Windows 7 on Pavilion a6500f--Clean Install Freezes

I am trying to do a clean install of Windows 7 Professional on the Pavilion a6500f.
I am installing to a newly formatted drive partition.
All goes well untill the very end when the setup program says it is completing the installation.
Then the computer freezes/locks up.  No movement on the screen, no mouse response, etc.
I am guessing it is some problem with driver for video or audio, etc, but don't know how to proceed.
Nvidia has WIN 7 drivers on their website, but how would I integrate/slipstream these into the install?
Just wanted to add: This is 64-bit version of WIN 7 Pro, final release paid for version.
I noticed another person had exact same machine and install problem using RC version back in June 2009 with no resolution.
Look here:  http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=win7Beta&message.id=138&query.id=863948#M138
Thanks for helping.

DS, here is a guide for 'Upgrading to Windows 7'.  While it says upgrading, it also discusses a custom/clean install, as well.  There are allot of instructions on how to prepare your computer for the install.  This may help you solve your problem.

I have photoshop 6 on a dead pc laptop with windows XP.  Have a pc laptop that has been upgraded from Vista 64 bit (where phootshop 6 wouldn't install) to windows 7 professional 32 bit (clean install).  Photoshop still won't install. Also having reinstallation issues with pse6 on this same pc.  Pse6 was installed and working on vista 64bit version of the OS, now won't install on rebuilt windows professional 7 32bit (keeps giving me serial number not valid errors).  I'm not trying to pirate these programs.  Just want to reinstall them.

  • Black Screen After Windows 8 64-bit Upgrade (Clean Install) on TouchSmart IQ508A (IQ500 series)

    Hi there,
Just installed Windows 8 and am getting a black screen after booting up like many others. I currently have disabled the graphics driver and this has solved the black screen issue but I can no longer use my web cam for Skype (although web cam works for W8 Camera App oddly).
To date I have tried the following:
Loading up the latest Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia website
Attempting to use the drivers for Windows 7 both in compatability mode and normally. I unzipped SP44488 to get this working
I know many others are having this problem so I really would  like someone from HP to respond and state whether a Windows 8 display driver for the Nvidia GE Force 9300M GS is being developed.
I ran the compatability wizard prior to the clean install and it came up with no issues so I am very disappointed I am having these problems.
I've found out that HP have a customised version of the above card so that explains why the Nvidia drivers dont work so I believe HP is therefore obligated to provide a driver.
If anyone else is having similar issues please respond as this will hopefully lead to more action.
    cheers
    Steve

I'm in the same boat. On my IQ804, the Nvidia GE Force 9300M GS card crashes when I use NVidia's latest Windows 8 driver and Microsoft's LIVE UPDATE drivers.  I have to resort to the Standard VGA driver in order for the pc not to crash into a black screen.
I read on another forum you can try installing a July 2012 version of the driver from NVidia and that should solve the problem.  I tried it once. Using the July 2012 version, the screen would stay on longer, but eventually it crashes into a black screen...but definitely more usable than the latest from NVidia and Microsoft.
I too have heard that HP used a customized version of the graphics card and that's why neither HP nor NVidia's drivers work.
I also tried installing the Nvidia GE Force 9300M GS drivers for Windows 7 that I downloaded from the HP website.  It didn't work either.  It actually failed to install altogether, saying my system is incompatible.
As is, the pc works fine.  But videos and games that require motion is noticably choppy.
    Any help from HP??

  • Increasing partition size for Windows 7 Ultimate in a clean install

I am running XP on a 32GB partition through bootcamp. I'm using OS 10.5.8 for my MacPro.
I wanted to do a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate (upgrade) in a larger partition than before, probably a new one.
I have about 400GB of available space for this and wanted to know if it was possible before starting out. I ran out of space with 32GB for XP and figure a good 100GB partition would be safe with all the updates etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I believe you have to go back to the original mac partition and start from there. Just like it was a new set up of boot camp.

  • Win7 Clean Install : freeze on Starting Windows

Hello Sorry for my english level, I am french.I have a problem with my new E550. I bought a SSD drive (SanDisk Ultra II), and I want to install Win7 Pro 64 bits on it (it's not the original drive of the laptop, it's a other).I disable the Secure Boot on the BIOS. The DVD boot is OK, but after the "Windows is loading files", the screen "freeze" on Windows Starting... I don't think that is an ISO problem, I tried two different ISO and the problem is the same. Can you help me please ? Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Are you trying to install in UEFI mode?  Windows 7 in UEFI mode requires CSM support.  If you have the option in BIOS, turn on CSM support.  It should be somewhere near the UEFI/legacy options.
If you prefer to install in legacy mode you can disable Load OS Optimized Defaults, the Load Setup Defaults, Exit Saving Changes.

  • Windows XP 64 bit pro clean install with RAID

    Can anyone help out???
I recently purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad W700 with the raid system (raid1) it had Vista Business pre installed but I wasn't impressed so I've cleared VB out and tried to install XP 64 pro  I have followed the guide I found on this site http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=188992
which was very informative but didnt seem to include any details on a raid installation. If I change my BIOS Serial ata (sata) to compatibility I can install win xp and get it running but no raid!! if I try to install the Intel chipset driver it reports it cannot install!! If I set the Bios Serial ATA to RAID the setup goes so far through then I get the BSOD
I seems to me I need some raid drivers but have no way of installing them during setup (I dont have the drivers anyway!!)
Sooooo...........can anyone out there point me in the right direction for a clean xp pro install with raid??  theres a couple of beers in it!!
    Lenovo thinkpad W700, Q9000 2.00GHz Quad Core 2x 160gb hdd raid1, 4gb ram, 1gb nvidia graphics FX3700m Fingerprint reader, Graphics tablet (digitiser?)
    Windows 7 Professional 64bit RAID 1

I believe you need to install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver for Windows XP, Vista (32bit) - ThinkPad. Installation instructions are on the same site. If you don't have a floppy you can streamline them onto an install disk.
Other drivers can be found here.

  • [Guide] Windows 8.1 PRO RTM clean install on Yoga 13 from a USB Stick

    Hello everyone,
I recently installed Windows 8.1 Pro RTM successfully so I thought it may be useful to share the steps here.
Disclaimer: Please proceed with caution. I'm not responsible for any gain, loss, or harm done to you, your device, or your data.
    Link to picture
    Pre-requisites:
1- Windows 8.1 RTM ISO image. (Available on the internet)
2- Windows 8 Pro license key. (Yes, It works with 8.1 also)
    3- Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool
    4- Lenovo Yoga 13 Windows 8 Drivers
5- USB Stick or HDD with at least 4GB space. (Note: All data on disk will be erased)
    Steps:
1- Important: Take a full backup of HDD.
2- Plugin the USB disk then open Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool.
3- Point to WIN8.1 ISO image path and wait for the wizard to finish.
4- After the wizard completes succefully, keep the USB stick plugged in and then restart the device in UEFI mode.

Sorry, forgot to mention that in order to boot from UEFI the flash drive must be formatted as FAT32. Windows USB and DVD tool supports only NTFS, So after creating the bootable image, copy all the files from the flash drive to the HDD then format the flash drive as FAT32 then copy the files back from the HDD to the flash drive. The flash drive will still be bootable.

  • Windows will not update after clean install

ok, I hope this isn't a common topic, I have searched everywhere for a solution. My laptop was slow, maybe infected with malware. I refreshed it and it wouldn't allow me to update and reinstall 8.1. So, I reset it. Still no updates. I got my hands on a windows 8 disk, formatted the drive and reinstalled windows. I still can't update, I have tried update troubleshooter and microsoft fix it. Neither worked, the updater searches and then says sometimes even update needs an update. So i've tried that. it happens often and it wont complete the updater update, even after troubleshooter claims it has fixed any errors. I  got one error message earlier in week which I can't rememer. I searched out all the info and fixes on it and got nowhere. I gave up on fixing update and tried all the other installers I could find. The only one I could get to work was WSUS. I downloaded all the updates and installed them, in configuration there was an error and it removed all updates. I am losing my mind, this should be simple and has been going on for two weeks. Please help!

I understand that you are unable to update to Windows 8.1.  You tried doing a refresh and reset but there was not change.
You then formatted the drive and installed Windows 8 from a Windows disk but again unable to update to Windows 8.1.
You have ran the troubleshooter and tried to update the updater to no avail.
As you did the last installation from a MIcrosoft disk, I suggest contacting MIcrosoft support for assistance or do a  HP
    recovery.

If you formatted the entire drive when you did the Windows 8 installation from the disk you will no longer have the recovery partition and will need to do the recovery from CD/DVDs or USB key.

  • Windows 7 not genuine after clean install with HP disks

    Hello,
I just installed a new HDD on my Probook4540s a few days ago after the original one died.  I do have a backup of everything on an external HDD.   Eventhough I can see my product Key with Speccy, the windows activation window pops up from time to time. • Lost Windows 7 after performing a clean install

Hi!, About a month ago I decided to become a windows insider and after downloading one of the windows 10 builds, it was far too slow. So I refreshed my pc and lost windows 7 in the process. Now, I upgraded to windows 10 pro but since I had an OEM version of windows 7 home premium(I have the product key) I need to get back to windows 7 to install upgrade to windows 10 properly and get the correct version. Would I be able to contact toshiba support to get the recovery media (out of warranty) and hopefully get it free? Or just buy it from somewhere? And where would be the cheapest place to get it? Thanks in Advance!

Restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. All the drivers and utilities are automatically installed. Windows is preactivated; so you don't need a product key.
If you don't have the recovery discs, you can obtain them from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here. It's free, but the S&H is ridiculous.
For instructions, see the section Hard Disk Drive Recovery using the Recovery media, which begins on p. 66 of the User's Guide.

I need to get back to windows 7 to install upgrade to windows 10 properly and get the correct version.
Unless you just don't care whether things work or not, you should stay away from Windows 10 for that old model. Toshiba will not support it.

I would like to reinstall Windows 7 on my X1 carbon from scratch, to have it without all the bloatware. Where can I get Win7 image/disc to do it? I tried installing Windows 7 from my friends MSDNAA Win7 disc but the key did not match (I could not activate Windows).

  • Windows 7 clean install/upgrade to 32 bit from 64bit

I've just bought a touchsmart 300-1025 with windows 7 Home Premium 64bit preinstalled.
I need to change this to 32 bit to ensure that my communication links with VPN work normally  -Cisco smart tunnel and/or VPN - my employers say that these will only work on 32 bit. I have an ultimate version of windows 7 to do a clean install of 32 bit but am worried about getting all the drivers/software back on.
Will the software on D drive be Ok for 32 bit installation, and will I be able to access all the 32 bit drivers that I need - I have already downloaded the available drivers from the HP support site for 32 bit windows 7.
Any help would be much appreciated

it might be worth asking HP support if there is a 32bit OS version recovery disk for your Touchsmart PC, if there is then you could order that disk and recover the 32bit version of the OS instead...

  • Restore shipped applications after Windows 8 clean install

I am considering upgrading to Windows 8 by doing a clean install but would like to use some of the pre-installed applications, PowerGo, PowerDVD10 and PowerCinema that came with the A720.
Anyone had any success in reinstalling / recovering any of the applications that shipped with the Windows 7 version of the A720?
I am intending to call Lenovo Support to ask for a backup disk for these applications, has this worked for anyone else?
    Thanks

Reading the Windows 8 upgrade instructions they recommend that you conduct a clean install
"Note: Some models can only support the clean install upgrade method. For IdeaCentre models, Lenovo suggests performing a clean install to upgrade to Windows® 8."

  • How to do a clean install of windows 10 on a different drive?

Hi all. Today I decided to make the switch to windows 10. I want to do a clean install, however, because I recently got an SSD and want to install the OS on that instead of on my hard drive. First off, do I even need my product key to do a clean install onto a new drive? I made a clone of my C: dirve just in case something goes wrong, just FYI. My SSD is 100% empty and has 110GB available on it but my main hard drive has about 400GB of stuff on it, so cloning my drive to the SSD is out of the picture.  So basically what I want to know is this: 1. Do I need to have my windows key to do a clean install of windows 10 from windows 8.1 onto a different drive.2. If not, how do I do a clean install onto a new drive3. If I need it, how do I get it? Thanks all

The easiest solution would be to back up the data you wish to keep on an external hard drive then delete that data and programs from the old hard drive so that only the OS remains.  From there use migration software from your SSD manufacturer to clone the old drive to the new SSD using a USB to SATA cable. The Windows key is embedded in the BIOS and will be recognized by the computer on any installs.  It would be advisable to retrieve your key, just in case, using Belarc Advisor which gives you all sorts of info about your computer.  Do this before doing anything.http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html  Swap your drive and be sure it is operational.  Now you may perform a clean install of the Windows 10 upgrade using a bootable ISO.  See step 5 or 6 from this tutorial:http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2267-windows-10-upgrade-installation.html#step3
