Windows 7 PC's doesn't show up automatically in Finder

Windows 7 PC's doesn't show up in Finder
I know there are probably a lot of threads about this already but the ones I have read haven't helped me with my problem yet.
The problem I am facing is that my Windows 7 PC's doesn't show up automatically in Finder.
What works:
1. I can see all of the computers (Mac and Windows) on the network on my Windows machines, if I look under Network in Windows.
2. I can see my Mac computers in Finder under Shared
3. I can CMD+K connect to all of the computers on the network using SMB, both with entering the name of the computer or the IP
4. I can ping all of the IP's on the network
What doesn't work:
1. Windows 7 machines doesn't show up automatically in Finder
2. I can't ping hostnames in Network Utility, can only ping IP's - it says cannot resolve hostname
What I have tried:
1. Turned on SMB sharing on OSX
2. Edited /private/etc/hosts to include Windows PC's
3. Turned off all firewalls on Windows, OSX and Router
4. Installed Bonjour on Windows machines
5. A bunch of other things...
Theories:
1. The best theory I can come up with is that OSX is having trouble with NETBIOS and that's why the Windows computers aren't showing up in OSX but I can still see the OSX computers in Windows 7. And the reason why I can see the other Macs in OSX is that they use something other than NETBIOS to broadcast their existence on the network.
2. The Gods are against me...
It should be said that I had it work for a very short while, but then i changed something and couldn't reverse it.
I hope someone can help me find the little thing I am missing to get this thing to work.

Please do not post more than about 50 lines of console logs or output from an Application crash at a time. No one can make it through those.
If you had a kernel panic, those are Full of good information and should be posted in their entirety. They are stored, and can be read back and posted using this article:

• Windows Server 2008 doesn't show install date

Windows Server 2008 doesn't show install date for applications and update.

It only shows "Unspecified", at the very top.<img alt="" src="http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/getfile/286394"

In Programs and Features, you can have more options by right click on the tabbed window showing Name, Publisher and Installed on. May be you can check that once otherwise try to reinstall the features using Turn Windows features on /off.

Hello b0nvivant,
Thank you for providing so much information about the iPod issue you are experiencing. I found an article with steps to take when your iPod is recognized in Windows Explorer but not in iTunes:

• New windows 8 pc doesn't show old itunes library. How can i transfer my songs from IPod Nano 2nd Gen to computer

My new Windows 8 PC doesn't show my old Itunes library. How can I transfer my songs from IPod 2nd Gen to new PC?

Right click on your device in the device list and choose "transfer purchses" to copy all music bought in iTunes to your new iTunes library.
For all other media you'll have to use 3rd party software, examples are mentioned in this thread:

• Task manager on windows server 2008 doesn't show the memory from newly installed 2nd CPU

Hi,
We have a dual processor dell power edge t410 running windows server 2008 (64-bit), standard edition. I have recently added a 2nd xeon x5560 quad-core processor (first one is also x5560 with 32GB (4x8) memory) and 16GB ram (4x4). Seems like the new CPU is
recognized in BIOS, Dell's server admin app and task manager shows 16 vertical boxes (hyper threading is on both cpus) under Performance->CPU Usage History and these boxes show processor load spread relatively evenly across all threads. On the other hand
the additional memory for this CPU is visible in the BIOS, Dell server admin but not in the task manager, which still shows the 32gb under performance->physical memory. Rammap also shows only 32GB.. Currently running proprietary processes that along with
the metafile and windows own ring up nearly 30GB, which in turn causes system latency for GUI and apps, as if the additional 16GB are not there...
So the questions are these:
1) does anybody know why the added memory doesn't show up in the task manager / rammap?
2) if the new memory doesn't show up, does this mean that Windows does not use it (which should be impossible if the CPU is utilized, unless I am wrong about windows using the cpu..)?
Thank you,
- Kiril

Thanks for the reply Ravikumar,
Unfortunately this solution is inapplicable to my version of the OS as it is 64-bit and not 32-bit. Do you have any other ideas?
Best,
- Kiril
Yes, PAE((Physical Address Extension) is supported only on 32-bit versions of the
Windows, operating system 64-bit versions of Windows do not support PAE. For information about device driver and system requirements for 64-bit versions of Windows, see
64-bit System Design. The Address Windowing Extension (AWE) API is supported on 32-bit systems. It is also supported on x64 systems for both native and Wow64 applications.
Useful link for Address Windowing Extensions is:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa366527(v=vs.85).aspx
If the above info does not help you, please contact dell as suggested by

• Windows insallation programm doesn't show my Partition

Hey everyone,
i want to install windows xp professional (version 2002) on my MacBook pro 13". I made a partition with 44 gb with bootcamp and clicked on "start installation". After the restart, the windows installation programm starts. I follow the instructions until the question "on which partition should windows be installed?" So here is the problem: there is only one partition with 131gb (my MB got 250gb). it doesn't show the partition i created with bootcamp. The finder on OS X shows my macintosh HD and the Bootcamt partition.
I hope someone can tell me, what i'm doing wrong.

Hi,
such behavior usually indicates that your XP is not at SP2 (Service Pack 2) level but an older one.
Look for a file in the root directory of the CD named "winip51.sp2"
If not there then it's not SP2 level.
You can make yourself a SP2 or even Sp3 level XP disc by following these instructions http://www.winsupersite.com/article/product-review/slipstreaming-windows-xp-with -service-pack-3-sp3
But you have to do it on a Windows PC.
Regards
Stefan

• {Solved} Windows 8.1 Doesn't show users when windows loads, only shows options for accessibility and shutdown/restart

I just recently come into a problem on a dell all-in-one, where the computer has been updated to windows 8.1 and doesn't show users, only a blue screen with the power options and accessibility options and here is how I fixed it.
Note: you will lose your desktop apps
1. Turn on computer and let load to the blue screen with the options
2. While holding down shift click on the power button and then click restart (while still holding shift)
3. Hold shift until the advanced recovery options comes up
4. click on Troubleshoot>Refresh your PC
5.Enter password for user account
6. Let it do its magic

Hi,
Thanks for your sharing. And it will benifit others who encounter the similar issue as yours.
This issue can be caused by corrupted winlogon components.
You are right to refresh to repair the system.

• Lion doesn't show network disk in finder!

Hi guys, sometimes (mostly) Mac os X Lion doesn't show network disk (drive) in finder!!
System is:
MAC OS X LION 10.7.2
imac 27 inch i5
8 GB Memory
Thanks in advance.

Hi Carolyn... Thanks for the tip but I forgot to say that I'm expert user
I mean... I checked already and I and problem continue.
I solved the problem in this way.
Finder > Go > Connect Server > Network disk
But normally I have to see my disk under devices are in the finder.

• Finder window in internet doesn't show external hard drive. But it's connected and shows up in normal finder window.

Mac OX X 10.6.8. My mac works great with my external hard drive (my passport). When I go to attach a file to facebook, email, or upload anything directly from my external, the finder window that pops up no longer shows my external as being connected. But when I go to finder on the macbook, it shows that my external is there and I can access files no problem. This JUST started happening. What's wrong?

The hard drive won't show up in finder or disk utility, however i can see it in airport utility.
You would not expect it to show up in disk utility .. it does not work on network drives.
Finder may or may not be able to see it.
If the airport utility is showing the drive you have some possibility.
Did you GUID partition the drive .. or is it still MBR.. ie if it was originally formatted for PC it will be MBR and won't work.. so put it on the Mac again and change the GUID partition.. I would also set a smaller partition size.. the internal drive of the TC is partitioned though you cannot see them.. put a first partition less than 1TB and see how it goes.
In finder.. don't forget ML has issues with network drive.. make sure you tick all the extras in finder preferences.. and if the drive won't mount try to do it manually.. go .. connect to server.
AFP://TCname or TCIPaddress.. where you use the actual name or IP.
Also is the power supply for the hub at least 2A preferably more.. so the hub is powered but the disk is not powered??

• Windows Login Screen doesn't show "eye" symbol for Password Reveal and right arrow (Enter)

When logging in to Windows 8.1 the eye symbol and right arrow symbol have been displayed until (I guess so) after an automatic Windows Update . As I was planning to migrate to Windows 10 I didn't invest much investigation into this problem. Now, after successful migration to Windows 10 Home the problem still exists. After typing the password I can't verify it because the eye symbol is still missing and for entering I have to press "Enter" due to the missing clickable right arrow. All this happens with a Microsoft online Account. I established a local account and with this, the eye symbol but not the right arrow reappeared. Many thanks for helping.

Hi there
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you wish to enable the reveal password icon for your system. I am happy to help. It really depends on which version of the Operating system you are running, because this sort of thing is normally controlled using the Group Policy Editor. That tool is not a part of a Home edition, you would need the Pro version or higher to have that. Assuming that you do have a pro edition or higher, then these may be of help to you:5 Ways to Access Local Group Policy Editor on Windows 10 - isunshare.comDisable or Enable the new Password Reveal Button feature in Windows 8 - windowsclub.com Unfortunately the version of Windows 10 I have installed beside me is the home edition as well, so I cannot access this, to verify, so let me know if that works for you.

• Windows 7 partition doesn't show up on my boot camp assistant

i tried to Windows partition from my Mac and i this is all i get.
what should i do?

Are you trying to use Airplay or a wired HDMI/DVI connection From Windows?
Are the BC drivers installed? You can find them using the matrix at Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems - Apple Support and download/instal them on the Windows side.
According to MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) and (15-inch, 2.53 GHz, Mid 2009) - Technical Specifications you have a Mini DP port.
Does your Audio work on the OS X side?
