Windows 7 on iMac 27" Late 2009, Magic Trackpad issue.

Hello,
I have successfully installed Windows 7 64 bit on my iMac 27" Late 2009 model using Boot Camp and my magic trackpad is not functioning the way it should be. The trackpad works however does not recognise secondary click. There is no option to activate this and the tap to click function is not available either. Also my magic mouse does not want to connect when in Windows mode. I downloaded all the drivers that Mac downloaded for me from Boot Camp Assistant however the trackpad is still not 100% functional. I am not expecting all the gestures to work however i would to have the secondary click and tap to click function to work.
Any suggestions? BTW i am running Lion OS X.
Regards
Abhishek

Hey Guys,
I was able to start boot manager. I had 4 options:
1. Macintosh HD
2. Recovery-10.8.2
3. Windows
4. EFI Boot
I choose option 3 (Windows). But i got the following message.
CDBOOT: Couldn't find BOOTMGR
Any idea?

  • IMac 27' (Late 2009) Installing Windows w/USB: NO BOOTABLE DEVICE

    Hi everyone!
First of all, sorry about my english. I've been reading a long time before a write this post on the forum, but... here we go.
I have an iMac 27' (Late 2009 with Mountain Lion) without Superdrive (there's an SD card stucked. I tried to pick it back but it useless). I need Windows Vista/Seven to work with some software and Parallels don't work properly. So, I managed to make some USB Windows bootable ISO (a lot of them), but after trying with bootcamp the partition on Mountain Lion there's a message on a black screen (after rebooting for the first time) that says "NO BOOTABLE DEVICE- PLEASE INSERT ANY KEY TO CONTINUE".
I tried with a few USB devices, and some .iso of windows extract from a few DVDs, and i'm getting always the same message.
When I had Snow Leopard and Lion (and SUPERDRIVE available) I was able to install Windows, but always with DVD. I didn't try it to boot Windows with a usb device. I already downgraded to Lion and try it again with no luck.
Anyone please can help? I'm really stucked at this point .

Same for me... And the funny thing is that I was trying the same bootable device with which I installed Windows 7 in a mid 2009 MacBook. Completely absurd. Please, we need some solutions for this!

  • Memory upgrade on iMac 27 late 2009

    Hello,
I have an iMac 27 late 2009 with 4GB memory 2x2. I'm thinking to upgrade on 8GB but I want to ask you before I do something. First question is if I can buy one memory 1x4 GB and install on iMac will it work good with other two memories or they have to be all the same, and second question is what type of memory you suggest yo buy?

    Is yours one of these:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP576
If so, these are the RAM specs:
    4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM; four SO-DIMM slots support up to 16GB
You have two empty slots; I've heard both that it does not matter if you only put one module in, but also that it is better to put equal size pairs in - if you have any doubt, stop by an Apple store and ask.
There have been numerous posts here that there are problems with 16 GB, so I would advise to go as high as a total of 12 GB; that would mean you add two 4 GB modules at most.
As for brands, these are usually recommended here: Crucial, Samsung, or OWC (macsales.com) - but not their cheaper brand (NuRam), only the OWC brand. iMacs are finicky with RAM, so only buy top quality from a reputable vendor with a lifetime warranty.

  • MacBook Pro 15" Late 2011 Problems with iMac 27" Late 2009 TDM

    Hi,
I just got problems with my iMac 27" Late 2009 (Mini-DisplayPort) and my MacBook Pro 15" Late 2011 (Thunderbolt).
When I try to use my iMac as external monitor for my MacBook, there are massive glitches and graphical bugs on my second screen.
I bought a MDP-to-MDP wire from Belkin which works perfect on other computers.
    I tried these things:
    - Disconnected MagSafe from MacBook + unplugged all USB devices + switched graphics to discrete.
    - Shut down all computers ... then booted MBP, iMac and triggered CMD+F2
    - SMC, PRAM reset on both devices
    The cable works, because:
17" MacBook Pro Late 2011 works perfectly on my iMac screen with my Belkin wire!
I connected my MacBook Pro 15" to a 27" Cinema Display and it works flawless.
After that I plugged it out and tested it again with my iMac screen -> suddenly it works.
Retriggering CMD+F2 or replugging breaks it again with massive bugs.
The MacBook Pro 17" is on 10.7.2, 15" is on 10.7.3, but I also tried to trigger dual screen in 10.7.0 setup with the same issue.
Maybe its a problem with the internal 6750M of my MacBook Pro 15"?
The 6770M of the 17" is working well.
    Sample Video:

All updates/firmware updates of iMac and MacBook Pro are installed.
    Any solutions?

  • Using IMAC 27 (LATE 2009 ) as primary display for MAC PRO PRO 2013

I have been a user of IMAC & Macbook but not mac PRO.
I wish to upgrade to  MAC PRO ( 2013 ). As i want to make the transition less costly i want to use my current IMAC 27in ( LATE 2009 ) as the one and only display.
First question . Is the above possible with MAC PRO ?
Second question related - When using the above option eg  MAC PRO as main system and 27in IMAC as display. Will the hard drive and on the IMAC be possible to go in to sleep mode. I would be concious about power consumption and the life expentancy of the constant use of the HARD DRIVE on the IMAC.
I would like to be able to keep the hard drive on the IMAC off or at least in sleep mode.

  • Can iMac 27 late 2009 enter TDM connected to a Mac Pro late 2013?

I'm trying to get an iMac 27 late 2009 to enter target display mode when connected to a Mac Pro late 2013.
I tried with Apple's Thunderbolt cable and pressing Command + F2 on the iMac did nothing.
So I bought a Mini DisplayPort cable, and now Command + F2 makes the iMac's screen turn black for a second and then back.
After rebooting, before logging in, if I press Command + F2 it actually works for about 2 seconds and then back to the iMac's screen. After this, if I keep trying it just flashes black.
So, my question is, has anyone managed to connect this two devices?
Should I buy another cable? Format the iMac? Any suggestions?
    Thanks for the help.
OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 on both machines.

    Thanks for your help.
I don't know what more I can add to the initial post.
The second Mini DisplayPort cable that I tried is Belkin, I don't think there are better cables for this, since Apple is not selling it anymore.
I did mentioned that if I restart the iMac, before logging in with any user, pressing command + F2 or simply connecting the cable will actually work, it shows up as a second display on the Mac Pro, I can move the mouse pointer on the iMac. But after about 2 seconds the iMac exits Target Display Mode, and after this pressing Command + F2 will only turn iMac's monitor black for about a second and not entering TDM anymore.
I even checked the firmware versions and both are up to date according to this.

  • Imac i5 late 2009 running OS X 10.8.4 and can't get FireWire connection to work

I have Imac i5 late 2009 running OS X 10.8.4 and can't get FireWire connection to work with LaCie external drive.  I have gone through older posts and tried with no luck power cable and holding down start button for 15 seconds and restoring power and also removing power cable waitng 10 minutes replugging power cable holding down alt command P, R keys until second beep is heard.  I know that LaCie drive and cable are working, they were connnected to another iMac without issues.  What options do I have left to get FireWire to work? The System Report just says
    FireWire Bus:
Maximum Speed: Up to 800 Mb/sec.
    Thanks for any help
    CS

I did not mention in original post that when initially connected to the Firewire port the LaCie drive  I can hear activity so the drive is getting power. Does this mean the Firewire port may not be physically damamged and there may be options for resetting? Are there any 3rd party software repair programs worth buying for diagnostics and repair of the FireWire port?

  • Thin vertical lines on my iMac 27"(late 2009)

    Hi,
I know there have been many issues with the iMac screens, actually I hold my purchase for months back in 2010 because of the first issues found on the 27" monitors. I bought mine that year with a 3 year Apple Care protection plan, which expired about 6 months ago(summer 2013). After that I started to notice some thin(1pixel) vertical lines but they weren't visible most of the time, until recently that they became very obvious and present all the time(see attachment). They can be easily seen on a dark grey background, which is very annoying when you do graphic/web design.
I contacted Apple Care and they say I should bring the iMac to a near Apple Store and they will tell me how much I will have to pay to get it fixed.
I just wanted to know if there is anyone out there with the same issue that had to pay to get it fixed, just to know more or less how much can that cost. I don't live close to an Apple Store and I don't have a car, which makes it hard for me to carry such a big box and If fixing this issue is too expensive(> 500 euros), I will not repair it and live with a crappy screen.
    It's an iMac 27"(late 2009), 2.8GHz Intel Core i7. With ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I have exactly the same issue with an iMac mid 2010 and its the monitor itself.
I was at an Apple Service Station today and they quickly checked the iMac. Its an electronic defect and the only way is to exchange the monitor pannel. The cost would be around 550,- €.

  • HT2844 iMac 27"(late 2009), Audio in/Optical digital audio out port, stopped recognizing my new Bose speaker system, previously working...

    Hello,
My iMac 27"(late 2009), Audio in/Optical digital audio out port, stopped recognizing my new Bose speaker system, previously working through that port. I tested the speaker system through my iPhone, and it works fine. I hooked it up to the Headphone out/Optical digital audio in port, and it works through that port also. I did a computer restart, I also checked all wiring and did a system repair on the computer. I also restarted the computer in mode where I could use the system utility, and the computer still did not correct the matter, and it reported everything as being "ok". I wented into "sound", through system preferences, and the computer does not recognize anything I plug into the Audio in/Optical digital audio out port. When I plug the speaker sysytem into the headphone out/optical digital audio out port, it does recognize the Bose speaker system as being "headphones".
Reading through a lot of forums, I hear everything from compatibility, to the port being stuck, and on and on. Since the port was working before, and just quit working one day, I wonder if there is a capacitor or fuse or some type of similar thing is blown, and causing the port to be unfunctionable. Maybe the port went bad, but before this time, I had never used it, and the computer does not move around, and I never plug in and pull wiring out unless needing to, and that being rare.
Here is a link to Costco, where I bought the system, and the exact system I have, if this is any help:  http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku= A4092931&ST=pla&dgc=ST&cid=262075&lid=4742361&acd=1230980794501410
By the way, I am running OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5). I upgraded to Mavericks about a month ago, and expeirienced a number of issues, and had to take my iMac into Apple. Talking with the tech, I decided to wait for a while more before I upgraded to Mavericks. I try and keep the computer maintained.
If any of you have any ideas regadrding wear and tear, and fix I can do, etc., besides having to take my computer into Apple? Thank you, and potentially all of you, for your time and effort in helping me with this issue. Thank you kindly.
    davE

Okay, davE, first, you have posted in the "Mac Pro" forum (not Macbook Pro), so we can't be super helpful
but we help you. First, hold down the Option key while clicking on the speaker icon at the top of your screen. This should show you all the inputs and outputs you have. you could check in "About this Mac" then "More info" to see whatever's recognized. Then, maybe, fire up Audio MIDI. your speaker system should show up there. something might have gotten set incorrectly. You can test it there.  I guess you are using the good ol' analog cable for connection, and it works on your iPhone, so the cable isn't bad.  You could try this. it 's an adapter which might solve your problem

depending on which model of Bose speaker you have, you might try doing a product reset
turn off speakers...unplug power cord from outlet...wait 1 minute..plug cord into outlet..turn on speakers..
    \\turning off automatic standby||
press and hold top of control pod for 6 seconds until you hear 2 tones that go from high to low
other than that ,I  don't know

  • IMac i7 (Late 2009) extremly slow

    Hi,
I'm using an iMac i7 (Late 2009) with 6 GB Ram and the speed is not amazing at all!
When I use e.g. Parallels (2 GB Ram used by VM) and try to watch an 1080p video with VLC at the same time, the video often stops and is not running smooth.
The Activity Monitor shows, that 80% of the CPU is idle and 1 GB Ram is still free.
Also Safari often freezes and I see the annoying umbrella for about 30 sec.
I used some benchmark tools to see how my iMac competes with other i7 iMacs, and the results are in normal range. CPU, Ram and HD seems to work.
Already tried reinstalling OSX (10.6.5) with no luck.
What could be the cause of all this? Could it be a hardware problem?
    Thanks in advance

  • Blank screen when installing Windows 7 on my Late 2009 iMac

So before I drop everything and start hitting my head agains the wall I figured I would make one more stop and ask folks on the forum.
I'm trying to install Windows 7 Pro on my "late 2009" 27" iMac. Here is a quick config.
Here are the exact steps I take:
    1. Start Boot Camp Assistant
    2. Select both options to download Windows components and install Windows 7... and make the partion (80GB) allocation to Windows partition
    3. Insert the Windows installation disc (Pro, full version)
Everything seems to be running smooth, meaning I see the windows installer and I'm able to select the partition where I want Windows to reside and here are the last few things I see...
Right after the Starting Windows the screen goes blank and that's is. If I simply restart at this point it goes back to the Starting Windows and blank screen again (no option to choose OS).
Since the wireless keyboard is not functioning at this point I learned to take out the CD from the drive by holding the mouse button on startup. From there I insert an installation disc for Snow Leopard and boot from disc by holding the "C" button on my USB keyboard. It lunches the Utilities where I'm able to select The Start Up Disk and here is where I actually see both partitions. That's how I got back to OS.
So what am I doing wrong? I though that it had to do something with the video driver but if the installer works than I should be able to go in there after it's in place and run the correct driver from the WindowsSupport folder that I downloaded earlier. I have tried this with 32-bit and 64-bit version of Windows 7 pro with the same negative result.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I called the App store to see if they can assist but the only thing they suggested was CrossOver which doesn't help me.
Does anyone have any ideas on what to do/change?
    Thank you.
    Best regards,
    Marcin

    Got it!
After posting my question I noticed the "More like this" category and the second discussion was a hit.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11290644#11290644
It was a display driver. All I needed to do was to boot from the CD again and following the directions in the post.
    Worked like a charm.

  • Black screen in Windows 8.1 on Late 2009 27" iMac

    Hi,
My Late 2009 27" iMac i7 will not allow the display to turn on under Windows 8.1. It's not just black, its as though its powered off. This is some kind of a software problem. I am certain of this because I ran Windows 8.1 just fine since its release (10/17/2013). Hoestly, I ran it for months without a problem. I think it was an upgrade install over Windows 8 and not a clean install. Anyways, last week I upgraded to an SSD and needed to re-install Win 8.1. Now the display won't turn on. It works fine when you first boot it up after the setup runs, then a windows chime sounds and the screen goes blank and never turns on again. If you enable RDP before this happens you can still access the computer. I have re-installed Windows 8.1 and also I have tried BootCamp 4.0.4033, 5.0.5033, and 5.1.5621. None of them have enabled the display. Nor has the vanilla driver from AMD/ATI. I am at a complete loss as to what to do. My only hope is there are a handful of other users with this model of iMac who also have this issue and have solved it. If I ever find the solution you can count on me writing it in detail here in this thread or linking to a thread that solves it.
    Thanks,

Summary: The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4850 and other "legacy" graphics cards are not yet supported by AMD/ATI on Windows 8.1.
If you are disatisfied with a perfectly serviceable series of video cards being dropped from support make yourself heard: http://emailcustomercare.amd.com
    ---Details---
Okay after some pretty exaustive research I have found out a few things.
First, that AMD/ATI has decided to not include several series of "legacy" video cards in their support for Windows 8.1. This support may come in the future. There are conflicting reports about wether or not this is happening.
Second, there is a small community that is devoted to unofficial modified drivers that are supposed to allow legacy cards to be used on Windows 8.1. -> http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=372799. I had no success whatsoever with these drivers, even on a clean install of Windows 8.1. I did get the drivers to install, but no games could start and Windows warned me about the drivers being unsigned frequently. So I would be hesitant to devote a lot of time to installing those drivers.
Lastly, I am pretty disapointed with AMD/ATI. Sure, the card is approaching its sixth year anniversary (~June 25, 2008) but it works just fine for most uses. It is a perfectly serviceable card for desktop uses. I just installed an SSD with the hopes of getting four more years out of this computer. I guess I will be religated to Windows7/8 on this machine till the end of its life. People considering the SSD upgrade may want to take this into consideration. I suppose its a non-issue if you are OK with using Windows 7 for four more years.
There seems to be a potential for upgrading the video card to the part used in the 2011 iMac, but for now that part costs $500 or $600, if its even stocked.
