Windows 7 or 8 shows the wireless client connected to the access point but the wireless icon displays "No connection to the internet

I have seen the same issue working with a different vendors wireless solution. When I sniffed the air with OmniPeek and the network the ap was on with WireShark, I see the arp request for the gateway go to the router, the reply from
the gateway router is sent out to the suspect machine in the air, the PC ack's the packet but never populates the arp cache. I have looked at both arp responses in a working vs failing scenario, both packets are the same.
The only way I have been able to resolve it was to disable IP Helper (start up too) from Services, reboot the machine. I was seeing 3 to 4 drops per day but since disabling this Service the machines I have been testing with have not seen the
issue again.
IP Helper:
Provides tunnel connectivity using IPv6 transition technologies (6to4, ISATAP, Port Proxy, and Teredo), and IP-HTTPS. If this service is stopped, the computer will not have the enhanced connectivity benefits that these technologies offer.
Machines Tested and Fixed:
Lenovo E540
Lenovo W540
Acer Aspire One
Dell Latitude E6420
The ip helper service change was made on 40 laptops, a dozen of which would fail in about an hour. So far 0 out of the 40 has seen the issue since making the change and rebooting (rebooting is key after the disable) the laptops. It's
been about 5 days.
Any reason why disabling this Service fixes the issue? With it on I can replicate the issue pretty quickly on a few different machine types so it does not seem to be driver or wireless nic vendor specific. I've checked through the
event viewer logs but nothing seems to be triggered during the time of the issue. Using the troubleshooter or disconnecting from the wireless service will fix the issue for only a short time.

Hi.  I'm trying to set-up the wireless access times in my Airport Utility.  I need to enter the "Description" and the "MAC Address" of each wireless client before I assign access times. What are these?  Thanks.

Let's say that an iPhone is one of the wireless clients that you want to allow access to the network.
The Description of this device is anything that you want to specify for easy identification purposes. For example, the Description might be something like......
    Rex's iPhone
The MAC Address, also known as a Wi-Fi Address is  a unique indentifiction number that is assigned to every device. The number will always follow this form:
xx : xx : xx : xx : xx : xx, where "x" could be a number or letter.
To find the MAC Address or Wi-Fi Address of an iPhone or iPad.....
    On the Home screen.....
    Tap Settings
    Tap General
    Tap About
Wi-Fi Address is the item that you want
If you have a Mac computer......you can find the MAC Address or Wi-Fi Address as follows:
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Network
Click on Wi-Fi on the left
Click Advanced at the lower right
The Wi-Fi Address for the Mac is located at the bottom of the window
Other wireless devices usually have the MAC Address or Wi-Fi Address on the label on the back or bottom of the device

  • LinkSys Wireless Card connects to "Access Point" but no internet connection

I have 2 LinkSys wireless cards. one is 802.11g, the other b. The signal for the Airport Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi Wireless Base Station is very strong, but when I try to connect, it says "You are connected to the access point, but the Internet cannot be found". No internet access, and I can't ping anything (Ping request could not find host...). And of course the printer hooked to the AirPort is also not recognized. My iMac and Macbook both have no problems connecting to the network. There is no problem with ethernet connection to the Airport. Is it possible to have a compatibility problem between the Linksys and Airport hardware? I thought as long as they were were compatible 802.11, they would work together. The cards had no problem with my old DLink router or other hotspots in the city. Is there a set-up I missed for setting up the PC-based cards with the AirPort?

    Is your wireless network secured?
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!

  • TS1538 Hi, I have the problem which iTunes cannot detect my iPhone 4s. I tried the steps you have provided in your troubleshooting, but it won't work for me because the Apple Mobile Devilce is perfectly installed on my windows.

Hi, I have the problem which iTunes cannot detect my iPhone 4s. I tried the steps you have provided in your troubleshooting, but it won't work for me because the Apple Mobile Devilce is perfectly installed on my windows. However, the driver "Microsoft teredo Tunneling adapter" has a yellow exclamation mark, which i believe means it's not installed correctly or something is wrong with it. This driver is under the Network Adapters (Please see picture below).
This is what happens when I connect my iPhone 4s to my laptop (Windows 7 Starter 32-bit)
    1. The phone charges it's battery
    2. I can open it in My Computer and import/export media files.
    In iTunes
    3. It start to sync until step 3 then stops.
    4. The iPhone option with an arrow appears beside the iTunes Store, but when the arrow is clicked it disappears.
I hope you can provide me a solution for this problem.
    Thanks,
    Ralph

    Hi ralphagir,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
For your iTunes issue with it not recognizing your iPhone, I would go ahead and suggest deleting iTunes and all of its components from your Windows computer and installing fresh.

  • The connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken.

At random points throughout my laptop usage, I randomly disconnect from the internet and receive these 2 messages:
    1. The connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken.
    2. The default gateway is not available.
It fixes the issue for a short period of time, but constantly happens. This is really starting to annoy me. I have no problems on any other internet, and other people i live with are connected with no issues to the internet. I have tried a number of solutions
online that has "worked" for others to no success such as resetting the router, fooling around with command prompt, and changing the performance settings to not drop internet when low on power. Does anyone have a solution for my technical problems?
I am running Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo ideapad that is less than a year old. I will be honest I am not a very knowledgeable person when it comes to computers, so please use simplified explanations.

If FaceTime is not hidden by Restrictions (Settings>General<Restrictions) you got duped. iPods officially sold in Dubai and some other countries that prohibit FT do not have FT and there is not way to get FT on those iPods.

YOu have purchased or been sold an upgrade from Acrobat 9 or 10. You simply need to prove you own that old version using its serial number. be sure to keep both serials forever.

  • Asking to enter a device password in the access point but I don't have an access point

I installed the Intel Proseet Wireless Client and upon connection to my Linksys router a wizard comes up asking me to "enter the device password to my access point or external registrar".  It displays an 8 digit number in the device password field.  My only option at that point is to go "back", "next" or "cancel".  If I click "next" it eventually fails to connect to my wireless router.  I do not have an access point installed.  Only the router and cable modem.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If its asking you for the Access Point password when you are trying to connect to your Wireless Network, It means you need to input the Wireless Security Key which you have setup on your Router.
When you are trying to connect to your Wireless Network and it ask you for the 8 digit password, you need to Flip your router upside down and below you will find a 8 digit pin number (0000-0000) it will be in these format. Just input the 8digit pin without (-) and click on Next and it will connect you to your wireless network. Once successfully connected to your Network wirelessly you should be able to go online Wirelessly from your Computer.

  • Manually add Access Point to 2504 Wireless Controller

We have a 2504 Wireless Controller and it works great!
We currently have 6 Access Points (Aironet 1252) connected.
We just added the sixth one a few weeks ago and with a properly configured and fully functioning Wireless Controller, it was super easy.
Now, I have been assigned to add another Access Point, but at a remote site.
The plan is to have up to three or more APs at this remote location and we want them to talk back to the Wireless Controller.
We have plenty of licences on our current Wireless Controller.
Do do not want to spend the funds for another Wireless Controller and more licenses.
    1. How does one manually add a Aironet 1252 to the 2504 Wireless Controller
    2. If the AP is on a different subnet than the Wireless Controller, how does one get it registered?
    3. The best for last: Can a Aironet 1252 talk to a 2504 Wireless Controller over a WAN link?
    If so, how?
    Thank you!

  • Third Party Signal Repeaters/Wireless Extenders for Boosting Cisco Access Points Indoors

We are have some buildings that have access points (Cisco 2602e with 6dBi Terrawave omni antennas) in the hallways, in which the clients residing in rooms aren't receiving a strong enough signal to connect at suitable rates. The main reason for this is the large thick doors utilized for the client rooms reducing the strength of the signal, and we weren't authorized to place APs inside the rooms. Nor are we able to modify the structure of the building, such as changing the doors. We can't ask or expect the clients to keep their doors open to rcv a stronger signal. I've tweaked the Tx power for the APs, and lowered the mandatory rates on the WLC for this location under the RF profile created for it, but this isn't resolving the issue with the weak signal.
One band aid solution idea was to place signal repeaters (low profile) inside each room, behind the wall/door area facing the hallway. I've seen a few third party products online, but they seem to only come in support of the 2.4GHz band. If this is a feasible solution, then it looks like we wouldn't be able to support clients on the 5GHz band on our AP, as clients would most likely connect to the 2.4 GHz band due to a stronger signal, limiting our load balancing on the AP. Anyone have experience with using signal repeaters that work properly with Cisco APs.
Not the ideal situation, but have the hands strapped on what we can do.

If you've got a WLC, then disable TPC and crank up the power to full.

    Hi,
It could be some sort of "flagging" issue where either the AIM Servers have gone out of sync and you are getting two lots of info  (There are about three or four servers involved with getting data to your Buddy list)
I can also see the possibility where you have a Contact in your Address Book who has two Screen Names.
You have one in one group and in another they appear to be Off Line.  However iChat will still Link them and Show their Capabilities when you Right Click.
One way of checking this is to double click them to open a Text Chat Window.
At the top is the Recipients Bar  (See View Menu when  Text Chat is Open).
This gives you the option to chose a different Buddy Name if the contact has two  (It offers To and From options if you both have Multiple Accounts).
Pic of an Old Chat to someone with Multiple "Names"
They have an @Mac.com name and  Jabber ID  (As it is an Old Chat the Jabber one is Off Line and their @mac.com name is currently "Away"
You can see I have a Google and three AIM Logins I could use to Speak to them.

To determine the required height of an antenna tower over a hypothetically flat, spherical Earth, it's necessary to calculate the effect of the Earth's curvature, and then add a distance equal to 60% of the radius of the First Fresnel Zone. The table below shows the result of these calculations. Values have been rounded up to the nearest foot.
Line of Sight Distance Between Antenna Towers
Height of Tower to Avoid Flat Earth Curvature
Tower Height Required Over Tallest Obstacle In Line-of-Sight to Provide

It can be seen in the table above that a wireless link between two points separated by 26 miles would require an antenna tower with a minimum height of 103 feet for an 802.11b/g radio and 95 feet for an 802.11a radio. In practice the heights would typically be 20 feet higher, or more. This is because the Earth is not smooth and flat and the tower height must be raised to compensate for buildings, trees, hills, or other obstacles. For example, in a suburban setting, with houses and small offices, it may be necessary to add 20 to 40 feet to the tower height to get over the homes, offices, and trees that would be in the line-of-sight between the two towers.

  • Locating failed wireless login attempts and which access point they're hitting

We have a cisco 5508 WLC with about 190 access points.  They use Cisco Secure ACS to authenticate Microsoft Active Directory logins.  We sometimes get non-normal accounts attempting to login to our wireless but are unable to figure out which access point they're hitting.
When I look at the failed attempts in our Cisco Secure ACS 5.5 Radius Authentications report, I don't see an IP address, just the MAC address of the failing device.  Is their a way to configure either the WLC or the ACS box to report either the IP address or MAC address of the access point they're connecting to?

Is this something I need to set the ACS or WLC to send?  When I go to Other attributes in the "Authentications - RADIUS - Today" report, this is all I'm currently seeing.

    ACSVersion=acs-5.5.0.46-B.723
    ConfigVersionId=3
