Windows 7 Pinning to Taskbar

Why is it that when I try pinning a folder to the taskbar (ANY folder), it uses "Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools" as the default/parent program under which the folder is pinned?
Furthermore, how can I effectively uninstall the ThinkVantage Tools? All the Lenovo tools are available individually. The ThinkVantage Tools area is just a place where all the different tools can be seen together. The ThinkVantage Tools do not appear in Add/Remove Programs (ThinkVantage Toolbox is different). ThinkVantage Tools is apparently located in:
Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers\RAJ-THINK\Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools
No other .exe or folder exists. More specifically the ThinkVantage Tools link in Control Panel points to:

So:
1) How do I get Windows7 to not recognize folders (that are being pinned) as Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools

2) How do I remove the Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools, as this would probably solve the issue in 1)

In case you want to uninstall all the ThinkVantage Technologies(TVT) applications, then there is no common uninstal string you have to do it using the Add/Remove programs.
To answer your qestions:
1) for this question, it would be the best to search the MS KB for this hint. By XP you could simply change the way, how some items get opened, or what do you see, when you right-click and item, but on win7 it changed. To be honest till now I did not searched for this option, but I bet, that MS once again changed the location. So google is the best friend.
OR
Maybe what you want to achieve is to get rid of the ThinkVantage option from the start bar, so if yes, please test following, if this is exactly what you are looking for:
- right-click on the Task bar
- select Toolbars-> and uncheck the option next to "Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox"
2) You need to uninstall all the TVT application one by one, and then all will be sorted out. (Especially uninstall the "Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox")
I understand, that this is not what you have expected as a respond.
Anyway, let me know, if there is any update, that you can provide to this topic.
If I missed your point, then please get me some screenshot, so that I fully understand, what is the root cause.

Window with no taskbar entry, both JWindow and undecorated frames dont work

I wanted to create a borderless, window without a titlte bar, with no task bar entry, so as in JDK 1.3, I created a JWindow and it worked pretty good. Now that I have upgraded to JDK 1.4, it turns out that in order to get a focus to components with JWindow, you need to pass in a controller frame in the JWindow constructor, and this controller frame has to be made visible for the components within the window to have focus. Now that I pass in a controller frame to the JWindow constructor and make it visible, I see an icon for the window in the taskbar.
The new way to create borderless window in JDK 1.4 is to create an undecorated frame, but for undecorated frames an icon always appear in the task bar.
Anybody knows how to have a borderless window without a title bar and task bar entry in JDK 1.4. Any help would be highly appreciated.

try creating a JDialog and call setUndecorated on it. I think Dialogs don't add taskbar entries.

How do I pin RUN.LNK when there are no Pin To Taskbar verbs

None of the RUN.LNK shortcuts have a Pin To Taskbar verb.
I have searched every RUN.LNK on the disk, none have it.
Under Win8, I can find the Run icon in the Apps panel, and pin it to both the Taskbar and Start Menu.
This is a puzzler for me.
I want to do this with Powershell, which I already use to pin all the other common apps that I require.

Apparently, I have not provided sufficient detail.
This is entirely a scripting issue.
In the Win8 apps tile collection, a series of icons are available for Pinning to either the Start or Taskbar systems. Right-click on the icon shows a series of verbs applicable to these shortcuts.
In Powershell, I locate the .LNK file I want to Pin
$objItem = $objShell.Namespace($cDesktop).Parsename($strFullPathToLink)
In Powershell, I then extract the Verb in this LNK
$objVerb = $objItem.Verbs() | ? { $_.Name -like '*Pin to Tas*' }
Finally, my Powershell script executes the Pin verb:
$objVerb.Doit()
The RUN item on the Metro tiles is unique.
The Properties shows the two Pin verbs, but these are not visible to Powershell.

Windows 8.1 taskbar pinned items are lost.

I just noticed this after an OSD
I have tried the option donotcleantaskbar=true it doesn't work in windows 8.1 it seems. Does anyone have a work around or a script to keep the pinned items on the taskbar?

RoboHelp 8 - Pin to Taskbar (Windows 7)

Is there a reason you can't pin RoboHelp 8 to the taskbar in Windows 7? All other Adobe programs I use (Captivate, Photoshop, and Premiere) can be.

It's a Microsoft quirk but there is a workaround. See Snippets on my site.

I manage 120 units in a win 7 32 and 64 bit computer lab, I need to take the IE icon off the taskbar and replace it with Mozilla Firefox icon for every user that logs on in an active directory environment. Can anyone give me some assistance with this task.

Pin to taskbar common MS Office programs during OSD

sccm2007 sp2 R2; Windows 7 x64 - OSD image.
i am trying to pinning some office applications like word, excel, ppt, outlook to taskbar after office 2007 installed in osd image.
I tried unattend.xml file (4 specialize\Taskbarlinks) with no luck.

When you are working for over 20 thousand computers, it is nice to have pin atleast office applications....
Sorry, that's what I get for skimming.
Not to turn this into a sidebar of whether you should or shouldn't, but 20,000 users means 20,000 different ways of doing something -- why is your opinion of pinning things to the taskbar taking precedence over the user's opinion? I'm not trying to say your
opinion isn't valid, but it's only valid for you. If the user's want to pin something to the taskbar, teach them how -- teach them to fish.

Why websites pinned to taskbar fail to open firefox?

Using Windows 7 and Firefox 6.0.2, when I click on a shortcut pinned to the Firefox shortcut in the taskbar (after right clicking on the shortcut to bring up the list of pinned and frequent sites), nothing happens. If Firefox is already open, then clicking on the shortcut works.
Prior to the last updates for Windows and Firefox this always worked to open Firefox at the desired website. It now works for none of the pinned url's.

Check the Mailto application in Firefox > Preferences > Applications
Make sure that it isn't set to the Firefox application.

Firefox will not pin to taskbar when installed to C drive, but will when installed to D. Why?

I used to have Firefox installed to the D drive, which used to be the C drive. New install of windows, and half a year later, was running firefox off of the D drive. I upgrade to Firefox 4, and I want to switch it to my C drive, which is a SSD. When I open firefox 4 from C (runs fine), and try to pin it, it says it pins it. I close it, and it says that the file has been deleted or moved and that no such file exists on the D drive location. I right click on the .exe file in the C drive and pin it there, and that works, but every time I open it, it opens new programs next to it on the task bar. Pin those and try to use them and it gives the same error. Why in the world would this happen?

I have exactly the same issue. After FF upgraded on its own to version 5, it won't open from start menu, taskbar, desktop icon, or even by pressing firefox.exe in program files directory. It does so by pressing a link at msn messenger, inside Outlook etc.
Disabling all addons, didn't help. Moreover, I can't start FF in safe mode or start profile manager (Start > Run> firefox.exe -ProfileManager).

Firefox 4b2 and Windows 7, multiple tabs shows up as windows in OS-taskbar

I have been using Firefox on my Windows 7 based computer (Ultimate x64) and I didn't experience this when using v3.6 and earlier versions. But ever since I updated to v4 (beta 1 and now beta 2), I have noticed that when I have multiple tabs open in Firefox, it shows up as Windows in Windows 7-taskbar... If I hover the pointer over to, and place it above the Firefox Icon (or click it), a LOOOOOooonng list shows up with each tab.. But that wasn't the case when using v3.6 for example, instead, each window showed up, but the tabs didn't show until I opened the actual Firefox-window, and this is exactly how I would like it to be.. I have been searching with lights and without finding any answer/s, search the settings-tab and other locations where this feature might show up, but I can't seem to find it, Im completely out of ideas and I need your help.

Windows 7 (x64) taskbar not working after using digitizer in tablet mode. x61t.

I have Windows 7 professional x64 on my thinkpad x61t. I updated all drivers from windows update and also from lenovo.com. So far it's been about two weeks with no problems. But when I started using tablet mode (fold) for lecturing a class (clone video output) in tablet mode, the taskbar stops responding to my clicks. No error message or anything, but I just can't press the start button or anything on the taskbar using a stylus. The point on the screen moves and follows my digitizer/mouse correctly, but I can't press anything. The keyboard works though, so I can restart the computer to get it back working. What could be causing the problem?
I've tried installing lenovo-wacom dual touch driver, but it only caused more problems, so I had to remove it and use the windows update driver.
x61 tablet / multitouch / 3GB Ram / intel wifi / bluetooth

Workaround: Press 'Control + Alt + Del' to open task manager, and click 'Cancel'.
Stylus worked okay during teaching using Onenote. The problem starts when I start clicking the start menu and try opening other programs while in tablet mode. Once the loss of pointer, the only thing works is the keyboard.
I found a workaround for this. Press 'Control + Alt + Del' to open task manager, and click 'Cancel'. Then you can gain control again, at least until the next time you loose mouse/tablet control.
I currently have hotkey driver and sound driver (final driver for win7). For system interface driver / tablet button driver / tablet shortcut menu, I installed beta drivers. All other drivers were updated through Windows Update.
I'd appreciate if anyone finds a fix for this problem.

Opening a window from a taskbar icon lags application!! PLZ HELP!

Hey, everyone!
I'm trying to have an application icon in my taskbar, that once I click on it, will open a new window.
That's pretty simple to do, so i thought, but then I came across something wierd!!
When I open the window with the click on the icon, the entire application (all other windows too) really lag!!
And there is no increase in CPU or MEM usage, or anything!
If you close the windows, the application still lags once you open a new one.
And the wierdest thing is, that if you open the window with a right-click, and clicking on the menu item which shows up, no lagging is caused whatsoever!
I should note that this only happens when the window contains the RichTextEditor component. Maybe it's a specific problem with the component, or maybe it's a general performance issue, and the RichTextEditor is just really 'heavy'. I dunno....
Anyways, here is the code. Hope you guys can help!!!

Firefox restores (expands) all reduced windows from the Taskbar everytime I select "Open In A New Window" for a link.

Nightwolfx03 has asked this same question as question #822903, but with different wording. To maximize the matches for searches, I'm re-stating it.
When I right click on a link and select "Open Link In New Window" to display a new webpage, Firefox restores (expands) ALL the windows which have been minimized on my taskbar. Multiple windows cascade upwards onto my screen, taking several seconds and being incredibly annoying. HELP!

This issue can be caused by the ASK.com Toolbar
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Windows 8.0 taskbar properties navigation tab not displayed in windows 8.0

When I click on taskbar properties it does not display a navigation tab in my windows 8.0 notebook like it does in my desktop 8.1 system. How do I get Windows 8.0 to display the taskbar properties navigation tab?

Bat file shortcut can't be pinned to taskbar

After fighting a running battle with the Truvero virus* I've finally give up. I have notice that it append "Search.net"
to all my browser shortcuts but it leaves the exe file alone, so I dont get that Bing search Engine and Truvero on start up.
So I created a bat file that runs the chrome.exe file and saved it to the desktop. It works great but when i try to pin it to the
taskbar I can't. Same for a shortcut to the bat file.
Why can't I do this? Is there a script that Win 7 recognizes that will pin to the taskbar?
* I know Truvero is not really a virus, but it's just as hard to get rid of.

How is the current situation? I suggest you use your anti-virus to scan the whole computer.
Is Truvero a file or something else?
According to your description, it seems that your Internet Explorer can't work fine.
If I am right, please let me know what's the symptoms when you attempt to launch Internet Explorer.
If your computer works fine before, the easier way to resolve the issue is to use system restore to roll back to a previous time when everything worked fine.
