Windows 7 RC goes to sleep automatically while in use

Hello everyone!
When running Windows 7 RC on my laptop it sometimes goes to sleep even when I am using it. For example, while playing a game the screen just goes black and Windows sleeps. That is very frustrating because I have to wake it up and see that the game I was playing is closed. This problem occurred many times and during several different games. Although not every game is affected by this. I am not sure it happens too when I run applications.
I pretty much turned sleep off in all the settings in the Windows Control Panel. It is only suppose to sleep when the battery has only 1% left but my battery is always charged when running Windows.
Maybe I should also mention that my battery is in a very poor condition. I use this battery since about little more than a year and it has run through 385 cycles with only 27% of health left.
I hope someone can help me with this because if I cannot even play games on Windows then there is no reason to keep my Boot Camp partition.
Thank you!

I have the same problem you both have, and I have not confirmed this with Apple, but I'm almost positive it's an over heating issue. When your MacBook Pro goes to sleep while you were gaming, hurry up and touch the left fan vent next to the built in keyboard. Are we cooking eggs here or what? I'm presuming as a failsafe, once the CPU/GPU hits a certain temperature, an auto sleep function is triggered to prevent the system from cooking itself. As a work around I bought a laptop fan, which keeps it a lot cooler and has dimmed down the automatic sleeping issue. I think the main issue is that Apple's Bootcamp drivers aren't supporting fan control, therefore the fans are staying at their normal speed, when they really should be maxing out their speed when you're gaming.
Hope this helps.

  • Imac going to sleep intermittently while in use

Found this issue on many forums, but unfortunately I cannot find a solution.  Taking to an apple store for repair is not an option.  If I'm going to spend $300-$400 for repair, I might as well purchase a new PC.  I am not that attached to this mac, and now with operating issues, I'm even less so.  At least with a PC I can ctrl+alt-del and start all over.  I was expecting more than 4 years out of a $1200 imac, so if I have to replace repair every few years, I'm thinking I'd rather start with a clean slate for $400 every few years with a new PC.  Very frustrated not being able to find a solution online about this problem, seeing that it seems so common.
While working on imac and surfing the net, my screen will intermittently go to sleep.  I can wiggle the mouse and click it and it will come back on right where I left off, internet connection and all. Once it happens, it continues to happen until I shut down and walk away for a good length of time (overnight).  Problem seems to happen when the imac has been running for many hours at a time.  I have set up the activity monitor, but I don't know what the numbers mean or what to look for.
This initially started happening this past summer, and I thought it was a heat issue, but now that it's happening mid-winter, not so sure.  Also, in the summer this seemed to be prompted by streaming online, but now it is just from surfing.  Not sure if it would shut down if I was working in Pages or Numbers, as I do so infrequently.  Doesn't matter if it's Safari or Firefox and it's not a hot corners/sleep issue.  Also noticed my fan runs loud sometimes, but not always.  Not sure if it's a related problem.  Does not sleep because of fan, no consistency in shutting down, etc.
Someone who has had this same problem and resolved it, please respond.  I've seen many postings from people with the same problem, but responses are from people with the same problem.  Looking for a solution, please.
    Thanks.
    Sherry

It does sound like a heat-related issue. The fact that it takes a while from a cold start to begin happening, and that it contines until the machine is shut down for a while, and that it is exacerbated by streaming video (which tends to increase the amount of internal heat generation), and the increased fan speed, all point to a heat-related problem.
The place to start is to ensure the iMac's air vents are clean: http://www.ehow.com/how_12027325_clean-vents-imac.html
However, with a computer that old it's possible that enough dust has filtered through the vents and gotten built up on the internal components that it will need to be cleaned out to fix the problem. Assuming you don't want to do that yourself, you might check with the local Apple store to see if they will clean it for you at a reasonable price.

  • MacBook no longer goes to sleep automatically

I asked the question in the Mac Pro forum by mistake.. Hopefully I can get some input here?
My MacBook no longer goes to sleep automatically after the 'Computer Sleep' period has elapsed and without me using it. I can however make the MacBook go to sleep by using a sleep command from the menu or the one on the logon screen, as well ask closing the lid.
I have tried hard to find out what the problem is, but to no avail
    1. I have reset the NVRam
    2. I have reset the SMC
    3. I have deleted the sleepimage cache
    A. I have turned off 'Wake for Network Access'
    B. I have a Magic Mouse, but have turned off 'allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer.
My MacBook won't sleep even if I close all programs beforehand.
These are the products that I have an start up:
    itunes helper
    radioshift helper
    colormunki
    media (mounted volume)
    skype
No one else uses my MacBook
I don't have any sharing services enabled that I am aware of. In any case no one would be accessing my MacBook from any other networked machine.
Time Machine is enabled and writes to a Netgear NV+
I have a similar problem with my Mac Mini. Can anyone help me analyse what is happening?
    Thanks for your help

Hi there, It's a very common problem. Some people seem to have solved the problem by checking Activity Monitor to see if there are any messages that may help identify if a piece of software is preventing the system from entering a sleep state. I did this and realised my external HD software was preventing the system from sleeping. Now my MBP 15" i5 predictably sleeps and my battery life is extended.
There is a lot of good advice here:--->>

  • After Mountain Lion, iMac goes to sleep even while Quicktime is converting files

    Hello!
After Mountian Lion, I have had to change my Energy setting to NEVER put the computer to sleep. iMac has been going to sleep even while it is converting files. This never happened with the previous OSX.
Does anyone know why it goes to sleep even when tasks are being performed? It's very annoying.
    Thanks!

Same problem here on a Mid 2007 Core 2 Duo -- set to "never" but keeps dozing off.
Extra lousy since it's also the print and media server.

  • My 4s Goes to speakerphone automatically while calling and does not go back to normal even after disabling speaker  while calling

My 4s Goes to speakerphone automatically while calling and does not go back to normal even after disabling speaker phone button
AlsO sometimes I. Cannot hear anything in normal speaker even though the call Is going through and has been re ieved on the other end, I have to enable speaker and then disable it to route audio to normal speakers

I think that it is something wrong with kernel and graphic drivers but i'm not able to solve it from the beginning of using of Arch by me.
I'm not so sure this issue is software-related only because in my case it seems the laptop screen enters power-saving mode (10-min timeout) on its own without any events logged (as shown by dmesg) so my next thought was OK, I'm going to get rid of this issue disabling the screen power-saving timeout in the BIOS and set it to never power down or something like that and from then on managing power mode manually; ie: when I want to power down I will just use systemctl suspend/hibernate which work fine ... problem is: there are no related options in my BIOS for such timeout.
The only timeouts I have are in /etc/systemd/logind.conf set to 30min (#IdleActionSec) (commented) by default so these are not in effect because the screens goes blank after 10m which is less than the (default) 30m in logind. Maybe setting loggind to 9m (un-commented) to catch the event before the machine-default one ?
    IdleActionSec=9min
    IdleAction=suspend
Will check it and report back.

  • How do I stop iMac from going to sleep automatically after 15minutes of inactivity

How do I stop imac from shutting down automatically after 15minutes of inactivity, trying to play music but the imac keeps going to sleep, tried changing power saving preferences to never shut down, never go to sleep, unticked put the hard disks to sleep, automatically reduce brightness, but still goes to sleep.

    Try a PRAM/NVRAM reset.
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
After resetting NVRAM or PRAM, you may need to reconfigure your settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and time zone information. If issues persist, your Mac's logic board battery may need to be replaced. The logic board battery helps retain NVRAM/PRAM settings when your computer is shut down. You can take your Mac to a Mac Genius or Apple Authorized Service Provider to replace the battery on the logic board.

  • HP Pavilion DV6 Sleep Mode Issue After Windows 10 Upgrade (Goes To Sleep After 2 Min Of Inactivity)

I recently upgraded my laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The upgrade went smooth and everything appears to be running fine except for one anoying glitch. After approx. 2 min of inactivity my laptop atuomatically goes into sleep mode and logs me out. I have checked all my power settings/sleep settings/screen saver settings...etc and I have completed all the windows updates. I don't see any timers anywhere that require adjustment. Any help would be appreciated. Note: The laptop wakes up fine with no issues.

Hello Konacha, Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!I have read your thread regarding the computer entering sleep mode, upon Administrative prompts or a restart. There isn't a lot that could be done, but by the end of it, the issue should be resolved  Hopefully, the simple fix is creating a new power plan. Your current power plan may be incorrectly configured. This Microsoft website can help with all the details of this task: Change, create, or delete a power plan (scheme)  If that doesn't help, then personally, I would reinstall the operating system. This will fix it, as it will address any software conflict or virus that could be causing this. First, you should backup your data. I will provide information on how to do that: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7) Once this is done, it is safe to do the System Recovery. Here is some information on how to do this: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7) Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks again for posting, and have a great day! Mario

  • My iPad randomly goes into sleep mode while I am using it?

All of a sudden, when ever I use my iPad 2 it goes into sleep mode. It did it three times while I typed this message.  As I am running an app it will just go into sleep mode with out me doing so and I have to press the home button to wake it up. Doesn't matter what app I am running. I have 4gb of storage available.  Most of the time it brings me back to the app I was using when it went to sleep.  Has anyone else suffered this issue. I am running the latest iOS 6.0.

What "issue"? This is perfectly normal. By default, all (fairly-recent) Apple products will go to sleep if left idle for a certain period of time. This is NOT normal, however, if in the app, you are pressing buttons on the screen. If you are doing something like reading, for example, try setting your iPad to not go to sleep that quickly.
(Google how, I don't completely remember.)

  • My Mac goes into sleep mode while playing videos or DVDs.

This started happening last week. I was watching Veronica Mars and all of a sudden my computer goes to sleep. At first I though it was because I had it on energy saver mode, but it just kept on happening. Tonight I wanted to watch Camp Rock on Disney XD and after a few minutes it shut down. I went on You Tube to watch my friend's videos and the same thing happened. Does anyone know what's wrong?

Welcome to Discussions - the problem is probably overheating, which causes your computer to sleep. Look in you Applications>Utilities>Console and see if your System log shows "maximum temperature exceeded for 30 seconds". This would indicate a problem with your Power Supply Unit or a faulty temperature sensor. You should take it in to be looked at.

  • My imac goes to sleep even when in use

i ran the hardware test and got this message:logic board-error code 2 STH/1/2 CPU T-Diode
    what should i do/

This is not only a logic board problem.
I had the same exact problems as you and have even got the same exact message. I ended up having to get the whole motherboard replaced because of one very simple but troubling problem.
The motherboard is designed as such where Apple put the the temperature sensor running from the hard drive right next to the CPU processor. Over time, the high heat of the CPU processor causes the plastic/rubber surrounding the wire to become brittle and even melt. When this happens, the system gets a bad reading from the hard drive and thusly causes a louder, faster fan noise; and eventually, the computer starts to fall asleep even while in use.
Simply put, you will probably need to have your mother board replaced. Contact Apple with your error code, and explain the problem carefully to them because it is not in the usual problems they have faced. I had my motherboard replaced at the end of April and it seems to be running fine for now.

  • IBk G4 won't sleep automatically while running on power adapter

I have suddenly developed this odd issue. My iBook sleeps fine when I shut the lid, both when running on adapter and on battery. And when I go up to the menu & tell it to sleep it will sleep (for both) as well. It just won't go to sleep on it's own while running off the adapter (I've tested it, and it does sleep on it's own when running on battery). I've repaired permissions & restarted, repairing again but this doesn't seem to help. I saw someone mention looking in the activity manager area for printer mentions but I don't think this would be the problem since it is fine off the battery? Not a big deal really, but wondering what would cause this! Thx for any ideas!

I have repaired permissions & restarted a few times, without any change.
I just looked at my activity monitor. There are many things listed ... this is not something I'm familiar with looking at! Some of the list I know right away what things are, and some I have no idea! But, if it sleeps correctly when running on battery but not AC, would it have to do what is listed on Activity Monitor? My guess is perhaps not? Maybe I need to zap the RRAM? But like the poster above me said about his, it's an old iBook and not really a big deal, I can tell it to sleep!

  • How do I stop my macbook from going into sleep mode while watching netflix

Hi can somebody give me a hand?

Open System Preferences > Energy Saver
Move the sliders for as long as needed to watch the movie.
Deselect:  Put hard disks to sleep when possible
After watching the movie, in System Preferences > Energy Saver, rremember to click:  Restore Defaults to save wear and tear on the hard drive.

  • MBP randomly goes to sleep, even while I'm using it.

So, for about a week now, I've found that my MBP will go to sleep (as in the screen suddenly turns black). And when I press a key or click, the computer makes the sound that it does when it's coming out of sleep.
Now this isn't really a big issue at the moment, however I have no idea what's causing it and am afraid it could be a potentially bigger issue.
Anyone have any idea what it might be? Should I get it checked?

OK, that is one possible problem apparently out of the way. If it happens again (or if you can remember the times/dates of previous events) have a look in a utility called Console which keeps the logs. This actually seems to have changed with the 10.5.7 update and now has an "All Messages" section: useful if you have this. If not, the Console Messages, or one of the other logs might give information that could help in analysis.
As I suggested in the earlier posting, if there is nothing, that would point to a power management problem and a hardware repair. Console might help track it down if it is software-related.

  • MSI GT60 automatically goes to sleep

For some reason, my MSI GT60 goes to sleep automatically. I have even changed power settings to prevent this by right clicking > Personalize > Screen Saver > Change Power Settings. By default Balanced is already checked. However, I have even gone into Change Plan Settings and adjusted all settings to never turn off. I have also used my own custom settings without luck.
Can anyone tell me why my computer is still falling asleep after a couple of minutes (if my machine is idle)?
    Thank you.

While I'm sure Jame's command line will work....
Are you sure that you changed the settings for sleep?
Control Panel->Power Options->"Change when the computer sleeps" on the left side, and then make them all "Never"?
I'm guessing you probably did, but figured I'd ask.
Also, are you using the "ECO" button and such to change your power plans? If you are, that might really be the culprit.
Yes, the method I went to change sleep settings is just another way to get to the same result as you did via control panel. Either way, the computer is automatically going to sleep regardless. I did not mess the ECO button.
I will try James suggestion if there are no alternatives. Just scratching my head as to why my computer overrides the settings in control panel?!
    Thanks for your responses.
