Windows 7 Professional Pack configuration on SBS 2011 Essentials for Win 7 client after recovering a faulty system drive

I had a system drive fail on a PC the other day (Seagate Barracudas seem to do this!) and have replaced it with an SSD. Sadly its capacity is less than the original system partition on the failed drive so a bare metal restore does not work.  I have
therefore reinstalled Windows 7 Pro and configured the PC with the same name.
In the dashboard of the server Windows 7 Pro Pack is implemented, but it is not functioning on the client. I have re-configured it but still no joy. I cannot see a way to disable W7PP for the client without removing the Add-in and assume this is a problem
relating to using the same name for the computer.  Should I remove the Add-in and reinstall or is there an alternative?
TIA
Andrew

Here it is. I have replaced the user, client, domain and server names.
Thanks for your help. I am tempted to just remove the client from the domain, change the PC name and rejoin.

  • Step by step to disable Folder Redirection for a single user - Windows 7 and SBS 2011 Essentials

OK...I got chewed (by someone I have a lot of respect for) for pounding on an old thread, so I'm starting a new one. I've got the Windows 7 Value Pack Plugin for SBS 2011 Essentials and Folder Redirection is working for everybody. What I'm looking for is
exactly how to go into Group Policy and disable the FD for a single user. I'm not looking for quick, incomplete answers. If you don't have time to give me the 'For Dummies' version, don't bother. Sorry, but I've done all the Googling I can stand for one day
and I'm over it! (and a little grumpy)
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Wayne,
    Here's what I'd do.
    1) create a Security Group in your AD environment. Call it 'Folder Redirection Members' or something like that. Put all the user accounts in your AD environment who you want to have their folders continue to be redirected to the server, do not include the
one user who you wish to exclude.  in other words, you're going to use a specific security group to target the Folder Redirection policy (right now, it's Domain Users, which is everyone).
    2) Edit the Group Policy that the W7PP created in your AD environment. It's likely called "W7PVP Folder Redirection".  Start with verification under the Settings tab, expand Folder Redirection beneath User Configuration states that
Policy Removal Behaviouris set to Restore Contents.  Then proceed using the Editor, to make adjustments under the Scope tab; verify membership in Security Filtering.  Remove Domain Users,
add in Folder Redirection Members (or whatever you named your group in step 1).
    3) on your workstation that your user you are applying the change to disable folder redirection, Log on to the domain account while connected to your network, elevate a command prompt, and perform a 'gpupdate /force' command and then reboot your computer.
Folder redirection configuration should be removed from the system and redirected contents should be restored back to your local path. Verify with inspection of the My Documents or other folders.
Hope this helps. Keep in mind, no warranty implied or expressed in this advice.
Try not to be so darn grumpy. :-/

  • Windows 8.1 Client Support on SBS 2011 Essentials

Does anyone know if Windows 8.1 Client PC's are supported or will be (with a forthcoming Update Roll-up) on a SBS 2011 Essentials network?
By asking that i mean full support by using the Server Dashboard to manage it and setting up Backup and redirection policies....
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Sorry for my mistakes.
As I know, it seems there is no Microsoft articles that indicate Win8.1 Pro supported
under Dashboard management of Small Business Server 2011 Essentials. You can contact Microsoft Customer Service, I believe that you will get an accurate response there.

  • Install stuck: SBS 2011 Essentials on a Virtual Box

I’m trying to do a test install of SBS 2011 Essentials on a Virtual Box virtual machine running on a Win7 64-bit machine. I put the install partition on an external
    drive.
The install stops on a window that is titled Installing Windows. The screens says: “There was a problem during the installation. To restart the installation
click Restart. You can also view the installation error logs.”
When I open those installation error logs, I see no error. (It does have Info and Warning lines.)
I’m stuck there. If I could paste in the the contents of the error logs I would, but I can’t copy from the VM until there is an installed OS.
    Any help appreciated.

    Hello Rob,
There may still be a problem with two things.'
    1) Installing it on your external hard drive.  If it is a 'usb' drive, then it seems at times the software\drivers still causes some type of conflict depending on what type of system you have.
    2) Your network interface card is configured set.
Going off the assumption that you have the latest virtual box software, your problem may be point number '1'
Solution that works for some: Installed the virtual machine locally. (Remember, you can still set the disk dynamically to 160 whether you have the space locally or not)  Then transfered it to an external drive after everything  was installed and
    working.
Caveat: Shame to say, you may  not have local storage  large enough to hold the vm. This is why you probably bought the external drive in the first place.  Hope this helps. Just find a machine that will allow you to create the vm locally first
    if you can.

  • Cannot get Windows SBS 2011 Essentials to connect to Client Fails at Cannot connect this computer to the network. The server is not available

I am trying to connect a Windows 7x64 Pro client to a Windows Server 2011 Essentials server.  The connector starts fine, then it gives this error: "Your server cannot be located. Enter your server's name or IP address to proceed"

  • SBS 2011 Standard SP1 - Randomly rebooting after svchost crash

Last week 10/22, my SBS 2011 server began restarting randomly anywhere from every 2 hours to as long as every 4 hours. In reviewing the logs, it appears that an svchost process crashes (in Application log) which surrounds ntdll.dll and then many services
crash and the System log shows a request by RPC to restart the server.
I have seen similar threads but none of them end up with a solution or viable suggestion.
No changes were made to the server on that day but since this began, I have installed all updates to drivers and the OS but no change.

  • SBS 2011 GPO for changing the default save path applying to Win7 but not working

So this is a strange one. I've got an SBS 2011 server that's the only domain controller in the org. I've created a GPO to change the default save location for Excel 2013 and Word 2013 using the Office 2013 ADMX files which were installed to the PolicyDefinitions
    folder.
The GPO (U-Office2013 Default Save Location) only contains:
    1. User Configuration - Microsoft Excel 2013/Excel Options/Save - Default file location - Enabled - Z:\
    2. User Configuration - Microsoft Word 2013/Word Options/Advanced/File Locations - Default file location - Enabled - Z:\
The GPO is linked at the OU that contains my users for my SBS organization.
When I do a gpupdate /force on a windows 7 system with office2013 installed, and then run a gpresult/rsop, the policy appears to be applied successfully as it lists my GPO under the Applied GPOs list on the workstation:
    Applied GPOs
Default Domain Policy dyndns.local AD (24), Sysvol (24)
    U-Office2013 Default Save Location domain.local/SBSusers AD (6), Sysvol (6)
In the gpresult report, the applied settings appear under:
    Administrative Templates
    Extra Registry Settings
    software\policies\microsoft\office\15.0\excel\options\defaultpath Z:\ U-Office2013 Default Save Location
    software\policies\microsoft\office\15.0\word\options\doc-path Z:\ U-Office2013 Default Save Location
BUT, when I go to the workstation, and check office->options-Save-default file path, the path has not been changed to what the GPO is pushing.
The strange thing is that in my test environment running 2008R2 server and Win7 with Office 2013 and identical settings the default save location is applied and works as expected.
    Any ideas?
I've already tried re-installing the ADMX templates and re-created the GPO's several times.
    Thanks in advance.

When a group policy is not applying, it is often that it has been linked to the wrong OU. Please first check this.
You might also check the apply status on the client site based on the GPSVC.log.
    How to enable GPO logging:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/csstwplatform/archive/2010/11/09/how-to-enable-gpo-logging-on-windows-7-2008-r2.aspx
It looks more like an issue on server side than an issue of Office Group Policy settings. Try to post in Server forum and see if there is any luck:

I should also note that other GPO's on the SBS2011 server such as the folder redirection GPO work as expected on the same windows 7 system. It just appears to be an issue with the default save location in office2013 and other Office 2013 related GPOs which
utilize the recently added ADMX template that don't seem to be working for me.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Justin,
Thanks for your reply. I have tried several different user accounts (all have local admin privileges to the workstation) with the same issue. The default save path does not get applied from the GPO to any of the users i've tried. Here's the steps I took
    per your suggestion:
    1. log on as a user who has never logged onto the workstation before.
    2. run gpupdate /force (entered y for yes when prompted to log off).
    3. Log back in as the user and open Office and check the default save path. It has not been changed to match the GPO setting.
    4. Check rsop to see if the policy was applied. Rsop states the gpo was applied successfully.
I have attached the gpsvc.log file from a the session described above. The GPO Guid in question is: {DC3C93EC-7C28-48E9-BA38-FCA1E275A207}. Its common name is: U-Word 2013 Default Save Location. It's only setting is:
    Policies\Administrative Templates\Policy definitions(admx files retrieved from central store\Microsoft Word 2013\Word Options\Advanced\File Locations\Default File Location = Enabled\Documents = F:\

  • Photosmart c4580 windows 7 - set up CD doesn't work for Win 7!!!

    Hello,
I've got my Photosmart c4580  for a while know, I still think it might be possible to get it wirelesse.
The CD that was sold with it to set up the wifi connection does not work for Windows 7!!! Any idea, what I could download instead? All drivers are updated.
    Many thanks indeed,
    Caroline

You need to download and install the full feature software and drivers for Win 7 here. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4062&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3418... Now try.

  • Windows SBS 2011 Essentials out of space on C Drive

    Hi there!
We have a Dell server running SBS Essentials 2011, and we have recently been getting messages saying that the C Drive is full. When we purchased the server, we ensured that Dell installed loads of storage for us which is confusing.
Upon looking into it the C drive is limited to 60GB. Is there a way that we can increase this limit from 60GB to use some of the excess storage that we have spread over the D & E Drives? With 0.5GB left it keeps shouting at us! If we could enlarge the
drive to 120Gb we should be fine for another couple of years.
    Thanks in advance!
    Max

Thanks, I chatted with Adobe and got the programs move to the D drive.  Since then, I have found the appdata/roaming/adobe file that has a ton of disk space (32 gigs) still used on the C Drive.  How can I move this folder over to the D Drive as well?

  • Windows Update Error 80070002 on SBS 2011

I've tried many things to clear this up. SFC won't run, even in Safe Mode.  I've run the System Update Readiness tool many times and have managed to clear up some of the errors with downloaded KB's, but I still have a few problems in CheckSUR.log, per
the below.  Is there any way to clear up the remainder of this?  I don't have access to another server with those files, unfortunately.  Thanks in advance.

    Source Error:
The source code that generated this unhandled exception can only be shown when compiled in debug mode. To enable this, please follow one of the below steps, then request the URL:
    1. Add a "Debug=true" directive at the top of the file that generated the error. Example:
      <%@ Page Language="C#" Debug="true" %>
    or:
    2) Add the following section to the configuration file of your application:
    <configuration>
       <system.web>
           <compilation debug="true"/>

  • Windows 7 professional - 32 Bit - preloaded - how to go for Win 7 professional - 64 bit option

    Hi !
I recently purchased T510 Laptop with pre loaded Win 7 professional 32 bit OS. I want to upgrade this to Win 7 professional 64 bit. I tried to get help through Microsoft site and when I enter the Product Key, it requests me to contact Lenovo. When I called Lenovo support center they asked me to contact Microsoft site.
Can someone help in understanding if it possible to upgrade to 64 Bit professional using the same Key OR do we need to buy Windows 7 professional 64 Bit separately.
    Thanks for your help.
    Ritu Suri

Hi mail2ritusuri, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!
Try Lenovo again, and reference this support page:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-74752
    I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

  • Need SBS 2011 drivers for my RD240?

Anyone have any advice? the SBS 2008 64bit drivers do not work as a substitute. "Installation failed...wrong OS"
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

for the AST2040, try this driver by unpacking it and installing manually.   open devmgmt.msc and point the driver to the folder that you just unpacked (likely C:\drivers\).
for LSI MSM, this version should be compatible.   i'm using the same build on my thinkstation under server 2008 R2.
for the remaining drivers, you could also try manually installing them.   unpack everything you want to install, then point the location to C:\drivers and let windows do its magic.   many times this works when installing components in windows server that only have windows vista or 7 installers.

  • Windows 8.1 - T440s touchpad won't click for 1 sec after typing keyboard.

This is a well-known issue of Windows 8.1.
    See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2907018/en-us
But the problem is still there even after I did what the article says.
I disabled touchpad delay and installed hotfix from MS with no luck.
So I guess MS hasn't fixed it perfectly or there is a bug in Synapics' driver.
As a programmer, I alternate between typing keyboard and clicking buttons very quickly.
So this is a huge problem to me.
Is there anybody who knows how to fix/avoid this?

Look in the Synaptics Ultranav settings. There's a checkbox for Prioritize for Trackpoint and Keyboard input. Uncheck this.
Also disable PalmCheck if you haven't already.
