Since you gave no P/N how do you expect us to know what is happening or what system it is being installed on or if this is even a HP laptop? And on a clean install you should not create a partition to install windows will do that itself. Also windows requires a 100MB to do it's install that you can't touch it and the rest should be left clean for the install.

  • Windows refuses to install (slew of issues, specifically the partition)

    Hello guys,
I'm using the iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), OS X Yosemite with a fusion drive). Previously I had Windows installed perfectly. I was running the tech build but after a few months I managed to mess it up due to driver issues. I decided to start over and reinstall the OS and use Windows 8.1.
I did a checksum on the ISO used for Windows 8.1 and it checked out. I also tried using Windows Enterprise (supposedly not support but it's worked before for me) and the Windows tech build again.
The first set off issues is that all versions tell me I can't partition the drive (windows installation screen). Then once I format it within the windows installation screen, it's the same issue.
I tried using Tuxera, still doesn't work. Windows Techbuild recommended me to use fat32. Still doesn't work, and makes me format it regardless.
At one point my partition got divided up.
And when I goto boot camp assistant I get "the startup disk cannot be partitioned or restore to a single partition".
I've lost hope and I can't repartition my entire drive at the moment. Is there a fix for this? I've also tried deleting the partition within Windows, making it free space. That manages to get me to the install screen but it gets stuck at ZERO percent and blames my source media (although the checksum is correct and it's done the same with Windows 8.1, Enterprise, and the Tech Build.
So many problems. I've been using bootcamp since about 2007 or 2008? Never had these issues.

It is a fusion drive. 1 Tb.  I've used BC assistant to format the drive, I've used Disk utility, I've used the windows installation screen. It's been messy because I've had to systematically see what could work and it hasn't be working in my favor. Not bootcamp won't format the drive . It shows this.

  • HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 4625e Refuses to Install

My printer is an HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 4625e (4620 series). Firmware Version: CAP1FN1451AR
First, this is what I can do with the printer:
Print internal ‘Test’ pages and reports.
Print documents in all applications from a wireless, networked laptop.
    Print documents using ePrint.
My computer is an HP Omni All-in-one Running Windows 7 Home Premium X64
The issue is I am unable to (re)install the printer on the HP Omni using either ‘Add Printer’, HP downloads or the installation disk.
    Hoping for a definitive solution.
Background: Just over a week ago I upgraded from Office Pro 2010 to Office Pro 2013. When I went to print I noticed the dfautl print was showing as One Note 2013. I selected the HP printer then hit print. I got an error message: Word Cannot Print this Document. There is no printer installed.
I tried to print using NotePad and an Adobe document (thinking it may have been Word related only). This did not work. I could print from any application using the Desktop. But, as noted, I can do so from the networked laptop.
On opening the Printers folder OneNote was set as the default. I changed the default to the HP printer. No luck. I was told it was not installed.
I ran Malwarebytes Premium and Microsoft Security Essentials to check for possible incursions. None.
I then tried System Restore. No change.
I then tried to repair the print program. No change.
I then uninstalled Office 2013. No Change.
I then tried the “Add Printer” function. No Luck. I was informed: “Unable to install printer. Some files are missing or incorrect. Reinstall the driver or try using the latest version.” (Screenshot 1)
I then tried to reinstall the printer. First as a straight reinstall then second after doing a complete uninstall using Revo Professional Uninstaller and an Advanced Scan.
This did not work, yet the printer is recognised as being on the wireless network during the reinstall process (Screenshot 2).
This is what I Cannot do: (Note: during any install attempt I disable both Malware Byes and Windows Security Essentials. I have also attempted installs with the Firewall turned OFF.)
Cannot reinstall on the system. It refuses to allow a wireless network installation even though it shows on the install screen (Screenshot 2).
If using ‘Add Printer, it says files missing or incorrect (Screenshot 1).
If installed using HP Download, I am able to input IP Address but it does not show the copmupter name. It says either. “Computer’s Network Name: Retrieving’ OR ‘Computer’s Network Name: Unable to Retrieve’ (Screenshot 3 & Screenshot 4 respectively).
When install fails, I get the screen asking to search for a solution (Screenshot 5) which then gives me instructions re a download ‘Helper Application’ (Screenshot 6).
After attempting to follow those instructions, the downloaded ‘solution’ does not work (Screenshot 7).
Instead of trying to install over the wireless network I have tried using the USB Install process. The printer then only installs as a ‘Fax’ Printer. On checking the Device Mager – Show Hidden Devices – it shows a ‘Multifunction Device’ with a yellow exclamation mark (!) next to the driver. On checking, it says I need to reinstall the driver.
Any attempt to convert the USB connection (even though it only installs as a fax printer) to a wireless connection fails.

    Hi @jindo53,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
Thank you for a very well detailed post! From what I have read, I understand that your HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 4625e is refusing to install either as a Wireless or USB connected printer, on Windows 7. I am sorry to hear this, but I am happy to help!
Please take a look through this guide, 'Unable to Find Printer' Error Message Displays for the HP Officejet 4620 e-All-in-One and HP Deskje....
Tips to avoid wireless connection issues
The following tips can help prevent wireless connection issues. You might need to experiment with each of these tips to secure a successful wireless connection.
Move the product, the computer, and the access point (router) closer together.
Remove any metal objects that are between the product, the computer, and the access point (router). Objects such as refrigerators or metal bookcases can interfere with a wireless transmission.
Move any device that emits radio signals farther away from the HP product. Devices such as microwaves and cordless telephones can interfere with wireless transmission.
Accept or allow any firewall pop-up messages that display during the software installation.
If you connect to a virtual private network (VPN), temporarily disconnect from the VPN during the HP software installation (see your VPN software for further details).
If you have MAC address filtering enabled on your router, you will need to add the HP product's MAC address to the address filter list. You can find the MAC address on the Network Configuration Page. Follow instructions for your router to add the address.
If that does not help, please try the following:
Uninstall the software. Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Clean boot the computer. How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
Disable any Antivirus programs. Disable Antivirus software.
Disable any firewall programs. Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
Create a new user account. Managing User Accounts and Logins (Windows 7).
Reinstall using the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.
If still unsuccessful, proceed to back up your files, and reinstall Windows 7.
Hope this information is helpful, and thank you for posting!

    What exactly means "refuses"?
This is the message which comes up if I try to update (from the Help menu) or re-install my licenced copies of CS6 or Photoshop Elements 9.
    “We've encountered the following issues
Installer failed to initialize. Please download Adobe Support Advisor to detect the problem”
    Get Adobe Support Advisor”
    OR
on trying to open PhotoshopCS6 I get this message:-
“Adobe Application Manager required to start your trial, is missing or damaged.
Please download a new copy of Adobe Application Manager from http://www.adobe.com/go/applicationmanager_uk”
When I follow these instructions and try and start up/install or update Photoshop CS6 I get the same messages all over again. This has been going on since Tuesday afternoon and I am anxiuous to resolve the problem. For several years now all this has worked perfectly through your website and I cannot understand what has changed.  Once I cancel these messages the products themselves seem to function OK. When I attempt to use Adobe Update Manager I get the same messages as above. You will see that my products are properly licensed and up to date. Have you any solution?

  • Adobe Reader X refuses to install - indexing service filter daemon

I have closed all applications, but Adobe Reader X refuses to install, saying that something called "indexing service filter daemon" is open.  How do I get around this?

This is how I got around this install issue:
    During install with the Indexing Service Filter Daemon message still open;
    1) right click on My Computer
    2) select Manage
    3) double click Services and Applications
    4) right click Indexing Service
    5) select pause
    6) in the Adobe X install message window, select Retry
It will have you reboot after install and it should automatically restart the service that you just paused.  If not, repeat the steps and select Start instead of Pause.
    Hope that helps.

  • Application Manager refuses to install

    Hi,
I'm having a substantial probelm with the Application Manager (AAM). A few days ago I performed an automatic update of Audition, but the progress got stuck at around 50%. A few minutes later the computer totally crashed and after a restart Windows 7 had to repair the entire disk. To my surprise I had to find out that the AAM removed itself from my hard disk. I mean, it wasn't there anymore and the alias icons were blank.
As suggested in the help I downloaded AAM 6.2, but it refuses to install. I also cannot deinstall the Creative Cloud applications for a new installation, because this action requires the AAM which can't be installed. It's a devil's loop. The guy from the Adobe help chat advised me to download the new AAM 6.2 and install it. That's really funny, as I've told him twice that this isn't possible. Additionally, he refused to help me, because my OS isn't in English.
Any suggestions? I'm really grateful for any help! Thanks a lot in advance.
    -T.
    EDIT:
I've been able to fix this issue on my own. Really took my some time and tricks...

@tsn69- Glad to hear you were able to fix the issue.
For another person reading this post, the steps I provided in this post http://forums.adobe.com/message/4726312#4726312#4726312 may help. You want to run the Adobe Cleaner Tool first followed by installing the Adobe Application Manager from one of the links provided.

I've been trying to reinstall my copy of LR4 on my machine.
I just formatted within the past couple days, and I need to get back to work, but LR refuses to install.
I keep getting this error when it reaches approx. 80% installed, and when I hit okay it "rolls back installation files", and quits.
Like I said, fresh install of Windows.
Tried deactivating everything, ie AV programs, internet, etc.
Every single time, this error occurs.
Any help would be greatly apreciated!

  • Maverick refuses to install on macbook hard drive

I have downloaded Maverick from App store but it refuses to install on Macbook HD. Not sure what is the problem. Can anyone help please.

What error message was generated? Have you done these:
    Follow proper upgrade practices;
    Remove all third-party peripherals.
Repair your hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
Backup your computer to an external drive.
Be sure you have at least 20 GBs of free space on your hard drive.
    Download the Mavericks installer application.
Upon completion do not run the installer, but quit the installer.
Make a copy of the installer in your Downloads folder before you proceed with installing.
Make a bootable flash drive installer.
    Install Mavericks on your computer.
Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer
After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the leftside list. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list.
Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
Use DiskMaker X to put your installer clone onto the USB flash drive.
Make your own Mavericks flash drive installer using the Mavericks tool:
You can also create a Mavericks flash drive installer via the Terminal. Mavericks has its own built-in installer maker you use via the Terminal:
You will need a freshly partitioned and formatted USB flash drive with at least 8GBs. Leave the name of the flash drive at the system default, "Untitled." Do not change this name. Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. Copy this command line after the prompt in the Terminal's window:
    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed to the screen so be careful to enter it correctly. Press RETURN, again.
Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time.
My personal recommendation is that you backup your computer after making the flash drive installer, then boot from the flash drive installer, erase your hard drive, and install Mavericks. Test the system out thoroughly until you are satisfied it's working properly for you. Then restore your data from the backup you made.

  • Shockwave refuses to install in Chrome.

Frustrating Problem. Shockwave refuses to install in Chrome. Windows 7 Chrome 39
I've done the disable the duplicate flash plugin both ways.
I've uninstalled shockwave via the control panel and re installed.
I've uninstalled and re installed Chrome.
Programs list shows Shockwave, but 0 kb file size (actually just nothing listed under file size)
I even deleted an adobe cookie called shockwave ref.. but it has re inserted itself, but shows path /
(I'm not sure if there should be something that follows the /)
Needless to say this has been very frustrating and has caused video problems and even interfeeed
with my gmail. I have to opt for the html version to check email.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sorry, I have been down that lane with various approaches several times, with the same result:  No picture in the install message, and no system installed.  The “no picture” symptom could in fact come from another problem than Adobe, since it appears in several pages, such as in an email with a “built-in” icon.

  • New Hard Drive for storage - Windows wants to install on it

This has been an ongoing problem of mine and I finally received a useful error to be able to figure out what is going on. I have already checked MSI's forums and Microsoft's website with no avail.
    Problem:
I just put in a new hard drive (200GB seagate) and windows won't boot. I'm not surprised. Whenever I tinker with my hard drives, windows refuses to boot and I end up reinstalling XP. My interesting error occurs when I go to select an installation partition. Upon selecting my WD Raptor, Windows replies:
To install Windows XP on the partition you selected,
Setup must write some startup files to the following disk:
190780 MB Disk 0 at id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MBR]
However, this disk does not contain a Windows XP-compatible
    partion.
What normally happens when I install windows on my sata drive is that windows also writes files to another drive which it needs in order to boot. Move the disks around and windows won't boot. In this case, the hard drive I added new is not yet formatted or even partitioned. I noticed that it was the first drive on the partion selection screen which makes me think that windows wants to use the first disk on that list as the disk to put files onto (otherwise known as C:). HOW OH HOW do I install windows without  windows putting files on multiple drives?

    Great news!
I installed Partition Magic (which I already own), and noticed two things.
    1. My Seagate 200GB is set as Active and
    2. My WD Raptor is not set as Active
Sounds easy, so let's set my Raptor as active and my Seagate as not active. But hold on, let's do one at a time and since I want to make my Raptor work, let's turn that on first. So I made my Raptor Active and rebooted (btw, I didn't change anything in bios). Upon reboot into XP partion magic popped up and did some DOS stuff and rebooted me. This time when I rebooted I jumped into bios and changed 2nd boot device to SCSI instead of HDD-0 (1st boot is cd-rom) and rebooted. Now I get this message:
    NTLDR is missing
What a kick in the sack! Previously, before I made the partition magic changes, booting from SCSI would give the error:
    INVALID SYSTEM DISK
INSERT VALID SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER
or something like that. This drives me to the conclusion that you guys are on a role. Indeed setting my Raptor to Active was probably all it needed in the first place. Thank you very much already for that little piece of information.
So now the new question becomes, can I copy NTLDR from my xp cd into my WINDOWS directory and assume it will boot on SCSI? (or perhaps if I would remove my Seagate). I've tried to re-copy an NTLDR file for someone a year ago but there were many different versions of the file. I can still boot to XP if I set boot device to HDD-0, don't forget. And I did a windows search for NTLDR and it doesn't come up anywhere. Now what?

  • Lenovo Yoga 2 13, Kali Linux 1.0.7, Ubuntu 14.04, Windows 8.1 install, config, and wifi fix.

Lenovo Yoga 2 13, Kali Linux 1.0.7, Ubuntu 14.04, Windows 8.1 install, config, and wifi fix.
I wanted to share an experience with everyone I hope will help others avoid what I have gone through the past 3 days. I bought a Yoga 11s that I loved but had some issues with the wireless, Lenovo being awesome replaced it with a Yoga 2 13. I love this laptop but ran into some issues with Linux install/wireless, which I wanted to show how to resolve in one place. Hopefully this will help someone else get through this quicker
I am going to try and write this for someone with little Linux experience, if I miss the mark please let me know and I will clarify the best I can.
For work I need Windows 8.1 and Kali Linux, while for home I prefer Ubuntu.
    My Yoga 2 13:
    I5 1.6 ghz
    8 GB ram
    256 GB SSD
    ORANGE!
    My requirements:
    I need Windows
I need Kali Linux (livecd, even with persistent mode was not an option as it would not save the wireless fix or system updates) – I would also like this on a USB drive and not the internal SSD
    I would like Ubuntu
    Needed to do this:
    1. 2 USB thumb drives (at least 8gb in size each) I used 2 Leef Supra 32GB drives. They are my favorite right now and are only about $27 at amazon.
    2. Phone that can USB Tether or a USB Ethernet card (External USB wireless will show as "Hardware Locked"). Again you can pick one up for sub $10 if you need the USB Ethernet route. I used my Galaxy S5, you will need to download 200-300 mb of items through this so make sure you have the data if you go that route.
    3. You may be able to get a USB wifi card to work if you do the following after boot. This only worked once for me.
                    a.Type ‘sudo rmmod iwlmvm’
    b.Type ‘sudo rmmod iwlwifi’
    4. ISOs of Ubuntu and Kali Linux (I used Ubuntu 14.04 and Kali Linux 1.0.7)
    5. Software to unzip the ISOs. I recommend 7-ZIP and will be referencing this in this guide.
    6. I will include the EFI boot files and the WiFi fix files if I can attach. Otherwise I will provide a link to them.
       Link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/puxnnoft3gn2b6l/WiFiFix.zip
Recommended (these are just in case you corrupt something making your system not see any OS
    1.  I would call Lenovo beforehand and get a set of recover disks (this will take 2-3 days)
    2. In the meantime a USB Windows 8.1 or 8 ISO (the repair feature may save you)
*Note: At many points in this guide I detail steps and commands. Please double check that you understand the step before proceeding. There are multiple points where a mistyped command or clicking the wrong option will cause your entire system to fail and you will need to reformat the entire drive and start over. This also will make One Touch recovery not work. Proceed with caution.*
I did not need to disable ‘secure boot’ to do this, but keep in mind that you may need to.
    Steps:
First let’s go through the installs, and then we will go through grub config and wireless fix
    1. In Windows scroll to computer and right click, select manage.
    2. Go to “Disk Management”
    3. Select the main HDD (notice Lenovo puts a stupid number of partitions on here)
    a. I deleted the D: drive on here, if you do this make sure to copy the drives over to your main C: drive. You will want to run each of the installers and repair the drivers after.
    4. I used the space from the D: drive and pulled a little more creating a 50 GB partition for Ubuntu and my swap file
    a. You can also add more space by right clicking your C drive and selecting shrink
    b. Do not format the partitioned data as this will make identifying it later much easier.
    5. Open a command line
                    a. Swipe from the right of the screen and select search
                    b. Type ‘cmd’
                    c. right click and select ‘run as admin’
    6. For Ubuntu: Type ‘diskpart’ into the command line
                    a. type ‘list disk’
    i. You should see 2-3 disks depending on if you have one or both usb drives in the laptop at the time. I would suggest only doing 1 at a time so you don’t lose track.
                    b. type ‘select disk $’ (Replace the $ with the number of the drive)
    c. ***** Before proceeding make sure you have the correct drive selected or you can ruin your Windows install and Lenovo one touch recovery will not fix it since we have changed the partitions *****
    d. type ‘clean’
    e. type ‘create partition primary’
    f. type ‘active’
    g. type ‘format  fs=fat32 quick’
    h. type ‘assign’
    i. type ‘exit’
    6. For Kali Linux: Type ‘diskpart’ into the command line
                    a. type ‘list disk’
    i. You should see 2-3 disks depending on if you have one or both usb drives in the laptop at the time. I would suggest only doing 1 at a time so you don’t lose track.
                    b. type ‘select disk $’ (Replace the $ with the number of the drive)
    c. ***** Before proceeding make sure you have the correct drive selected or you can ruin your Windows install and Lenovo one touch recovery will not fix it since we have changed the partitions *****
    d. type ‘clean’
    e. type ‘create partition primary size= 3272
    f. type ‘active’
    g. type ‘format  fs=fat32 quick’
    h. type ‘assign’
    i. type ‘exit’
    j. By doing this we can maintain a portion of this drive as the install CD and still have linux install/ liveCD if we need to run it on another machine.
    7. At this point the drive is ready to have the contents of the ISO copied over.
    8. Right click the ISO and select 7-zip then ‘zip to /’ This should unzip the ISO to the location of the ISO into a folder named exactly the same as the ISO.
    9. Once this is done for Ubuntu ISO it is done
    10. Kali requires a little bit more to be ready
                    a. Kali will need some files added for EFI boot. --$--
                                   i. Thanks to: https://forums.kali.org/showthread.php?271-How-to-EFI-install-Kali-Linux
ii. EFI files are located within the wifi fix folder https://www.dropbox.com/s/puxnnoft3gn2b6l/WiFiFix.zip
    11. Now let’s start with Ubuntu
    Ubuntu install
    1.     Place USB drive into the laptop and press the “Lenovo boot” button next to the power button
    2.     Select ‘Boot Menu’
    3.     Select ‘EFI USB Device (Name of drive)’ Mine stated Leef Supra
    4.     Select ‘install Ubuntu’
    5.     Go through the Ubuntu install until you get to select the install drive
    6.     Once you get to the install portion it will ask you to select from one of 4 options. Select ‘Manually select partition’
    7.     Select the “Free Space” where we opened up some of the drive
    8.     You will need to create 2 partitions, I usually create the swap partition at the end of the drive
    a.     First I create the swap
                                              i.    Set at the end of the drive
ii.    Set size to 1024 mb
                                            iii.    Set type to ‘swap’
    b.     Second create the ext 4 partition
                                              i.    Set to beginning of drive
ii.    Set to remainder of the space
                                            iii.    Set type to ext4
iv.    Set mount point to /
    9.     Finish the install and boot into Ubuntu
    10.   You will notice that your wireless is ‘disabled by hardware’ This is fine for the time being and we will worry about this after the kali install. If we fix it now for some reason after installing kali we get the error again and would just need to fix it again.
    Kali Linux install
    1.     Place USB drive into the laptop and press the “Lenovo boot” button next to the power button
    2.     Select ‘Boot Menu’
    3.     Select ‘EFI USB Device (Name of drive)’ Mine stated Leef Supra
    4.     From the grub menu select ‘install kali linux’ both graphical and text work. I much prefer text install
    5.     You will get a few errors through the install but that is fine
    6.     The first we see is about network hardware and ‘load missing firmware from removable media?’ – Select ‘no’
    7.     Then select no ethernet card
    8.     It will have you name your machine then it will ask you for the root password
    a.     If you want to just use root *not recommended* place the password here
    b.     If you wish to use a non-root account then leave these blank and it will ask you for a name, username, and password of the new machine *Very Recommended* - this will also add this user to the sudoers file
    9.     It will then ask you to ‘partition disks’
    10.   Select manual
    11.   Now here is where it can get a little confusing so read twice click once
    12.   Select the USB drive from this list
    13.   Mine shows up under (sdb) – Leef Supra
    a.     It could be sdc, sdd, sde, etc… depending on how many drives you have plugged in.
    14.   You should see one primary drive that is 3gb or so that is formatted as FAT32. – DO NOT TOUCH THIS PARTITION!
    15.   You should see the remainder of this drive as ‘FREE SPACE’ select that
    16.   Create a partition at the end at size 1024mb and swap
    17.   Then create another one for the remainder of the drive and set it to ext4 with mountpoint of /
    18.   Continue through the install after you should see an error warning you that ‘you may not be able to boot’ that is fine, select continue
    19.   Then select from the menu of all the options ‘continue without bootloader’
    20.   It should finish up then reboot on its own.

    First setup/boot/fix grub
    1.     You should  be able to boot up into GRUB2 menu now.
    2.     You may not see kali linux in this menu (make sure you have your towel and don’t panic!)
    3.     Boot into Ubuntu
    4.     Once you log in you should see that you still cannot use wireless due to being locked by hardware
    5.     This is expected
    6.     Let’s fix grub then we will come back to fixing wireless
    7.     Plug in your device to connect to the internet (USB Tethering or USB Ethernet)
    8.     Once you verify that you now have an internet connection run the following from terminal
    a.     ‘sudo add-apt-repository ppa:danielrichter2007/grub-customizer’
    b.     ‘sudo apt-get update’
    c.     ‘sudo apt-get install grub-customizer’
    9.     You can also edit the grub.cfg manually if you know what you are doing… I did not
    10.   Open grub  customizer
    11.   It should auto populate and you should see ‘debian (kali linux)’ somewhere in the list
    12.   It should be mounted to /dev/sdb2 or /dev/sdc2 depending on how many devices you have
    13.   At this point go ahead and save
    14.   Reboot and test that you can get into each OS
    15.   This is where my inexperience got me. I spent 2 of my days so I am including this error: If when you boot into Kali you get an error somewhere that says ‘/bin/sh: can’t access tty: job control turned off’ look above it for an error that looks similar to ‘ALERT! /dev/sdc2 does not exist. Dropping to a shell!!’
    a.     That error is due to the mount point being incorrect in grub, reboot and from within grub highlight the kali boot. Press ‘e’ then towards the bottom you should see ‘root=/dev/sdc2’ change this to ‘root=/dev/sdb2’ again the number doesn’t matter just make sure it stays the same.
    b.     Press F10
    c.     If this boots fine then you will need to go back and fix the grub.cfg or load into Ubuntu and open grub customizer again, it should fix this
    16.   Now you have 3 working OS on the machine with one being on a USB! Congrats!
    17.   You can remove the USB with no worry of screwing up your install, but you will not be able to boot into Kali Linux until you replace it. I would suggest only removing it and replacing it while the machine is powered off, but that’s just me.
    Fix Wireless
Now is the time to do what probably ¾ of you came here for. FIX THE DANG WIRELESS. This is a huge problem from Lenovo’s side that I hope they realize how important Linux is and will fix. I won’t hold my breath though.
Log into Ubuntu : This is well documented in the following forum post on page 3 by user Haohe:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2215044&page=3
His has you download quite a large file, mine should be much smaller.
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/puxnnoft3gn2b6l/WiFiFix.zip
    1.     Download the attached package with the fix.
    2.     Connect your USB internet device (tether or ethernet)
    3.     Place the packages somewhere easy to access, in this example I will place them under ~/Desktop/WiFiFix
    4.     Type ‘cd ~/Desktop/WiFiFix/’
    5.     Now we need to prep the tools we need.
    6.     Type ‘sudo apt-get update’ – we did this before, but you know, just in case
    7.     Type ‘sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname –r`’   Note around uname-r they are the ` symbol not the ‘ this is located just above the tab on the same key as ~.
    8.     Type ‘make’
    9.     Type ‘sudo cp /lib/modules/3.13.0-24-generic/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/ideapad-laptop.ko ~/ideapad-laptop.ko.backup’
    10.   Type ‘sudo cp ~/Desktop/WiFiFix/ideapad-laptop.ko /lib/modules/3.13.0-24-generic/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/’
    11.   Type ‘sudo modprobe -r ideapad-laptop’
    12.   Type ‘sudo modprobe ideapad-laptop’
    13.   Type ‘sudo rfkill unblock all’
    14.   Type ‘sudo modprobe -r ideapad-laptop’
    15.   Type ‘sudo mv ~/ideapad-laptop.ko.backup /lib/modules/3.13.0-24-generic/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/ideapad-laptop.ko’
    16.   Next we need to blacklist the ideapad module
    17.   Type ‘sudo echo 'blacklist ideapad-laptop' > /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ideapad.conf’
    a.     The first time I tried this it wouldn’t work. So I did the following
    b.     ‘sudo touch /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ideapad.conf’
    c.     ‘sudo vim /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ideapad.conf’
    d.     Enter     blacklist ideapad-laptop
    e.     Exit and save
    18.   Reboot your Yoga 2 13
    19.   Boot into kali and see if you have wireless, if you do then you are done. If not we will need to repeat this process with one small little change.
    Kali Wifi Fix
    1.     Copy the sources.list from the package provided
    2.     Replace /etc/apt/sources.list with the included
    3.     Some of the file path changes but the process remains the same from here.
Congratulations you now have 3 OSes one portable to other machines and working wifi!
    Thank you
    SirGed

  • Touchscreen not working on fresh Windows 8.1 install

I just bought a Pavilion 11-n040nb x360 and I'm planning to buy a few more for work, but I have a problem I wasn't able to fix so far.
On the OEM Operating System the touchscreen was working without a problem. I then installed an SSD-drive and created a new partition with a clean Windows 8.1 install. From the first startup the touchscreen isn't recognized by Windows.
The touchscreen itself is still working in BIOS/UEFI-setup and the diagnostic tool proves there's nothing wrong with the hardware itself.
I found a lot of posts from people with the same problem and tried really every tip, a lot of different drivers and software, but still can't get it to work.
    More usefull info:
    - HD Graphics 10.18.10.3366 driver installed and in use
    - Synaptics 18.0.4.81 driver installed and in use
    - Windows is up to date (no recommended or optional updates available)
    - Windows system screen shows the message 'pen or touch input is not available for this display'
    - No unknown devices in Windows device management (all drivers installed)
    - Looks a bit weird to me: in device management, next to the Synaptics PS/2 Port Clickpad, there is another device called "HID-mouse" with hardware ID HID\VID_0461&PID_4DF1&REV_0300&Col01 but I can't find any other drivers for it than the default Windows-driver, I'm thinking this might be the touchscreen hardware?
Any help on how I can get the touchscreen working on this clean Win 8.1 Pro install?!

    @Dennichio ,
Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forum.  What may have happened with your install is that the chipset driver may not have been loaded first causing issues with the touchscreen driver.
Here is the link for your systems supported drivers.
HP Pavilion 11-n040nb x360 PC (ENERGY STAR) Drivers.
Once you have downloaded all your software and drivers for your notebook you will want to boot into safe mode and uninstall your drivers.
    Windows 8 Safe Mode
You may have to reboot between each uninstall.
once this is done then you will have to boot back into windows normally.
Now install your drivers again this time make sure you install the chipset drivers before anything ellse.
Please let me know how this goes for you.
Thank you again for posting and have a great day.
Please click the "Thumbs Up" on the bottom right of this post to say thank you if you appreciate the support I provide!
Also be sure to mark my post as “Accept as Solution" if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others who face the same challenge find the same solution.

  • Windows Updater Not Installing and Troubleshooter Wizard Is Not Working???

I am in need help desperately!
I have tried to install the Windows 7 latest update since late October 2014 and every time that I have tried it has failed, this is messing with certain programs to either not run such as my Troubleshooter,
leaving me unable to fix the issue, and making my computer to run poorly as well as when I am on Firefox unable to load pages, do downloads, watch movies & TV, or watch videos on You Tube without having to move the mouse around to keep it running and just
freeze the picture on the You Tube and Xfinity but the sound keeps playing though. I am unable to run the Troubleshooter Wizard at all; gives me an error code  0x80131018. I have gone to the forums to find a solution I tried everything possible. Such
as trying to do all the maintenance; disc clean ups, compressing files to save on space, checking the disc drives for errors, defragmenting the drives, try to use the Fix It (MicrosoftFixit.malware.RNP.1343648269423620.1.1.Run,  as well as: MicrosoftFixit.ProgramInstallUninstall.RNP.1343648269423620.2.1.Run,
as well as:  MicrosoftFixit.wu.FISC.1341772369343897.1.1.Run,   and:  MicrosoftFixit50123) all the these would not help.
I also tried to run what information I received from viewing options from the Error Code 0x80131018 and all the HP Support Assistant and Windows Help and Support. These are some of them;  SCUDownloader,
    Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x64,   HPSupportSolutionsFramework-en-11.51.0048,   HPSupportSolutionsFramework-11.51.0048,   HP CoolSense Technology - sp65424,   HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) - sp55068,
HP Power Manager Utility Software - sp55151,   HP On-Screen Display Utility - sp55152,   HP System Diagnostics UEFI - sp52407, and    Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver - sp55101. All these with running the maintenance,
I also installed Boost, also ran the scans through my Norton Security, and so much more to try and fix this problem, I just can't remember everything that I tried I have been working so hard at solving this problem since of the effect of how this Windows Updater
failing at updating and Troubleshooter not working to leaving me unable to find and fix these issues.
I am a Graphic Design Artist and I am pretty computer savvy but I am at a loss on this . If anyone has any advise on these issues please help me ASAP, I use my HP everyday and it is important for
me to have it for work purposes, concepts and so much more. My Mother got this computer for me when I graduated from college in 2012 for my graduation gift so I can do what I do.
Thank you so much for your help in trying to get this resolved without having to take it into somewhere and pay $$ that I do not have.

I recently had a similar problem - Windows 7 Ultimate. Apart from updates not installing and troubleshooters not running I started getting crashes and BSOD's
I checked that my Cryptographic services was set to auto (it was)
Press the 'Windows key" and and key "R" together   to launch the  RUN  box. Type
services.msc in the box and press Enter. It'll open Services Manager.
Scroll down to  "Cryptographic Services" in the list. It should be set to Auto ( mine was)
I then checked my Windows updates to see when the problem started
Taking the bull by the horns I deleted the last 20 updates installed.
I restarted the computer and was amazed to find the troubleshooters working ok
I downloaded the Windows updates and installed them 5 at a time checking the troubleshooter after each batch. Everything was ok .
I can only assume the troublesome update was not re-offered or the one that installed itself was corrupt.

  • Updated my mac to mountain lion 10.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install? Can anyone help me?

updated my mac to mountain lion 10.7.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install saying that I need to see developer. Whenever I try to open my appstore, mail or facetime it says that the programmes need to be installed and might not be compatible with this version of mac operating system. Can anyone help me?

It's not a bad install of Mountain Lion. I've had the same thing happen to me, but it affected not only Mail, but a variety of other programs including iPhoto and MS Office, where I had to delete preferences, caches, and reinstall the OS as well as the program itself. I'm still having issues with Mail, so I've gone to another program.
Everything was fine upon the initial install. I restarted my iMac about two weeks after the install, and that's when the issues began to happen. I've reinstalled Mountain Lion twice, but the same issues arise.
As I mentioned above, you'll need to figure out which preferences are causing the issue, then reinstall the program, as a fresh reinstallation will do you no good unless you wipe the drive completely.
Here's a thread that helped me with iPhoto:

  • Lenovo D20, Type 4155-21G With 5x1.5tb Raid 5, Windows 7 64bit install problem.

    H
Id like to just document a current machine and works and see if any thing is glaringly wrong..
Above spec machine has an onboard marrvel 66xx raid card, a raid 5 volume has been created, total useable space is around 5.5TB.
The software in play here is the following..
Orignal Lenovo recovery disk set, this is Rescue and recovery boot disk 1, then the OS which is Vista 32 Business, the disk label is actual 64bit but its not 64bit its 32bit.
The machine finally has to leave with Windows 7 64bit ultimate.
I have looked into the upgrade paths and so on and basicly you need vista 64bit ultimate in theory, certain hacks are possible such as renaming the os level or name via the registery, but this is dirverting from my post.
Here is what has been done and what has happend.
    20th Jan.
    Start of day.
    Raid 5 volume created.
Factory recovery completed windows vista business 32bit.
Attempt to upgrade Windows vista business to Windows 7 ultimate from with in windows, windows 7 alerts this is not a compatable system etc.
At this stage since the 64bit upgrade is not possible from the known good lenovo state (lenovo vista business factory desktop etc) the second disks in the "Windows 7 32bit + 64bit any time upgrade package was ran.
The 32bit version of the Windows 7 ultimate was ran, this did complete sucessfully.
The 64bit version of the windows 7 was attempted once more from with in the newly installed Windows 7 32 bit but again this upgrade route is not supported.
At this stage a custom install was completed (which means a fresh install which wipes the drive) / fresh install, of the windows 7 64bit any time upgrade disk.
For some reason the Windows 7 64bit any time upgrade key failed to be accepted.
At this stage a second engineer repeated all steps completed to verify and on the second go around the FRESH install of Windows 64bit any time upgrade (stand alone install / custom etc) the key worked!..
This is were it gets interesting.
Lets recap, we have a D20 with 5x1.5tb sata hard drives in raid 5, all on the onboard marvel raid card.
Windows 7 64bit has been sucessfully installed, and of course the next step is to install the lenovo system update tool. (version for windows 7, I understand this is fully 64bit compatable..)
This was completed and pc doctor and one other misc application install, the system requested to restart and then ....
The raid BIOS of the marvel card reported that the raid had become degraded..!!
An inspection of the onboard raid information results that the disk 0 of the 5 disks, was no longer assigned to the RAID 5, with teh remaining several disks still "assigned".
At this stage the only option is to delete the raid five array and recreate it.
This has been done and the factory recovery process has once again been restarted and an attempt will be made to perform the custom install with hopefully the windows 7 64bit any time upgrade install detecting the previous version although I would say that it would not need to detect anything since this is now longer an upgrade but a custom fresh install.
    Further information.
There is a System bios update from the 5th of Jan 2010, this has been burnt to cd and will be applyed against the machine shortly.
We have had some conversation about just how it is that a disk can fatally pop out from the raid five volume like this, was it a coincidence that it coninsided with the power cycle process dirrectly after the system update installation?
Tommorow a Windows 64bit OEM package will be applied against this machine and since we have the relivant driver file for the onboard raid card (sourced from the drivers and applications lenovo recovery disk set), there should be less of a problem in key acceptance.
Kind of a werid situation, what looks like a possible hardware problem and a stupid microsoft upgrade qulification problem.
Is there any thing stupid I have over looked?
Thanks, sorry for the long post but this is the story in full.

    21st Jan..
The D20 has sucessfully had vista business factory reinstalled and then Windows 7 64bit installed.
Dirrectly after the Windows 7 installation and power cycle, one of the five 1.5tb hard drives have dropped out of the raid, visable as "DEGRADED", uppon further inspection via control m, the middle drive (not drive 0 as before) drive 2 (0,1,2,3,4,5) has dropped out and is not marked as assigned, it is marked with no label or free.
This is high strangeness, it is my understanding that the RAID technologies are transparent to the OS so it should not be in any way the Windows 7 install triggering this, the last occurance was also during a Windows 7 power cycle but dirrectly after the system update tool being installed.
At this stage it would appear that Windows 7 64-bit used in conjunction with the supplment driver disk marked as (drivers and apps, windows xp vista, windows 7) is not able to complete and remain stable.
I suspect a possible driver issue but if this was the case surely the windows 7 install would not progress past the first installation point where the driver disks is required to actually use and see the array via the controler.
I will update this thread with more information as it becomes available.
Machine delivery eta to customer is tommorow so this is not good.
