Windows 7 Product Key Blocked - Not Genuine notice

My T420 is 3 years old and suddenly yesterday I got the notices and black screen saying "This copy of Windows is not genuine." And nag screens about it roughly every half hour (and annoyingly at boot-up).
I tried several fixes online, including re-entering the Product Key. When I do that I get error code 0XC004F063. There's no place to contact Microsoft for a replacement key, it says to contact Lenovo.
I talked to Lenovo support this morning and was told I may need to reinstall Windows and they were mailing me Restore discs. He checked and said with that error code I needed to call Microsoft.
I called MS and they checked the Product Key...it's blocked. I gave him my Product ID and that's blocked too. He said get back to Lenovo.
Lenovo knows nothing about this. Or what to do about it. The woman told me she had someone call this morning with something similar, though it was with Windows 8. She checked and several other support people had had similar calls this morning. She also said I'd probably have to reinstall Windows. I asked if she'd ever had this before and she said no. I asked if she knew of others having these calls before and she said not that she knew of. I asked if it seemed suspicious that suddenly a few people were having this problem. Sounds like Lenovo blocked a series of Product Keys. She hedged about whether it was truly escalated and said the Floor Manager was aware of it and they'd look into it. When I asked if they'd contact me if they found out anything, she said it doesn't work that way. They're mailing me the Restore discs and I'm to call back Friday to see if anyone knows anything.
In the meantime, here's my MS Genuine log. It looks okay to my untrained eye....anyone have any insights or know of other instances of this, especially in the past 24 hours?

Mark this as SOLVED. I got it sorted out. No one (including me) realized that the Product Key Belarc gives is a generic Lenovo one and that the lack of a sticker is because it's under the battery. I didn't realize this...and neither did Two Lenovo support people!

  • Product key will not work with this edition of Windows 7

I received a product key for Windows 7 Professional N whilst I was at University via Dreamspark. I'm building a new computer and when it's come to inputting the product key, it comes up saying Product key will not work with this edition of Windows 7.
The version I installed was Windows 7 Professional using an iso and a USB. I rang the phone activation number and when I got through to a representative, I gave him the product key and he said it is valid and should be working. He transferred me to technical
services but instead I got cut off.
At this point I'm really not sure what the issue is, the key was for Windows 7 Professional N, I installed Windows 7 Professional and customer support confirmed it as a valid key. Am I missing something?

Post your issue to the Windows 7 Genuine Issues forum.  Here are the instructions on how to produce a diagnostic:
    MGA
    Diagnostic Report:
To properly analyze and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the diagnostic report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop -http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once downloaded, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, after a short time, the Continue button will change to a Copy button.
Click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your post.
    One
    Issue Per Thread:
Most Activation and Validation issues look the same, on the surface, but can have many different causes and fixes. This is why we ask for a diagnostic report and this is also why we ask that you create your own thread for your issue (in other words,
don't post your issue in another person's thread).
It just becomes too complicated to try to troubleshoot multiple different issues in the same thread.

Where can i find my windows product key ? am I not allowed to know this these days ?

If you bought  a notebook with Windows 8, there are no product key stickers anymore.
The key is now digitally encoded in the BIOS.
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/windows-8-to-have-oem-activation-3-0/
I don't have a notebook that came with windows 8, so I don't know if you can see it in the BIOS or not but that would the place to look.

  • Miix2 8 Windows Product Key not accepted

    Hello,
I got a brand new Miix2 8 which asks me to activate Windows.
I got a sticker with the Windows product key inside the product box. However Microsft tells me that there is something wrong with it. In the UEFI I can find the entry for the windows key. There it says "Std" only.
Where can I get a working product key. My device should be activated by the factory already?
    Thanks and Best Regards
    Marco

That raises flags. I would contact Lenovo to have the machine re-imaged.
Also, can you clarify when you said you received a product key in the box? Again, it seems very unusual. With other series, the key is either affixed to the unit, or embedded into the BIOS.
Did you purchase this unit through a retailer, or direct from Lenovo?

  • Windows 7 Enterprise is not genuine after installing new hard-drive and cloning the old one

I retired from my job as a university professor two years ago, and they let me keep my laptop computer, which is a Dell Latitude E4300 with Windows 7 Enterprise installed. I do not have any of the original disks for Windows. Recently, the hard-drive began
to fail, so I replaced it with a new one, cloning the old hard-drive onto the new one. Soon after that, a popup window began appearing saying that this computer is not running genuine windows. One important consequence of this is that I can no longer use Windows
Update, so I have concerns about security. If I go to the control panel under “System”, it says windows is activated and gives me the Product ID. I have talked to tech support at Microsoft, and they tell me something along the lines of the following: that
the problem is the new hard-drive is not recognized as being licensed to use this copy of Windows, and that I should post a question on one of the forums asking this: How can I reinstall Windows 7 Enterprise on the new hard-drive? Any assistance will be much
    appreciated.
PS I have no idea which forum this should go under, so pretty much just picked one randomly.

Thank you for the reply. Below is the diagnostic report:

    Dear chong2010,
what you are experiencing is not unheard of, part of the counterfeit protection on the MS OS involves taking note of certain aspects of the Hardware, including the hard drive, so changing the drive is VERY likely to trigger this reaction on part of
    the OS.
All you need to do is to perform the validation process again, as you did when you initially installed the box (or initially used the box, if pre installed by manufacturer), using the same original windows key (you should have it in a label attached to the
box of the computer of in the supporting documentation of the purchase).
You can do this from "control panel" -> 'system security" -> "system" or by typing "
    cscript slmgr.vbs /ato
in the command line (admin privs required in this command line)
    Best Regards / Saludos, Marianok

  • New install of SQL 2014 Std MSDN. Get "The SQL Server product key is not valid. To proceed, re-enter the product key values from the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) or SQL Server packaging."

Trying to install a new version of SQL 2014 Std 64 or x86. Installing on Windows 8.1Pro 64bit machine.
    I get:
    "TITLE: SQL Server Setup failure.
SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:
The SQL Server product key is not valid. To proceed, re-enter the product key values from the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) or SQL Server packaging.
    Error code 0x858C0017."
I looked at the summary log and that is the only error.
I made sure there were no other instances of SQL on this machine. Uninstalled all VS2013 and sql instances just in case. IF there is somewhere to check if a previous version or license is causing the issue, i would be glad to check.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Wrong Windows product key during SP2 installation

Hi all, i have reinstalled the windows XP.
When i try to update the SP2 for the system, mircrosoft told me i am not using a right product key.
Then i follow the instructoin to download a KeyUpdate Tool and i put in the product key which under my notebook, it saids it is not the correct key for the windows that i am using.
At the compare product key site, it shows:
    OS Version: Windows XP Professional
    Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
    Model: Satellite M60
    Product Key: *****-*****-*****-*****-P6R2Y
It shows correctly the manufacture and the model.
However, i am using a Windows Xp Home Edition and the key from that CD is end with *****-*****-*****-*****-Q6JWG.
And the product key from my notebook is end up with *****-*****-*****-*****-GCFKM.
Then I download the Windows Product Key Update Tool and put in both the product key from the CD and notebook.
Both of them dosen't work. I want to know how can I update the Service Pack for my windows. Can anyone help? Thx!
What can i do for that? Thx!!!!!

    Hi
I have read some threads about similar problems with the OS key and the key changing has always helped
Sometimes Microsoft rates the image keys as incorrect or invalid. Why? I don't know... it's Microsoft you know ;)
Fact is that the key on the CD cover can be used only to activate the installed Microsoft Works or OneNote software on the notebook. The key is not responsible for the Windows OS!
The key which could be used with Win OS is placed at the bottom of the unit.
Well, according to your message you used this key and now Im a little bit confused
I think you should make a call to the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country for clearing this problem

  • Using Windows product key

QuestionCan I use the product key on the bottom of my computer to activate Windows?
AnswerAcer’s OEM version of Windows does not require a product key to activate. This means if you are using recovery disks you created on your system, or disks you ordered from Acer, Windows will automatically activate without the need for a product key. The product key on the bottom of the notebook is an OEM product key.  This product key does not work for activating retail versions of the operating system.
If you did not make or are no longer able to obtain recovery media, you would need to purchase an operating system of your choice for installation.

  • Prompted for Windows product key after FBReseal.exe

    Greetings,
With the EOL of Windows XP fast approaching, we are planning to deploy POSReady 2009 to several cash registers.  My plan is to install the POSReady 2009 Ghost image provided by our vender/OEM, make our site specific modifications, then run fbreseal
and create a new image for deployment.  My problem is that after I run fbreseal (and then simply reboot the register as a test) the setup wizard asks me for a Windows product key (which I don't have and can't get because OEMs can not give it to customers).
I thought that the entire purpose of fbreseal was for cases like this when you do not have a Windows product key?  What am I missing?  Is there a hidden switch I should be using with FBReseal?
    Thanks,
    Dasani

I had found/read the document... I guess the fourth paragraph had led me to believe that FBReseal would not ask for the product key:
"Sysprep is useful in scenarios when you have access to your POSReady product key, and also provides additional customizing functionality over FBReseal. FBReseal does not require a product key, but it does not have as many features as Sysprep, and it can
only be run one time. If you do not have access to your POSReady product key, you must use FBReseal."
When I apply the Ghost image from the vender and start the register I get the following prompts:
    - Welcome Screen
    - I have to accept the license agreement
    - Choose regional/language options
    - Define my name/organization
    - Define computer name and administrator password
When I FBReseal it and then restart, I get the exact same prompts EXCEPT after I define my name and organization it asks for the Windows product key.
I suspect the vender did not prepare our Ghost image properly, it appears that they may have ran FBReseal.  Based on the POSReady 2009 deployment guide, this should not be done:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd936220(v=winembedded.0).aspx
"The product ID (PID) that is required to license the OS is only available to an OEM. End users receive a fully installed OS that can be customized. It is important to understand the state of the POSReady OS that you receive from your OEM. The original installation
of POSReady must be prepared by the OEM by using the Sysprep utility. This will put the OS image in a state that is ready to be customized and cloned. The OEM must not use FBReseal to prepare the computer for cloning. The suggested cloning method, which uses
Windows Deployment Services, will only recognize a device that has had a full Sysprep pass. The OEM will likely provide two sets of media to aid in the POSReady customization process:"
Anyway, since the vender I'm working with is slow.... it appears I may have no choice but use their Ghost image and then apply all of our customizations to each and every register.
    Thanks,
    Dasani

  • I Need the Windows Product Key for my Laptop

I had to use my recovery disks and Microsoft was not able to validate the software online.  When I called Microsoft support, I was told I needed the Product Key.  When I looked under the bottom of my laptop, one of the numbers/letters is worn and hard to read.  I was told to contact HP.  When I attempted to do this on the website, I got a message that HP no longer services this laptop.  I don't need service.  I just need information.  All of the HP product information was nicely sealed and secured.  I don't understand why the same was not done for the Windows product key.  Thanks.

Check everything to make sure all is working OK.  I do not think it is necessary to reload the OS if everything is working.  There are other ways to get it activated.

  • WINDOWS PRODUCT KEY - for reinstalling WINDOWS

What if your computer comes with NO Windows Product Key sticker -- computer came new with Windows 7 preinstalled but, included Windows  8 installation discs - never needed a key & should've (in hindsight) made a boot repair disc - but, recently computer would NOT boot up - tried to repair it but, no luck -- SO, now if I want to reinstall Windows 7 will have to use an OEM but, need a Product Key for HP computers --- any time else you install Windows you are REQUIRED to enter your own Product Key # which is about 25 digits including letters, numbers & dashes ---------- I do have Windows 10 on another drive but, love Windows 7 -- Windows 10 is far better than 8 BUT, not as good as 7 I have looked all over my case for any WINDOWS sticker & inside too -- I have heard that laptops are usually under the battery but, for DESKTOPS will be stuck somewhere on the case & this does NOT have one -------------- it is just STUPID for HP to ship computers without a PRODUCT KEY as every other manufacturer does for this reason..THANKS

Hi,  Goodmorning! Uhm as far as I know Operating System of these unit didnt came with product keys, because operating system of this unit is from the manufacturer, And it was never been installed using standalone discs by hp. You might need to order recovery discs online on its support website. as far as I know. Hope you dont mind.

  • T440s Windows product key sticker

Hi, I plan on reinstalling Windows 8. Does anyone know where the Windows product key sticker is located on the T440s? I've looked under the battery compartment but it's not there. Any help would be appreciated.

It's built into the BIOS, so Windows Setup will pick it up automatically.
