Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 HPC on a blade server for a 32-bit app

Hi,
My Windows 32-bit simulation program runs on Windows 7 - 64 on an ordinary desktop PC
I am thinking of installing Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 HPC Edition on a blade server to hopefully speed up the simulation.
I wonder if there would be a significant change in the simulation time with either OS.
Looking forward to your advice
Regards,
Jeremy

You posted your inquiry to a hardware forum.
Which blade server do you own?
Do you have a question on any specific hardware component in that system?
Perhaps we could point you to that system's documentation
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/documentation/index.html
if you told us which hardware you own.
Frankly, you need to go find a Microsoft-centric forum and ask your question over there.

  • Printing Problem with Epson LX-300+ii and LX-310 in Windows Server 2012 R2 64-bit

    I recently installed Windows Server 2012 R2 64-Bit.
We have Printer Epson LX-300+ii and LX-310 (dot-matrix) that we share among users. Each user access the Server using Remote Desktop. From previous experience with Windows Server 2008, I knew that these printers will be problematic, especially regarding
    the Easy Print driver.
And I was right, using the Easy Print driver, I got the following result:
And so, I did manual mapping & disable the "Use Remote Desktop Easy Print printer driver first". Haha, what a surprise, I got the following result:
And so I uninstalled the printer driver, and install it again, thinking that I might chose a wrong driver, but.... same result. I know for sure that I chose the correct driver.
Next, I tried connecting the printer DIRECTLY to the server. Log-in to the Server directly,
not using Remote Desktop. And tried printing again, haha... really... what a surprise... I got the same problem here !!!
So now I know the problem is not the Easy Print driver, not mapping or registry problem either. It's the print driver. This is SUPER FRUSTRATING, I tried the same driver from the same CD in Windows 8.1 64-Bit with no problem. I tried it too in Windows 7
32-Bit with no-problem either. But somehow, this driver is problematic in Windows Server 2012 R2.
Any help? Anybody else bump into this same problem ? I'm close to giving up, been spending too much time figuring out this damn thing.
    Andy

    Hi Bulent Sahin,
Thank you for your reply, I tried IBM Graphics driver, but the result is equally as bad. But your answer inspire me to try different drivers. And so, the closest & best driver that I could use now is EPSON ESC/P 9pin V4 Class Driver
It's not as good as I would expect, but at least now, it's acceptable & readable. I can't believe that I'm the only one who have this problem
    Thank you Mr. Sahin

  • Ia there a good alternative to Microsoft windows server for enterprise?

Hi Guys, I work at a small (22 FTE's) public(not-for-profit) art galley. We are currently a mixed pc/mac office with various departments, all with different needs. Communications/Design are Mac. 2/3rds of the Curatorial is Mac, 1/3rd PC. Public Programs is mostly Mac with one PC. The accounting, giftshop, and Databases are all PC. The giftshop and accounting use ACCPAC. The collections (artwork collection that is) department uses FileMaker Pro backend, with a frontend called "Virtual Collections". We very much dislike Virtual Collections BTW. Our other database, which handles membership, and financial donation tracking, is @EASE. Because we are not-for-profit our overall budget for IT is relatively small, and the system is the way it is because of years of neglect, and stop-gap purchases. We use a Microsoft Server with Exchange. We are in the process of building a new gallery, and with it the ability to start fresh on a number of levels. One of which is our Server. Personally I'd like to see us move away from the Microsoft server ecosystem. It is cumbersome, requiring lots of IT support (which we contract out by the way, and costs us a tidy little sum yearly on top of MS Server licensing etc.) Our Management team is considering going to an all PC environment with the (I feel mistaken) attitude that "if all computers are the same flavour, the whole system will run more smoothly and thus be less expensive to manage". As on of the Mac users within this system, who knows a little about, but is no expert in, computers and networks in general, I'd like to be able to open a dialogue with management at this crucial juncture on alternatives to the system we now use.  I had run across a website some time ago that outlined the "real cost of owning and operating Microsoft Servers" but can not seem to locate it anymore. It basically broke down all costs of running a Microsoft environment, and concluded that, over time, it is not very cost efficient, especially for small enterprise. Has anybody run across any really good server alternatives to Microsoft Exchange, and Microsoft Windows Server (I think ours is 2008)? We are a relatively small city, and the IT/Networking companies here all seem to push Microsoft as a be-all-end-all. I'm not so sure. I'd like to present viable alternatives with sound arguments to back them up. Can you guys help? Or, an you point me toward someone who can? Thanks guys, keep up the good work, Tmamer

Have you ever got this resolved?
I noticed your VIP and Public IP are not on the same subnet, i thought they had to be?
like both 10.x.x.x and subnet 255.0.0.0 or something like that?
    Could this be your problem?
I am trying to setup a two node cluster Oracle Rac 10g on IBM Blade Center H with HS21 XM blades.
My problem is trying to setup HA and not have a single point of failure and in order to do this, it almost seems as if i need 4 network interfaces in the HS21 blade so i can team 2 together.
Did you guys purchase any addition expansion cards for these servers for that reason?
My understanding is that each HS21 have by default 2 nics, and they each go to one of the two internal cisco switches (within the entire bladecenter).
So if for instance we have one of the cisco switch die, like the one that has the public interface plugged into it, then we could not longer access the rac and that would be a single point of failure. So unless we can have 4 interfaces on the blade, and have them 2 teamed with each nic going to one of the cisco internal switches. So if any one cisco switch die's it just uses the other one.
    Any thoughts, suggestions?

  • Deploying Windows Server for a class Project

I have downloaded Windows Server 2008 with no difficulty, however when I go to install it I run into issues.  It loads into either one of two locations, 'C' Drive, disc 0 which it says is not compatible, GTP format or Disc 4 on my external HD.  It
will not load from this second location because it says program is not bootable from a USB port.  Is there a work-a-round?

  • Windows server for home user

    hi
i have windows 7 on my desktop and a home network included cellphones, laptops and TV. i want to manage my network with active directory. i'm going to install windows server on my PC and my questions is:
does the windows server at home is good?
of course i'm a .NET programmer and i think programming in windows server better than in windows 7, am i right?
    regards

    Hi,
Most of PC level computer not certificated by Windows, so it can’t supported by Microsoft. But personal experience is you can run the server system on it, you can try to install
the Server 2012r2 then install all the role in the Hyper-V guest vm, it will give you more flexible.
And consider there often have more heterogenous operating systems in the home device, you can consider setup the Windows System Center Configuration Manager it have the heterogenous
    system manage ability.
    The related information:
    Download Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 R2

  • Apache or Windows server for HTTP streaming

Does is matter what HTTP server I use?
In the process of upgrading from FMS 3.0 on Windows using IIS 5 to FMS 4.0. Will dynamic HTTP Streaming work from a Windows server?

    Hi,
Thanks for your interest in HDS.
HTTP Dynamic Streaming only works with Apache web server. The basic Apache web server is already bundled along with FMS from the 4.0 versions where the HTTP Dynamic streaming modules are loaded by default. Alternatively, any external apache installation also can be used, by copying the required module files and changing the configuration apache files to enable them..

  • SetDpmServer.exe (4.1.3465.0) on Windows Server 2012R2 (Azure VM) This app can't run on your PC: Access denied

    Hi,
I've installed on a Windows Server 2012 R2 (Azure VM) the DPM agent 4.1.3465.0. This VM is not a domain member of my DPM 2012 SP1. So I ran the command
SetDpmServer.exe -dpmServerName dpm.domain.com -isNonDomainServer -userName dpm -productionServerDnsSuffix
    domain.com
Although I'm running the command prompt as Administrator I receive:
This app can't run on your PC
And in the command prompt I see: Access denied
    How can I tackle this?
    Thanks,
    John
    John

    Hi John,
Here are 2 things I would like to confirm.
    1. Please confirm if Protection Agents is installed on target computer before running the command line.
In following article it provides the command line which you are using now. However it mentioned to install Protection Agents manually on target server first:
Installing Protection Agents on Computers in a Workgroup or Untrusted Domain
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff399479.aspx
And please noticed the 2 community additions:
    1.  make double-click on DPMAgentInstaller_x64.exe without specify DPM server name
    2. follow the examples in this article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff634193.aspx
1). Enable NETBIOS over TCP/IP on BOTH DPM Server and proposed managed machine's WINS tab of NIC card properties sheet Local area connection status -----> Properties -----> Internet Protocol Version 4 -------> Properties ----> Advanced ----->
WINS tab. Also assumes disable Windows Firewall OR create needed port openings.
2). When using SetDpmServer.exe command also CRITICAL to use ONLY NETBIOS name of DPM Server and do NOT include [-productionServerDnsSuffix <DnsSuffix>] end command at username.

  • Msi K9N2 Platinum SLI and Windows Server 2003 r2 32 bit edition

Does anyone know or have tried to get this board to work on server 2003 32 bit edition. I seem to get past the raid part but the realtek 8211bl and audio are giving me fits. Any links to good drivers would be appreciated.
    Spec of system:
    Amd 9950 Quad
    4 gig memory
    Msi K9N2 Platinum SLI
    2 500 gig sata

Ok overall solution this board works awesome with Windows Server 2003 Enterprise R2 with Sp 2.
Here are a few tricks for the Co processor controller, Sm Bus, Audio and finally the networking controller.
When you finally get windows loaded. Make sure you put Service Pack 2 or 3 on before u install drivers.
The raid drivers are simple for the 32 bit version use the xp ones and load both raid drivers during setup. Requires 2 floppys or Slipstream disk.
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=driverfile&dno=7067&i=2
Once you get windows loaded and Sp 2 or better on. Stick in your windows vista driver disk in. Once there do not install anything.
Goto device manager and update drivers on all that are with the yellow ? excpet the networking drivers and just do an automatic search and boom your done. It will also ask you if you want to enable your audio at this time. Do so but do not reboot untill u finish installing all drivers but networking. Than reboot pc
Last part is for networking card. We need you to be in safe mode for this. So once u install all drivers and start reboot hit F8 and goto safe mode. Once in safe mode take out vista driver disk and put in xp driver disk. Goto device manager and update driver on network controller and let it do an automatic search and it will installl it. It will say it needs to be rebooted to work. Go ahead and reboot and your networking card will work.
Probably simpliar solution. But just wanted to give my help.

  • How do I set access to the same network share on a Windows server for multiple users on an iMac (school set-up) in Lion 10.7.3?

We've got them authenticating/binding with AD (after hours of troubleshooting to get working), and their Home drive on the Windows 2003 server loads in the dock, but they also want to be able to load the same network shares on the server e.g. "Students$" for every student that logs onto the iMac.  I realise without Lion server we can't control it by group, but if we could at least set it up consistently for the students that would be a great start.
    Thanks.

When you install you get the opportunity to install it for "All Users".
It sounds like you have a demo version on your Mac however, you need to delete it:

  • Windows Server 2012 and win 8 app on terminal server

On a windows 2012 server, is it possible to install a windows 8 app that can be accessed (via terminal services/remote desktop) by client computers running prior version of Windows, such as 7, Vista and maybe XP? (Obviously without the touch capability).
In other words, can a  windows 8 app be accessed via terminal server by other versions of Windows or it must be only Windows 8?
Also, I read that the new RDC can also be downloaded from the Windows Store to a tablet, but what tablet? "Surface" , iPad, Android?
    Thanks so much
    CBJunior

    Hi,
Windows app store is only available on the windows 8 platform. So it is not possible to install a windows 8 app that can be accessed (via terminal services/remote desktop) by client computers running prior version of Windows, such as 7, Vista
    and maybe XP.
Also, I read that the new RDC can also be downloaded from the Windows Store to a tablet, but what tablet? "Surface" , iPad, Android?
It is available in the windows app store on Surface which is installed with windows 8 RT.

  • InDesignServer Service not starting on Windows Server 2003 (32bit & 64 bit)

Note: this issue is different from this thread on a similar issue.
This problem has plagued me for weeks and I finally give up. InDesign Server installs successfully and the InDesignServerService starts, but the server does not run. I can only run the server from the command line. I've followed these installation instructions but run into the following problems:
    1. installing by the command line: InDesignServerService /install fails and produces the following error log:
    Installing service InDesignServerService...
Creating EventLog source InDesignServerService in log Application...
    Rolling back assembly 'E:\Program Files\Adobe InDesign CS4 Server\InDesignServerService.exe'.
    Affected parameters are:
       logtoconsole =
       assemblypath = E:\Program Files\Adobe InDesign CS4 Server\InDesignServerService.exe
       logfile = E:\Program Files\Adobe InDesign CS4 Server\InDesignServerService.InstallLog
Restoring event log to previous state for source InDesignServerService.
    2. I cannot install or load the snap-in to MMC. When I try to install regsvr32 InDesignServerMMC.dll it cannot be found (as it's not in the InDesign Server directory). However InDesignServerMMC64.dll is in there and I was able to load the snap-in using regsvr32 InDesignServerMMC.dll, but the server still only runs when being started from the command line.
As I mentioned, InDesign Server runs fine when I have an active command line window open and run InDesignServer, but the moment I close the command line window, the server shuts down. Any ideas?

Well, when you run it using command line if you close the command line, of course that servers going to shutdown. So, if you wanna run without any extra window opened, you have to start your service. Go to the windows service window (administrative tools) and start the service (it's installed automatically).
Is your O.S. 32 or 64 bits? If it's 32 you install the wrong application, you have to install the compatible version with your O.S.
If you installed correctly, you can try up the service using the follow command in you prompt.
net start InDesignServerService (in this case you can close window when successefull menssages appear)

  • Memory system cache on windows server 2003 standard 64-bit is too hign

    Hi,
I have an issue with one of the server - OS is windows 2003 standard 64 bit. Total memory installed on the server is 16GB. When I go to task manager>performance tab, Total physical memory is 16 GB, available memory is around 500 MB almost all the time,
System cache is greater than 13.5GB. When I take a look at all the processes that are running, and if I sum those memory usage it will be around 2 GB. So all the memory is consumed by system cache. Checked the perfmon > memory> system cache resident
bytes and it is showing greater than 13.5 GB. I have gone through some articles that tells me to use RAMMAP to find which is using more system cache. But RAMMAP is not designed to run with windows 2003 version. Please can you help with a way/tool to find what
is using system cache in windows 2003 server
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    RJ

It is supposed to do this. Windows can be very aggressive in caching data and code. This data is released as soon as the system needs memory for something else, but when it is unused, the system uses it to cache all sorts of stuff. It utilizes the memory
which would otherwise be unused. Leaving it unused would basically be a waste.
So in other words, nothing is wrong. It is windows which decides to try and be more efficient. As soon as a request for more memory comes in, it just drops whatever is needed from the cache immediately.
This is one of the reasons that in later versions, the memory is reported differently in task manager, because people kept trying to stop the system from caching because they wanted to see more 'free' memory.
