Windows 7 no longer requires hardware virtualization to run Win XP mode

See this link  You still need to have Win 7 Pro of higher to run it.  The XP mode will use hardware virtualization if it's present.

Thanks for your quick response.

Hi,
I am Prasad, I want one clarification on Win7 64 bit inside we are running Windows XP in virtual mode. I am facing the problem in COM interface DLL which will do remote access to server & Core banking , Client & core banking.
Now the client (vendor)  running the application in  Win7 64 bit of Windows XP application by making XP environment virtually in Win 7 64 bit OS.
Here entire application is working fine apart from COM interface DLL (Even though we are exporting as .msi package and we are installing in Virtual Xp machine tried with both versions of 1.0 and 1.5)
Can anyone please let me know is there any possibility to overcome this situation without upgrade the entire product to Win 7 for time being?
Thanks In Advance..

Based on my knowledge, a 32 bits components can run on a 32 bit virtual machine. Do you get any error message?

• Java 1.4.2 requirements in Linux for running in headless mode

Hi,
I need to generate graphics in a Linix server running jdk 1.4.2, but it has no X-windows installed.
I would like to know if it is required to have x-windows installed, or is it required to be present only some libraries, like GD, pnglib, etc?
Regards,
Gabriel

You could use JVM 1.3.X because it uses SSL from the Internet Explorer, not the JSSE SSL.
Apart of this, you could see if the implementation of PKCS#11 for the forthcoming J2SDK 1.5 works with your card AND if JSSE can use the PKCS#11 Sun Provider. Download the beta and try it.

• Mac Pro, Windows 7 Virtual PC-XP Mode Problem w/ Hardware Virtualization

I have installed windows 7 (64 bit) on an 8 month old intel mac pro with latest bootcamp. runs great. cannot get virtual pc / xp mode to work.
confirmed latest firmware, confirmed processor has virtualization (vmx listed in processor details when boot to snow leopard).
when i run ms hardware-assisted virtualization detection tool it confirms hardware virtualization. after i install xp mode and virtual pc update i get an error message that there is no virtualization. ms hardware-assisted virtualization detection tool will now also report no virtualization. if i uninstall xp mode and virtual pc update, ms hardware-assisted virtualization detection tool will again confirm virtualization.
any thoughts? i searched forum but did not see anything - sorry if i missed it.
thanks in advance for input...

Because the hardware of Mac Pro does have Intel-VT capability, it's just disabled.
One solution (though a very lame one) is boot into OS X first, run VMware Fusion or Parallel (which enables Intel-VT), then restart into Windows.
Just hope there would be some way to enable Intel-VT on Windows...

• Windows 7 64bit Safely Remove Hardware Icon takes too long

With XP it takes 2 seconds to remove a jump drive with Safely Remove Hardware
But, on my Windows 7 pro 64 bit running a i3 Core-330M(2.13GHz) with 4GB RAM, it takesaround 30 seconds.
Here is what happens:
#1: I get an hour glass for 7 seconds that goes away.
#2: Nothing happens. There is no feedback that anything is is still happening under the covers.
#3: After another 27 seconds the list of removable drives appears, and I can remove the drive.
I am resigned to just living with this, since it is not worth any effort to fix.
But, I would like to know if this is normal behavior.
If this is abnormal, perhaps my new Lenovo EDGE 14 may have some hardware problems?
Thanks ind advance for any light on how to solve this.

• Hardware virtualization enabled but not working in HP Pavilion p6

I've got an HP Pavilion p6 series (Model no. p6-2003es), with an up-to-date v7.15 BIOS, and I'm unable to use hardware virtualization.
I've enabled Virtualization in the BIOS under System Security, pressed F10 and saved the changes as per the usual procedure when modifying BIOS settings. However, when trying to run virtualization software (Virtualbox in this case), I get a warning notice stating that processor supports virtualization, but it's not enabled.
This seems to be the case: the feature is supported, but the BIOS does not seem to change the setting and enable it. I've tested it under 2 different OSs, with the same result:
Under the original Windows 7 64-bit, I've ran the Microsoft HAV Detection Tool, which tells me that hardware virtualization is not enabled.
Under Ubuntu 12.04, I've ran the rdmsr tool, which allowed me to read the AMD MSR (Model Specific Register) bits concerned with virtualization, and confirmed that they are not enabled.
I suspect that this is a BIOS issue (i.e. it's not setting the bits required to enable virtualization), but after a search on the forums it strikes me that no one has reported it yet, so any help, comments or workaround for this issue will be really welcome.
Thanks!

• How to enable T61 Hardware Virtualization?

Acoording to the annoucement of Intel:
http://ark.intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?familyId=26548
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=31728
My Core2Due T7250 Processor should support "Intel® Virtualization Technology (VT-x)".
So I updated the latest Bios (2.26), and enabled VT in the bios->Config->CPU->Intel® Virtualization Technology (VT-x)=>"Enable". Then press F10 to save the bios, and powered off
and powered on the computer.
But I tested with SecurAble
http://www.grc.com/securable.htm
it still shows Hardware Virtualization: "No". (neither "Locked off" not "Locked on")
and also with "Intel Processor Identification Utility"
http://www.intel.com/support/processors/tools/piu/
it shows "Intel® Virtualization Technology: NO"
I have Googled and tested everything for two days, but no help. Can anyone please tell me your idea?
Someone mentioned that the Hardware Virtualization is not only due to CPU but also is related with the motherboard chipset. Is this true?
My notebook is T61 with CPU: Core2Duo T7250 (revision A3 tested by Intel Processor Identification Utility), and chipset: PM965, running Win2008 x64.
Bios: 2.26-1.08
Chipset: PM965
OS: Windows Server 2008 x64
Model: 6459CTO

But as long as I turned off the Hardware D.E.P in Bios->Security->Memory->Data Prevension, and tested it again, SecurAble shows "Hardware Virtualization: Yes".
Is this a problem of the Lenovo/IBM Bios?

This has been posted for almost 2 weeks and not one reply. Thanks a bunch! As a newbie to OOo and Mozilla, I am not impressed with responsiveness to support needs with either. So, the future of my new experiment with going non-Microsoft remains an open question.
Oddly enough, the problem mysteriously went away. I have followed the same routine and changed no settings. Suddenly all of the downloaded spreadsheets were no longer read-only. So I consider the matter resolved.

• H61M-P20 G3 Hardware Virtualization

Hello, I am trying to enable hardware virtualization my motherboard to run VMBox. When I ran the windows test it said I have virtualization but I need to enable it in my BIOS. I have looked in my bios for sometime and I can't find anything about it. I have an Intel Core i3 2120 and it says on the intel website it supports virtualization. When I ran CPU-ID it tells me under instructions that my CPU supports VT-x. From what I was able to find I need to enable it in my BIOS but I can not find it anywhere please help. I have the latest bios version(1.5).

If available, it should be found in the UEFI/BIOS sub menu of CPU Features to be enabled or disabled.

• T400 - serious graphical glitches while Hardware Virtualization is turned on in the BIOS.

While hardware virtualization is enabled in my T400, I'm getting serious graphical glitches (garbled graphics). This happens both when outputting to the T400's monitor or when outputting to an external display.
I actually don't have to do anything special to get the garbling to start - just booting Windows 7 and using it regularly will make it start to glitch.
Help please.

Thank you for that link, it was very helpful.
The 'solution' of course, was far from satisfying (I'm experiencing Type B visual corruption). Especially considering the model I'm using is preconfigured - Lenovo shipped it with a 2GB+1GB DIMM.
It boggles my mind that Lenovo uses a configuration that is not fully compatible with the processor.
I don't find it so odd, most users will never use the virtualization feature.  I personally have 3gb in my T500 and have used H-V with the ATI chipset and it works as it should, I've tried it with the Intel GPU and it is garbage   but then again.. the intel 4500 is kinda garbage..

• Windows Partition No Longer Shows Up After Accidental Premature Closing of Camptune

Mac OS X 10.7.5
I was running Paragon Camptune to expand my Windows 7 partition. The progress bar reached the end and stayed there for about 30 minutes. The Camptune window was then accidentally closed and Camptune quit itself. I restarted the computer but the Windows partition no longer shows up when I try to boot it, only Mac OSX and Recovery Disk. The Bootcamp drive is no longer accessable from System Preferences, and the Bootcamp partition folder is no longer accessable in the Devices area of Finder. Camptune no loner recognizes that there was a partition. Thus, I am no longer able to access the partition's contents or delete it and make a new one.
It would be preferable if I could fix the partition and have it accessable again, however I have no problem with deleting it and making a new partition. Any advice? Thanks for your time.

Hi Eric,
Bootcamp does show up in the disk utility but it is grey instead of black like the Macintosh HD.

• K9N Platinum Hardware Virtualization?

Hi all!
I have an MSI K9N Platinum 7250 and an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Windsor AM2 F2 processor. The 3800+ supports hardware virtualization, but I cannot find a way to enable it in the Bios.
I ran the Live Update 5 utility, and it shows the current BIOS version as being 1.K0 (I think its an error and should be 1.0). Either way, the Live Update utility does not show any new updates to the Bios.
Does this mean that even though my CPU supports Hardware Virtualization, there is no way for me to use it as my Motherboard cannot?
This is quite deceiving as when I bought the motherboard a few years ago, in the description it said that it supports the new AMD X2 range which has features such as hardware virtualization.
Any help would me much appreciated.
Thank you!

I just did, and I got the following message:
"This System is not compatible with Hyper-V
This utility detected that a necessary BIOS patch is not installed."
I dont get it though as everywhere I've read, it says the Windsor chips were the first to support Hardware Virtualization, and the 3800+ is a Windsor one. My CPU box has this on it: "AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Dual Core Processor Socket AM2 Windsor 2.0GHZ 2x512KB 89W 90NM Retail"
Is the Live Update 5 tool not detecting that a newer Bios version is out? I see there is a 7250v1B one can download from the 7250 support page, but I thought the Live Update 5 tool is the best thing to use for updating Bios?
