows security on computer.
    Put computer power management into high power mode (keeps the processor prepped at all times)
    turn off all development modules except basic and tone curve.. (especially evil histogram)
    This has gotten me almost lag free performance while editing in lightroom.... and I say almost because it's still not pefect . With this setup I can finally crop photos without having to wait a second or more for the draw tool to become responsive... but not in full screen mode of course.
    By the way, I think that these types of contortions are ridiculous since I used to have lag free editing in adobe camera raw on a computer with 1/16 the hardware specs (and running vista!). However the workflow is so much better in lightroom than any other option that I'm willing to bend over backwards to make it work.  So, adobe, here is your notice... We're all looking for something better.

    Me too. From best I can tell, it's karma, luck, will o' th' gods...
    Works unencumbered on some moderately-powered machines, slow-as-molasses on some high powered machines, or vice versa - both Windows & Mac.
    That said, rebuilding computer forces new drivers for system devices, and re-initializes a bunch of stuff - which may contribute to performance.
    Reminder: abnormally poor performance occurs when Lr is getting held up, instead of doing it's thing - whether that happens or not is dependent on a lot of factors... - point being, if Lr4 is operating normally (meaning efficiently / unencumbered) on 2 computers, then it'll be faster on the faster machine of course, but the big trick is taking away the hurdles...
    Congrats to OP for taking the initiative to improve his/her situation .
    Interesting tidbit: My Lr performance often goes south when my internet connection drops out - which it does far too often where I live and do most of my work from. Why? I have no idea, but if I had to guess I'd say Lr is using some library that does some system call, which gets hung up when it had an internet connection but lost it - such is not handled gracefully, memory is not released, and it keeps happening..., or something like that. I know some folks problems were due to having wonky DVDs in their drive, or USB phones connected, or monitor cal devices... - doesn't take much, and not everybody will have the same problem due to the same thing...
    Even though my luck has been relatively good w/Lr4, I do hope Adobe takes a serious look at how they're doing things...
