Windows 7 No 5GHZ WiFi on Mac Mini A1347 2010 Model using BootCamp

I have a new 2010 model mac mini and the WiFi in snow leopard works fine with both a 2.4GHZ and a 5GHz connection. When I reboot into Windows 7 I am only able to use a 2.4GHz connection and the 5GHz connection does not even show up as an option to connect to.
Any ideas?

  • Mac Mini Server (Latest Model) and Bootcamp?

Hi, I am interested in purchasing a Mac Mini Server - The latest model. But have a few questions
1.) Before I purchase soon, is there an updated line coming out that I should wait for - Or no rumors as of yet?
2.) I read a while back that Mac Mini server, could not bootcamp. But recently came across a post stating that the newer systems w/ Mountain lion contained the necesscary files to bootcamp Windows 7 (off google, lost original link)
I need bootcamp for Audio production as some programs I have are windows only.

Yes, thank you for your reply. I did purchase the adapter, which works perfectly.
But now of course I have other issues regarding the use of 2 monitors. I now have both my Macs hooked up to the KVM using the 30" but I am unable to view the other monitor which is not a High definition display(1280 x 1024). It seems the only other port available on the Mini is the HDMI port which I have the HDMI to DVI adapter for. Is it possible to connect this VGA display with a DVI to VGA adapter (which I have)? Or am I looking at yet another purchase of a compatible display? This VGA display is primarily used for communications with coworkers..etc so that my 30" is only for my work. Thanks so much for your help.

  • Max capacity for sd card slot Mac Mini mid 2010

Has anyone with a MAC Mini mid 2010 tried using the SD card slot for an extended drive?  I'm wondering what the max size is for the slot, and if I put a 64-128 gig SD Card in, would OS X 10.8.2 be able to combine that with an internal HD to create a "fusion drive"?

Your Mid 2010 Mac mini doesn't support SDXC, so you can't use this type of cards. Fusion Drive needs an SSD and a hard drive on the same Mac mini, so an SD won't work with this

  • Mac Mini (mid 2010) failed - won't pass POST

Three weeks ago my new Mac Mini (mid 2010 model) was delivered. It lasted 8 hours before dying. The replacement lasted longer, working beautifully for eight days before apparently failing in the same manner: powered on, in sleep mode, left alone. Dies. Doesn't respond to SMC or PMU resets. It's been a box-for-box swap for its predecessor on my desk, a late-2006 Mac Mini.
I presume that two failures in this way is pretty unusual - is there anything in my set-up that could be causing this or am I just very unlucky? (The machine itself is going to see a Genius next week)

I will venture that you were unlucky. Twice could be a coincidence. However, if it were to occur again, then you have a pattern and I would imagine that Apple would think something in your home/office is causing the issue and be less likely to want to swap for another.

  • Does the Mac mini mid-2010 have an active PFC power supply?

I'm about to buy a UPS unit to run my NAS, and I'd like to connect my Mac mini to it as well. Does the Mac mini mid-2010 model have an active PFC (power factor correction) PSU (power supply unit)?
I've read that if it does (as the Dell XPS series do), then one of the cheaper UPS units won't work because those typically have modified/simulated sine wave outputs (you'll only notice when the power is out and the UPS is feeding power from its battery). It would mean I'd have to buy one of the more expensive UPS units like APC Smart-UPS SC620 or CyberPower CP1000PFCLCD.
I can't seem to find any resources that explain this. Please?

FWIW, I use one of these:
    http://www.cyberpowersystems.com/products/ups-systems/soho-ups/cp425slg.html?sel ectedTabId=overview&imageI=#tab-box
for my HTPC setup.  I have a 2010 Mini with a couple of USB drives plugged
into it, my 42" Samsung LCD TV, cable modem, cable box, and an Airport Extreme
Base Station running off of the backup power ports (not my 5.1 receiver for obvious
power reasons).  With all on, I get enough time to gracefully power down the Mini with
time to spare when power goes out.  When not watching TV or listening to music,
the cable modem and AEBS can run a long time during a power outage.
I have had this setup for around 2 years and have had no ill effects on any of
the gear and I do periodically have everthing powered then yank the AC
    cord to cycle the battery.

  • Maximum RAM upgrade for Mac Mini mid-2010?

    Hi,
I have a Mac Mini mid-2010 (Model 4.1).   I purchased it with 4 Gb RAM, and I am now considering a RAM upgrade.
I currently am running OS 10.95 - and not particularly happy with the sluggish performance that has been the hallmark of my 'upgrade' to Mavericks on this machine. I figure that increasing RAM can only help what has become a sometimes teeth-gnashingly slow computer.
In any case, the Apple tech specs document says that the maximum RAM for this machine is 8 Gb.  However, the macmemory.com web page for this model Mac Mini says it can handle 16 Gb so long as the OS is 10.7 or greater.
Is this true?  Anyone tried this?
    Thanks,
    HJ

  • Will I able to install Logic on Apple Mac Mini A1347 with this requirements:

    Hi,
Will Logic Pro 9 able to run smoothly on this system configuration:
    Apple Mac Mini A1347 <MC815RS / A> i5 2410M / 2 / 500 / WiFi / BT / MacOS X    ?
    Is 2048МB of RAM enough?
    Thank you in advance!

Thank you chorleyman! I just need a cheap platform for Logic to run, I'm not an advanced user, just to play for my soul. I'm usually using Windows based platforms, that's why I was confused about this particular model.
So if it looks good I think I will order this hardware next week.
If anyone have any more thoughts about the topic, please feel free to comment here! Thank you!

  • Messed up my wife's Mac Mini

Today I tried to set permissions on my wife’s mac mini HD (Snow Leopard) to be read and write accessible to ‘everyone’ and clicked the option for it to ‘apply to enclosed items’, after which I got the horizontal barber poll, and after about 15 minutes got a pop-up alert that something wasn’t installed correctly (I really don’t remember what it said), and when I clicked to close it, there was another similar alert about a different file/extension, then another, and another. Clearly my trying to set the permissions that way had caused all these alerts. After clicking out of about 40 of the alerts, I decided to just force shut down the machine, and I haven’t been able to get it to boot up normally since. I get the logo screen with spinner and it never goes any further. I have a Windows Boot Camp partition and I can boot into that and work in Windows just fine.
Here’s what I tried to no avail:
Safe Boot – I get the progress bar under the logo, which gets to about half-way then disappears and nothing more happens.
Booted into Single User Mode and ran /sbin/fsck –fy. Got “Macintosh HD appears OK”
Booted to the install CD, which is OS 10.4.10, and ran disk utilities to repair disk, verify disk, repair permissions, verify permissions with all checking ‘ok’.
Reset the PRAM several times in a row.
Tried to reset nonvolatile firmware, and I just get the logo and spinner – no command line prompt.
The only other suggestion I’ve found it to “test the kernel” by reinstalling the OS. Unfortunately, I do not currently have the Snow Leopard upgrade disk, and if I were to reinstall, would that delete all my files on the HD?
Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated as I am typing this from the proverbial doghouse.
    Thank you,  Scott

I  solved a similar issue for another person who did this a few days ago, and even reproduced the effects on one of my clone drives for kicks.
    Oh brother what a mess.
I've got some bad news, the whole OS X partiton will have to be erased and everything reinstalled, because despite doing everything, I couldn't set things back to what they were.
Unfortunately, I do not currently have the Snow Leopard upgrade disk, and if I were to reinstall, would that delete all my files on the HD?
Call Apple via phone (only way) and order the 10.6.3 white retail disk.
Try a #8 Reinstall Just OS X, and if it boots you might be able to grab the files to a external storage drive (not timemachine for this)
Step by Step to fix your Mac
    Most commonly used backup methods
If that doesn't work, you can install 10.6.3 on a external blank powered drive and boot from it and grab the files
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
Once the files are off, Secure Erase Zero All Data the entire OS X partition (not your entire drive or Bootcamp) and follow these 10.6 install instructions, then update to 10.6.8
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
Unfortunatly the entire OS X partition needs to be erased and reformatted, OS X installed fresh because Disk Utility Repair Disk/Permisions and fixing User Permissions didn't work at all in my experiments.
If you have further problems, you might have to backup out of  Bootcamp and erase then entire drive and start over.

No guarantees, but you could startup to your Vista DVD and try repairing startup. Just choose the options that move you closer and closer to Windows fix options, not toward installation.

    Hi there,
The simplest way is to drag it across wirelessly using the 'Airdrop' application once both computers are near one another. 'Airdrop' can be found near the top, on the left hand side menu, within 'Finder'.

  • Is it possible to install and run Windows Server 2008 on a Mac Mini Server in a Virtual Machine software like Parallels

I am wondering if it is possible to install and run Windows Server 2008 on a Mac Mini Server as a VM as my main application uses Windows VisualBasic and Fox Pro and requires a Static IP to connect to it, My other offices connects to Windows Server via RDP.
Basically I am researching a Server for the same purpose and since Mac Mini and OsX both are robust in nature it can fit the bill if every thing work fine.
    Thanks

    From the Parallels website:
    32-bit Operating Systems
Windows 8 with: Windows 8, 8.1 (when available)
    Windows 7 SP1
    Windows Vista SP0, SP1, SP2
    Windows Server 2008 R2, SP2, SP1, SP0
    64-bit Operating Systems
    Windows 8
    Windows 7 SP1
    Windows Vista SP0, SP1, SP2
    Windows Server 2012
    Windows Server 2008 R2, SP2, SP1, SP0
I do suggest that you upgrade RAM to at least 8gig
    if you haven't already.
FWIW, I currently use Win8/64 bit with Parallels on a 2011 Mini Server
using the windows environment for engineering applications and have
had no issues.  I am running Mountain Lion but do not have the
    Server app installed.

  • Where can I buy a replacement DVD drive for a mac mini A1347

My mac mini is out of warranty and my toddler stuffed several discs into the drive slot.
Whenever it booted, it made a horrible ratcheting clicking noise, but couldn't eject anything.
I disassembled the entire computer, and pulled all 3 discs out with pliers. After reassembling, the computer works fine, but the DVD drive won't "catch" a disc and pull it in. I'm pretty sure some gear or something has been irreparably damaged, or that I bent it as I was pulling the disc out.
I've been having a difficult time trying to find a replacement drive to order anywhere.
Besides going with an external USB drive, does anyone know of the cheapest option for a replacement slot drive for the mac mini A1347. (AKA "mid 2010", AKA Core 2 Duo DDR3).
I don't want to haul it down to an Apple Store and pay a huge premium to have them diagnose and replace a part that I'm very capable of doing myself.

If your in the US then the ifixit link is a good option, in the UK the following is an option

However when I had to replace a drive in a Mac mini, I bought a bare drive off eBay.

  • Mac Mini Server (2010) & Windows Server 2008

    Hi,
Would it be possible to boot, install and run Windows Server 2008 on the Mac Mini Server, replacing Snow Leopard Server OS? I assume I need the SuperDrive or similar DVD drive to realize this scenario.
    Regards,
    sb

Seems possible although I would say one needs some care to ensure that the cooling systems operate as needed.

  • Mac Mini Mid 2010 windows won't boot

After using boot camp to install and run Windows 7 on a Mac Mini Mid 2010, I restarted the machine to boot OSX. Now I can't boot back to Windows. Boot Camp seems to be working fine, but the partition I created doesn't appear to be bootable. I don't know what to do or how to solve the issue. How can I solve this issue?
