Windows 7 print spooler won't start

I upgraded my Dell Inspiron 545 from Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium a week ago and have only been able to print one document since then.
Under Vista my Canon MP610 and Lexmark 705 printers both worked, but no luck with Windows 7.
I keep getting the message Print Spooler isn't started.
I've tried starting it from the services dialog box and it just won't go. I've run an SCN scan and no problems were found.
My printers do work because our MacBook in the kitchen can get them to print from our wireless network.
Help!

Hello,
This problem is caused by the corrupted Printer Spooler service. Try the following steps to repair it:
Step 1
======
Start Windows Explorer, and then rename all files and folders in the following two folders:
c:\windows\system32\spool\printers
c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86
To rename a file, we can right click the file and select Rename.
Step 2
======
1. Click Start, type REGEDIT in the Start Search Bar, and then press ENTER.
2. Navigate to and then click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environment\Windows NT x86
View the list of subkeys. There should be only the following subkeys:
Drivers
Print Processors
If there are any keys other than those listed above, follow these steps:
a. On the File menu, click Export.
b. In the File Name box, type a descriptive name for this key -- for example, type WindowsNTx86regkey -- and then click Save to save it to your local Desktop.
We can use this backup of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environment\Windows NT x86 registry key to restore the key if you experience any problems after you complete this procedure.
c. Delete all keys other than Drivers and Print Processors.
Step 3
======
Navigate to and click the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors registry key. View the list of subkeys. There should be only the following subkeys:
BJ Language Monitor
Local Port
Microsoft Document Imaging Writer Monitor
Microsoft Shared Fax Monitor
Standard TCP/IP Port
USB Monitor
WSD Port
If there are any keys other than those listed in above, follow these steps to delete them:
a. On the File menu, click Export.
b. In the File Name box, type a descriptive name for this key -- for example, type Monitorsregkey -- and then click Save to save it to your local Desktop.
We can use this backup of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors registry key to restore the key if you experience any problems after you complete this procedure.
c. Delete all keys other than the 5 listed above.

I recently updated my Toshiba Satellite c55 to Windows 8.1 and now every time I try to it says Print spooler is out of service. when I go to services and try to start my print spooler manually it says the same thing. Ever since I updated I can't print anything
and I can't figure out how t fix this problem. if it helps any I have a Brother MFC-J435w printer. anyone know how to fix this?

  • Printer Spooler Won't Start

Dear HP Forum,     When I try to print something or add a printer, it says printer spooler service not runnning. I found ways to fix the problem. I went to services.msc to printer spooler and when I tried to start the  service it said error: 0x800706b9 Not enough resoucres are available to complete this operation. Can you please help I need to print really important documents.                                                                  Sincerely,                                                                             HP Printer Customer

If Adil's suggestion does not work then try the command below.  This will clear out your current dependencies on the spooler and leave it with just RPCSS which should allow you to start print spooler.  Remember to run this from and Administrative
command prompt by going to your start screen and typing in "cmd" and then right clicking on Command Prompt and selecting Run As Administrator.
    sc config spooler depend=rpcss
do not work for me at all: get the error msg:
    [SC] OpenService FAILED 1060
The specified service does not exist as an installed service.
Be kind and Mark as Answer if I helped.

I have been furnished and must install a Diabetes handheld  meter driver for Onetouch Ultramini w/USB software & USB driver software v2(.3.3).  The Onetouch meter's USB cable and software install require that a print spooler be operational.  The Win8.1 print spooler will not start or stay running.  The win8.1 print spooler has many problems or issues according to the Microsoft web postings.
After my issue has been resolved, please have your Lawyers contact Lifescan corporate Lawyers that the glucose meter's software & functionality Should NOT be dependent upon either Micrsoft or Laser printer vendors products.

    Good day sir,
Sorry to hear about the issues experienced with the printer and certainly hope that things do get better.
Do you have an HP printer or Brother printer?
If Brother, unfortunately we are unable to assist with those in these forums.

  • Received error 1920 service print spooler failed to start verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services

In installing Adobe XI Pro this error message was received "error 1920 service print spooler failed to start verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services". What does this mean and how can I get this installed?

It very much means what it says - you do not have sufficient administrative privileges and something on your system is blocking the (virtual) PDF printer driver from being installed.

  • Windows 7; Printers Have Disappeared; Printer Spooler won't stay running.

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium and an Epson Stylus Photo R220 printer. I also had a few virtual printers (ie: Snagit) installed before the problems started.
All of the printers (from my Devices and Printers) have disappeared, except for a generic "USB Printer" selection that shows it is my Epson R220. I can't print to it, and when I try to print a document and try to "Add Printer", a warning pops up saying "Can't
Add Printer. The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine." I've tried both with no success.
Sometimes, when I try to start the Print Spooler, I get a message "Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly." or it starts and just stops again.
I have also tried reinstalling the driver for my printer as specified from Epson's website, but the installer can't detect my printer, and if I try manually finding the port, nothing comes up, which I find odd since my computer recognizes when the printer
    is attached.
Lastly, and I'm hoping it's not connected although I think it likely is, last night my computer had troubles starting Windows. So I did as it directed and I loaded my Windows CD into the computer and had it "Repair the problem". After several minutes, Windows
    booted fine again.
Now I really don't want to have to reinstall Windows, as that will remove all of my program files, so I'm hoping that's not the only solution. Any ideas?

I have wrestled with this issue on a client's computer for a few days now and I am coming to the conclusion that a Windows Update (do not know which one) has caused the problem.
    Windows 7 Professional 64-bit installation
Printers disappeared from Devices and Printers and from the list of printers within applications.  A reboot does nothing and there is a DCOM error that occasionally pops up, but the client has only seen it and I don't know the specifics.
Any attempt to start the Print Spooler gives me a 1053 error, which is "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."
Doing a NET START SPOOLER from a command prompt gives me "The service is not responding to the control function."
As a last resort I did an in-place upgrade of Windows 7 (run setup on the installation DVD from Windows - not from boot - and choose the upgrade option.  All Windows system files are restored and user information is left in tact.)
This completely solved the problem.  After doing this, however, the Windows Updates need to be brought up to date, so I went through the updating process.  15 minutes after I left, the client called me and said his printers were gone again.
I have come back today to figure this out and after trying a couple more things I decided to do a System Restore, the last of which was created before the installation of Windows Updates.  After running restore, the system rebooted and all printers
were there and the spooler was running normally.
Because I thought there was some other issue, I again ran Windows Update to bring back the same updates I had done before.
Guess what?   No printers, spooler not working.
I am now going to restore again to before the 64 windows updates that installed and turn off the automatic update function until Microsoft figures out what is wrong and comes up with a patch.
This is what I believe the problem is.  I am going to look at the list of updates and check to see if Microsoft did a DCOM update, because that might be the problem, since DCOM is a dependency of the spooler and because there was some kind of DCOM error.

  • HP 1522nf printing job won't start

    Hi:
I have the HP 1522nf. I always leave the printer power on. Sometimes like once a month, the printer job will not start. I can still go into the printer setting website. (192.168.1.x) But whenever I print, the transfer will stuck at about 68.2kb, and just won't print anything. I have a restart the printer, and then everything is back to normal. I also tried to unplug the printer's network, it will print out eventually just right after I unplug it. And then print out a error message saying "syntax error" offending command: --nostringval--. What's the problem here?
    I have the newest firmware.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
From the Desktop, hold down the Windows key and press R.  Into the Run window, type services.msc and hit enter.
Browse down to the print spooler service, right click it and select Properties then click on the Stop button.
Now browse to C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS and delete the job inside this folder - You may need to click a prompt to gain the appropriate authority to open the PRINTERS folder.
Restart the computer and you should find the job has been removed.

  • Print spooler won't run, printer won't connect or install, l have the disk

The printer will scan but it won't print,it says the print spooler is not on, live tried the installation disk, the computer can't even find the printer

Try manually starting the print spooler. If that doesn't work, you may need to contact Microsoft as there may be a problem with your OS install.
To manually start the print spooler:
    1. Click the start menu.
    2. In the search box type services.msc and press Enter on your keyboard.
    3. Scroll down the list until you see Print Spooler.
    4. On the left-hand side of the window, you should see the work Start in blue letters. Click that and it should start the spooler service.
    5. Right click on the Print Spooler and make sure it's set to start automatically.
    6. Close the window.

  • What can I do if my Windows 7 or Windows Vista laptop won't start?

I have joined many forums in my short computer life. This is by far the best forum that I have been a part of. It really up sets me when people come on here and complain before they have even given any of the staff or advisors a chance to help them with their problem. What can I do if my Windows 7 or Vista laptop won't start.
    http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Computer-Troubleshooting/What-can-I-do-if-my-Windows-7-or-Windows-Vista...
This is a great tutorial. Step by step to get your PC up and running and a lot more.Seriosly, if you can't follow this tutorial, you shouldn't have a computer. There will times when this won't work and you will have hardware problems. There are some great people here on the forum that can help you find those problems also. I have tried all these recovery options; they work, and I love my Toshiba laptop. That's why I donate my time to help and that's why others here donate their time. I'm creating this message because I know Google will pick it up. Google picks up every thing

Hi!! You should try the recovery feature in W7. Some times it can be accessed through safe mode. On my model it's easier to use the system repair disc. You can find out how to create that here.

You can learn how to use the system repair disc here.

These are basic things you need to know if your going to own a Toshiba laptop.
PS Some day I'm going to convince staff to make a sticky of these things; which would cut their work in half, but then I wouldn't have any thing to do.
Here's what the recovery looks like. You have 5 options to help you. The Dos option can really help if you are familiar with Dos. In Dos you can do a chkdsk---sfc /scannow--- and a whole lot more. Start with the Repair option first and work your way down.

  • Windows 8 laptop won't start on my Toshiba laptop

My Toshiba satellite laptop , model : C55t-A5222 . It won't load windows 8.1. I updated some software and now Windows won't start. The computer goes straight to automatic repair. I would like Windows back so I can use Excel.

    Satellite C55T-A5222
You need to reach the recovery environment.
If you have another Windows 8.x computer with the same bitness, you can create a repair thumbdrive.
If not, according to Microsoft trying and failing to boot several times will eventually take you to the recovery environment instead. According to Toshiba, you can also get there by pressing F2 or the zero key on powering up. If you have completely shut down Windows 8, Toshiba says you can get there using F12 to reach the UEFI boot menu and then selecting HDD Recovery. Please try these out many, many times and let us know what happens.
If all else fails, you can download a Windows 8.1 installation media, which will enable to to access the recovery environment.

  • Windows Printing vs Java Web Start

I am having a hard time printing from a Java Web Start application to a printer attached to a Windows server. I don't have problems with this printer and other (i.e Mac) applications. When I try to print from the JWS app the job gets sent to the Printer window but the Status is "On Hold (Authentication Required)". If I click the Resume button I get prompted for my (Windows) username and password, after that the print job goes through normally. I noticed the Print window shows this job's username as "System Administrator". When when I print from a Mac application the username is blank and the print job goes straight to the printer. The Activity Monitor shows I am the owner of the JWS process. On Tiger web start just prints normally. This is very frustrating. Any ideas?

I have tested this further and have additional observations.
    1. The problem is observed in java applications, like JEdit, not just web start applications.
    2. The scenario described in the original post applies to admin users. It is possible to work around the issue by creating a custom printing queue using the Advanced tab in the Printing CP. The normal Windows printing queue looks like: "smb://printServer:port/Printer". If you create a custom queue of this form: "smb://windowsUsername:password@printServer:port/Printer" then the java application will print without requiring further confirmation in the Print queue dialog.
    3. The scenario and workaround do not work with a standard user. With a standard user the java application presents a modal dialog that indicates a printing failure. The dialog does not get dismissed after clicking the OK button, but does close when the java application is quit. I have not found any work arounds that allow standard users to print.

  • Acrobat XI Pro installed on Windows 7 but won't start

I bought a stand-alone version of Acrobat XI Pro, and installed it on my Windows 7 computer. The first time I try to launch, I get a window asking me to verify the serial number. The DDL for product name doesn't list Acrobat XI Pro and it won't accept my serial number (even though I copy/pasted it from the order page on the adobe.com site). It says that the serial number is valid but that the product isn't on the machine. And yet, when I navigate to program files> Adobe > Acrobat, viola--there it is.
When I double-click the exe file, I get the message, "validating serial number", followed by "serial number is valid, but qualifying product could not be found..."
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times, to no avail. And yes, I've also tried restarting after installing as well. I am, of course, on a deadline and really need this working...
    Help!

I'm pretty sure that I bought the full version, but will check.
The window wasn't asking for what version I upgraded from, but I can try that...and I hadn't installed the old version on this machine (new computer).

  • Failed Windows install now won't start up in OS X

Hi all, I am trying to install Windows 7 on bootcamp. I have three internal drives. One brand new 1tb 7200 seagate drive that I just put in. Partitioned it for NTFS. Rebooted to the disc ISO but get this error 'status 0xc00000e9' on install which would be ok if not for the fact that I can't boot back into OS X. If I do a hard shut down and power on I hold option and it still boots back into the disc with the same failure. As well if I hold down X on restart it still boots me back into the disc drive as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm going nuts here.

Hello all got it fixed. I unplugged all devices from the tower except the keyboard and pulled out the sleds for the two hard drives that did not have my OS X start up on them. The option key then allowed me to chose startup disc. Not sure what variable it was that allowed this to work.
