Windows 7 not booting

Hi, I've got a c660/c660d laptop and the windows doesn't boot. I've tried everything even pressing power on plus the zero key. It always comes back to launch repair. But if I do that a black screen with an arrow comes out. I've got system recovery disc 1 &2 but still it doesn't work. Please help me.

Are you able to see the BIOS screen?
Do you seen the Windows LOGO at all?
On the black screen, are there any error numbers?
Does it shut off by itself?
Also the complete model number helps.

  • Boot device not found. "Hard disk not exist". windows not booting

    Product: HP G72-110SA
    OS: Win7
two days ago, I was installing updates on my computer and when it was about to restart, it froze. After waiting for 10 minutes, I had to turn it off by pressing the off button. From then on, the computer turns on but shows a message "Boot device not found".
I have tried all the BIOS tests that I could find on the net for the hard disk, eg: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01443465&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=uk&dlc=en&la...
This gives me a "Hard disk not exist" error. I tried resetting the BIOS, that didn't work. I tried taking out and putting back in the battery, the memory and the hard disk. Still no luck.
I then booted ubuntu from cd on the computer. It works just fine, including the internet etc EXCEPT the HDD is still not detected.
I had some pretty important stuff and no back up, so would appreciate if someone can help me get back the data. If not, even if I know its just a HDD failure and not a motherboard/BIOS problem, it will be a relief as its probably fixable.
    Thanks

    Hi there ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great site to get answers and ask questions. I would be happy to assist you. As there are many models of HP Notebooks, I would need the model number. (How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?) When I went to www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup, it gave me documentation and troubleshooting steps to follow. One of the documents it provided is called Hard Disk Error Displays before the Computer Starts. NOTE: I recommend at this point you make an immediate backup of all important data and files. Here are instructions on how to Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8). Please follow the troubleshooting steps provided, re-post with the results of the troubleshooting in detail. Thank you.

  • Windows not booting after Winclone

    Hi Guys,
I have a MBP and I have just installed a new 1TB HD. I successfully cloned the osx drive and restored it and all aplications are working fine. I then bought winclone. Cloned the boot camp and restored it. When I tried to boot into windows it said there is a boot failure. Hardware has changed. Im running windows & pro.
I have followed every thep outlined. I have gone from a 300 to 700gb partition from windows. As far as I understand thats what winclone does. Does anyone have any advice?
    It will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you
    Warren

Haviing the same processor socket would sortof help limit to differences in motherboard, but moving to a different motherboard is always (was) a disaster 95% of the time.
There are commercial programs to take a windows image, on a Windows system! and adjust the drivers when importing a new Windows image.
Tools for importing physical and virtual back and forth, but with Windows already present.
And with Macs by "same processor family" that is also likely to be safer.
Sounds like a lot of really good work went into WinClone in the end.
It was so slow, and during backup image creation unlike say Paragon and Acronis or Ghost, that is when  you also scan for and detect system errors, bad sectors being read and insure you have and know you have a good image - and not when you go to restore. Though a sucessful restore is the best "test."
Would be nice if the backup was incremental.
If all you have is core Windows OS then it will be under 30GB so small (Blue-Ray would be nice here).
Now to see how soon WinClone supports Windows 8 RC which will be harder, based on changes in Windows system extra partitions and that even Paragon is not certified to work and listed as "incompatible."

Now it gets even stranger.  As suspected the configuration is correct as I now have it booting into windows.
The strange part is, all was working ok until I applied all current updates, then it went into windows recovery mode and can't find my partition for recovery (only option I have is to reboot)
Have no idea what happened, so I re-installed.  Re-installed ok, but the same problem as before, no boot volume found.
Re-installed again, but this time I released the windows boot media from the virtual CDROM drive while it was rebooting.
    Windows booted sucessfully.
    Very Strange.

  • Windows not booting after reinstalling Mavericks

I had some trouble with Mavericks after an update, so i had to reinstall. After doing so Bootcamp is no longer working.
I've used target disk mode to check that windows actually is there, and it is. The Bootcamp partition is also showing like
it should in startup disk. It just won't boot. I get a black screen with a message saying that there's no bootable device found.
Is there a way to fix it, or do i have to backup as much as possible and reinstall windows 7?
    Please help!

Can you boot the Mac, with the Bootcamp issues, into OSX properly?
    A. If yes, can you post the text output of the following Terminal commands.
    diskutil list
    diskutil cs list
    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0
sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0
Please enter your password when prompted. Remove any personal information as you see fit.
    B. If TDM is available, you can do the same set of commands from the functional Mac which can see the TDM disk with the malfunctioning BC installation.

  • I/O Error leads to Windows not booting up.

I'm not too computer savvy or anything like that but I'll try to explain my situation to the best of my extent.
This just started happening about 25 minutes ago. I first noticed something was wrong while I was downloading some stuff, utorrent would pop up with an error, saying there was some sort of "I/O Error" and then, I noticed that videos on youtube would kind of lag but they wouldn't stop, they'd make like a buzzing noise.
So I figured I'd turn off the computer and turn it back on, well now Windows won't start. I run Windows 7 and when I choose to run Windows normally, it'll get to that "Windows is loading" screen and eventually, it'll show a quick flash of that blue screen then restart. I've tried the other option, repair windows or something like that. It just leads me to a black screen with a cursor and does nothing.
I've tried loading it in safe mode and it'll start loading all the drivers and stuff but then it'll do the whole "quick blue screen flash, restart" thing.
    Anyone know what's up?

Yvan Koenig has said he has some AppleWorks 5 files fail to open in AppleWorks 6 with the I/O error. I've never had a problem opening any AppleWorks 5 files whether they were created on a Mac or PC.
Are you sure that some of these files aren't ClarisWorks 4 or earlier files? AppleWorks 6.2.9 (the current version) can't open all ClarisWorks 4 or earlier files & gives an I/O error. There doesn't appear to be a way to predict which files will cause problems. I've had it happen & not happen with all AppleWorks file types. These files can be opened by any other version of AppleWorks 6.
I'm not clear if it's one file or all of the files you can't open. If it's just one or a few, I'd think there is some corruption in the file. If it's a lot (more than half) & you're sure they are AppleWorks 5 files, some basic troubleshooting might help.
First step, delete the AppleWorks 6 preferences as they may be corrupt, particularly the translator cache. See my user tip, AppleWorks has stopped working correctly, for more info.
Did you move these files from one Mac to another using a USB flash drive or other removable device? If the device is PC-formatted, some information in the files may have been lost in the transfer. Another user tip addresses this problem - AppleWorks 6 won't open my AW 5 files.
I'd be willing to take a look at two or three of these problem files for you & see if I can figure out where the problem is. E-mail them to me with a subject line of "I/O errors." Just click my name in blue next to this post. My public e-mail address is in the biography section.

  • 2009 Mac Pro will not boot up under Windows

I have an Early 2009 Mac Pro system (Mac Pro 4,1) and I've had this system for 3 years already and have been working under OS X with this system ever since I purchased it.
However, when I tried to boot off my Windows disk, something very interesting happens. The Mac Pro WILL NOT boot up off the Windows disk or a known working Windows partition if two monitors are connected. Upon holding down the option key and selecting the Windows partition, I will get a black screen on one monitor (the one connected via Mini Displayport) and the other screen receives no signal and will enter standby and the system is halted. It does not respond to keystrokes, there is no hard drive activity, no measured power increase on the UPS, no apparent network activity, nothing. The only way to exit this scenario (from what I can tell) is to power off the machine, disconnect the display on DVI, power on the machine again, select the Windows partition wait for the system to reach the login window and reconnect the DVI monitor (at which time Windows recognizes it immediately and the system works fine again).
My question to the community is, does anybody know why this is happening and is there a known fix for this? Quite frankly, having to disconnect a monitor just to restart is very tedious and frustrating.
I have two Samsung P2350 monitors attached to an ATI Radeon HD 4870 (512MB, from Apple). One is monitor is connected via directly DVI and the other is using a Mini Displayport to DVI adapter. Both monitors work fine under OS X with no issue. At first, I thought that this may be a driver issue on the Windows side and after installing all the latest updates and drivers the issue is still apparent. From what I can tell, this doesn't seem like a software issue but rather a firmware or EFI issue as this happens before Windows even loads.
If anyone knows of a fix or what to do in this situation, or if you are also having this issue, I would love to hear your input!
    Thank you!
For the record, I am running all the latest software builds on the OS X side (10.7.4, not that it would really matter at this point). I have also disconnected all unnecessary equipment in a trial and error scenario but the results are still the same.
The system passes all ASD testing.
The full specification of the computer and all connected equipment are as follows:
    2009 Mac Pro (4,1) 8-Core
    2x Intel Xeon Nehalem 2.66GHz Quad-Core CPUs
    16GB DDR3 ECC 1066MHz RAM (Apple Branded)
Two OWC 120GB SSDs (One for OS X, the other for Windows 7 x64) - These are in place of my optical drives.
4x 2TB WD Black Hard drives for storage.
Two Samsung P2350 Monitors connected via DVI. (One using a Mini Displayport to DVI adapter).

In Windows I am using the latest (12.4) Catalyst Software Suite, 64 bit of course, downloaded directly from AMD's site after installing the drivers from Boot Camp.
As for installing Windows I used an original (not burned) installation media (Disk is in a pristine condition). And yes, Windows is fine, the problem just seems to be getting the system to boot up Windows with that second monitor. However if the "problem monitor" is disconnected the system boots fine 100% of the time and connecting it later after booting the system will still operate properly.
For the sake of arguement I swapped monitor cables and connected the "second" monitor to the mini displayport adapter to verify that it wasn't a cabling issue and I'm still yielding the same issues.
As for GPU testing, I've played games (Crysis, Grand Theft Auto IV, Battlefield 3, etc.) and I've had no issues with the card or stability.
You would think that Apple would try to find a fix for this, especially considering the caliber of this machine.

  • Windows 8.1 Pro will not boot after installing iTunes 11.1.5.5

It's a little hard for me to accept that this is true, but the symptoms seem to be pointing the direction of the title of this thread.  I have an all-in-one touch-screen Gateway computer that came with windows 7 (yeah, a win7 machine that came with touch, yeesh) and I put windows 8.1 pro 64-bit on it with a clean install (actually windows 8 was the clean install and then I did the free microsoft store upgrade to 8.1).  It has 4GB of RAM and has a Pentium Dual Core cpu @ 2.2 Ghz.  It was running fine with the previous version of iTunes, but as soon as I updated to iTunes 11.1.5.5 (and there may have been other apple things that updated too (ie quicktime of course), the computer prompted me for a reboot and froze during the reboot process (before it even shut down).  Then it had trouble booting into windows.  I ran startup repair to no avail and decided to do a sytem restore.  My most recent restore point was from a few weeks back, before iTunes was even installed at all on the machine.  I went back to that point and the machine worked fine again.  Then I installed iTunes 11.1.5.5 and the same exact problem occurred - it froze while shutting down after the iTunes install and then would not boot into windows 8.  I did another system restore and have not put iTunes back on.  The system is working fine.  I'm going to try to find out if there's a way to download older versions of iTunes, so that I can install it, but the bigger issue here is: Is this a legitimate bug/incompatibility with some hardware or software or driver that I have on this computer?  I run a computer support business so I know my way around but I don't have time to troubleshoot this from scratch.  Anyone else seeing this?  Apple employees...a little help here?  Any input?

let it sit for about 30 min and still got nothing
I then did a "hard shutdown(just pressed power button till it turned off the computer)"
That may not have been long enough.  But a "hard shutdown" would definitely have been construed as a problem due to the update.
Asus apparently is a known problem case...

  • I can not use my mouse or keyboard when I am trying to install windows via boot camp

    Please can you help!
I can not use my mouse or keyboard when I am trying to install windows via boot camp

Starting a couple of days ago my mouse and keyboard stopped working suddenly.
How are they connected?   In my case they are wireless and their receiver is plugged into my USB hub.  After an update I found the OS inexplicably not recognizing my USB hub and hence any devices which were plugged into it.  My fix was to
plug the receiver into a different USB port (so I could use the mouse and keyboard; otherwise I would have had to use the OSK via Touch or pen.)  Once I had normal access into my machine again I used Device Manager to remove all USB controller and
hubs (including hidden ones) and I then shut down, disconnected all USB devices and powered back up, this time using only Touch to get going.  Once the OS had settled down I started plugging stuff back in the way that I wanted it to be recognized.
If I didn't have Touch I would have had to have left the wireless receiver plugged in both places which I assume would be OK.  I have no idea why updates have such a catastrophic effect for USB devices.

  • Hard drive detected but will not boot Windows Vista or recovery disk

    Hi,
I have a very similar issue with a HP Pavillion a6355.uk, the hard drive kept crshing windows and then it finally just kept getting pass the HP boot menu options, and then all I get is the DOS "@press ctrl+alt+del to restart".
The hard drive is detected and passes all the tests, after pressing F9, going into the F10 options. F11 does not do anything, so cannot recover windows/the system.
I have tried changing the SATA connections on the motherboard, no difference. I tried the recovery boot disk I created when it was working and it will not boot with the old or new hard drive I bought to replace it (same size and compatable).
I cannot find where to partition the new hard drive or format the c: on the old one (it had D: for the recovery, but as it won't boot, cannot access this).
I have also tried the HP website to dowload the drivers for the new one, but the page does not load up to show any drivers or Windows to download.

The next page just keeps looping or not proceeding when I put in details.
I can’t find anywhere to get hold of my copy of windows vista for this PC or get a disk to re-install on a new drive or fix the old detected drive, can someone please help!!

Just what size HD and is the drive Sata II or Sata III?

  • Lenovo IdeaTab Lynx K3011 Windows 8 Will not boot to usb/dvd

I have tried almost everything, over the course of the past few day's, to get this tablet to boot to usb/dvd drive. Secure boot has been disabled. Cannot access a boot menu on startup. When using windows 8 boot manager and selecting boot to usb cd or usb hdd, the system simply restarts. I have tried many bootable usb keys formatted in ntfs or fat32 with windows xp(32bit), windows 7(32), or windows 8(32). I have also tried booting to a DVD's on a external dvd drive with xp(32), 7(32), or 8(32bit) with no success. Both devices in all cases are recognized in the (UEFI)bios boot manager and I am able to reset the boot order. I have tried hitting the f2 or the f12 keys when booting on an external keyboard. I have tried hitting the power button and the volume up button on startup  but this does'nt work either. When I access the UEFI settings I do not have an option to enable legacy bios. The need I have is to boot to a Symantec Ghost usb key with Windows PE for imaging and deployment purposes, any help is greatly appreciated. Thank You.

I created a bootable 32bit following this thread ME400C Wipe and Clean and make sure the USB has to be 32bit and EFI bootable UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows.
The plug in your USB keyboard, mouse, Windows Setup USB Drive, change the boot order, disable Windows Boot Manager and it should detect the Windows Setup USB Drive.
**I won't know how to use an external DVD if you don't have access to create this USB drive.

  • Windows 8.1 not booting : "Boot manager failed to find OS loader"

    Hello all,
I know this question came up before, but I have being trying to fix this for many days now, without luck and I feel I need some new ideas...
    The short story:
My Windows 8.1 is not booting, and gets trapped in cycle of Boot Manager until I tell the UEFI to boot from disk or USB
I can boot up from external CD or USB Windows RE, from which I can get to prompt line
In the log file in C:\Windows\System 32\LogFiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt I read:
Boot manager failed to find OS loader
Repair Action File Repair à Failed (err code 0x4001)
Repair Action Boot Config Data Store Repair à Failed (err code 0x2)
       4. My disk is GPT partitioned, with UEFI Bios
       5. I tried the typical Bootrec commands: FixMbr, FixBoot, ScanOs, RebuildBCD but I always get the error:
    Identified Windows install:0
        6. I tried Bcdedit but I get:
the boot configuration data (BCD) store could not be opened
        7. I tried to create a new BCD store in the FAT32 partition (temporarily named "v:\") with
    bcdboot c:\Windows  /l en-gb  /s  v: /f ALL
    but I get:
Failure when attempted to copy boot files
        8. Finally, I noticed that in
      C:\Windows\System32\
I DO NOT have the file  winload.efi
    while in: ESP\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\
I DO have the file   Bootmgfw.efi
One question I have is: Is it possible to copy a "healthy" winload.efi from somewhere in my PC into C:\Windows\System32\ ?
Where (which path) could I find it?
Any other ideas? Please help !!!!
Many thanks!! This is literarily driving me crazy because I really don't want to reinstall windows....

It will not boot from disk, let me refresh, or let me reset my windows system.

Should i just go ahead and click instal windows 8, and then backup that fresh instal with my backup drive?
Or will this complicate the problem?.........

Wow, how about you guys just answer the dude's question instead of posting useless garbage. thanks for wasting everyone's time.
The only way I know of fixing this right now is unfortunately by doing a clean install. Thats not to say however that you won't run into the same problem down the road. To be honest, even tho Templeton's answer was useless, he's right. Seven is currently way more stable.
